Considering a Diamond to replace my Tilt.
Last Friday, PC Magazine reviewed the Diamond, highlighting its pluses and considerable negatives in this article:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2321616,00.asp
Could any of the ROM developers or others in this thread address what, if any, of the negatives in the article are eliminated or mitigated by ROMs developed here, such as battery life, poor Touch Flo screen response & generally buggy, slow software? (PC Magazine is hoping that US version will be better.)
Regardless of response, thanks to all for really helpful discussions & commitment to bettering stock ROMs.
Hmm... crappy review
I don't think that's a fair review to go by, but then again, i love my Diamond . I think the Diamond addresses a different kind of user then say an iPhone would. I for example don't mind making a backup (which takes about 30 seconds), and then flash new ROMS. as for the downsides:
- Sluggishness: This is, as far as i'm concerned, all fixed in most recent cooked ROM's. I started out with dutch 1.34 firmware (or was it 1.35... i'm not sure... the slow one though), and eventually got kind of ticked off. Flashing New ROM and some minor tweaks fixed this
- Keyboard eating up half your screen: Well, some ROM's include a smaller keyboard, though you definitely need a stylus to work it (i have thin fingers, so i can pretty much operate the full keybord with my fingers).
- Windows Mobile visible in places: For day to day use you barely ever run into Windows Mobile. And for the places you do it's a small effort to put the font-size to a few pixels higher so that everything's readable and clickable with your fingers.
- Opera issues: bull****. Works perfectly. Recent builds even more so then the stock one.
- Speakerphone quality is crap: well... yes it is. but it's a speaker phone, whad'ya expect? 5.1 sound?
- YouTube locking up his handset for 65 seconds: never heard of it happen, have quite a few friends with this phone. Application is quite snappy actually i think, considering the amount of data it has to process.
- Little additional software: How's adobe reader, flash lite, opera 9, google maps, office mobile, standard games + teeter, album viewer, jblend java, htc zip and a youtube player sound as per standard?
All in all i think this is an immensely biased review, from someone who probably hasn't used it for more then 2 days. If you give it a week to get used to it and personalize/tweak it you'll love it (i do, previous phones include Samsung i600 and i320, HTC Touch, Orange SPV M600, Nokia N73, so i'm not exactly new to smartphones).
I've never experienced the bugs in Opera mentioned in the article.
Most of the cooked ROMs on this site are significantly faster than the stock 1.93 ROM. As a reference, I can say that the diamond in the article is said to score:
SPB Benchmark: 378.11
CPU index: 2258.69
File system index: 176.37
Graphics index: 366.36
The presently fastest cooked ROM (Swtos v.095) gives:
SPB Benchmark: 512,41
CPU index: 2290,21
File system index: 214,74
Graphics index: 1688,14
That said, my honest opinion is that the Diamond UI is NOT as responsive as the Iphone. A lot of people here hate the comparison, but as a happy Diamond owner, this is my verdict and everyone who has made a direct comparison will tell you the same thing. There ARE still minor hickups, waiting for apps to start and slight lag in the TouchFLO 3D. I hope these will be eliminated entirely, but we're not there yet.
I'm presently using SwiftBL 6.0 FULL, considered as a fast ROM.
Many of these reviews aren't helpful to be honest, they're just more of the tired old apples versus oranges debates by people who don't much like oranges.
I can sum it up thus:
There is simply no device on the market giving more punch per unit volume... and that is by some margin.
This is why I got one, and it's turned out my decision was inspired.
It does however have it's drawbacks, and this device certainly isn't for every one (at first I had to prime it for my wife when she pinched it to make a call), but love it or hate it, the WM platform is so versatile, and is so ultra configurable, that if you put the effort in you will be handsomely rewarded... I think mine's great!
Being the owner of both diamond and iphone 3g. The best advice i can give you is going for the diamond. Forget all the other crappy phones. well i just use iphone as an ipod + web surfin I knoe i could go for the ipod touch but i like to show off that is why i just bought it. But trust me mate TOUCH DIAMOND WITH A LATEST COOKED ROM KILLS ANYOTHER DEVICE IN THE MARKET.
PS: Oh well if you like keyboard then go for the Touch PRO which is better than diamond. I am just waiting for it to come on vodafone uk so i can upgrade my contract.
Ehm? What? Heh?
This must be the worst and most unbalanced review I have ever read.
His whole critique could have been replaced with "it's not an iPhone". And you know what, that's absolutely true!
I currently have a Raphael, Diamond and Kaiser in operation. My preference is in that order. (I'll take the Kaiser over an iPhone though).
If you're coming from the Kaiser, you will love the Diamond (though really the Raphael is the Kaiser replacement here, not the Diamond).

I believe the review clearly shows why the Diamond isn't for everyone. The reviewer gives a very plausible view of the feature-hungry but regular Joe who just buys a cool phone in a store. This "Joe" did actually take the effort of upgrading the Diamond to latest stock ROM, but the quirks still left him frustrated and wanting.
The Windows Mobile platform and this great forum gives us power-users the means to address these quirks and that is exactly why I choose the Diamond over the Iphone. With the Iphone, you're left at the whim of Apple, who still more than a year later can't even offer something as fundamental as landscape typing, except in Safari.
Still, most users can't be bothered to go about the amount of modding that the Diamond requires to fulfill its potential. I'm a newbie still, yet I've spent countless hours reading these forums. I think we can agree, that kind of effort is not for everyone and that the Diamond without tweaks and with stock ROM, is quite a rough cut.
But, I have to give credit where it's due. When it comes to responsive user interface, the Iphone has raised the bar for ALL touchphones, and by a fair margin too. This is a good thing, comparing is a good thing - because it will make the industry and HTC to strive to adapt to the new standards.
The Diamond is a super device, I love it, and compared to other WinMo-devices it really excells too. But why is comparing it to the Iphone like Apples and Oranges? I think the majority of buyers in the market for a touchphone considers BOTH the Diamond and the Iphone, and probably the Omnia too. And all devices has their advantages and disadvantages, in the end it comes down to personal preference.
But still, wouldn't it be great to get the best features from all of them into one device?
So keep comparing and keep the whip on those developers! =)

