After Desire HD ...maybe Goophone N3? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there people,
I have my DHD from Jan 2012 and back then two core phones were quite expensive, now with KitKat android it seems the phone is quite fast but still one core is one core, trying to do multiple things and the phone seems slow. Also if you are in hurry and you want to make a phonecall while having some apps open makes the process SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW
So I'm thinking of upgrading, but some phones cost quite much and I did like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 spec-wise but I didn't like the price. The best price I could find it in my country is 560Euro + 5Euro(shipping) to my door.
So I though why not buy a clone with the new Chinese 8 core processor(which isn't overheat) and performs quite good(and WAY better than the DHD)?
Price? $259.99(without shipping) or around 190 Euro
From what I see here: http://www.gizmochina.com/2014/01/06/goophone-n3-v-s-samsung-note-3-whats-different-on-benchmark/
(Goophone N3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3) the difference is about 27.3% which is not much while the performance/price ratio is perfect.
What do you think?
P.S. I'd prefer if the Goophone N3 had many custom roms available but that will come eventually if more and more users are buying this phone. This Chinese 8 core processor is quite new so it will take some time before we'll see any custom rom laying around.

I have been searching the chinese market for quite some time and i found that mediatek (MTK) processors are pretty much closed source, So don't expect to many custom roms exept for some chinese ones like miui/lewa OS. I will probably buy a chinese phone but not one that is powered by a MTK processor but i'm mostly for the oppo find 5 wich has forum here on xda it also has Snapdragon quad core 1.5 Mhz , 13 mp sony camera , nfc ,steel frame , dlna , and the is fully gpl comliant and open source. :victory: . you can take a look at it here

I know about oppo mate, also they will have soon the find 7. But it's not as expensive as it should. I mean you can get a Xiaomi Mi3 with snapdragon 800 at the same price with 64GB on board (300E for 16GB and 350E for 64GB) - the problem is that you can't easily find that
P.S. If cyanogenmod could support MTK processors it would be a real game-changer. Cheap 8 core phone with similar performance as some of the top-line phones.
EDIT: Alternative you can see phones like this "Faea F2 Elite" and the company is working with cyanogenmod to bring some life to the phone. Source: http://www.gizchina.com/2014/01/17/cyanogenmod-faea-f2s-getting-closer/
So if a cyanogenmod version exists(if they complete it), it would be a Chinese phone with MTK cpu and open source android . Based on that I expect CM to roll on many Chinese devices(officially or unofficially)
I've seen the "Alcatel One Touch Idol X+" also know as TLC Idol X+ S960 with a pricetag of 300E (runs at 2GHz 8 core MTK) and performs quite good also it accepts microsd cards(up to 32GB), the only thing is the 2500mAh seems a bit low for a 5" phone but it's quite enough for most of the things. I'm thing it very seriously as I can get it without much hassle.

For the past year i have been going on and off about buying one of those phones. I probably will but untill i see a fully gpl compliant mtk phone/phablem i's sticking with snapdragon . I want an oppo find 5 because i have played with one for a few days on cm rom and it is magnificent compared to my DHD. And it ships from EU warehouse so no more import taxes. I also liked zopo very much and thl and gionee and the list could go on and on and on :highfive: But frankly i thing we should switch to some of these " no name" phones so that brands like samsung ot htc or lg could lower the prices to a more resonable value . Some devices are pure rip-offs

You can instantly forget any proper support for than knock-off. I would expect some more unexpected drawbacks from it as well.
IMO better go for used proper smartphone, than brand new some hyeagizil.

Oppo is a great phone but price is not better than any other brand phone. Oppo N1 has a snapdragon 600 at 1.7GHz and costs 449E from their Europe store, it's not exactly a bargain and although you can get it with either CM or colour-something(their os based on android), I hear that there are still lot of bugs
P.S. No 4.4 support ..yet

That's the only problem.. the support, the lack of CM roms and if for any reason you have a problem you can turn to no one as the people who have it probably don't don't more than you..

nice mobile

I've got a mediatek tablet and it's dual core @ 1.5ghz with 1gb ram and it lags worse than any device I've had... At the beginning there was no lag, over time (3 months) it started to happen. The build.prop was modified for any graphical usage to be low density which is how it had no lag...
Before buying anything Chinese make sure the specs are correct (as in do a test) many cheapos are clones of the Chinese device :0
Also before you buy ask the seller for firmware as they are well hidden...

