hi guys, i bought my Diamond 3 weeks ago and its been good for now..
i have the original 1.93.456.2 rom. but i see in the benchmarking that it has the lowest score of all.
i want to upgrade my rom, but dont know which rom to upgrade to.
i see the stats and benchmarking but dont understand which one is best for me.
i mainly want it to be able to open medical programs as fast as possible, like those at www.skyscape.com .
and has all the standard features it has now, by the way, i never use gps, rarely use internet or wifi. i take pictures and videos, rarely music, make phone calls and sms and i use the medical programs a lot.
current radio is 0.5 and its working good and i live in the middle east, and i want the htc keyboards, especially the letter recognizer..
plz guide me to choose the right one.

i would choose the rom in my signature. of course the v2 version. its the official rom nothing modded you need to be afraid of and will give you extra gain on speed.

Bepes 0.99dx version, its fast and also has the new drivers and after upgrading to it before installing other softwares do a hard reset again and then u can start playing with the ROM. i use it and iam using all medical programs but first of all before any software installing after the upgrade i change the internal storage card name to "Storage Card" because many medical softwares uses SD card as there install memory so i suggest after upgrading u nee the cab file to change the internal storage to storage card PM me if u want it and u can go to my site there is links to UpTodate and other medical softwares u want.:
1- skyscape products
2- UpTodate 16.2 (change first internal storage to storage card before using it)
3- Medical wizard (Anatmoy)
4- Medical dictionaries
5- etc .........

hi all, this is my first question on this site. This site is incredible for the wealth of info put forward by its member, credit to all you guys.i have flashed with a couple of the roms on my universal mainly tmobile and o2 and imate, but i desperately want to try the orange rom, does anyone know where i can download this from.thank you in advance.also praise due to buzz, what a techie,gr8 stuff.THANX
thats brilliant, i wouldn't have the guts to do that, just a few questions
1.Which ROM have you found the best out of the box? (from the 1st turn on)(added applications etc)
2.say you are on O2, were you able to still make calls/txt/mms on the other roms, (changing the settings etc maybe)
I have an Orange M5000 that im using as a bluetooth modem right now to use on the internet though GPRS (not in a 3G area)(only because u get 1gb allownce for the first 3months!), I would like to help you out with my ROM but i wouldnt even know where to start
THANX FOR YOU REPLY.I WOULDNT ASK YOU TO DO ANYTHING YET,i have done a lot on both the magician that i have and the universal.i have read a lot of discussion on these topics on this website.in my experience,if you are on a contract then yes you are dead right with what you say.at the moment on my device i have about 30 programs on it,it runs suitably fast enough for me.i have unlocked and unhidded the extrom and deleted it.i have an o2 exec running bits of tmobile and a bit of o2,because i have an tmobile sim.the unit is superb despite the neg comments on it,i have had masses of pdas and this is the coolest.currently i have xda exec, mda compact, fujitsu loox720(TOP CLASS PDA VERY DIFFICULT TO BEAT),TUNGSTEN T3,NOKIA9210,SHARP SL860.I would read more on here though because you can increase the confidence level and the level of knowledge u have.the way to do it is to unlock the extrom then soft reset, then unhide it then soft reset have u can see whats on your extended rom.i have an extra 10 meg now i am waiting for buzz god to find out how to delete the partition.the orange has the best today screen interface hence why i want to try it.the files can be copied onto a pc then zipped and posted.only try it though once you are comfortable.flashing roms onto the pda is far more gods will, wouldnt recommend that unless you are totally confident.
yes you can change the settings although i am happy with the config at the moment, easier just to install the extrom bits
Dear xda-developers forum,
I just bought an HTC artemis, very nice phone, and was searching for apps for it, most of links in the search engines returned to here ( xda-developers ), so I thought..this must be the best website on the net specialized in PPC, so I registered..and this is my first post
To be honest i always were a symbian fan, but i wanted to break the rule this time, I'm new in windows mobile world..please help me!
I just have one question: Can anyone tell me how to install the latest version of WM6 (I currently have some WM5 version), and then show me how to turn it into a nice touchflo device (what's this cooking all about)???
Thank youuuuuuu!
Have a bit more of a read round the forums and then carefully follow the instructions for installing a new ROM.
I've got 6.1 with touch working though I have to say that the touch stuff is very limited.
Once you've worked through it, it is easy enough as long as you follow each step carefully.