Well you don't seem to disagree that much, you just use more words
On many points we agree, but that is because of the apples/oranges thing.
As I said, the Diamond is not an iPhone, and if mr average joe considers it to be one, that is their mistake.
The iPhone simply trades features and power for a sleeker UI. And though it is not there yet, WM will get this responsiveness as well. And it will not be HTC driving this, but rather MS themselves (mark my words). The slacking HTC is doing on many of its former devices and which is still partially there on the Diamond and Raphael will not be tolerated any longer. Though of course WM could be further optimized, do not forget that HTC can do all that the chef's can... they just don't
You actually say it yourself, you are left to the whim of Apple on many points, but in return you get a very responsive UI. This is just the other end of the spectrum from WM.
You will see, by the time the iPhone has the power of WM, WM will have the UI of iPhone. The only difference then is will you go with the Apple and still let all the decision be made for you, or will you go with MS and decide yourself what you want your device to be?
Yes, it would be great to have all those things. And we will. Just not yet
Thanks, everyone, for the quick and substantive replies to my question. The multiple perspectives are really great and are one of the valuable aspects of these forums.
Ive had my Diamond for almost 2 weeks now. I must say... after the excitement of taking it out the box, to being bitterly disappointed with the sluggish UI (to the point that I actually took it back to the dealer and asked for another phone), I must say that after discovering this forum, things are looking much rosier.
I'm slowly but surely starting to , as someone previously said, unlock the potential of the diamond and starting to like it again.
If you are expecting an iphone-like device, don't get this phone unless you are willing (and have the time and skill) to customise it. Its going to be a frustrating journey for you if you don't.
If you've already owned a wm device, you will probably love it (after customization)

I've been the owner of an HTC P3300 for almost 1,5 years and I'm seriously considering of abandoning the device. My main reasons for abandoning the device:
- you have to use the stylus too much. Face it: Windows Mobile simply isn't made for finger usage. Too many buttons, tabs, menu's etc are too small to control with your fingers in a comfortable way
- the device is getting too slow. I've been annoyed more and more lately about the speed of the processing capabilities of the device
- The good Artemis cookers have left us. There's little hope that the 'perfect' finger friendly rom will ever be cooked in the future. (no offense to the other rom cookers that are still there)
Strictly speaking about functionality the Artemis and any other recent Windows Mobile wins against an iphone. Speaking about usability, after 1,5 years always running the latest customised roms (B&B 3.7, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.0 & Artemis Touch 4.01, 4.02, Oops Black v1.0) I think that I am tired in spending time in trying to improve the capabilities of a device by constantly upgrading and reinstalling stuff which should be provided by the company ofering the device on the market.
Looking at the iphone, it has a high level of usablility, it's finger friendly from its launch as it should be, runs smoothly, and its software is constantly being improved. I will never have to start installing addons or hacking registry keys to improve the usability of the OS itself.
That sayd, i''m gonna buy an iphone next week Good luck in the future all you guys with your Artemis, but i've had it with it!
BTW, I just notice my signature is already way out of date
I already have 5 HTC devices but no Artemis yet...
I voted yes because Artimes is much the same as some of my devices and I'm happy with them. I will be getting an Artemis for shure if I find a cheap second hand.
I would rader have a phone with all functions I need ...then a finger friendly Phone witch is missing some verry important apps
i'll be happy with it...my dad and cousin have it and they are ok with it,i had it and it was great...(i still maintain those two and they work like a charm)
if you decide to abandon it...i'll be happy to provide you my address (for shipping)
and i am willing to pay...both device and shipping
PM me if you want
thanks very much
Hi,
I couldn't miss my Artemis for the world, it was once in repair and I bought a new one second hand. I have it from 2006 now.
I find it perfect cause of the all in gsm+gps+wifi and perfect pocketsize and second hand price now +-€250 is relatively cheap, newprice around €350 (bought it for €550! in 2007!). It's no too small and not too big.
1- Have no problems with Artemis concerning stylus and there are 'fingertouch' programs or roms. I have the resco big keyboard for sms and picturedial in one fingertouch.
2- Processorspeed : nothing wrong with it!!!
I use gps (IGO8 heavy graphics) & call via Bluetooth together, not slow in any way.
The rom i have is the Russian WWE rom with lots of ram free.
Wifi is also fast enough but I use laptop for bigger screen offcourse.
I have also mame-roms and tested lots of software, no speed problems.
With batterystatus you can overclock to 240mhz or something, but unnescessary, and remember, fast processor = battery exhaustion. In past i had the XDA 2i & E-ten G500 (both processors about 400-500MHZ, so double) but don't miss the 'faster' processor. Have my P3300 one week in my pocket now, and battery still 25% thanks 2 the TIO OMAP processor!
People say the processor is slow, but i wonder which applications they run together then??? Maybe pocket-photo-shop or do they edit movies or something ???
3-Actually I found out that the best cook is yourself. I never cooked a rom myself, but the smartest thing to do is take the lightest rom as a base, and put your own software on it. SPB Mobile shell for example for greater today looks, Greatball Samurai weather, ...
I test now and then new roms for fun if i'm not missing anything, but you own tuning is more fun and you know what you install, no unnescessary tools to remove...
I would only be prepared to buy a new device if the price is the same.
The HTC Diamond is nice for example, maybe within 2-3 years also €250 second hand.
Most advantage for P3300 is the SDHC cardslot vs Diamond has 3G (but don't miss it at the moment)
Cheers & enjoy our Greek God Artemis
Ciao,
Innovator
still happy
Brought a used 02 Orbit from the UK for about $230 AUD delivered, have updated the Rom and find it fast and stable. it has everything I want except for HSDPA.
Having said that will more than likely buy a touch diamond when released in Australia ....
1. It has HSDPA
2. It is 19 grams lighter
3. Looks more modern with the flush screen
But in no hurry, as mentioned happy with the Orbit
Hi all,
Still happy with it.... obviously it'll not last forever but i believe that other devices are still "doing more of the same thing" and 2 years are not enough to throw away my 500€ device....
Regrats
i am still very happy with my artemis. i use spb mobile shell and that's all i need for finger friendliness (considering its a WM device...).
i am considering to get a touch diamond because it looks like the first device that is really a newer generation than the artemis (hsdpa, lighter, better look, better display and vga, more memory and faster processor). the touch diamond offers more in almost every aspect.
next time my provider wants me to profit from one of these outrageous offers i will probably get the touch.
I voted Yes, still happy!
The roms that are available are all pretty good, I'd say, and the things you're missing one widely can add using some Apps - just have a look at the Development and Hacking section.
As you've mentioned the iPhone there's enough people around who ported the interface to WM - sometimes better, sometimes not.
But even where the iPhone seems to be the state-of-the art these days in terms of usability (haven't tried it myself), there's one thing I'd be missing: free software!
Sure the Artemis never was actually really fast if you compare it to others.
Still it's fast enough for me, so the point of time when that'll change is still way ahead!
Cheers,
Markus.
I'm also still Happy with my Artemis. I could play with IPhone 3G and also with HTC Diamond, but I won't change to one of them.
IPhone's Menu is really terrible structured. The Sync Software of IPhone is Apple like unstable. And I don't need 3d TouchFlo wich is used in HTC Diamond.
I will change to a new Phone, when the finger friendly WM7 has arrived in a stable version.
Greets
Roman
Yup..still happy !
I had an upgrade recently and because I was bored (I have a low theshold for same ole same old) I got a Nokia N95, and a Blackberry Pearl, just so I can amuse myself.....but nothing prepared me for the withdrawal shock of giving up my Artemis.
Needless to say, those other phones are back in their boxes in the loft, and possibly soon on a website near you.
I wont be surprised if after a while you get fed-up with the iPhone and it's 'cult-like' approach to hardware and software, and start groping for your Artemis....which hopefully wont have been gone !
still happy with the artemis, but the voice in my head starts yelling "diamond !! go get a diamond"

