I have bought android chinese mobile phone and I need someone to guide me on how to install custom ROM on it. I have been searching for the last 4 days on all websites that support chinese clone phones trying to find a ROM for my phone but I have realized that my phone is not a clone of any other phone, it is simply chinese android phone without any brand name or private fake brand names.
The phone has the following specs:
Chipset: MTK6595, CPU: 2.3GHZ Oct-Core, Ram: 4GB, ROM: 40GB , Android:4.4.3 (with lots of chinese apps)
I can install custom recovery and root the phone, this is not a problem at all. The problem I'm facing is finding a ROM for my phone. So, What I need is, just a ROM that will work on my phone. Since my phone doesn't belong to any brand name!
Q- Can I just flash any ROM of those chinese ROMS that are available on the internet for MTK6595 without changing the current kernel on the phone? as I believe all chinese phones that run same MTK chipset number has the same interface and everything else!
Q- Is there a universal ROM that can just be installed on any device without touching the kernel (just like installing windows on your computer)?
In your reply, please make sure your reply is detailed and don't make me guess steps in between.
Thank you
Hmmmmmm...what kind of your phone name? It's strange because mtk6595 usually came with 3gb ram. Where you buy it?
I am very sure that your phone's specs are untrue. Because I have a similar phone as well, which I was planning to use as replacement for my Ecoo E04 Aurora which has a few problems.
The specs promised were quite similar to yours. It looks like a clone of HTC M9, and also has the rotating camera from Oppo's N1 Mini. But the phone's specs are NOT even close to those mentioned.
You can download CPU ID and then choose the option of validating the specs, and you'll find out that the processor is MT6572, it is only a dual core phone with a RAM of 512MB, and as you'd know already, the screen is not FHD, but only 960x540.
My friend, we were scammed. A lot of people bought these phones from AliExpress, GizChina and other sites. All of them have been duds. Names are similar to these: TTEM, G+, MPIE, etc.
Protip: Don't buy any Chinese phone of a brand that you cannot find on Google, because c'mon, if Google can't find it, it's surely something they DON'T want to advertise/promote.
Also, if you'd still want to flash a custom ROM, just find something for MT6752, and it'll work fine.
My device got riddled with viruses, thanks to my dad falling for all those ads which ask you to install antiviruses and speed boosters. I had to factory reset my phone, and in that process, I lost the original ROM as well. YES, this phone IS that ****ty! Just get a better ROM.
Peace.

hey guys,
i've been doing some reading on xda for the past few days to determine wich phone i should buy.
my choices are lg nexus 4 and offcourse the huawei ascend p6.
my first thought is to go for the nexus but as it's quite old it's hard to get (with carrier/provider subscription). it's possible but i have to choose a provider with wich i have serious doubts.
in that matter the huawei has better options for me.
but i'm not 100% convinced to buy this phone but i'm sure it has got great potential. i also really like to use custom roms and kernels.
the bootloader..
i've read that it's unlocked but has got some kind of encryption so in some way's you can say it's still locked.
though i've seen that recently there is a custom kernel available.. so does that mean that flashing custom kernels is possible?
(if i would buy a huawei it would be a european version btw)
i'm starting to understand you need to be on a CN version/unlocked firmware in order to flash custom kernels. what does that mean? does it mean you need to be on the chinese versions?
and what about going from european firmware to chinese? is this possible without problems/bricks?
one other great thing about this phone that it's getting that 4.4 update. is there any news that this new firmware will be open source?
i've also read that there is going to be a google edition of the p6 wich means a clean android version, wich means open source?? please correct me if i'm wrong!
my first impression reading this section is great, i see some dev's that really are putting a lot of time and effort in developing this phone.
i have also seen that the p6 had some bugs when it's launched but many of them are repaired by stock firmware updates wich is a good thing.
hopefully you can help me a little bit so i can make my choice..
many thanks in advance!

Hi,
I cannot answer your questions, I just have laid my hands on a P6. I'm coming from an SGS2 (I still use that one)
My initial impressions of the P6 are mixed.
I like the thinness. I love the material (there are only a few metallic Android phones out there). I love the speed.
However, I do not like Huawei's ROM. The user interface is more like iOS, so I installed NovaLauncher, it makes life better But it looks to me that some important Android features are absent. For example, the native Android SIP client seems to be inaccessible (or is it just me not finding it?) HW wise, having the USB/charger socket at the top of the device rather than the bottom is really clumsy. The device can get uncomfortably hot during usage.
I am tempted to try a different ROM until Huawei comes out with a KitKat update,
never mind..
my first thought went to the Nexus 4 and today I've discovered it had the best deal for me.
i had to pay extra for the ascend p6 were the Nexus 4 was free in combination with my carrier subscription.
so the choice was pretty easy.. the Nexus 4 it is..
I have it running on HYDROM, and batt. life increased a lot. Really love my P6 (coming from iPhone).
Hi there people,
I have my DHD from Jan 2012 and back then two core phones were quite expensive, now with KitKat android it seems the phone is quite fast but still one core is one core, trying to do multiple things and the phone seems slow. Also if you are in hurry and you want to make a phonecall while having some apps open makes the process SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW
So I'm thinking of upgrading, but some phones cost quite much and I did like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 spec-wise but I didn't like the price. The best price I could find it in my country is 560Euro + 5Euro(shipping) to my door.
So I though why not buy a clone with the new Chinese 8 core processor(which isn't overheat) and performs quite good(and WAY better than the DHD)?
Price? $259.99(without shipping) or around 190 Euro
From what I see here: http://www.gizmochina.com/2014/01/06/goophone-n3-v-s-samsung-note-3-whats-different-on-benchmark/
(Goophone N3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3) the difference is about 27.3% which is not much while the performance/price ratio is perfect.
What do you think?
P.S. I'd prefer if the Goophone N3 had many custom roms available but that will come eventually if more and more users are buying this phone. This Chinese 8 core processor is quite new so it will take some time before we'll see any custom rom laying around.