HTC Desire vs Samsung Wave

Hey
i saw many reports about the mwc in barcelona and the upcoming phones.
2 of them seem to be best, the HTC Desire with its awesome technic specs and the samsung wave with bada and nearly better specs.
what phone would you prefer, what do you think about bada and what about the new sense?
Bada is new, .. with little to no applications for it, while android have many applications in the market place (Over 9000 applications).
And with Android you can expect alot of support for it, but what kind of support you have for the Bada now?
I prefer Android phone over Bada in a heart beat (any Android phone, not Desire specifically)
irkan said:

More than 30000
And for same raisons as Irkan, I prefer Android for now. I think Bada is too young and has not the same support as Android.
That whole Bada OS is not really reaching me. I have read almost no articles about it, while I check out almost all major phone websites daily.
Only thing I remember is when 7 Series news started popping @ MWC, one of these major websites said something like: 'Bada OS... wel, is a long way from how impressive 7 Series is, so we are going to talk about 7 Series and not Bada'. While it may not have been these exact words, this was the idea. I see Bada OS as a OS for the 'simple' people. People on this forum are not these 'simple people'.
But hey I could be wrong about Bada OS. Anyway, HTC Desire > Samsung Wave. I just don't buy Samsung devices anymore. Plus 3.3 inch = fail. Even 3.5 inch is to small.
I trust Samsung to make their own OS competently about as much as I trust my pet goldfish to figure out quantum physics. In other words--no. Bada OS will most likely function like a featurephone non-OS.
Bada OS - Featurephone OS. Esentially that's what it is, to power its Tocco like devices.
Android - Smartphone OS
I think this is the first Samsung's open OS, isn't?. Samsung support for closed OSs was/is very bad I admit it, but I believe that as open OS and including a market platform for apps, Bada could be a different stuff from Samsung.
On the other hand the Samsung wave specs point at the best device nowadays. 1GHz snapdragon, aluminium body, templed scratch-resistant glass surface, 1500 mAh battery, 720p recording, Radio FM, BT 3.0, and 16M-color Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixels resolution in addition to this you can read easily in a sunny day on this screen, and has improved viewer angle.
Simply perfect
Samsung Wave ... perhaps with Android OS???
So the Hardware Specs and Build Quality looks good.
The Bada OS would also put me off as it really doesn´t show any diffence to Andriod, except that there will be less apps.
I´d days a perfect Andriod 2.x phone.
Or could the Samsung SHW-M120S be the same with android?
Samsung make nice tvs and screens
Don't do nice OS
Android Everytime...
Think they made the wave to grab attention for bada
you should look at Samsung Galaxy S (Android 2.1).. not this bada device
No point in nice hardware if the OS isn't any good.
The only OS's worth anything in my opinion are Android, iOS and Windows Phone Mobile Seven Series Edition or whatever it's called (from what I've seen so far)
So yeah go with the Desire if they are the only two phones you are considering, though there are some better Android phones in my opinion.

And then revolt at the sight of Touchwizz? No thank you!
I just wish Samsung would use vanilla android and focus their attention on updating their phones with the latest android builds.
Imagine the galaxy s getting the froyo update just weeks after the nexus one. A lot of people would jump ship to samsung android phones just for their after sales support.

