Welcome to the forum
MaybaI can be mistaken, but I think you are the first HTC Max user on this site, can you please post some pictures and reviews for the rest of us?
I´m sure someone will give you the right direction on your questions
Good luck,
Please excuse me for replying late... only saw your post now
Here are some pictures (hopefully flickr links work; first two photos were taken by SonyEricsson P1i)

The officer on the picture is the ad of a 2008 Russian film "Admiral", which can be watched on the Yota TV channel.
(Yota is the name of the 4G network)
Features
My poor translation from Russian to English --> both languages are foreign to me.
"Yota. Now Music and favorite TV are always with you.
All the best of music. Tens of TV channels.
2 years free of charge. Already in operation.
Internet. Fast than ever.
Amazing high speed access to 4G Mobile WiMax.
Always on-line. No limit".
Opening
As a newby I am limited to only 4 pictures... so I post separately.
Minimum accessories, no soft case no microSD -- not reasonable for a $1300 phone
Close resemblance to HTC HD
No flash
Only 3 buttons -- I really hate the guy who removed the 'cancel' button

Comparison to iPhone
Sorry I cannot write any review now since it is my first WinMo phone. Perhaps after weeks I can give some comment.
I wonder how the contrast and resolution of the screen compares to the iPhone. But please let us know your thoughts on the phone once you've broken it in.
Thanks a lot Begovaya!!
I´m sure this are the first exclusive pics of Max on this site!
Thanks a lot and hope you can post your reviews about it once you´ll get more familiar with it.
About comparisions with other devices it has almost the same specs as HTC HD, and there are already thousands of comparisions between them, so let´s no waste time on it (Just a suggestion).
The most important here is the WIMAX service so let us know about it in detail.
About the accesories you are looking for, I´m sure you can use the same as the HD ones, same case for software and apps (Someone correct me if I´m wrong):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=451
I´m sure soon Max will have it´s own dedicated thread

Thanks for response! I guess you mean "Spasibo".
Also thank you for telling me the HD forum.
Regarding the 4G WiMax network, I'll share the experience in the HD forum.

I think the owners of HD can tell about this better than I. The screen is larger than iPhone (it's only noticeable when you place them side by side)
The resolution is fantastic and it is the first phone that makes me feel surfing is alright on a phone.
Some people say 65k colors are enough. THAT AIN'T TRUE. I copy my favorite photos which I took by a Canon EOS 5D (of course the files are shrunk to reasonable size) to the Max4G. The 'discontinuity of color gradient' is very obvious. (I hope you understand my English) That's due to TOO FEW COLORS.
But still, the resolution is great and photos look subtle.
65k is a problem, but phone is not guilty for this. The problem is in Microsoft e.g in Windows mobile. It only supports 65k. Maybe in new versions it will be corrected
WiMax 2.5Ghz Maidstone Kent UK
Hello, Does any one know if this handset will work on my Local Wimax service in Maidstone Kent the trial is being conducted by Mobile Wimax Acceleration Group M-WAG and is running on a 2.5ghz band, i will contact Kerl Haslam at M-WAG today and ask about access to this service, seen sevice in daily use with emergency services and police. Going back to russia in two weeks so tempeted to pick one of these HTC handsets
So my question is, can you tether the WiMax service to a desktop PC?
If so, what is the speed test results?

I'm not sure which bands YOTA uses, but according to HTC "Mobile WiMAX: IEEE 802.16e (2.5 ~ 2.7 GHz)" which means it should operate on any 2.5Ghz network, but I'm speculating on that part as I've not had experience with WiMax
It should work, but maybe phone is locked in some way to Yota

