Cab files load as text ine PIE. - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Does anyone know why some cab files open as atext webpage in PIE?
i'm trying to install supertasks 2.0 to my phone (no desktop pc nearby)
http://www.softwareandson.com/SuperTasks/download.php

It's a problem with the web page design. The cab file is not declared as the correct type on the web page. Unlikely that you can do anything to retrieve it on your PocketPC.

It downloads fine for me...strange.
Here's a trick: Right click on the item, and select "save link as..."
This should work.

HappyGoat - downloads fine for me too, on a *pc*
I think dah54 is right, can't do anything about it. Maybe Netfront will be able to d/l it.
I think its so stupid that a PDA is tied to a PC. It should be autonomous.

Downloading pdf files with IE on DASH

I am running the WM6 test ROM on my DASH. I have Adobe LE but Mobile IE will not download any pdf files from the web (comes up with an error screen that says "This file type cannot be viewed on the device"). I installed pocketxpdf and it works fine (although it is for WM5 Pocket PCs), but still the same error message when trying to get a pdf from the web. Does anyone know if there is a registry setting I can change to solve this problem. Thanks.

Download "Pocket IE Download Plugin."
SN PIE Download Plugin.cab worked
SN PIE Download Plugin.cab worked. But I wanted to use Pocketxpdf as my reader, and the cab associated "pdf" with "pdffile". So I extracted the cab files and changed all "pdffile" to "xpdffile" and then created a new cab. Now Pocketxpdf opens the file as soon as I download it. Thanks, I would have remained totally lost without your link to the cab.

fix: gmail - javamidlet

Ever since the new custel, lsvw, black 3.0 and etc... I can't get gmail to work well on any of them. I installed the new midlet fix and still nothing - anyone fixed the problem?
Do those use the Java applet?
If so and it's the same one as Custel 2.5 (not sure about the other ROMs):
1. Attempt to download the gmail applet from the Get Faster gmail link from http://gmail.google.com
2. After waiting for the Midlet Manager to complete, exit both the browser and Midlet Manager.
3. Open the Java applet and select the option on the Menu to Install from a local source (which should be there after it fails to download successfully from the google site; a .jad file sitting in My Documents).
I have the file on my phone. If you need it, please advise. Hopefully, this helps.

Could you please post the .jad file. Whenever i goto the site for the faster gmail it detects my phone as LG CU500 for some weird reason. And the one it downloads, the login button wont work.
Thanks in advance for your help.
^^^ You can easily tell it that you are not that phone and will give you the option to download the 'general' J2ME version.
I know you can do that because sometimes I change my phone to be seen as a PC and I get an error close to what you are getting.
Worse case scenario, you can find and download the app to you PC then transfer to your phone. It will take you only a few minutes.
Please try again. If not there are other sites that have the java app. No disrespect but don't act as a lazy noob.
It sees my Softbank X01HT as a Dopod 730 (something close to this). I have attached the file; hopefully, this is what you are looking for.
Rename the file to gm-Generic-Advanced-MIDP2.jad (in other words, delete the .zip extension; it is NOT a zip file).

Why midlet?
Isn't it more convenient to have gmail connect with the standard inbox rather than a java midlet? That way you can set it to check your mail in your specified time frame? I've had it working with all roms i've tried this far, (dutty, lsvw, black, and custel)
wow.. the midlet works fine - better than the version detected as LG when we download from gmail directly.

TyTN with WM6 incorrect response to link in web page

Hi
When accessing the following URL from PIE, I'm supposed to select the Login link to access the rest of the site. Yet each time I select the link IE gives me an option to save the file (Login.do) to my mobile, instead of entering the site (refer attached screen shots for details).
http://www.investecmobile.com
or
https://mobile.investec.com
I've since loaded Opera to mobile and the link works fine. Also from desktop PC the link works fine. Installine PIEPlus did not solve the problem. It seems it's related to PIE. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Running Storm WM6.1 on TyTN.
Thanks,

I suspect that vBulletin does not support the Download manager.
Sorry, you'll have to do it the old fassion way.
No attachment on this site is bigger 8MB anyway.