It doesn't have a snapdragon does it? I thought it has samsung's own hummingbird cpu like the galaxy s does...
So in that way it's even better but bada doesn't seem competative to android and others
My sister got an Samsung Wave some month ago because she is in a Samsung Developer Program. Having played around with it and a Nexus One ive got to say:
Pro:
Bada is faster and snappier than Android 2.1 (don't know about 2.2).
Every App i tested ran more fluently and the battery drain was lower than on the Nexus One. From an Performance and Stability Point of View i think Bada is the better OS.
It's going to be cheaper than any comparable Device because Samsung wants to push Bada with it.
Con:
Currently there is a ridiculously small amount of applications out there, not even one Car-Navigation App. This is the Show-Stopper for me because i use my Xpera X1 currently for Music(SenseMp3), Car Navigation (TomTom), Mails and Browsing and to give up on the Hardware Keyboard that lets me write longer mails without pain and to give up on the Car Navigation Feature is just not imaginable for me.
Developing own Applications for Bada is Done in C++ which makes it quite harder for anyone who loves the convenience of Java or Python. But i think this is a reason why its OS works so well on its own.
Samsung Wave with Android
The build quality seams much better than the Glaxay S.
So is it not possible to port a nicer Android OS to the Samsung Wave?
Or it it that hard to get Bada off the Phone?
I mean they ported Android to the Iphone 3gs already.
I just really dont like Samsung devices.. they are too much like cheap chinese toys with really bizarre functions that never quite step up to the mark.
I'm sure they've released a couple of serious handsets but all the ones I've used are very much WTF!?!?!
Agreed with previous , with phones samsung not going well ,
but looking on hardware specs i consider to take this one -
just if it will be in android os!!!
Since buying my Omnia II im so disillusiond with samsung. It had the best specs when it came on the market. But the horrible OS thats on it! I had to buy a shell and have flashed numerous roms to be able to use the phone anywhere near normal. And now a year later the phone still has not got working opengl drivers. And development has probably stopped on the phone.
Never a samsung again for me.
I'm so jealous of you guys who have a desire (just a few more months till contract renewal!!)
I've both wave and desire, what should i say ... the wave is a nice piece of electronics, fantastic display and good quality but bada is not as good as samsung want us to believe. very little apps, half-baked apps (email e.g.) and often unintuitive handling. It has not that flexibility android has. But in deed batterylife is much better then any other smartphone i know except blackberrys and we've to consider that its version 1.0, so maybe bada's development is as fast as android's - as is know samsung, i don't believe.

It's looks like similar for me, but for Eten devices, so at least clear now the situation.
Then need to wait similar device from HTC , about 3.2-3.5", 1GHz, small weight and powerful battery on Android

What phone to get after Desire?

I had HTC Desire for nearly 3 years, and it is a great phone, but I think it is time to upgrade, because:
- it is annoyingly slow with my regular set of programs installed, even on fastest available roms
- it doesn't have kernel 3.0, and because of that JB roms have shortcomings
- a little bit too small screen for GPS navigation
- really crappy camera
- somewhat short battery life
Some time ago I had a chance to look at Galaxy S2 in person and it looked like a perfect phone (at least for 2 minutes I had it in my hands).
Somewhat bigger screen, more internal storage, kernel 3.0.
I use custom roms, so big development community is important for me. I have been spoiled by Desire as it (still) has a large one.
Galaxy S2 would cost me around 170-200 euro to get it.
Should I take that, or look for something else in this price range?
My requirements:
- larger screen (not necessarily much larger)
- android (duh)
- solid build quality
- large development community
- noticeably faster CPU than Desire (Dual+ core would come in handy)
- microUSB
- good/very good camera
- good battery life
- price up to 200 euro (used)
- would be nice if it had FM transmitter (not receiver) but it is not necessary
- it must by BLACK or therebout
I also considered s2 but there's one serious setback to it. Namely, the screen is amoled and without pentile matrix.
What's bad about it you ask? pixels that are frequently used lose color and items that you have on screen for most time are somewhat paler than the rest of the screen, and you can see their shadow for the whole time, ppl reported that with all amoled displays and non pentile of s2 is even more susceptible to that. That happens even to devices 3 months old, depending on how heavily they are used I guess. You can google it to see for yourself, just type galaxy s2 amoled burn in. There are also few good YouTube vids showing that. Items that you usually can see are burned in status bar, soft keys from your most used app, keyboard, alarm icon and "fully charged" sign across the screen as during night charging the phone lights up when battery is full and keeps the screen on until you turn it off or unplug it/on some ROMs at least, stock including/.
Is Desire not affected by that?
Then what else would you suggest?
Only first edition of desire pvt1 I believe had amoled screens, the rest are sporting slcd which is not organic and does not suffer from this burn in effect.