Yes, there is a built-in program "Modem WiMax", according to the manual, you can use HTC Max4G as a modem for PC or notebook.
However, the WiMax coverage in Moscow isn't satisfactory yet. So such test is not possible for me now.
Sorry I'm a WinMo newbie and my knowledge is limited, not able to say anything further.
Clear WiMax was just introduced in Portland Oregon. It would be a kick to setup the phone as unlocked, and then use it as a modem as well. I don't think they would allow that though, access is via a usb dongle for mobile and a paperweight modem for desktop use:
https://www.clear.com/clear_gear.php
$50/month for broadband mobile internet, VOI telephony. It's a total win.
portland wimax
I live in Portland too and am very curious about " Clear WiMax. Has any one who reads here posess the skills to abapt Clear's USB Dongle to mini USB, rewrite the necessary software, and do whatever else is necessary to make wimax work on my HTC Blackstone?
I would gladly pay for any equipment and fees necessary to have this project end with favorable results!
Please contact me at this email with questions and answers.
[email protected]
P.S The rights to any potential commercial product would remail with the fabricator, I just want to be the first one to benifit from it's use.
sincerly,
John Nance
John, I think it would be worth running down to a Clear store with a usb dongle to see if it would somehow work with your phone.
fwiw, Clear has no way to reach tech support, or even leave feedback on getting an HTC or Nokia wimax phone into their lineup.
I was at a BestBuy and Clear was there, but it was the usual idiots who only sell contracts. They are the lowest of the low - I knew the nation was in trouble when I started meeting cell phone salesman-like idiots telling me they were 'mortgage brokers'....but that's another story.
Has anyone confirmed that mods and software for Blackstone are compatible with the Max?
Seriously considering picking up an unlocked one once the price comes down a little bit. It is supposedly a long way out before where I live in China will see 3G coverage, so I will have to live with EDGE no matter what handset I buy. The design of the Max is spot on, and it would suit my needs well enough.

They did this:
- Removed the TILT capabilities from the TouhPro, and added Flash (a mayor for decent pics).
- Removed the FLASH from TP2, and leaved same camera 3.2.
- Infra RED from tilt, ETC, ETC, ETC.
Whyyyy???? THEY DID IT ON PURPOSE....BECAUSE THEY WANTED US TO
BUY THE TP2, or in other words FORCED US to UPGRADE.
It is ALL well planed.
Besides the Bigger Screen, Dual Speakers, Dual Microphones and
the more stylish design IMO (None of them are reason for
upgrade), the only thing worth for an upgrade is the
integration and usability of the TouchFlo 3D that integrates
with the OS and overall apps "PEOPLE CENTRIC", VERY GOOD, and will help you avoid 3rd parties Apps.
but......
.... Thank GOD, Angels, and whoever you believe in, that
XDA-Developers exist, BECAUSE I will just STICK with my
TouchPRO and will Integrate the TP2 Software into my
device, until TP3, TP4 or until they stop playing or RUN
OUT of OPTIONS to MUCK US.
For those with a TILT... Just upgrade to TouchPRO, is worth it. It have same Procesor and Memory, and you will get it in a VERY GOOD PRICE.
For those with a TouchPRO ..... Stick with it and support XDA-Developers, and just modified it as YOU like it.
I used to have a Kaiser, and the upgrade to Touch Pro seemed pointless - only benefit to me was VGA screen, and it looked nicer. Downsides were loss of Tilting screen & I'd have to pay for it!
Now going from Kaiser to TP2 would be a far better deal in my view, with WVGA screen (so much better for web browsing)!
Changing from TP to TP2 in my opinion would be worth it for WVGA screen, but it's a big cost just for this feature!
I don't think the flash is a deal breaker for me, but I agree that investment in a good camera would be a good idea it HTC want to get more consumer customers.
Sad thing for me is that I got an Xperia, so changing to TP2 would be better in some ways (bigger screen & better keyboard), and worse in others (no D-pad & optical joystick, bigger phone, no Audio Jack).
I agree with your frustration though - why don't they just make the perfect device instead of getting so close each time!
- Kaiser should have had VGA screen
- TP should have had Tilt
- TP2 should have had Headphone jack & Dpad (of some sort)
Rather than a conspiracy, it's probably to do with costs & form factor, but who knows!
Also, I had to comment on the fact you posted this in this new thread you created, and in five other threads. It's all good to make your point, but please don't repeat yourself all over the place!
I have a Kaiser and would have liked to have gone to a TP, but they did not make them with HSDPA 850, only 900 as far as I am aware, so it is useless on Telstra in Australia, the TP2 appears to be available either way, so could work as an upgrade, was also considering the Xperia, which is also available either way, frustrating they don't but both bands in the one phone.
That's not a conspiracy,
that's called Capitalism!

