samsung omnia - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

ive just notice that samsung have brought out a pocket pc device called the omnia. its got a 600 mhz processor and somewhere around 128mb memory. comes with wm 6. they come in 2 versions 8gb and 16gb. wondering if this device will be suported here and worked on for custom roms. ive had a shot of one and found it to be a bit sluggish with samsungs rom. my wizard is much more responsive than the omnia (with all the tweaks ofcoarse.
im due an upgrade on t-mobile in december and i really like the phone, but only if i can ditch samsungs rom and replace it with a custom one.

T-Mobile rant about Dash and Thanks to the forum

I updated to the new 1.33 HTC rom with my Dash and I am with T-Mobile in the US.
I can not understand why T-Mobile does not add the SDHC drivers and provide a rom update for everyone. My Dash now works with 4gb and 8gb microsd cards and the cards read faster than my 2gb did. Also, the radio works better and that surprises me, since I did not think software changes would improve it much.
As far as the Dash, I would love to see a Dash II with the current design but with the following improvements:
1) 400 mhz chip set up with for power scaling options in the software
2) 3.5 mm headphone jack (Blackberry Curve has one in similar form factor)
3) SDHC ready without jumping through hoops to get it to work.
By the way, a HUGE thanks to all that worked on a process to add the new HTC and Roger's roms to T-Mobile Dash's. You have made the effort that T-Mobile does not seem to care doing.

It's like getting a new phone isn't it? I think most of us here totally agree with everything you just mentioned.
I'd also like to add the ability to control the brightness of the phone. It can be very painful on the eyes in completely dark rooms.

I agree. Display adjustments would be handy.
Agreed with everything. thanks everyone.
push e-mail for pop-imap? rather than use Blackberry Connect and paying $9.99 more, or waiting 5-10-15 min. for mail... would increase battery life

Hello Rushless
I have a T-Mobile Dash and want it to recognize my 4GB Mirco SDHC card. I got the HTC 1.33 ROM update but am unable to execute the update due to invalid vendor. How were you able to bypass T-Mobile restrictions?
Please help.

between the new update, the upgraded 4gig card, and installing the brand new smart toolkit(a real start menu!!!), oh and cant forget the new htc streamer for youtube! i was really wanting a new phone too... no complaints anymore. the process was a little complicated but that could have been because of my tattered software (i reflashed to my current version for a clean slate before upgrading and worked fine on the 2nd time)
the only problem i had was that my internet proxy setting were wiped out. i had to make a new mms and gprs. i got lucky that my girlfriend bought the same phone and i use hers for backups if i need to.
great update!

Hi rushless,
How did you update your t mobile dash to 1.33 HTC?
I've tried to find downloads with no success.
Even one on t mobile dash website is not available.
Would you let me know how to find the update files?
thanks!

Artemis is outdated

there is no update for artemis scence laste 4 month. No great rom or any update, the latest rom is just change in colour and graphic for touch 4.02
so i think Atremis is outdated.
The rom builders might abandone ship beucouse its lack in "power" if ur doing a job that takes alot of time i guess u want to make it as cool as u can and i have to say even thoug i like my p3300 i wish it had more built in memory faster cpu but for most a better lcd with higher resolution.
and why HTC dosent make updates isn´t that hard to figure out they gave us wm 6 but now they want us to buy new devices and i can say that i am probblebly buy one later becouse i really like my p3300 and hope that the newer modells will be as nice (but more powerfull)

nah i think it's probably cause they have other devices they are tinkering with at the same time.
as far as power, i got one i traded fro my MDA pro ( yea i know it's not vga but it's fun to play with when i'm not messing with my Ameo ) and it seems to be just fine
Battery status plugin ( look in the Prophet forum) works great on it and allows overclocking to the respect that it speeds up the device greatly. don't overclock too far or will cause crash's but find that sweet spot above the orig cpu clock speed and it does make a diffrence
what are you talking about.
This here came out at the beginning of this month.

Whether you want to face up to it or not, the Artemis is getting out of date. Its been available for at least 18 months possibly even more, and the new version was released a few months back so that can't make it much clearer! (HTC Polaris\Touch Cruise\whatever you want to call it.) They are constantly coming up with more powerful phones which are able to run better software so its obvious things are going to be out of support eventually. Get a decent 'Vanilla' rom, load what software you want on there and just be happy with it because I've had mine nearly 18 months now and its had the same rom on there for the past 5 or so. Once its setup how you need it why bother flashing other roms because they look a bit nicer.
well the cooking rate did fall a bit,but that's because meschle retired...now is time when new cookers learn and gain experience
so be patient
and comparing to other devices artemis roms are the best for me,i have a hermes, atom, magician and himalaya and no rom can match artemis's especially meschle's roms (apps, tweaks, functionality, balance between speed and memory)

Android on Omnia II Possible?

There is a way to put Android on the Omnia 2?
I second the request from Niccolo
I don't see why not. If it's possible on other WinMo phones, then the Omnia line is possible too. On the other hand, just as with other phones, it will probably have to be built from the ground up, especially since the Omnia II has different hardware.
that would be v.nice
i second this request. though i like winmo, wouldnt mind being able to dualboot to android! for fun and braggin rights! hehehe
I have been looking in the web very hard and i haven´t found anything.
we have to join

Hi there,
they have port android on HTC HD1. it's in WVGA and for windows mobile devices, maybe some cazy guys want to try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621498&highlight=android+HD
Supports Blackstone, Diamond, Diamond 500, Fuze, Raphael, Raphael 800, Rhodium, Tilt 2 & Topaz
I have also post it in TG01 section, like that we will know if it's working on non HTC devices.
hope that can help.
HTC Touch HD, like most of HTC devices is powered by Qualcomm MSM 72xx. Same as G1, HTC Hero and other popular Android devices. It doesn't affect us. We need rom dumped from Android device similar to our i8000.
I'm not sure if anyone's seen this, it's a new Samsung phone, their first with Android 2.1. Specs look identical to the Omnia 2. Maybe if we can get a ROM dump from this we can get Android dual-booted, which would be fantastic.
I'm not allowed to post links apparently, you'll have to add the ws -

Samsung m100s may be the answer except for the phone having a few hardware differences.