Go for SGS2+. It is newer phone, available almost at the same price as SGS2, probably have warranty and no burn-in effect of any major cosmetic wear.
But I think there is no black variant, but dark blue.
Price is 200-230 EUR.

S2+ makes no sense, is more expensive than regular s2, has same screen with same setbacks and worse gpu, videocoreiv vs Mali 400.
Sensation seems good, but I've got no experience with that phone.
If you want a dev community supporting your device, avoid htc phones. HTC is terribly slow when it comes to releasing updates and sources.
If I helped, hit the thanks button!

I disagree with you. But again, it is on him to pick something that he likes. We are here to suggest him.
I like HTC Because of Sense, speed (on some new devices) new features big rom list's etc. I dont like samsung bcs every new phone (LG,ZTE,Nokia,Sony, and many more) are copy of Samsung,Same android UI, same phone design i will say. JUST A COPY .
HTC Have some original from begining of production for me that is a great and like i sayed i will suggest you to buy some HTC Model (HTC One X, HTC Sensation.not new but very good, HTC One v (it is not so special but it is very good, speed, and it is very Cheap)
But if you want to buy some other phone mark Yes i will suggest you to but SGSII or SGSIII Mini. Mini have small Display but have great camera great speed great support and what is importatt you can find it for 170/80 Eur
If i helped something to you give FIRST THANKS to my profile
+1 for the sensation, i baught mine used for 100 euro and its like brand new, i got it off a guy cheap coz it was stuck in bootloader lol, i got it home, flashed a ruu then s-off & rooted and it has great dev support, loads of sense roms, 3.5 - 3.6 - 4.1 - 4+ and now waiting for team venom to release sense 5. Also loads of JB - AOSP roms and 4.3 JB roms, really is a great phone with good hardware to handle all roms.
About sensation, the newer roms have working camera/video or is it stuck with that issue like our old desires?
And how do you cope without the trackpad, I tend to write lengthy emails/forum posts and it's a great tool when I want too correct something, yet no other phone has it. does it mean trouble for guys like me?

everything works, and i never really used trackpad on the desire.
I would never buy sensation. Death grip issues and dust under screen glass is way too much for me. Sgs2+ is ftw in my opinion.

I read around here that s2 display is horrible when compared to s3.
s3 has even cheaper feel, and is 100-170e more expensive
Sensation is useless to me.
Price of S4 is absurd...

What bout One X/S? In ireland they going for bout 175 - 225 euro, good all round phone and fairly solid.
One S would be good bargain, but no official 4.2.2 for him. He is eol already, unfortunately. One X is expensive, like S3.

My friend is selling his One X for 200 euro in mint condition, he dont use it, its just sitting in his drawer. I was gona buy it but i always wanted a sensation lol. If ur interested i could say to him, he has it a while so maybe i can get it cheaper for u. Postage would be round 10 euro. Let me know
P.S - im not dodgy r that, user k3lcior had no gps antenna so i gave him mine from my desire (coz my desire is dead), free of charge, and i posted it to poland.
well if I may make a suggestion, I would say get the Nexus 4
Pros: (according to what you listed)
larger screen and clearer screen
will always have the latest and greatest Android OS since its from Google
I don't remember the build quality on it but I know its at least better than the desire
haven't checked the dev support but since its a bit more open.... should still be better than the desire
very fast 1.5GHz quad-core CPU
microUSB
8MP camera and a 1.3MP front cam
decent 2,100 mAh battery
and most importantly it comes in Black
Cons:
its $300 which about 224 euros (so slightly over budget although sorta worth it)
no FM trasmitter
limited storage and no SD card expansion
so really its an amazing phone, its mainly only brought down by not having an SD card slot but if you find the 8 or 16GB models fine then I'd say go for it.

[Q] Downside to 4G LTE?