I went twice in a mobile store to see Diamond. I did not felt like "I have to buy it". It 's beutiful but I m not sure it will be my next mobile. There are a lot of discusions about problems, alot of new roms, tweaks to make it faster. Why should I be in a such trouble? My Artemis is "flying" with Vanilla4.1.
Maybe Touch Pro or Xperia will make me change mobile (or find diamond in a really low price).
Voted Yes
I'm one of the first HTC users, started with Wallaby year's ago.
Since then I was happy with my Himalaya (still using as second mobile phone), not so much with Alpine (as there was never an WM5 or WM6 version) and never with the Blue Angel (too heavy and keyboard unusable).
My very best mobile so far is the Artemis.
Fast like no other, very stable and full of functions I do really appreciate (as for example GPS, FM Radio).
Last week I got my Diamond and I really regret to say, it's not worth to buy it.
Slow like chewing gum, the Touch screen is really annoing me as using the stylus I'm sick typing up to 3 times the same position to have the function working.
Say to me I'm old fashined, it's OK.
But so far I will stay with my beloved artemis
I'm still happy with my device for what it does. And it does a lot!
I've gotten bored with it from time to time but I always come back to it. It's stable, fast, very capable, and it's very intuitive. You don't HAVE to use the stylus because you have so many input options. For one, the buttons you complained about. You don't like the buttons? That's what makes the Artemis unique - it's a small keyboardless device, with plenty of input/navigation options. It's got the scroll wheel, a pointer, a scroll ball, I've added touchflo, and 11 hardware buttons (great to use with Hbutton). There's no reason anyone shouldn't be able to set this phone up exactly they way they want to get to everything you need quickly. The programs I use most are opened with the press of one button. And inputting text with my finger nail is easier to me than using a keyboard too.
If you're not satisfied with you phone, you probably don't have it set up right for yourself, or your just bored with it. But for productivity and intuitiveness, I personally think it's one of the best WM devices ever. I bought it not because of prestige or hype like the you know what phone, but because of the lack of complaints about common problems with the device. It has none! It has the most solid reliability history - way better than the TyTn II, Trinity, the Wing, or the Eten devices I was looking at before I bought the Artemis. All of these devices have common issues like, short memory, screens going bad, bad BT stacks, wacky software, slow (even with 400Mhz), ect. The Artemis does not have one common issue that everyone has except WM itself.
And the iphone, are you kidding me! You can't do half the stuff you can do on the Artemis on the iphone. And the 3G iphone has a bunch of issues with it right now. Don't understand why people think they're going to avoid issues by going with the iphone. If you're a multimedia person, yea, but if you actually use your phone for productivity, you will not be happy with the iphone. It doesn't even multitask! If you want an iphone because your needs have changed and it fits, I'm happy for you, but I totally disagree if you think the iphone is better than the Artemis when it comes to capabilty. It all depends on your needs, but the iphone would never suite my needs. All in all, this is the best WM device I've ever used, and I've yet to see something worth upgrading to - even the Diamond. How do you quickly switch from one application to another to copy and paste rapidly on a Diamond or a iPhone? I just press the "e" button on my Artemis that's mapped "to Alt Tab" which toggles btwn programs. I can easily do that because I've got 5 other buttons to use for other stuff. These phones barely have any to use. That's one of the reasons I love my Artemis.
And why is everyone so anti-stylus? You don't really have to use it but it's great for writing out whole sentences at a time.

