just kidding...not much...except to clean the plastic cover....or to get another device

i have flashed gullum rom and now my camera quality is improve becouse gullum rom use nike camera driver

I remember reading an article about removing the plastic lens cover from the case (the camera itself has its own lens protector). Apparently made a huge difference. I'll try find the link for you.

Hymalaya Camera is Better than Blue Angel one

I got both... I think that Hyma camera takes better pictures. Is a software problem or the camera quality is better?
If is a software problem... what is a good camera software for the BA?
Thanx... M.
Everyone puts the crappy quality of HTC device's photos down to low quality lenses.
However, the preview in viewfinder mode looks excellent, but after the photo is taken the picture is rubbish, so obviously the lens and sensor are fine. Must be the software!

camera problem

i have a problem with the camera quality. I don't remember doing anything to the camera setup.
now
and before - before
any ideas??
maybe you could turn off automatic light compensation? 2nd soft button on the right downside in camera view.
Butt notice that the quality of all the htc inbuild camera's is not that good.
my problem was the glass that protects the camera lens, i've fixed it and now the picture quality is back to normal
Awesome pictures though, what country are you from?
I'm from Bulgaria
this is with the fixed/cleared glass

Bad quality camera

Hello everyone,
I have tried numerous of ROMs with or w/o sense , 2.1, 2.2 and nothing helps. On default settings my HTC Desire's camera really sux. Always blurry, with washed up colours. See attachments for picture examples. Every picture is bad, not just the ones I posted.
Images IMG_20100917_110516.jpg and 2010-09-17 12.46.51.jpg are for comparison. First is taken by my phone and the second one by my brother's i7500
Problem is the Battery Cover

I noticed this problem too, and it didn't make sense considering it should be a pretty good camera. I have done some research, and found a few places which attribute the blurriness/cloudiness to scratches on the plastic in the battery cover.
Check out these:Battery Cover Differences in Picture Quality.
I have tested it myself, and it really seems to be the majority of the problem. However, I have not seen a decent solution. Simply removing the plastic cover sounds like looking for scratches directly on the lens, and I have not found any commercially available battery covers with glass camera covers.
Supposedly, you can clean the plastic with toothpaste.
Any ideas on how to improve our camera?
remove plastic from Cover
hi,
same like me. i removed the plastic lense from cover. Now autofocus is faster, and it makes good pictures.
HTC Phones have never taken good or even mediocre pictures anyway.
Sony Ericsson has always been King in the camera dept.

HTC..i dont want to hit it

Hi me and my htc desire have been together for a few months now.i love her, shes been good to me,and we are deeply in love.with one exception
the camera is pure sh^t. even my old old k850i with barely no processor and no modern os took better photos,i understand its a phone..but surely someone can mod it to be better
has any one got any ideas of how to mod etc or to get a mod
its frustrating as she is the perfect phone
Why do you say that dude?Camera's fine.Stills are really good considering its sensor is a phone's 5mpx one.Don't ask too much of it and believe me,you'll start seeing it otherwise.
You do realize that k850 was a cybershot phone with xenon flash, etc... desire's camera is not the best in the market, fortunately it's good when there is a good light and a phone can get autofocus, especially face focus... then the pictures really look good.
I know the k850i was cybershot.but in fairness my wifes iphone 3g took better pics and thats bad when an iphone can beat a htc.as iphones r ****e.

I've been very pleased with the camera on the Desire. Sure, its no DSLR, but it captured this double rainbow just fine: flickr.com/photos/cylerparent/5154440847/

I have to agree that the camera is very mediocre... but i've been spoiled by my Nokia N82 which took amazingly clear pics. The desire eems to have really bad autofocus and lacks lots of detail.
if you find yourself taking more photos with your phone than your compact p&s camera. you need help.
its a phone, not a camera.
flamesuit: i had the same issue with my old iphone, the camera was sooo terrible it was pointless, so i took my p&s camera much more places. the HTC cam, however, is 10x better than the iphone.
There are some reports that removing the plastic lens cover on the back increases the quality of the pictures. Look in to that some more, it might help.
Seems like there is actually a tad bit of trolling and/or stupidity with a post or two in this thread. I have found the camera on the Desire to be excellent. If you're having poor quality pictures try bumping up the sharpness and saturation by 1. It actually makes a great deal of a difference. As for the person that said the iPhone 3 takes better pictures... just get out. lol
The camera is definitely decent but not outstanding. I still keep my N82 around as some sort of point and shoot / backup phone when I want to make better pictures. I take a snap then I send it over through Bluetooth to the Desire so I can upload it to Facebook or Twitter. Slightly better than having to pop out the memory card on a phone to load it onto a card reader or turn off your phone and slap it onto the Desire.

I agree and disagree. You don't have to remove it,just clean it very very well.If it's scratched or something,THEN you might have to remove it.But yes, looking after your lens cover does make a difference.
If you want to take pictures use a camera, not a phone.
To be fair the lens plastic could be an issue and no i have a dslr but i cant exactly carry it in my pocket.hence why i asking.the desire kicks ass this im not disputing.just tweak the camera. Waiting for gingerbread now...a long wait

I confirm a damaged lens cover seriously degrades the quality, creating a halo, a blur on photos. Easy test: take the same photo with the back cover on and off. If you see a difference, your choice to remove the lens cover. That is what I did and I am now happy again with the photos, as when the phone was new. Shame to HTC for not putting a proper glass lens cover, the only hardware fault on this phone IMO

no worries me and my desire will remain as a couple,it is the lens cover,i removed it and took a photo and just to be sure left camera in running mode and removed cover and replaced while watching, makes 100 percent difference to the sharpness and clearness, upon inspection the lens is scratched to buggery even though ive had a silicone casing on,but it doesnt cover the lens,so oobviously the test of time has got it,that means having to replace the back cover which is fine, ebay? maybe, ill try
so yeah in conclusion cameras fine, lens cover is shot lol

Well,if you know someone that makes/repairs watches you can ask if he can make a lens cover from the glass they use in watches. It doesn't get scratched and is better in any way than plastic.Other than that many people have reported that removing only the lens cover doesn't do any harm.Or you can also get a new battery cover. It's your call!

[q] front camera

if i try taking a picture using my front camera, its really blurred... is it normal?, because i had some phones before that only have VGA Frontal Camera but the images seems to be fine...
i know that we have a great Main camera, but there will be times that you need to use this front camera especially if no one will took picture of you *with you're friends/gf* LOL.. because its hard to use main camera since there's no camera button...

You probably need to get in there with a cotton bud.
You can always use the main camera with a 3 or 10 second timer.

i already did clean the lens... crystal clear but still its worst than most of VGA frontal cam?
thanks for the advice about the timer, but i'm still hoping for much better frontal cam...
The front camera is garbage. Mine makes me look bright pink! The main camera quality is also pretty average, I find it no better than my old Desire HD.

will there be an app or ROM that can fix this?
sometimes there are bits of violet color, which make me look like barney.. LOL
For the red tinge, try dropping the saturation to -1. I don't have any focus problems tho.
cleaning the lens worked for me

my front cam looked really horrible for a while... blurry, tint was way off, grainy, lots of artifacts. cleaning the recessed lens definitely did the trick for me.
Make sure you're well lit. Here's a sample from my camera for the quality you should expect.