I also hate how they always seem to be so close to the perfect device. If the GPS worked better and the touch pro could tilt not so many people would be talking about the iphone all the time.
But i guess HTC thinks they have to do what it takes to keep the faithfuls spending money all the time

That's it exactly! Why would any company build a perfect device (hardwarewise anyway)? They won't sell any other phones which might come in the future. But look whats happening now: HTC releases 1 phone and 1 successor with some features added and some features stripped. The old phone got its fans which like the usability and will stick with that phone until something similar is released (with some features which are missing with the current successor - like tilt) and other users upgrade since they like the enhancements and don't care for the stripped features.
If HTC build THE perfect phone which will please everyone (won't happen ... EVER ), they might end up selling many many phones - more than ever before, but will have difficulties in the future to sell the successors. Who will upgrade the perfect phone for a new camera (5mp instead of 3.2mp e.g. ...), or any other minor enhancement? Only very few people I guess...
There is no such thing as perfect device. At least as time goes by, what was perfect is just adequate.
I agree thought that lack of flash was disappointing. 3 M px camera though is good enough given the small CCD and optics available. I would rather see HTC improve on the CCD and lens that can really have a big impact on photo quality. More pixels simply create bigger files and noiser photos.
Now additional features I would like to see in future version of TP (TP3) are:
- the support for free-to-air digital TV standard (DVB-T and DVB-H).
- 720p HD video capture (in H.264 standard)
Maybe.

I think that in the way technology evolves there are many things they can add to the device for people to buy new ones, like the fact that you would like to get a new one because your current one looks abused.
I do not think is a good thing to strip it out of features, SPECIALLY KEYBOARD, if I'm not wrong most special characters will require the stupid FUNCTION key, by this it only means they are creating a necessity, and BELIEVE ME IT IS ON PURPOSE.
And yes I think that they could have included the flash, and like you said they will be selling lots of phones, including the one I would buy if it would have the flash.
Still I think that just because of the screen and other upgrades I would buy it but not to replace my Fuze, but to replace my LAPTOP, serious, very good screen to edit documents.
The only thing it would need is a way to convert the USB in order to let us use CD-DVD, red-write from a portable Hard Disk and pendrives, etc.
You're wrong
The main reason you are giving is that the TP2 has no flash, neither does the Tilt. I've never really used the camera on any of my phones because they are crappy. If you wanna go to a party to take pics with the ladies, don't be a cheap bastard and by a camera. The only thing I want for an upgrade of my Tilt is bigger screen size and more processing power, exactly what the Rhodium has.

BTW if you don't like the device, don't buy it, but stop spamming the board.
The Touch Pro2 is clearly a business-oriented phone, and businesses don't care all that much about cameras. I'll be getting one as soon as it's available with NA 3G bands.