Did you buy a new phone or a used one? Just wondering since new phones come with WM6 & not WM5, I got a new one 4 months back.
And like knightnet said, have a look around thr forums, check out the wiki & you will see guides on installing a custom ROM. You can try it out but personally I'm not a fan of TouchFlo on the Artemis - it ain't got the processor or memory for that, TouchFlo is heavy. You can also find the new TouchFlo versions around in the forum, the kinds which come with Diamond & later phones with those smooth sliding. That TouchFlo is pretty slick & I like it a lot & had it on my Artemis for a week but then removed it as the phone has become too slow to bear it.

yes, my artemis is brand new, didn't really need it but it was on sale
it has OS 5.1.342, build 15096.3.0.0 (whatever that means!!)
im on this forum for the last 6 hours learning how to upgrade the phone, thinks a little clearer now, but i have new questions (that makes me a noob, saw this term used here when a pro wants to pick on a beginner, i really dont know what that exactly means )...
so i want to know if i can backup the original rom before doing an upgrade, or is there a place to download them??
I have :
ROM version 1.12.415.1 WWE
Radio version 2.67.90 (which is old compared to the ones available here)
thaaaaaaaaaaanks!

There are some standard ROMs available I think, I remember seeing some when I was looking to change mine (it's been a while I'm afraid so I'm a bit hazy). But you can and should back-up your own.
It isn't easy being a "noob" in phone upgrading - I remember what it was like & I wasn't being nasty to you (honest!) but the instructions on the wiki are clear after you have followed them carefully. If you've backed up your existing ROM and taken out any additional memory cards (oh, and charged up the phone before starting - just in case), there is really no danger of "bricking" your phone.
Don't forget to back up any information on the phone as well. I use the excellent PIM Backup for that as I can shedule it to do a daily backup of all of the PIM (Calendar, contacts, tasks, notes) data and any other data I want (I back up the internal memory "My Documents" folder) to the memory card in the phone and then regularly copy that to my PC (and from their back up to a server on a different continent - though I am a bit paranoid about my data!).
So go for it
guys am i am trying to put a new ROM in my artemis....!!!

I expect that there is since all FLASH memory has a limit.
However, you won't be hitting it any time soon even if you were to FLASH a couple of times a day!
Hi everybady !
I am new here.My son give me his HTC Hermes(att 8525) and I need your help.
First I want to know is there a room very stable and faster, with no to much app. and programs. Some of rooms wich I use blackt my phone and connect automaticly with data connection when I disconnect of wi-fi (I don't have data plan and I use only wi-fi in home and in work)
I like full scren foto for contacts, you tube, opera mini, weather.and maps.
I hope is somebody to help me.
Thanks in advance:
hi,there are many great roms here,i think every one is good.
you can test the roms by joshkoss /TAI_Sw /kareem9nba/abusalza / farres
but these roms don't include all apps that u like.
you can find them in the forum.
[31Oct08] WM6.1 TOUCH Build20924 V27 from Dvha79_ddt [Basic & Full] NetCF3.5 is very ood
ok
Thank you monkeyfocus !
I will start test these rooms.
HARD SPL YOUR DEVICE 1st!!!!!

Try this - http://www.mrvanx.org/guide/hermes/upgrades/hardspl

Its better to know a bit about the risks first than to jump out of a plane then realise you forgot your parachute,,,,,
Also, there is a ROM request thread where you can ask for a ROM that has what you want.
Thank's both of you.
I check and I already have hardspl.
I'd suggest you try an M2d rom... M2D has got everything you need in an easy to use UI except fullscreen contacts n works really great if you dont install alot of programs. I saw a nice one with a really nice matching fingerfriendly contacts app too.
After I had try some rooms with touch build or M2D, with miscellaneous problems each every one,and especially last night with V15 dark winter G2 when I almost lost my phone,I decide to use CRC-13.3 normal.
To now this room works very good and I think to keep it.Here is device update with good app or programs.
I really wants full screen contacts and I don't know work with these room and where can I find it ?
Regards !