i am currently selling my iphone 2g 16GB, which i thought would be a worthy companion to make me dump my P3300...as u read i am selling the iphone!
the p330 is an all-day gear machine, which combines a number of simply working devices in one: phone, tomtom navigator, ipod/music player, office synchroniser...and the lot...and all that for a mere 100 euros these days in ebay europe!
stuff iphones and the flashy design and screen...i need a companion that works, is maintainable (exchangeable battery) and doesnt need to be pimpered and cared for in a daily basis -
greetz
p.s. htc touch hd would be an alternative, but than again i just got used, after all those years, to simpply using my p3300 without worrying about a bump here or a shake there...
i bought p3300 around 3 years back. i am satisfied with its performance. i bought nokia n900 few days back. my younger brother told me to give him one of these sets - i gave n900 away. cant part with p3300. n900 seems to have a juvenile operating system. no proper applications. moreover with that big screen they dont have a proper media player like core player or pocket player. i find my p3300 with omap far too advanced. everything i need i have on it. i format it but dont flash it - in say 6 months.
i vote for p3300. and yes, no sissy iphone for me.
Yeah!
Even I voted Yes. Because I have bought it from 2007, and I every month change its rom, I get updated and enjoy my time.
On the other hand, the processor is also not too bad!
I f you want to use Phone, Office, or write messages, that is good with FingKeyb 2.1
By the Way, it's your wish to sell it.
Best Wishes!
Thanks,
Don't revive an ancient topic please
This topic has been originally posted in 2008. I bet the OP doesn't even have the device anymore. Secondly, it's in the wrong subforum.
Therefore this topic is closed.
Just figured I'ld post this to weigh in.
I love WM. The TP was actually my first WMPhone and I really loved customizing it, ROMs, and in general HTC as a company. Easy tethering, tons of detail, thousands of programs. I hated the TP battery, waited six months for the TP2 to finally come out and changed to Tmo just to not wait anymore. Obviously, I'm a (relatively new) fan.
However, in all my reading and browsing, and mixing and matching Roms and programs, I got annoyed with the endless glitches. It seemed customizing was a chore to fill gaps half the time. And so I waited to hear about WP7.
On a random decision, after loading DualBoot and Android on my TP2, I bought a Nexus One just to have the Snapdragon and multitouch (HD2 announced for Tmo like 3 days later lol). But I kept my ears open for WP7 and totally expected to move back in October.
I know you guys are all WinMo, but to be honest this has to be a common feeling. Look how popular Android on TP has become. We have been looking for something, but wanting it to be windows.
So, the point: my experience.
A.) the nexus one has made me sorely miss a keyboard. However other than that I actually like it. The battery is at least equal to TP2. Things that are chores on WMo are easy on Android, like Fbook integration of contacts and maintaining stability. Having several open programs is such a non-issue battery wise and slowdown wise that there isnt even a freaking task manager or close program button. You have to download a program, and its not that common. You just leave everything open. Zero slowdown. Same battery, more or less. I don't think its superior to WM, more like a close cousin that doesnt share the bad family traits. In the present climate, Android is very similar to WM.
B.) and now the hard part. WP7 looks nice. Looks great actually. Devices will surely be as cool as always. But set aside your loyalty and look: what do you tell your friends you like about WM, why you stay with it? Customization. Open program downloading and creation. EFFORTLESS MULTITASKING. Endless differentiation between companies, UI's, and phones. Where the $%^& is what we love in WP7? Complicated, apparently limited, multitasking that sounds too much like Iphone. Closed development. Limited, almost meaningless so far, customization. Closed App environment. The best anyone can come up with so far about differentiation is adding freaking keyboards and hardware colors. Does anyone now wonder why HTC started shifting more support, and Sense, to Android?
As much as I hate to say it, I will probably stick with Android unless WP7 pulls something great out. It looks great, but so does the Iphone and that is not something I consider wanting. My nexus one has everything I love about htc, and adds in perfect stability and customization. Hardly anyone bothers posting apps online, but only because the Market lets basically anything in! Tethering apps, rooting apps, whatever. Let's face it: Microsoft appears to be spurning its loyal fanbase. And Google is waiting with open arms.
WP7 does not appeal to me at this time with its current UI. They should have hired SPB mobile shell to create their UI.
I like most droid devices (not the motodroid) and the OS is extremely responsive and easy to understand. Haven't done any detailed work w/ the andoird OS, but WinMo customization is what keeps me here.
I agree Trev.
I believe the software industry, much like the music and film (big and small screens) industries, is changing. Open source is the way forwards as people are more able to communicate with each other the need for centralised programming is going to more and more take a back seat.
This means margins will be cut and I'll be supprised if MS, being such a large organisation will be able to keep up. Maybe this the reason for the speculation on WM7 being locked down, so they can have a greater control over revenues. I've read an article which mentioned that MS consider Linux to be a virus that gets into profitable areas of business and destroys the margins. That attitude won't get them anywhere.
I don't think WM7 will have anything new. MS are in the business of preserving what they have and not winning new customers. WM7 will be safe, not amazing.
Android is new so nothing is set in stone. It will be more flexible, open to new ideas and will grow it's market share. They let pretty much anything into their app store which will allow anyone to have a go, not just a centralised "elite". This will help to keep it new too because it's not just the same people going through the motions because it pays the bills. The is what keeps this forum alive.
The MS business model is dying and being replaced with something that's better for the consumer. Much like the short haul airline industry changed