Amen to that. I personally don't really use cameras since like someone else said, they are typically not that good on phones no matter what brand or how many megapixels. But I LOVE the huge screen. <_< any other phone with a bigger one thus far or even the same res??
true that. Phone camera cannot compare to digi cam. I do love the flash option but I will be upgrading my fuze to TP2. I love big screen, bigger button keyboard even though they lack a bit keys, dual speaker, dual mic. I hate the fact that there is no dpad but it's not that much of a problem to me. Can't wait to get the phone.
Yup it's not a big issue for me. I'm going to buy the phone when it gets released!
It's hardly a major downside is it really?
If you want a camera phone... Go and buy an X1 or a samsung or an LG or something like that...
I'm happy with the features it has and just cant wait.
I really don´t care about the camera pixels or even less for the flash...
Is the less I care when looking for a mobile device
It´s main porpose is for making/recieving calls and surfing the net
Cell phone cameras will never be even close as good as the digital cameras
Just my opinion
Guys you are missing some points.
I'm not saying that the phone obviously have not been improved.
And I am not trying to DISCOURAGE anyone as for BUYING IT or NOT, I'm just stating some points for those that take seriously their business and are budget conscious no matter if we have money, or if we own a 3 Floor House, etc., or not.
I did the same with the AT&T Fuze Before Buying it, I waited and when it was clear that it was a good upgrade overall I made the move.
And because of that and for those, and as for me I think we can wait and see if it is worth it the change.
For now I think that the TouchPro3 will include a faster processor, more memory, and will include a better lens (maybe pixels) and definitely a FLASH.
Ahhhh! and a more complete keyboard as the TouchPro.
The AT&T Fuze have the necessary.
AS for the APPs I know that here we will have that for the FUZE.
It is clear that is attractive and they resolved a major issue, that is obviously the screen size. This is a major when reading or web surfing, etc. Now is near to be a little LAPTOP. Very convenient.
Ohh! and all the extras, including APPLICATIONS.
But saying that camera or flash are not necessary for business, YOU ARE WRONG.
If you don't have the experience in life, well what can I do, but let me give you another example, just one because I do not have the time ..... "Sometimes" Business means making good use of time ( it can involve and evolve in hundreds of ways, and I can assure you that there are some times that I thank I have a camera and flash in my phone ) and in order to be quick at gathering information I used the camera to take pictures of TEXT INFO in low light for business, now this is one of many usages for the cam. So be objective and don't say that a business phone do not needed. BUSINESS INVOLVE A LOT OF THINGS.
And for the person that wrote the TILT did not have FLASH I KNOW, why BECAUSE I OWN ONE and if you read what I wrote, I was referring to 8525 and so on so it is mixed.
Now, I saw in a post don't remember if it was here, saying that camera in TouchPro was no good.
Let me say that right now I'm happy with the camera a little bit slow when taking shots but definitely better than the TILT. Capturing text is so good.
I can also attest that my 8 megapixel camera can not focus text as good as the Fuze.
I also agree that there has to be a well balanced combination of a good quality lens (which in my opinion is the most important), pixels and camera.
So I wrote this for those trying to see if they need the upgrade or not, obviously you decide.
And I wrote this specially for those KIDS that are not objective and business oriented, and also anxious to just brag about how beautiful and COOL their devices are to their MOMS (look mommy !!!), and also for those saying I'm trying to DISCOURAGE anyone, and thus FLAMING at me with infant comments, EITHER THAT or you WORK for HTC and using your comments in in order to influence people yourselves.
Ahhhh! Ja Ja! Do not take it personal. As I DON'T CARE if YOU DO.
Maybe I buy it maybe not, as IT LOOKS AWESOME, etc.
Greetings

Update: for people who want to just read the verdict
Techradar Verdict
In short, this is a phenomenal phone - one of the best we've ever had on TechRadar. Usually when we like a phone on the first use, we end up horribly disappointed after a little use - but the HTC Desire kept on performing and achieving when we thought it wouldn't.
The screen is lovely, the design is slick and processor makes everything happen in a flash - all you'd want from a smartphone.
Sure, some people will want slightly nicer design (we'd advise you check out the Legend) or a simpler home screen and richer app store at the moment (look at the iPhone) but as a piece of hardware it's without par in the mobile world.
A stunning phone, and one that will show the world that Android isn't just for the hackers and phone geeks any more.

they did say something about sound quality
The HTC Desire is an upgrade in the media department over the HTC Legend for a number of reasons - the first being the fact it has an upgraded audio performance in the shape of Dolby Mobile enhancement.
This isn't mentioned in the settings or anything, which makes us wonder if it's a big part of the audio experience - but in comparative tests, it seems to offer a richer bass sound and a nice mid range too....

yes they actually had it for around 3 or 4 days, and they tested it throughly .... I dont think its the final retail version, because *I heard* that the retail versions will be pushed to first of April ...
But who cares ... the most important major thing is, there aret any major bugs reported, within the next few days more reviews will come (and hopefully confirm) that there arent any major bugs/glitches/flaws in the device
I was hoping in that 7 page diatribe they would have made mention of the bootloader. But I suppose the target audience doesn't much care for that information...
Good and thorough review; could have been condensed down to 3 pages though
DAMN I just wanted to post this... then I see somebody already posted it!