I was actually referring to firefox's builtin download manager, but before I replied I tried disabling the external download manager and let the browser handle it alone. Before this I would just hit cancel when the external manager kicked in and thought the I would get the same reaction from the browser. Something got lost in passing the argument to the browser. After disabling the manager, firefox downloaded just fine.
Well, everything is fine with the world now. Something so simple ... geeez, and I call my self a computer geek?
Just as an additional info, accelerators like IDM will work fine but DAP wont parse the php correctly.
It happened to me before, what i found was that it installed plugins in firefox so i disabled those and it workes fine now
I'm getting the same problem, but I don't use a download manager. I've tried Firefox and IE7 (both under Windows XP) and both see the link as a 1x1 Gif Image.
I've never come across this before so any assistance would be most welcome.
Thank you
Get Chrome
I have downloaded and installed Chrome, but I still get the same result, the attachment is seen as a Gif.
I am trying to download "lokiwiz03a.zip" from THIS link. Is there an alternative source for this without having to trawl through the various File sharing sites who could have added who knows what to the package?
Again, thank you for the help.

if its a .zip, then im assuming you use winrar to open it?
If this is true, then download the file to the desktop, then right click it and select "Open With..."
Look around for "Winrar" and then select it, Then make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
I hope i helped you, if not... Send me a PM (For faster communication)
I think you can't download the file because the file does not exist anymore. I also tried to download lokiwiz with the very same result. The 1x1 Pixel is the only thing you get. Maybe the link is just dead or the file has been moved...
EDIT; the download link doesn't even work....
thank you
That was realy helpful, thanx.
Maybe you know where I can download some ROMs too.
I need an english (or german) ROM for a Qtec 9100. I've tried the links on this site but these links seem to be dead (I allready posted that in another thread).
Maybe you can help me out here too.

Really?

I tried Chrome, IE 7, IE 8, IE 8 x64, lynx and links (Vista x64 and Linux) and always a blank page.
Maybe we could have a better page, like this file does not exist anymore or something like that...

[REQ] Wake On Lan

Hi Guys & Gals,
Quick question.....
Has anybody come across a Wake On Lan app for WM6. I have a small home network that I start up from a central PC using Wake On LAN function in the system BIOS. I would like to be able to start my PC's from the Blackstone over my WLAN.
Everything within the LAN & WLAN is running reserved DHCP from the router side so all IP's are constant including the Blackstone.
Cheers for any replies.........
Gilgamesh.......
I don't know if any solution exists but I've read a tutorial (in french sorry) on how to make a wake on line application for wm
http://blogs.msdn.com/pierreca/archive/2009/03/19/wake-on-lan-depuis-votre-t-l-phone.aspx
Hope that could help you
Try this..
jpl69 cheers.........The app works like a charm but is a little basic. Needs the full MAC to be entered manually each time.
What would be really nice is some way of associating the MAC to a short meaningful name that could then be listed so it could just be selected from a list rather than enter the full MAC each time. In this way multiple PC's coud be listed.
While we're at it would also be nice to have a standby button as well so PC's within the LAN could be started and shut down form the app.
I've never written an app before and would either like a few pointers to see if I could do it or see if anyone out there would consider building on the app already posted.
Any suggestion welcome.......
Besides developing an app to that (no time) i could sugest make several shortcuts using resco and parsing the mac as parameter. At least you only had to make it once.
Thanks jpl69 for your continued replies...much appreciated.
I have seen Resco but not realy sure which component to download to edit the exe. I have used PEG (parsing) in other apps at work but just need something to get me started on WM6. I could the replicate the exe per MAC and create a single file or each PC
Might be worth looking at vxUtil: http://www.cambridgevx.com.
This has Wake-On-LAN (among other things), and I think it remembers previously entered values. You can't give things memorable names but it might help.