Absolutely right! Wouldn't surprise me if google is working on an OS for the pc. If they are I would be scared if I were MS.
On another note, i'm not sure what people mean when they compare winmo to android customization. You can customize android just as much as you can custimize winmo. Do these people ever visit the android forums and see all the customization people are doing with their android phones? Any hard core winmo fan will not miss customization moving from winmo to android. I just think some people are having a hard time letting go.
I have also felt like this for a while. Mainly due to being given an MSM7200 for 3 years! Sure there is the HD2 with the snapdragon but that doesn't have AT&T 3G bands and a couple other WM phones with it too, but none that I like.
I would have switched to Android (and still will) if a phone comes out that meets these requirements:
1) WVGA Screen
2) Snapdragon
3) NICE keyboard, comparable to TP2. This is the best keyboard I have ever used.
4) AT&T 3G bands.
The only phone that comes close is the Motorola Milestone on Telus (unlockable). It doesn't have a snapdragon but a decent processor. Its keyboard also sucks.
Google do have an OS. It's called Chrome, like the browser, and it based on Ubuntu.
And Microsoft seems to be basing their business on people not letting go. It's sad really, I wish they'd try harder
I would not care if my Tilt 2 came with Android or WinMO to be honest. They are overall about the same to me.
I got the Tilt 2 because I wanted a qwerty keyboard, with a large very high quality touch screen as well. And I did not want an internal HD like iPhones, I want interchangeable light weight cheap storage cards! That gives me unlimited storage. All that, on AT&Ts service plan.
It did not hurt that it cost me $50 to upgrade from my Fuze to the Tilt 2!
If Microsoft would open up WinMO so the different phone manufactures could customize the OS for each phone, companies like HTC could do amazing things with WinMO.
I honestly wish HTC would update their software for their phones more often.
Keep TILT2 or wait a few more months???

I disagree. But then again, they keyword here is "me". To you they're overall the same. Which is somewhat of a true statement. They both lend themselves to customization and both have plenty of funtionality. But where Android sets itself apart is speed and stability, which I would take anyday. What good is a phone that has all this functionality, when half the time the functionality doesn't function properly or you have to tweak the hell out of the OS to get it to work properly.
So, So true
I remember feeling a weird sort of guilt for liking Android so much when I got my N1. I had spent so much time on my TP2 to get it right and the N1 came "right", right out of the box. Granted full free tethering(with free options) was not there, but everything else is. I think the guilt was all the time, I don't want to say it.... wasted.
I remember starting a thread that really ticked a lot of people off. Just mentioning how Android was what real functionality and customization should be like and BAM!, flame city.
When it was just Windows Mobile or another smartphone option(you can name them), there was no choice. Now with Android, I feel I have made the most equitable of the choices. And the little pleasures of the choice I have made are the reason that it would take a game changer of a WindowsPhone7 to make me think of going back. The lack of weekly(with the best of Roms) or daily resets(just to keep the phone fresh), glitches, memory leaks(a given), freezes, weird pauses and the like, which rank as my largest pet peeves, are my joys with Android. I have reset the phone twice in 3 weeks only to change a memory card and another time just because. Not one freeze, slowdown, memory leak, not in what's going on a month, which I can't say of the TP2 in the same time period. Which was the motivation to flash it. After agreeing on the almost overwhelmingly unanimous feeling that it was the best shipped Rom in a long time!
Yeah, no more of that for me , thanks....
I agree. If Windows "Phone" 7 is going to be as rigid as the other mobile operating systems are now; where's the fun in that? Personally, what NRGZ28 has done with his EnergyROMs especially his most latest is why I bought this device in the first place; he did remarkable work with the Wing. That's me! The work these folks do is nothing short of outstanding; all of them. Now, I don't know enough about the Android devices other than there is a whole lot of folks liking them but everybody I've talked to who looks at what I've done to my TP2; their eyeballs and tongue roll out of their heads; they can't believe it can be done and with the latest ROM I have on my device at first glance they think they're looking at the HD2 (Leo). If Windows "Phone" 7 (I'll never get use to calling it that) is going to follow the path of everybody else then you're probably going to see the bulk of us jump ship; but what cannot be dismissed is are we the majority or are we the minority? My Wing was living proof Windows Mobile 6.5 could run on it as were many of the Windows Mobile devices out there at the time. But smart phones like desktops are becoming as powerful as netbooks today; maybe notebooks. I've had my desktop PC for years but clearly the software today is forcing me to consider a new PC with 4, 6 and 8 GBs of RAM; my current PC maxes out at 512mbs. I've read good reviews about Windows Phone 7 and the moment the HD2 comes out I want it, but I also know the market is going to be flooded with TP2s and they will come down in price as they've already have now from $349.99 to $269.99. What is unknown is how much will the HD2 costs given it's horsepower and upgrades to the US market. We all have to remember there are other devices that will be released after the HD2, for example the Tera, looks like the TP2 with a 600mhz CPU. There is the HD Mini, smaller than it's bigger brother and I'm sure there will be a TP2 style device with the 1GHz Snapdragon maybe clocked higher. I kill to have a HD2, but I also know it is wise to wait. I have read nothing that says it won't be upgraded to Windows Phone 7, though with the exception of XDA, PPC Geeks and other websites; it might be awhile. I've had Windows Mobile 6.5 on my TP2 day one and then on my Wing; it didn't officially release until when; January 20, 2010.
"I would not care if my Tilt 2 came with Android or WinMO to be honest. They are overall about the same to me."
That is the feeling I generally got. I dualbooted android on my TP2 and basically still loved the phone for exact same reasons.
"I remember feeling a weird sort of guilt for liking Android so much when I got my N1. I had spent so much time on my TP2 to get it right and the N1 came "right", right out of the box. my sentiments exactly. except that full free tethering is available. same way as on wm. with some customization. i just rooted my n1 yesterday and got the tethering. works perfect.
As for new comments since original post... I am ever more convinced I am right. When I finally rooted my phone (much scarier than hardspl'ing my tp2 i must say, though not too difficult. similar to Pre unlocking.) it locked in that I'll stay with Android, unless they release a WP7 phone without the tiles and with full customization. Check out the android forums. I just flashed Sense onto my n1. I almost laughed.
It has the exact same look and feel as Sense on Winmo! Same keyboard. Same dialer, almost, so now I dont miss smartdialing. It even has a version of the sliding homescreen with texts and alarms, etc. It feels exactly like the day I flashed 2.5 onto my TP2... only it didnt hamstring my phone at all. It just worked. Customization is more complicated but ultimately more rewarding and way more usable on Android. It's sad to see so many posts agreeing finally. I figured I would get flamed too. This is a Rhodium forum after all! I will probly try to leave this thread alone to not bother the Rhodium guys. I loved my phone and would never trash it now that I got the n1. But I don't regret it at all. Still miss that fantastic keyboard though.
Oh and to the Milestone loving guy... go try that milestone. The keyboard is a joke to me. Its just like the droid. hard flat keys. At least it's finally centered on the phone though. And its sad someone mentioned the milestone as decent powered, it being a low end Droid. But then again, Android still has the G1, which is so much a joke its why I hesitated to even try Android before 2.1.
One final comment:
Are we the majority or minority? Obvious answer: minority. Or else they wouldnt be catering to the masses with 7. However: masses follow trends. Trends come and go. Our minority I would define as a LOYAL FAN BASE. Up until now. What happens when your LOYAL BASE is lost? Obvious answer: your company is a victim of the masses, lol.
Look at the Palm Pre. I had one for about a month before Rhodium. Fantastic OS, always stable, so easy to use. I reccomend that phone to every teenager wondering what phone to buy, or person who doesn't want to bother with the phone. But Palm built its empire on the Corporate and Power User. And then ditched them with Web OS and no poweruser form factor phones like HTC has. They arent necessarily dying, but with alllll that buzz, why do I constantly read reports of their company struggling with insolvency? Because they ditched their fanbase I would say. Sadly, I bet MS banks on WP7. They have the power of laaaarge budgets. But what happens when Iphone 4.0 or whatever the next buzz stealer is comes out? Hope they picked the right group.