I have been searching the chinese market for quite some time and i found that mediatek (MTK) processors are pretty much closed source, So don't expect to many custom roms exept for some chinese ones like miui/lewa OS. I will probably buy a chinese phone but not one that is powered by a MTK processor but i'm mostly for the oppo find 5 wich has forum here on xda it also has Snapdragon quad core 1.5 Mhz , 13 mp sony camera , nfc ,steel frame , dlna , and the is fully gpl comliant and open source. :victory: . you can take a look at it here

I know about oppo mate, also they will have soon the find 7. But it's not as expensive as it should. I mean you can get a Xiaomi Mi3 with snapdragon 800 at the same price with 64GB on board (300E for 16GB and 350E for 64GB) - the problem is that you can't easily find that
P.S. If cyanogenmod could support MTK processors it would be a real game-changer. Cheap 8 core phone with similar performance as some of the top-line phones.
EDIT: Alternative you can see phones like this "Faea F2 Elite" and the company is working with cyanogenmod to bring some life to the phone. Source: http://www.gizchina.com/2014/01/17/cyanogenmod-faea-f2s-getting-closer/
So if a cyanogenmod version exists(if they complete it), it would be a Chinese phone with MTK cpu and open source android . Based on that I expect CM to roll on many Chinese devices(officially or unofficially)
I've seen the "Alcatel One Touch Idol X+" also know as TLC Idol X+ S960 with a pricetag of 300E (runs at 2GHz 8 core MTK) and performs quite good also it accepts microsd cards(up to 32GB), the only thing is the 2500mAh seems a bit low for a 5" phone but it's quite enough for most of the things. I'm thing it very seriously as I can get it without much hassle.

For the past year i have been going on and off about buying one of those phones. I probably will but untill i see a fully gpl compliant mtk phone/phablem i's sticking with snapdragon . I want an oppo find 5 because i have played with one for a few days on cm rom and it is magnificent compared to my DHD. And it ships from EU warehouse so no more import taxes. I also liked zopo very much and thl and gionee and the list could go on and on and on :highfive: But frankly i thing we should switch to some of these " no name" phones so that brands like samsung ot htc or lg could lower the prices to a more resonable value . Some devices are pure rip-offs

You can instantly forget any proper support for than knock-off. I would expect some more unexpected drawbacks from it as well.
IMO better go for used proper smartphone, than brand new some hyeagizil.

Oppo is a great phone but price is not better than any other brand phone. Oppo N1 has a snapdragon 600 at 1.7GHz and costs 449E from their Europe store, it's not exactly a bargain and although you can get it with either CM or colour-something(their os based on android), I hear that there are still lot of bugs
P.S. No 4.4 support ..yet

That's the only problem.. the support, the lack of CM roms and if for any reason you have a problem you can turn to no one as the people who have it probably don't don't more than you..
nice mobile
I've got a mediatek tablet and it's dual core @ 1.5ghz with 1gb ram and it lags worse than any device I've had... At the beginning there was no lag, over time (3 months) it started to happen. The build.prop was modified for any graphical usage to be low density which is how it had no lag...
Before buying anything Chinese make sure the specs are correct (as in do a test) many cheapos are clones of the Chinese device :0
Also before you buy ask the seller for firmware as they are well hidden...