It’s HTC Desire time!

This is the one we have been waiting for!
The HTC Desire is now in our possession and over the coming days Matt will be posting the unboxing video and also putting together an in depth and extensive review of the device.
We must however point out a couple of things regarding the Desires out there at the moment, although we certainly do not wish to discredit anyone else's reviews.
We have been informed by a reliable source that some HTC Desires have been out for review for several days now, but these devices did not come from the same source as ours. These early versions did not contain the final ROM that we have been waiting for and I am reliably informed that those devices will have essential features missing. They have also had problems with the OS crashing and serious battery issues which is clearly down to the fact that Google had not completed the ROMS when the devices were shipped.
The batch of HTC Desires that we have had ours from have been in the UK for over a week now but were unable to be released pending the flashing of the final ROM. Its been a frustrating week waiting for Google to authorise the ROM but now its done the fun can begin.
Stay tuned to tracyandmatt.co.uk over the weekend as we will be bringing you some demo videos as well as the usual stuff. Please do interact with us via the forum too!

yeah i also saw that, but that does not matter,
What would be the difference, ... maybe few bugs or something, the review was detailed and its great that they did not have any major bugs or issues, even though that its not the final/ultimate retail version

Hi all ass google told me, there will be an unofficial update for hd2 but they still have problems with the grafic driver.
I may buy an Hd2 and i want to know your opinion about the graphic bug and if the Hd2 has enough sufficient hardware; 1Ghz cpu is MINIMUM requierement and in the video in youtube the os works really slow.
Thx
wait until its ready for the HD2 before you buy 1, because its no guarantee that it will work & if it does who knows if it will be able to download things from the marketplace
as far as graphic drivers if those arent up to par the whole UI will be pointless (laggy & choppy) to many unknowns to spend that much on a phone imo
I talked to HTC and T-mobile they expect the update mid to late june around the same time the Iphone 4g will be droppin...
sorry to say but they just fed you donkey balls =)
the only thing I have seen or even heard/downloaded is a new rom from htc and its still 6.5
it isn't 7 =/
Officially microsoft has repeatedly stated that no device will get the wp7 upgrade sadly...so take it as it were but that's the official word
Thx guys but with unofficial update i mean the russian guys who could get wp7 working on the hd2

Cue the sad trombone, folks. If you were waiting around with your Windows Mobile 6.5 device with hopes that Microsoft would one day bless it with a new chance at life in the form of Windows Phone 7, it’s time to move on.
APC Magazine just got the full spiel from Microsoft themselves: Windows Mobile 6.5 devices won’t be upgradable to Windows Phone 7 series. (You hear that? Five hundred XDA hackers just scoffed and said “Yeah, we’ll see about that.”)
Why? Standards. Microsoft has a very, very, almost ridiculously strict set of hardware guidelines that they want manufacturing partners to follow when building Windows Phone 7 Series handsets — and for the most part, old handsets just don’t fit the bill. They either lack one of the three mandatory keys (search, back, and Windows key), or — get this — they have too many keys.
A while back, a shot of the HTC HD2 allegedly running Windows Phone 7 Series hit the net. We were quick to debunk it here, with our reasoning being that the HD2 lacked the mandatory search key. Sure enough: Microsoft’s GM of Mobile Communications in the Asia-Pacific, Natasha Kwan, says the HD2 won’t be getting the upgrade “because it doesn’t have the three buttons”.
Of course, this just means that they won’t be getting the upgrade treatment from Microsoft. As we mentioned above, there’s probably a mighty army of hackers just waiting to get their hands on Windows Phone ROMs for the sake of down-porting it to older handsets; if it’s feasible, it’ll probably happen.

daam..now i'm becoming really the anti-microsoft..
and I never thought I would say that..not even after windows ME and Vista on pc..
how can they do this to us???
So they say just because there aint no search button..and there r to mush other buttons our phones wont get WP 7?
SO that means we (all HD2 users)just got f****d???dam..I spent alotta money not to change my phone in couple of month..since WM 6.5 is totally dead..
MS will change their mind
When all of us move to Android or stay with our HD2 another year at least, and many will buy the new iPhone, MS will realize what a fatal market research it is to force phone makers to a specific look (or buttons).
I am also reading they will not allow a layer of extra GUI like HTC sense to run on it, and want consistent look to all phones, regardless who is the maker. Unless they come up with an amazing GUI and themes , they can forget about me having WM7. I am more than happy with WM6.5 and HTC sense..