I agree with this. Companies alienate their loyal fanbases all the time in pursuit of of larger sales. There's nothing wrong with niche products, even when influential tech blogs try to declare your mobile OS "dead" even though you still have roughly 20% market share in the space.
I'm with the OP on the original point as well. I've defended WinMo to the death in the face of hordes of iPhone users and what thanks do I get? A dead Moto Q9h (replaced under warranty), a quirky Palm Treo Pro, and a Tilt 2 with a dead touchscreen (also being replaced under warranty). I applaud MSFT for trying to standardize the hardware experience of WP7, but I can't stand the walled-garden, locked-down UI, app store approach. Android is the most logical choice for my next phone - that Dell Mini 5 is looking pretty good.
There appear to be a number of folk here who feel that WP7 is a step backward from WM6.5 in terms of feature set, customisability, hackability etc. What then would people propose as an alternative once WM6.5 is finally dead and buried, Android? Iphone? Symbian/ Maemo? or will you give WP7 a chance?

So much fight here about it.....
Well I'm still not decided.
But I know I want to give WP7 a go.
Looks great and I would be happy to have clean, unified UI.
Limitations which are apparent on WP7 make it unusable at this point.
Android is the most complete but I just really don't like it's interface...
Probably staying with 6.5 for some time....
i personally cant be bothered to hack my my phone and look for custom ROM to flash. surely people only do this if they are not happy with their phone.if you dont like the OS. dont get it. its the reason why im not getting android, or an iphone. all phones have great features missing from them. and wp7 is only in its first phase improvement like copy and paste will come. ive only got 1 complaint, and that is that i cannot use it as a flash drive but then again, if i did that, would it slow down to a crawl??? wp7 is dead easy, i dont have time to muck around like i used to with wm6.5 on my touch diamond 2. i want it all, and i want it all now. so im sticking with wp7.

Same thoughts here. Was cooking my own 6.5roms to get a slim and working OS but sinceI got my HD7, I've stop cooking totally because WP7 is very fast and stable for me. Sure there are areas I'm not happy with, but at least, I have more time to live my life now since I stopped cooking roms.
I'm not here to convince anyone to go WP7, each OS has it's pros and cons, and each of us are completely different and see things and have different needs, so we go for different phones, something that works for us.

LOL , you just made a lot of people angry by stopping with cooking rom's .
I think I will stick with wm 6.5 for awhile. I use it as a Mass storage device & tether with it often. I also am really used to using smart dialing which I can't understand why it wasn't added to WP7. I'll wait to a few months after WP7 lands on Sprint to see what the updates have brought & what hackers have opened. If more functionality is available on WP7 I'll get it, if not I'll go with Android when I want to upgrade because of hardware
shouldn't this be in the winmo section???

I'm going to wait for the 2nd generation of WP7 phones and OS (or at least an OS update or two). I was ready to get a focus, then I realized I'd be losing some features I enjoy on my TP2 (multitasking, tethering, call manager) just to gain a newer OS.
I also want premium hardware and design which the first generation doesn't seem to offer. DVP comes close though.
i switched to android, never looked back

There should be another choice "I would celebrate with Dom Perignon!" Please put the 6.5 out of it's misery already!
One thing is sure for me, I will not be joinging the iPhone family.
Possibly Maemo or Androd. Depends what kiind of devices will be out by then.
W7 only if there has been lots of needed updates and/or hacks/roms and such.
Any poll in a specific device forum will always have support for that device.
Poll threads should be in common forum to get a neutral response from ALL, IF the thread starter wants to know EVERYONE's opinion.

Life after WM6.5 to which he refers is precisely WP7. then the correct section!
A little off-topic, but correct!
I found that I was having to flash new ROMs etc to my 6.5 because the UI and features available to a standard WinMo was rubbish. I never liked the 6.5 OS much, I just liked the ability to customise and look deeper into the phone
I am now on WP7 and would never look back on 6.5.
At the moment I don't see I have much choice - Android here I come I think.
The gains in slick simple UI are insufficient in my case to outweigh the loss of functionality vs 6.5.
Many of the other advantages (gaming for example) are of no interest to me on my phone (I am not the target market).
I will stick with 6.5 until at least Phone Alarm is released for Android, then it will become viable for me. Hopefully this will be early 2011.

