Yes, it has happened to me too, after uninstalling accuweather or something like this. Hard reset works perfectly and I don't think there's other way to fix it.
TO HARD RESET:
-Turn off the phone
-Hold 2 soft keys
-press the power button for 3-5 seconds(still holding two soft keys)
-black screen will show up saying that pressing send key(green) will restore your settings to manufacturing settings.
-press send(still holding two soft keys)
-the end.
Yah but what sucks is that with a hard reset you lose everything and you have to re upload everything back on there...

My phone backs up and resets overnight, and I woke up this morning to check email etc and noticed that the 4 hard keys on the front of the phone were all acting funny.. End key doesn't beep, send key didn't open the dialer, Okay button didn't close the current window.. then I found the PTT key didn't do anything either.. However, the Windows key DOES!
Hosed around for a while, launched AEButtonPlus to check it out, reset a few times, yanked the battery, etc.... Nothing. So I went back into AEButtonPlus to see what happens if I add a button and hit the Phone button and it pops up 00ED. Weird.. So I went looking into the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys entries, looks fine as far as I can tell... Got curious and launched the Buttons preference, looks okay in there, except strangely the last screen for holding the End button has *no* selection, normally it has the two radio options, with more radio options below the second one, none selected..
So then I exit back out of the Buttons apps and are hosing around and find the buttons are magically working again. Soft reset, etc, all is fine!?
AEButtonsPlus got confused?? Nope, at some point I removed it from Startup and soft reset, was the same. And now that it's working again, all my settings in it are fine.
I am using QuickMenu attached to the Win key, so perhaps why that kept working?
Very strange.. At least it's back now, and I (think?) I know a workaround if it happens again, launch the Buttons preference.
This ever happened to anyone else?

Yours fixed by launching the buttons setting? I don't know if that's what fixed it, but it seems like it went away after that, perhaps a few more soft resets.
Any problems with the Desire anyone?
Got mine last night, put my SIM in and charged it for four hours, turned it on and can't get to do anything with it.
I'm on T-Mobile and get a pink circle solid pink trailing off (I,m guessing this maybe chases itself around like the busy cursor in Vista) then it shows the htc splash screen, white background with htc in the middle in green letters, this stays a second then goes off for then the splash screen again for a second then off for two etc., you get the picture. That's all it does, will not turn off you have to take the back off and remove the battery, tried rebooting several times and always the same. I put it back on charge overnight and tried it again this morning and the same, left it on for about twenty minutes to see if it should do this for a while and the phone and screen get quite warm.
Well hacked off!! Can't even take it back 'cos it's Easter Sunday and everywhere is shut!!!
Anyone had similar experiences?
As I can't reset via the phone software I did the phone button one, see below, still with no improvement. Mine is going back tomorrow.
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button..
Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.
Cheers.
wow seems odd, usually if ts defective it wouldn't show you the boot screen even. but this looks like a software glitch, somehow, .. but again, if its software than you shouldnt be the only one experiencing that
thanx for sharing, .. , hope you can get a replacement ASAP
Other users seem to be experiencing the same problem, I've had a look on the T-Mobile forums and it's reported there.
Sorted, swiftly replaced this morning, this phone is awesome!
After devunlocking last night, now my phone is messed up
The problem is the back, windows and search button no longer work, the portion of the screen that they take up is now like an extension of thescreen it just selects stuff as if it were at the bottom of the screen. Any help to reset all the files in root to factory, I tried to hard reset and soft reset.
Maybe I screwed up the registry or some files. Thanks for any help
try factory reset. hold camera + volume down + power. when phone vibrate release power button while holding the other 2 buttons. should prompt you to reset your phone. hope that works
Thx
I tried that but it enters USB Host mode, I also tried holding down up and down volume and power button to reset which resets it but doesn'tfixmy problem. it's acting like the part of the screen where the windows, search and back button are are now part of the regular screen and those 3 buttons no longer do anything.
This sounds rather like a hardware error. Your calibration of the touchscreen is messed up. I suggest you send it in. You still should have warranty?!
Btw. I don't think this has a connection to unlocking the phone!
If the phone hasn't been tampered with physically, it should be enough to just sync it without re-unlocking it, and it should be locked again.
Thx
I got a new one on the way. I didn't delete any files or regedit a bunch of stuff just a standard dev unlock and it started acting squirrly.
What happened is that i opened an app and then the phone went to sleep, when I unlocked it the screen started to glitch and appear to pressing on the screen for itself. I tried pressing the home button but it was lagging and nothing really happened so I held down the power button and reset the phone. When the phone booted back up and I had to enter my screen lock, I noticed that it wasn't corresponding with where I was pressing, also I pressed on the screen with a quick touch, it appeared that multiple touches registered all over the screen. Since I couldn't get past the screen lock, I turned off the phone, went into Recovery and factory reset the phone. Even after the factory reset, the problem persists so I can't even go through the setup wizard. The phone is completely stock by the way, is there any way to fix this? Or am I going to have to send it back?
I was starting to download some digital magazines I'd checked out from the library using the Zinio app. When I started, the screen flashed for a second and then the screen went black and the animated Samsung logo popped up like the tablet was powering down, or like you see when powering up. The only problem is that it's been that way for about a half hour now. It's not doing anything that I can see. I've tried to power down and it won't shut off. I've closed the magnetic cover, and it won't go to sleep. I've tried the volume up/power button reset, and that does nothing. I guess it's just going to stay like this until the battery dies completely. Has anyone ever seen behavior like this? Any ideas?
Thanks for any advice or opinions.

Try holding Power+Vol Down+Home at the same time. It should reset to the bootloader screen. Then you can press Vol down to reset the tablet.
Thank you for the suggestion. I'm back in business!
It did not reset to the bootloader. It just went dark and reset completely. No options or anything that I could see. Or maybe that's what you meant by the bootloader screen. Anyway, I didn't have to press any other buttons after holding down the Power+Vol Down+Home buttons for about ten seconds. It completely shutdown/rebooted and, once it came back up, everything seems to be fine.
Thanks again for the suggestion.