I abhor statements like this from the above poster
MS will realize the error of their ways. SURPRISE! Several users that were once wm have already moved to android and apple since 2007. Hence the campaign to revitalize the operating system. Its already been happening and if you think it can get worse for microsoft mobile after announcing wp7 to which many have said it is impressive, you are deluding yourself.
Fact remains
Google looks like vomit before htc sense, people bought google in droves. Apple has shiny buttons, people bought it in droves. I fail to see your logic from an economic standpoint beyond baseless fanboyism (dont misunderstand I am a die hard windows mobile faithful as well). People somehow buy seemingly restricted crap because of how it is marketed. Time and time again this has been proven...
so what you don't buy wp7 device...and if 100 people buy it over you, no one is really going to care if you don't buy it =)

thats alright friend
but the thing is really frustrating that MS does this to its loyal clients..
plus they said they do it to offer a better experience of using WP7..this is dam ridicules..I mean alright..for better exp new phones based on WP7 should have only 3 buttons..but Y it should mean that sum recent WM 6.5 phone be out of game..
personally Im cool with WM..this is a great OS(especially on Leo)..the only problem..that we aint gettin no new content(the most important for me is decent games)..
I *think* i read somewhere that MS was going to use both OS's. 7 for the ooooo and aahhh factor and 6.5 for the more business oriented side of it because the 7 series supposedly won't run any application from the previous generation.
Waiting game.
yes, that IS what they SAID, but their actions proved otherwise IMHO when they removed smart-device development from VS2010.
This is like them saying "we still support windows XP for the business user but have decided to withdraw XP-compatible app development from all of our coding products"
So I'm curious. I keep hearing that Microsoft made the announcement that the HD2 won't be getting WP7 upgrades, but does that mean that xda developers can't hack the ROM to work with WP7? I guess my question is whether the HD2 meets the minimum system requirements of WP7. The ones that I saw only left a few things in question.
For example, I know that the HD2 is multi-touch capable but the WP7 requirements stated that it needed to be capable of four simultaneous points of contact. Can the HD2 do more than two?
Also, the WP7 requirements spoke of something like 8GB of a storage capacity, which even the US version only has 1GB. Does the MicroSD not count?

Dun worry, the chefs at XDA are notorious for making ROMs not made for that particular device.

I don't know this 100% for sure, but AFAIK the screen on the HD2 is capable of true multi-touch, as in - as many fingers as you can fit on it. The reason it's only currently capable of 2 point touch is because there aren't drivers available to handle more. The drivers that are currently available were adapated from the HTC drivers, which don't handle full multi-touch - just 2 point touch.
you can donate for WP7 porting for HD2 if you want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684346
There is one definitive reason, and one stupid reason the HD 2 won't be getting Windows Phone 7.
And it won't get it, officially. If Da_G manages to do it (and I have full faith in him that if it's possible, he'll make it so), it'll still be buggy as hell.
The Stupid = Too many buttons.
Yeah, it's bad. But MS has made a commitment to be standardized across it's platform, and I can't knock that. That's a really good idea. And besides, HTC has shown time and time again that it would rather just release a new phone with upgraded software, than stick to a device and provide it regular updates.
The Realistic = No hardware scaler on the graphics board.
One of the key ways that the Xbox and the WinPhone7 are going to be able to play the same games is by utilitzing a hardware scaler instead of processing the resolution difference sperately. I doubt the HD2 has one of those.
I am seriously worrying about how Microsoft are expecting to sell WP7 phones here in the Netherlands given that nobody seems to know they exist! All the time I see commercials on iPhone, Androids like Galaxy and so on, via TV, billboards, email. But Windows Phone 7? Not a sound. Not a glimpse. Is this silence before the Mango storm? How is this in other countries?
Pretty much the same. But I remember one billboard for WP7 next to quite frequent highway, it was there for nearly a month, back in January or December I think. I converted few people to WP7 already, but it is tough one ("so where is the internet sharing? Wifi would be the best." "there is no official way." "$#[email protected]!")