I personally like the CRC roms. They have a lot of room for additional programs, are very stable and fast. They don't come with much so you need to find programs you like and add them. His roms are UC Complaint (a script that will install all the cabs you have specified upon flashing).
For full screen foto for contacts use icaller. It's free. Search for it using the "search using google" feature. Plus the author gives a lot of support. It's also easy.
Opera Mini is free. Check out JZ's Browser which will allow you to use all the browsers you want with ease.
The easiest free weather program is http://tonaya.com/products/wtg/index.php here. It works, doesn't take up much space but doesn't have all the fancy icons either. It does have a today screen plugin. There are others such as SPB, Secil (free and here on this site), which are more graphic intensive and work well.
Google Maps is free. Just go to google and download the latest one.
If you want youtube and music I suggest CorePlayer. It isn't free, but it's worth it since it will work with bluetooth stereo headsets, play all type of movie files (avi, divx, mkv, mov, wma, etc..) and all types of music files (mp3, lossless mp3, etc...) and has a built in youtube player.
These are my suggestions. Also if you want to have a lot of space after flashing your rom stay away from the manilla/touchflo 2d roms. They all come with tons of programs and don't leave a lot of space to install other programs.
Remember to read what the others have suggested before flashing so you don't brick your phone. CID/SIM unlock it with HardSPL before you flash a custom rom. It's easy and instruction manuals are available. Also if you flash a BIG Storage Rom later, follow Dr. Puttingham's direction of flashing a stock rom, a new radio and then the custom rom you chose to avoid the phone being unstable. You get a lot more internal storage so it's worth the extra 10 minutes.
Lastly, please read, search, ask questions and learn. Beyond that get the biggest microsd card you can to store all the great programs and goodies you will accumulate. 16gb are out now but the 8gbs are a great starting point space and price point wise.
Peace and welcome to XDA-Devs.
Just remember with the UC compliance, any app installed by the script is installed to the phone memory, NOT the sd card...
Hello!
Yes,and I like CRC roms and it is working good and from device update I finde
opera mini, google maps and some other good app.
I think I made my minde for these room.
Thanks all of you for helping and advice me.
Hello,
i have a Problem. I have a Diamond with about 5000 Contacts.
Problem is, that with the standardrom, the diamond is very slow.
So i tryed some other roms and got no better rom. Most times, the Diamond freezes when you try to open the contacts.
Maybe someone has a good suggestion for a "High Performance" rom for me.
Thank you very much.
They are all the same!
ready to get flamed at
hm... maybe there is an tweak to make the contacts database smaller?
Try an external contacts management app, like PocketCM, iContact, YotaContacts...
try a 6.5 rom... maybe the outlook contact handling is better...
it'll OS limitation than anything else...
another suggestion, maybe delete all info/user pictures/store only 1 number...
but 5000 contacts?... damn
delete people you dont call any more?

5000??!!! woahhhh. i bet u havent even met half of the 5000.
your diamond didnt freeze. it's using all possible resources just to open your contacts. open your contacts and leave it to search. lets say an hour or so? make it 2.
Thanks for all this answers. I will try this external tool and a 6.5 rom.
The owner of this device is a Marketing/Salesman so he needs those lots of contacts :/
With 5k contacts, I guess you're running out of RAM / balloon.
just write a program that calls thaousands of contacts.. it's spamming anyway, so, why do it in person
When you've got contacts open... do you have some free mem left? If so, it's a speed issue. Most roms with 6 mb pagepool will be too slow for you. Raise the pagepool to get some speed!
use a databse software like accessmanager for ppc.
generate intelligent mask/filters. not needed load first all contacts if you only need the phonenumber of madonna or don king or ....
if needed example and have a little time to wait (a lot of time
than ask for it.
no garanty but possible