 My premium phone standards were set by my SE X1, not the TP2. I would really love to see a WP7 version of the X1. Hopefully the X7 will deliver. But knowing SE, it won't be released until next November.

Ditto. X1 was excellent.
Currently on X2 which is actually better in many regards.
Anyway, I just hope SE will make it around Feb/March.
So it will catch upgrades which are for me necessary.
And until core apps I use on WM 6.5 will be functional/supported
I can just wait for some time....
I find it hard to believe anyone speaks of the death of WinMo in the present tense. It died for me like 2 1/2 years ago and since then the iPhone has taken over the smartphone market, Android has taken over the spot WM6.5 used to occupy and Microsoft has done practically nothing until very recently. I bought a Focus and I like it, it's a magnitude nicer and easier to use than my old Fuze with WM6.5 and while it's lacking a lot of the functionality, that will come with time and, in the meantime, I don't need to take out my reading glasses and itty bitty cramp inducing stylus to use it. The Fuze is still sitting on my desk, unused, with a noticable layer of dust on it. And there it will sit until I finally tire of looking at it and throw it away. And good riddance!
I cannot speak for anyone but for me, I have been windows mobile user ever since palm treo with windows on it. Before making switch to WP7, my device was Tilt2 and I tweaked the crap out of it putting custom roms and radio to fit my taste. Although having the capability was great but my user experience was not all that great. Something was always wrong and the hardware and software wasn't working correctly, so I was constantly tweaking and tell you the truth I got tired.
I was ready to jump ship to Android with Samsung Captivate but as soon as the WP7 was arriving I decided to wait. Boy I am glad that I did, I am happy with my samsung focus. Although it's missing some functions now but I am sure it's on it's way, the stability and the fact that it just works and I do not have to tweak anything makes my life a lot easier. Could not be more happy with OS. At least so far.
My wife has iphone and looked at android and both are not really appealing to me. Android is not all that great even if with all the customization and tweaking.
Just wanted to see what type of user MS is attracting. i suspect the other colum will be quite low, which of course would not be good for microsoft.
I will follow this thread!
A poll until it interesting.
But I warn that any flame, I will not even post anything, I just delete the comment.
One suggestion:
Just vote, please!
I Have been a long time user of wm and recently palm and android, I just got to the point where I wanted a straightforward uncontested smartphone that gives me the info I need on the move, wp7 meets my needs perfectly
I would consider trying out WP7 (even with all its deficiencies) but the ones being offered by AT&T are garbage. Just look at HTC Surround. Was this phone a inside joke by HTC? Slap on a some cheap, useless and bulky speakers on a phone and see how many people would rush to buy one just because it is different. Amazing how a bunch of designers came together and agreed on this model as one of their flagships.
The one phone that does interest me is the 7 Pro. But there is no word on when it will be out on US soil, it has only 8gb internal memory, and by the time the phone does come out it will be too little too late. Looks like I will be on my Tilt 2 for a while.
I was on Symbian, then wm6.5 then Symbian then WP7 with my HD7.
Coming from my Tilt2, which I loved dearly, but spent way too much time trying to tweak. The effortless speed of WP7 is a breath of fresh air.
I voted as an average user because technically this is my first smart phone w/ any type of data plan. I spent @ 10 hours playing with phones and reading forums before picking WP7. Didn't want iOS simply becuase I didn't want what masses already have. Considered Android because of all you can do to it and enjoyned playing with my wifes Aria. However every time I went to ATT I gravitated to the WP7 devices. I really liked the fresh new UE and the HTC Surround. I just like how it felt in my hands over the Focus and personally I think the speakers are neat and rock when compaired to any other "noise" you get from any other device. 100% pleased with my choice.
Average users dont visit xda and most of the other categories listed dont like WP7.

My Focus is FAR superior to my HTC phones that I owned and loved. Didn't think I could do without a hardware keyboard, as I can't type on my wife's iPhone (after hours of trying). I still make a lot of mistakes, but, this phone corrects my typos accurately 99% of the time.
I don't miss the lag and drag of my Tilt2, which I overclocked to 748 mHz. Hopefully this phone won't fall apart like my HTCs.
I've been an Android user since the very beginning. I preordered a G1...and still own it, a MyTouch 3G, and a Vibrant. I was also impressed enough by the HD2 hardware to give WM a shot. Stock WM on the TMOUS HD2 was a mess...but that was nothing that a nice custom rom wasn't able to fix. I still enjoy using my HD2 on occasion. I also own an iTouch...which, of course, runs iOS (beautiful hardware, but mine is best at collecting dust). And, although it's a bit of an afterthought now, I also owned three Blackberries.
I really like Android. Nothing can touch it when it comes to customization. But, the inherent stuttering and occasional lag does get old...even though it's gotten much better in both departments and is now fairly smooth on most new phones. It's also not the prettiest thing in the world, in my opinion (I also think iOS is hidious looking...although nothing is smoother, but WP7 is nipping on its heels in that department).
I've owned my HD7 for nearly a week. I bought it with the full intention of returning it prior to the end of my 14 grace period...unless it totally blew my mind. Well, consider my mind blown. I now believe that it's a keeper. Keeping in mind that WP7 is currently just at v1.0, I believe that MS has done a better job than both Apple and Google. Yes, there are a few features missing....but there's good reason for that...and the upcoming update is very likely to address those deficiencies.
For v1.0, MS focused on the UI, and it shows. My HD7 is incredibly smooth and blazing fast. The UI is intuitive, efficient, beautiful, and fun. The few issues with it are also things that were lacking in both iOS and Android initially...and it took both Apple and Google substantually longer to address them than what it's taken MS. Many people are saying that these things should've been included from the get go. I say that MS has created a masterpiece, and that...as long as the missing features are addressed in a timely manner....whatever they had to do to get the rest right was ok in my book.
MS was down...and all the haters thought that they were out. I never felt that way, but I was skeptical that they were going to be able to deliver something that would truly rival the offerings from Google and Apple. I was wrong....and so were/are all the haters.
I am as unbiased as it gets. I own devices that run all 4 major mobile OS'...and know their strengths, and weaknesses, inside out. I now consider WP7 to be my favorite. MS has laid a foundation that surpasses the foundations that both Google and Apple initially laid. Things are only going to get better from here on out...and I'm excited to see how far MS can take this.
Does this refer to what platform I was JUST on before making the jump to WP7? Because I have owned iPhone, Android, AND Symbian based phones as my past Smartphones. Also, how come Symbian or BlackBerry is not included in the poll? That is a glaring omission....
Also missing is Blackberry.
I came from android but I ticked other as I think that would be the main target for MS most android users love its openness iPhone users are to loyal even though ots hardly changed and old MS users want the buseness features more than the play. As I said I came from android but I always planned to change before I bought my desire so I don't think it counts.
have been a long time htc user first the tilt then the tilt 2. loved my tilt2, got the surround and returned it due to battery life.... never thought id like a samsung device, seeing how my girlfriend went through about five instincts, and four or five various other sprint samsung phones,,, but i must say i love my Samsung Focus...........
Windows Mobile User Tried and True
Ive been a Windows Mobile User since its inception and I have to say Microsoft has out done themselves. Just need to bring on the Business access like remote desktop and ICS. Still have my HP IPaq 1945, Tilt, and Tilt 2. I know own the Samsung Focus. We also need a XDA App for Windows Mobile 7.