Noob here who has decided on Samsung note 10.1 for my first tablet ... but which one? Looking for fastest performance and longevity. Does the added mobility of 4G degrade performance during WiFi operation? ... are there disadvantages other than related costs?
tx in advance!
I will advice the 4G version because it have the Snap800 like processor and have the 4G that is better and faster like 3G.
Finally, the Snap800 will have more support from dev then the 3G with the Exynos by Sammy
The trade-off will be reduced battery life most likely if traveling in weak LTE areas.
I'm leaning towards SD800, especially after what I saw in the picture
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4
Thank you for your replies. Looks like only the 4G version has the faster SnapDragon800. Ok that's settled.
Between32 and64, will the 64 remain faster as the memory folk
fills up or is it all the same in respect to performance?
Tx for answering my dumb questions!

I wouldn't say that the sd is faster just yet, there are no real benchmarks out there just yet for the new octo core 5420, based on the few cryptic leaks they seem to think that the new octo might be a tiny bit faster. Im not going to jump to any conclusions just yet, I would preffer the sd800 on my device if only for the cyanogenmod support
Will you be able to use this device as a phone? As in does it have a dialer that you can use with a regular SIM like the old one?
I'm getting the one with the Snapdragon processor in it.
Sammy promised that they will include HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) in their 5xxx processors . Ie; they will make s4,note3 and note 10.1 to real octa core processors through a software upgrade (say kernel upgrade)...so guess , which will have higher performance , sd or exynos? ? ? ?
And also exynos version will have wolfson audio DAC in it , so exynos defeats sd in audio performance

I would welcome an LTE model on Verizon except it will be limited to 16GB of storage and I just won't accept that. You need 32GB or higher internal storage for apps not medial content that is what the microsd is for.

I think I read that the phone version (which won't be sold by US cellular companies) is limited to 2G. I would love to hear differently.

I would welcome an LTE model on Verizon except it will be limited to 16GB of storage and I just won't accept that. You need 32GB or higher internal storage for apps not medial content that is what the microsd is for.

Whoa..that's completely unacceptable (I'm Verizon). Agree on 32 min. Where can I find spex on Verizon's version?
The spec sheet Mashari_F posted helps differentiate among variants but I'm still not clear.
I'll likely have to wait until later in Nov. for my own good ... see how users are feeling about SD VS. OCTA and see what Verizon puts out vs. Wifi.
Tx!
16GB should be fine, I have tons of apps and games installed on my 16GB old note 10
and still have 4-5GB left, if you are planning on installing huge games like nova 3 (I think it takes up 2.2GB) then you might want to consider the 32GB instead
if you root and have a nice size microsd handy, you really wont have to worry about it
So, if you want the best CPU, you have to buy the version with a cell radio in it? That's kinda dorky, since I can just tether to my phone. But I guess if I want the best CPU I gotta buy the 4G (that I won't use).

Yes, sure.
Because Snap800 support LTE.
And Snap800 version will be better then Exynos
See the S4, the S600 have more support that Exynos Octa...
We dont know which is more powerful yet, this is the new octa core, not the old one
Wait for benchmarks from the new one to see

lol, benchmarks...
I won't see bench, because they don't have a lot of sense.
Snap800 will be supportated because devs know the architecture and they always have the source code...
Isn't the same for the Exynos...
It's like S3 for the Cyano
So, ATM, Snap > Exynos

Samsung released the kernel source for the Exynos version a few days ago (sammobile.com/2013/09/20/samsung-releases-kernel-source-for-galaxy-note-10-1-2014-edition). I'm not very familiar with all the lingo, so please enlighten me: Is this not (all) the source code that devs need to do their thing?
Can someone explain why someone buys an expensive note 10.1 only to install cyanogenmod and lose all the exclusive features? (Spen, multiwindow, ir blaster, and some other things)
Just buy a nexus 10 or wait for the new one if you are going to do that

The big problem there isn't the source code, this was an older problem, but the structure of the partition and the core.
If a dev will build a kernel, the source are here.
But, trust me, snap have a source code more easy, it's quadcore, and we know all about this.

No sense.
There isn't any sense...
In fact, i will buy it only for the feature of the tab, not for the Cyano rom
Maybe, someone, will work on a tweaked rom Touchwiz based.