i think he means, like, create new shortcut with parameters. Just for example the same as on pc creating a shortcut to c:\quake\quake.exe and use the string "c:\quake\quake.exe" +bind mouse1 shoot +set mode opengl blablabla
Again thanks for the continued replies.....
Downloaded vxUtil and had a play and it does have a working WOL option but again it's messy and not really the simple solution I was looking for. It does have some other features (ping/sweep, tracert & DNS lookup) but I don't really have a use for these.
Still really after a single icon to start each PC as per the shortcut suggestion above.
All suggestions still welcome and appreciated.
I will just try to clarify what was the idea of jpl69.
Please read the README file included in the attached archive (posted by jpl69).
It says:
"Command Line:
===============
Please use as following:
WakeOnLan.exe [MACAddress]
MacAddress can be either 01E4523AEE22 or 01:E4:52:3A:EE:22 "
Now with Resco Explorer (or with Total Commander, which is freeware) one can make several different shortcuts to WakeOnLan.exe, each ending with the specific MAC.
In Total Commander, after creating the shortcut, one must select it, choose "properties", then "shortcut" tab, then manually add the MAC at the end of the "target" line.
Copy the ready shortcut several times, name the new copies whatever you want and place those shortcuts in a folder. Dont forget to change the MAC for each machine.
Hope it helps.
Now I get it......Sorry for the slow uptake but been a busy boy and head has been fried by other things. Will have a play tomorrow and post back results.
Many thanks..........
I dont know if you still looking to do this but I got this working & figured I would reply here for future reference.
First i have a linksys DD-WRT router, so I followed these steps:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WOL
Then I downloaded the attached cab & its one click & works great!

I have been using the WakeOnPocketPC from Depicus happilly with WM 6.1. Now, after upgrade to WM 6.5 (Dutty ROM Leo Holy Grail), the cab fails to install ("...installation was unsuccessful.")
Any other program with capability to send WOL packets to a particular IP address (and not just broadcast over LAN)?
Although this thread is about one year old, before I developed my WoL everywhere program, I searched for programs like mine here and came to this thread... None of the programs I've found fit my requirements, so I made a program myself...
So I hope your search is over and you've found what you need with my little WoL everywhere... you can download it here:

Create a shortcut to WakeOnLan with a MAC address
Hi,
I'm pasting to this old thread since I found the WakeOnLan tool here and want to share my tips with others.
If you want to create a shortcut so that you have a separate executable (say in your Start Menu) then follow these steps:
Install WakeOnLan from the above link. I put it in "\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe"
Browse to this location with explorer on your PPC. Select the WakeOnLan executable and click "copy"
Browse to where you want the shortcut to appear:
"\Windows\Start Menu" will show in your start menu
"\Windows\Startup" will be run when you reset or power cycle the device
"\Windows\Programs" will apear in your Start Menu > Programs folder
"\Windows\Settings" will appear in your system settings
Select on some empty space (not an existing file) in your chosen folder and choose "Paste shortcut"
Use a text editor on Windows / Linux to edit this new file, or one on your device (I didn't have any that would open on my device so I copied it to Linux, edited in emacs, then copied it back)
Edit the line that looks like:
Code:
40#"\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe"
essentially this is a character count, a "#", the location the shortcut points to, and arguments. Add your MAC address like this and take note of the quotes:
Code:
58#"\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe" AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF
count the characters of the shortcut, mac address, and space, then add one. This is your new number (in my case, 58).
An easy way to do this is to use "wc" on Linux:
Code:
echo "\Program Files\WakeOnLan\WakeOnLan.exe AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF" | wc -c
57
(remember to add 1!)
Now you can repeat the process and paste as many different WoL shortcuts as you like! I've made just one and called it "WoL MythTv" to wake up my media centre at home. Neat
I'll post my sources in the next post since new users aren't allowed to post links...