I'm looking for a new phone to replace my ageing P990. I've been using my P990 for the last 4 years... 3 of which has been an exercise in frustration and suffering. Much of which seems focused around it's lack of RAM and nvidia's binary blobs... which require a series of work-around to get some-sort of functionality.
If I purchase a ZenFone 2... I'd like to use it for another 4 years. This doesn't mean it needs to run the latest and greatest version of CM for that length of time (but I wouldn't complain either)... but it does mean if I upgrade an app (or more specifically, when google pushes yet-another update to google play, which just stucks up more resources)... I'd like my phone to still work (this is my current problem with the P990 paltry RAM... after google play and all the other stock services start, I've got 50 megs of "usable" ram.).
So my questions for you ZF2 owners:
1) Does the ZF2 require some binary blobs? If so, how much of a difficulty will there be in re-using the BB's in future version of CM? (ie: are the BB's tied to a specific version of libc? a specific kernel?)
2) What can I not do with this phone? I *must* to be able to run XPrivacy and *a* version of CyanogenMod... which I believe is possible today. However, I'm concerned about not being able to install certain apps (ie CSIPSimple) due to the intel architecture ...and no-one really developing against it (at-least this is my perception).
3) How frequently are you restricted in your app selection due to the intel architecture not being supported?
My other option is the ZenFone Selfie... but it hasn't been released yet (so there are many unknowns: unlocked bootloaders, BB's, etc). Plus, I believe the ZF2's extra gig of RAM would give me another year or so of life from this phone .
Thank you for your help -- opinions are welcomed!
Don't worry, almost all apps run, even CSIPSimple (just installed and opend)
csipsimple working 4 me too.
CSipSimple works for me too.
There's x86 version.

Overall build quality of this phone is garbage. Got one for my wife and for the money it seemed like a great buy. After a month the phone will no longer charge past 40%. Sometimes doesn't want to turn on at all. It's completely stock. Asus's answer is send it to us and we should have it back to you within 2 weeks. I guess you get what you pay for. Asus is trying real hard to be relevant here in the US but this isn't going to get it done.

That sounds like the right answer. What else would you want in that situation?
I guess I'm just used to buying phones from the carriers. It breaks and they send you a refurbished one and you send old one back. If the phone was 9 months old I could understand. Just not to happy about a phone lasting a month and the inconvenience of the whole thing.
Had mine for 5 months with no complaints. It performs better than expected at this price point.

LG today posted the kernel source code for LM-T600L
I just noticed that there are two battery files in the folder, LMT600L_Kernel_Pie.tar\kernel\msm-4.4\arch\arm64\boot\dts\lge
one is 8000mAh battery, and another is 6000mAh battery
is it mean that LM-T600 is an upcoming tablet?
@
I heard something recently as there may be a third G8 smartphone after the arrival of G8 and G8s.
Something related with LGs idea of fold display (let's say "Dual Screen" or "Triple Screen" possibility) even though it will lack some of the futures G8 and G8s has.
Anyway, for the "LM-T600" reference, you actually have 3 : the T600, T600L and T600US and as I assume, it's well a tablet : http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=ALL&search=T600
lm-t600us
these devices do not have a dedicated post yet, how do i ask for one?
i picked up a NEW , but broken , ( easy fix to me ) tablet, and now i need to root it, VERIZION put TONS of crapware on these things..
-note- i will gladly switch the KDZ as i NEVER plan on using this for cellular, if it helps. (plus it seems ALL HARDWARE is the same across the mobile versions except the frequencies.
PS: if you ever take one apart, message me, as its not hard, but there is a few tips to share.
does anyone know , can i flash another KDZ to my LM600 ? (i have a VS version, but would like to flash the WIFI only KDZ )
the chipset seems to be the same across the 600's ?
Hello everybody.
I'm looking to buy this phone (new) as a daily driver. I know its kinda old, so I would like to ask is it still worth it to buy this phone? I don't use much apps and use my phone for texting, browsing, reddit, calls etc...
I see that there are a lot of roms for this phone, so i would like to ask are they reliable and up-to-date? Or have they been abandoned? I would like to buy a phone and be set with it for next 5+ years.
I would like to buy a phone with removable battery so my other option is Samsung xcover 4s.
Thanks in advance.

Custom 64bit roms for this device currently have a bug with the camera
If you can get your hands on one look at the Moto g7 play on ebay
It's updatable to stock android 10 and probably just as cheap as this device second hand or refurbished

Effects any camera app
May have slight green tint in photos
May only be be able to take a certain amount of photos before phone/app needs restarting
Video recording may not work in some apps or may not save file correctly
QR code scanning may not work correctly
The above list is a rough bug list and may vary on a device by device basis & rom version & apps being used

Thank you for the excellent reply. I'm quite happy at the moment with the Stock Oreo on my G5 which I recently got A-grade refurbished at a decent price as my old Moto G3 is getting a bit tatty. It seems that my old G3 is better supported at the moment as I'm running 3 different Android 10 Custom roms all working good(Floko/crDroid/Havoc).
It's a shame that crDroid seem to only cover the G5 Potter and Sanders

Thank you guys. Moto G7 is a bit too large for me as i would like something below 5.5. All the other phones that i've looked at are upgradeable to Oreo or Pie at best. Xcover 4s is upgreadable to Android 10, so i think ill go with that one. And all of the custom roms for other smartphones i've looked at, like LG G3 or G5 seem to have some bugs, or they are not up to date. I don't know is there a point in installing something like LineageOS 14, if that rom is out dated and has security holes in it.

Moto g7 play screen is 5.7 Inch but probably worth the extra screen size compared with other options
LineageOS 14.1 for this device (along with stock rom) is only 32bit so you are limited to only arm-eabi armv7 apps as apposed to later devices which are armv8 and support arm64 (64 bit) out the box