How to install custom ROM on chinese mobile phone MTK6595

I have bought android chinese mobile phone and I need someone to guide me on how to install custom ROM on it. I have been searching for the last 4 days on all websites that support chinese clone phones trying to find a ROM for my phone but I have realized that my phone is not a clone of any other phone, it is simply chinese android phone without any brand name or private fake brand names.
The phone has the following specs:
Chipset: MTK6595, CPU: 2.3GHZ Oct-Core, Ram: 4GB, ROM: 40GB , Android:4.4.3 (with lots of chinese apps)
I can install custom recovery and root the phone, this is not a problem at all. The problem I'm facing is finding a ROM for my phone. So, What I need is, just a ROM that will work on my phone. Since my phone doesn't belong to any brand name!
Q- Can I just flash any ROM of those chinese ROMS that are available on the internet for MTK6595 without changing the current kernel on the phone? as I believe all chinese phones that run same MTK chipset number has the same interface and everything else!
Q- Is there a universal ROM that can just be installed on any device without touching the kernel (just like installing windows on your computer)?
In your reply, please make sure your reply is detailed and don't make me guess steps in between.
Thank you
Hmmmmmm...what kind of your phone name? It's strange because mtk6595 usually came with 3gb ram. Where you buy it?
I am very sure that your phone's specs are untrue. Because I have a similar phone as well, which I was planning to use as replacement for my Ecoo E04 Aurora which has a few problems.
The specs promised were quite similar to yours. It looks like a clone of HTC M9, and also has the rotating camera from Oppo's N1 Mini. But the phone's specs are NOT even close to those mentioned.
You can download CPU ID and then choose the option of validating the specs, and you'll find out that the processor is MT6572, it is only a dual core phone with a RAM of 512MB, and as you'd know already, the screen is not FHD, but only 960x540.
My friend, we were scammed. A lot of people bought these phones from AliExpress, GizChina and other sites. All of them have been duds. Names are similar to these: TTEM, G+, MPIE, etc.
Protip: Don't buy any Chinese phone of a brand that you cannot find on Google, because c'mon, if Google can't find it, it's surely something they DON'T want to advertise/promote.
Also, if you'd still want to flash a custom ROM, just find something for MT6752, and it'll work fine.
My device got riddled with viruses, thanks to my dad falling for all those ads which ask you to install antiviruses and speed boosters. I had to factory reset my phone, and in that process, I lost the original ROM as well. YES, this phone IS that ****ty! Just get a better ROM.
Peace.

same here, my dad's chinese phoneS had all bricked, just buy a phone with brand

I just realized this phone has a mediatek...

Mmmh ok this phone has a mediatek processor ... nothing against it but ....will we see ROMs in the future ? Kernels ? Is it even possible with mediatek processors ? I read that will probably never see a good version of gcam :c
Developers are working on it.. Hopefully they will develop a stable gcam for RN8Pro soon.
8 or 10 devices have been sent to developers from xiaomi i think the development is already growing almost daily something else has been developed. Kernel source code has been released ( partial from what i read ) and as far as Gcam it's pretty much already out but not 100% yet. This must have been a impulse buy for you not to know it was running a mediatek Soc. Be patient dev is under way just takes time.

I came from a huawei 8x as a work phone because my note 9 is too big and my xiaomi mi mix 3 is too easy to get dirty because of its slider front. Iv'e had a few mediatek powered devices and they was nothing great but i thought i'd give this a try. Things are taking off with this phone it's cheap enough and its got everything you could want. LMAO i thought it had a amoled screen myself so i'm guilty of being confused ( the umigidi X has the amolled screen not the redmi ) i got confused between the 2. Overall i'm happy with the RN8 pro works perfect.

Software ...well it's MIUI 10 ... screen is good the brightness is ok sometimes I don't know why it randomly turn it all the way down but I think is a software problem .... God is ok signal is ok ...battery ...I reach 6-7 h of screen and I was 20%
Works good battery is real good, it's fast and smooth, the screens pretty good I run dark mode so it looks good. In my work place steel building it works very well as far as reception, wifi works really good, the audio is loud to the point it distorts, but in all it's very fluid not buggy at all. I just seen on Reddit there's a snapdragon 730 redmi note 8 pro coming out. SD 730 isn't a great processor so I don't get why they'd change it up.
Thank you both! i will wait a bit to see if the 730G phone is actually a SD version of this phone