Ok, I've tried about "at least" 90% of all the ROMs for Diamond. I'll tell you without any shred of doubt, the fastest & most stable ROM with tweaks no one other than Microsoft even heard of is Dia Duit 1.3. Lots f space too - with EVERYTHING (xbmod manila, games, apps, etc) I want installed in the system RAM, I have about 60MBs left! When you boot up the first time it'll ask you a good bunch of questions include a "system performance profile"make sure you choose either tweaked (fastest) or balanced (medium). You will never use another ROM!
Regards,
A happy diamond user (!!!!)
Hello,
thank you for all your Answers. So i have now many things to try
udk r6 may suite you, by the way best is using icontact for your contact browsing.
cooking(compiling) roms really isnt too challenging of a task and then you could customize exactly what apps you want on the phone which could help with system performance.
also, advanced config will add performance if you expand you file system cache.
Hi everyone
Just got myself a xda orbit. Has WM6(don't know which ver,how do you find out??) Have to say a I do like it... So am wondering what are mods people would recommend and why(please give links)... Is there a better camera, Gps mod etc???
All comments welcome

So is there no one out there can answer or offer advise????
Any recommendations for which wm6.5 rom is most complete, fastest, and upto date etc??

Best rom ...
Now thats a difficult one as its personal preference. i would say shadys rom is the best performer. dheetwares looks the best with manilla 2d interface but emrulez is most untouched true to ms version about. be sure to make sure you read up about flashing your rom first. after a while you will will find one you are happy with. ps if you want a finger friendly keyboard look for qvga ezinput. hope that helps.

If I am totally honest it has been a long time since I have run any 6.1 rom. In fact the day I got it I flashed it from its default rom so it would support sdhc.
Since going over to 6.5 I would not change back, it is so much easier and nicer to use. As for performance, the rom by Shady seems smooth and works very well, plenty of free memory. Shady, Emrulez, Dheetware etc are all legends and have done a fantastic job delivering these roms and are constantly delivering new roms based on the latest code. They all seem pretty stable and as far as I am aware all are fully functional (wifi, gps, camera, bluetooth etc).
Best thing to do is try it yourself!
Also with regards to backing up. I personally use PimPPCBackup (you will need to find and download the cab) just syncing with Outlook keeps your contacts but loses text messages, other people might be able to offer a better way of doing it.
Hope that helps
Hi a_lai82
Thank you for your reply. And looks like I will be updating very soon...
As to the backup question... What I meant is can a restore a full internal back up or will I have to reinstall everything??? I use Sprite backup to periodically backup the internal storage so am hoping it will be a simply process of just doing a restore after upgrading to a newer rom. If not it will be a pain as have 254 apps installed!!!!!!!
regards
Lohtse
with pim backup you can specify to backup files as well but i dont think it does app. i have heard you can set it up so that when you reinsert sd card after flashing it will auto install cabs but i havent tried that myself. btw camera software seems a bit better. sorry about lack of paragraphs and punctuation as i am on my phone!

I don't know of any way to retain all your programmes. Some apps on your sd card will just run if you add a shortcut in the start menu however anything that is installed on the phone memory, or that requires registry entries will need to be reinstalled.
Unless someone out there knows differently.
That also puts me off flashing my rom, however when trialing Android on my phone it wiped my SD card so I lost all my apps! Since then I only every reinstall about half a dozen apps.
In short if you have your phone running well you can generally add apps to make it do most the stuff in 6.5 such as touch flo. SPB mobile shell 3.5 (paid app / 15 day free trial) is an excellent app works on the original rom and allows for easy use and a bit of an android style home page. Coupled with ezinput you will hardly every use your stylus which was the goal for me.
Hope that helps.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
This really putting me of the upgrade..... with over 250 apps installed I don't fancy the reinstalling.... was hoping that sprite backup would just copy all the data back(apps, settings, registry etc ) and would work... Hmmmmm may just not bother...

Well I have never used Sprite Backup, but there website implies that it will backup all your applications as well.
Maybe someone else on the forums have tried it and might be able to give you a little more advice on the matter.
All the best
Sorry for stealing your thread, but I thought this could be good lace to ask:
If I flash my rom to newer one, how can I keep my TomTom navigator program ? It originally came with the phone...Thanks.