800Mhz CPU(Cortex A8)I read somewhere else that it was the same as i8000/i920, we will have to wait and see
Some 1 already ported Android on Omnia i900, know as ANDROMNIA...
Check over at MoDaCo or just search google for Andromnia..
Its still Beta project and I guess its specific to Omnia i900, might/might not work on Omnia i8000... chk out the forum and get the info u need..
Well.. ARM Cortex A8 is different CPU than Omnia 2 has. But pdadb.net claims Samsung Galaxy Lite i5700 (aka Spica) has the same CPU that is used in our i8000. Can someone confirm it?
Well it seems they do at least in the "Qualcomm MSM7200A 528 MHz" part"( i don't know if there are variations of that model of procesor). The i7500 has the same CPU.
Does that mean that Android can be ported out of these machines?
While were at it, can we get Android for my little brothers Samsung Behold I and my mommys Samsung Memoir? Thanks.

Have a look at this it looks like the exact same hardware with Android on it, the additional 'projector apps' should be easy to get rid of.
The one downfall is that the Omnia 2 has 256mb ram whereas this thing has 384. But in any case it is definitely a start and the fact that it will have Android v2.1 is pretty good news as it is very up to date.

It is the same CPU from what i can see, however typical Samsung the thing is stuck on Android 1.5.
I have no idea how much ROM/RAM that thing has.
any luck anyone?

[Q] - Any H/W mod for GN

Hi all, just a thought, since GN has mods for Kernel, ROM, Casing, covers .. etc has anyone encountered any hardware MOD for Samsung Galaxy Nexus ? like those you can open up the phone and simple removing some chip and replacing it with another e.g. storage from 16gb to 32gb.. internal RAM from 1gb to 3 gb .. etc like a PC..
p.s. after flashing ROMS/Kernels for a few months, thinking of trying something new
we wouldn't need to upgrade phone each year if the said things can be done easily
besides a phone is not a pc, and i'm pretty sure not everyone wanna mess their $700 device in such way
I bought a cable for USB sticks and use chainfires USB app. But sorry bud not sure you could pull out that sandisk chip and throw a bigger one in. Not yet at least
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
thanks all guess after seeing so many kind of MODs out there in this forum, kinda hope its possible..

No it's not possible.
Even if you did manage to open it, the chips would still be soldered to the MB.

These phones are not meant to be generally user-serviceable (and especially not user-upgradeable).
Use the phone how it is and you'll be happy. When its outdated, sell it and buy a new model that suits your needs.

How to install custom ROM on chinese mobile phone MTK6595

I have bought android chinese mobile phone and I need someone to guide me on how to install custom ROM on it. I have been searching for the last 4 days on all websites that support chinese clone phones trying to find a ROM for my phone but I have realized that my phone is not a clone of any other phone, it is simply chinese android phone without any brand name or private fake brand names.
The phone has the following specs:
Chipset: MTK6595, CPU: 2.3GHZ Oct-Core, Ram: 4GB, ROM: 40GB , Android:4.4.3 (with lots of chinese apps)
I can install custom recovery and root the phone, this is not a problem at all. The problem I'm facing is finding a ROM for my phone. So, What I need is, just a ROM that will work on my phone. Since my phone doesn't belong to any brand name!
Q- Can I just flash any ROM of those chinese ROMS that are available on the internet for MTK6595 without changing the current kernel on the phone? as I believe all chinese phones that run same MTK chipset number has the same interface and everything else!
Q- Is there a universal ROM that can just be installed on any device without touching the kernel (just like installing windows on your computer)?
In your reply, please make sure your reply is detailed and don't make me guess steps in between.
Thank you
Hmmmmmm...what kind of your phone name? It's strange because mtk6595 usually came with 3gb ram. Where you buy it?
I am very sure that your phone's specs are untrue. Because I have a similar phone as well, which I was planning to use as replacement for my Ecoo E04 Aurora which has a few problems.
The specs promised were quite similar to yours. It looks like a clone of HTC M9, and also has the rotating camera from Oppo's N1 Mini. But the phone's specs are NOT even close to those mentioned.
You can download CPU ID and then choose the option of validating the specs, and you'll find out that the processor is MT6572, it is only a dual core phone with a RAM of 512MB, and as you'd know already, the screen is not FHD, but only 960x540.
My friend, we were scammed. A lot of people bought these phones from AliExpress, GizChina and other sites. All of them have been duds. Names are similar to these: TTEM, G+, MPIE, etc.
Protip: Don't buy any Chinese phone of a brand that you cannot find on Google, because c'mon, if Google can't find it, it's surely something they DON'T want to advertise/promote.
Also, if you'd still want to flash a custom ROM, just find something for MT6752, and it'll work fine.
My device got riddled with viruses, thanks to my dad falling for all those ads which ask you to install antiviruses and speed boosters. I had to factory reset my phone, and in that process, I lost the original ROM as well. YES, this phone IS that ****ty! Just get a better ROM.
Peace.