Me and a friend have one, other than that have never seen one in Holland either. But it mainly has to do with no official support in Holland yet, no marketplace, buggy locale settings, buggy push on TMobile, no dutch language. Mango will bring these and than we might expect to see more, certainly because nokia will probably release ads.
wp7
Microsoft is well aware that good and fast OS design and not finished functionality is not enough for them to ring all the advertising bells, because right now (with NoDo), iOS an Android would kill them with all-round possibilities. Mango - that's more like it. I have tried B2 and found out that it has almost everything that was left out in current OS.
They hit London pretty hard with advertising at launch. Must have bought up a good portion of Tube advertising for weeks. Been quiet this year though. A little bit of WP7 advertising about, but I think Microsoft have decided to cut their losses until Mango. There's not exactly anything new to sell right now, and the public clearly weren't interested in what they were offering last year.
In Italy no one knows it exists. When I show it to someone, they go either:
1) ah, it's an iphone, right ?
- I walk away
2) an, nice, it's the galaxy uh... what's the name ?
- nope, it's an omnia 7, the new windows phone from microsoft
- errr... what ?
- Windows Phone. Microsoft. See this logo ?
- errr... uhm ... so it's a galaxy s ?
- NO IT'S AN OMNIA 7. But it has Windows Phone system in it. You know, an operating system ?
- ah uhm... yes. And it's not an iphone ?
- I walk away
Fairly unknown in Norway as well, hopefully that changes with the official release over here when the new Mango phones hit.
Unknown in india as well
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Really really unknown at Netherlands Antilles (Curacao).
/sad
I think thet they're awaiting the Mango launch (escpecially since that's what Swedens Microsoft reps says, but thats mainly because it wont launch officially here until then).
Otherwise I love when conversations goes like this:
"Oh, your phone is pretty fluid, what launcher are you using?"
"No, no. This is a Windows Phone 7. Unlike Android it works as it should right out of the box and it's almost impossible to get an Android phone this fast."

Lolz, similar situation here. In Malaysia.
Another experience,
I walk in to a HTC booth hosted by authorized reseller in PC Expo, the representative approach me when I'm looking at 7 Mozart, then he ask me,
"Sir, looking for a handset?"
"No, I already owned one of this" (pointing to the Mozart)
"Why sir didn't try android? It can do pretty much everything can be done in WINDOWS" (WINDOWS is the exact word he use while pointing the Mozart)
"I don't think so"
"I don't believe, what kind of task that WINDOWS can done while android can't, android got lots of apps, office, blah blah blah..." (in the meantime taking his HTC Sensation / HTC Desire, I didn't really paid attention to his phone)
"It is hard to tell you, just let me show you" (Take my mozart out which preloaded with Mango 7661 and showing him the integration of FB and Windows Live plus the threading which integrate FB chat and MSN)
"Android can pretty much do the same if you download apps from market..." (I halt his speech)
"But I prefer to do these tasks seamlessly and without all those apps hussle"
Then he is somehow provoked by me and I walked away while going to see the pretty showgirl which handling the HTC Flyer.
No marketing here in Denmark either but when you think about it, we're not really supposed to have it anyway.
It was really hard to track down a WP7 phone here in Denmark around November.
I had three choices:
A Omnia 7 with 3 - Not a possiblity since i have Telia with my work, they were also sold out.
A Throphy i had to wait a month for (even though it was released at that time)
A HD7 US import. (Really expensive)
Ended up with my Trophy! Glad i didn't go for Android.
i think i live in the singularity, where 6 of my friends have it, too (switzerland)
but for others, i tell them it's not an iphone the 20iest time..
Thanks for all the responses, people! I don't feel quite so alone any more

people in Switzerland know how to buy quality
They may want to coordinate with Nokia for a big push with the new Nokia phones. Nokia had a huge retail presence in Europe the last time I was there. I think the advertising dollars would be best saved for Mango + Nokia in every shop.
Here in Taiwan (home of HTC), WP7 devices are very visible; pretty much every medium to large phone retailer that stocks HTC phones has one or more Windows Phones.
However, those on display collect dust while consumers play with the Iphones and Android handsets. The reason is obvious; no one here speaks english, so with no current option for Chinese display or input there's no way the average Taiwanese consumer will even be able to operate the device, let alone think about buying it.
No Chinese combined with zero support for Bing maps, Bing local search and no Taiwanese app store makes me question why they even bothered launching here.

Err, given your inability to say anything in an objective manor it doesn’t surprise me you have had difficulties adjusting to Windows Phone. It is different, ergo you need to learn. Let me say that again in case it didn’t sink in, Windows Phone is different to an iPhone, and Android, there for YOU have to LEARN.
The fact you ditched it after only a day, the fact you write like a teenage fan-boy and finally the fact that you haven’t been objective from the very first words that littered your blog here tells me and any other sane mature individual that you shouldn’t be doing such reviews any more, its a waste of energy, a waste of time and worst of all, its just plain inaccurate FUD.

Gangsta? If momma has to pick you up at school or you have to ride the bus to work, you ain't no gangsta. I agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post, good work.
At first I'd write myseld in rage.. I hate "kids" like this, people that idotic reviews of a new product with the conclusen it's ****ty because it's not like all the other comparable products. I mean only because Anroid looks like iOS, WP hast to do it too? Sure after one day, he knows everything about the Device. And if he'd really want a good navigation software, he'd purchased Navigon (or whatever it's called). Maybe then, maybe later I'd recognise what I'm doing and that there is no point in doing so, because attention is what he wants, and I'd delete my text again.

"doesnt retain info ...waste of money"
"Rip off. Author is a thief. This is a wrapper for free websites, nothing more than a bookmark. Until a proper app is released, just go to united.com.
"This app sucks"
"Worthless app. Doesn't retain data or keep you logged in. The website is much more user friendly."
"Absolute waste of money. Use the mobile website and you will get a better experience."
Not exactly the best example to defend WP!
As others have already mentioned, this guy is a complete tool.
*No receipt scanning app - I use HandyScan and I love it.
*Populating People Hub with crap contacts from hotmail account - Well... that's what you get for not maintaining your hotmail contacts better. I set a friend up, a few weeks ago, with her first smart phone... the Lumia 710. On her RAZR, she had all her phone numbers. On her hotmail account, she had all her email addresses. Have to manually merge the two. A lengthy, but necessary process that only has to happen once. That this guy can't keep his contacts in good order is clearly NOT my problem.
*Camera functions suck - Yes, there is no question that the iPhone 4s has an amazing camera with good funtionality. Actually using it though is a complete PITA. I was teaching a few friends how to select focus and exposure points on their iPhones. So much work with pressing and long pressing. Oh, and I can't stand having to press the software button to snap the photo. I'm constantly hitting the home button instead of the shutter. It's remarkably awkward and unintuitive. This, however, is only my opinion based upon the fact that I've never own an iPhone and never well, but am quite skilled in how to actually use one.
If the guy doesn't want his Hotmail contacts to show up, it only takes a couple of steps to filter which contacts show up. Using the phone one day, he never gave it a chance.

yes, but he did say there was "none"
Actually i would have used skyscanner or something else but he was saying one specific brand was not there.
As a regular consumer, who cares about what he says.
His false opinions are his own.
For gods sake judging by how he wrote this so-called "review" labels him as an iOS sheep and Android bridge troll, what a goddamn fcking retard.
I laughed so hard at this chaps apparent inability to take on new tech, he really does come across as being a pre teen keyboard warrior.
I for one am glad he doesnt like the OS, WP7 is better off without people who cannot count the amount of appendages they posess.