Hmm being only 1 of those is a phone and the topic is "Who is buying windows phone 7" key word phone. That narrows it down to which one of the 3 to consider IMO. And since your using Android on your HD2 I would think you should vote as an Android user.
There are ratios everywhere you look. When it came to smartphones and computing in general, I favoured the emphasis of after-market modification in relation to perceived value and availability. This is why I loved Windows, why I'm still hanging on to posting on a limited spread of subforums, when I'm a member of a forum that caters to everything but the kitchen sink.
The irony is that although I have, and only have, a Windows device, the ratio of after-market offerings that offer better control and availability in relation to the value added from the possession of the device is low, lower than it's ever been.

I agree that WM was killed off long before its sell by date, but what you have missed is very important.
WP works, and it works very very well with the things it does, and to be honest for 90% of users that's all they want.
WMs success was also its Achilles heel, its openness let OEMs and Networks have free reign over the OS, they screwed it sideways and inside out and MS took all the blame, by the time good hardware came out, the HD2, too much damage to WM had been done, it would never have been successful at that point.
people condemn WP, but when you look at what they condemn it for its because its NOT like other platforms, not because it isn't any good its self and there is the reason for WP slow uptake, MS is crap when it comes to marketing, has been and always will be ( although the surface advert is very cool!)
I didn't miss the fact that it works, I'm replying to you from the same WP in question. The irony is that the main reason I liked it isn't the reason I remain loving it. Your OEM argument raises the ultimate failure of WM, despite all the rants in the many WP vs Android /iPhone that littered the scene. The final value-add linkages in the OEM/Retail to end user were inconsistent with the other supply chain customer protocols, basically allowing those who weren't accountable for the quality,to control it. Those fools shoulda had their own store from the beginning (to control the OEM-end user outcome)...A fact that raises more ironies: The success of the younger OS's was achieved from studying Microsoft's logistics management.
Kinda wrong, there wasn't much skinning of WM. We only had like 3 years of OEM skins, HTC started with HTC home. We had third party start replacements, but the device specs were do low it would ruined the experience.

I guess the work that SPB did on re skinning WM from the pocketPC days 2003 an possibly earlier was a lot of nonsense then?
and it worked fine, the hardware was more than capable, it wasn't until the development of skinning hit the HTC TouchFlo mark, I think it was around 2007 mark that it was developed, that it started to slow down too much, this was absolutely nothing to do with hardware and everything to do with OEMs and chipset manufactures not supplying drivers for the built in GPUs
Therefore we are not wrong, WM was screwed by others an yet they always took the blame.
Spb wasn't huge or a resource hog in 2003. It was basically a today plugin.
There was two other programs we used to theme our phones like xp and vista, they were today replacements. They ate up RAM though. Like SPB OEMs weren't installing these by default. You had to seek those cab files out.
HTC came with HTC home and the cube and touchflo right after the iPhone, and right before 6.1 or was it 6.1?
That's when OEMs really started with the skins.
The phones were slow as hell back then
WM screwed by others? Joke of the day? HTC skins were welcomed back then because WM was outdated and ugly back then. WM 6 was just a themed up WM 5. Host of other problems that wasn't caused by the "others".

True, I even went so far as contacting HTC the first week after I bought my Trophy, asking what they had lined up for skinning. I also signed the online petition about drivers during the HTC Kaiser days. "Four legs good, two legs better!" (Taken from George Orwell's Animal Farm)

That's when OEMs really started with the skins.

oh So because it wasn't the SAME as androids sense (copied from WM and a "today" plugin as well) or iOS it doesn't count...

because the GPUs were never used because the OEMs and chipset makers (im looking at you QC!) didn't want to pay up for or release the drivers, take a look at the blackstone and much more relevant the Leo, once drivers were obtained it flew like poo off a shovel

WM screwed by others? Joke of the day? HTC skins were welcomed back then because WM was outdated and ugly back then. WM 6 was just a themed up WM 5. Host of other problems that wasn't caused by the "others".

taking the UI out of the equation and bare in mind that back that there wasn't anything better, the OS was as solid as a rock, which is why its still used to this very day, it only became slow and unstable when the OEMs couldn't be bothered to sort out their mess or much more importantly the carriers loaded it up with so much crap that it didn't work, you have to remember that it was up to the OEMs and carriers to deal with the OS AS THEY SAW FIT, MS just gave them the core and access to updates. If the OS was so crap, how was it that the original developers on here were able to rip out the OEM/carrier stuff, combine bits and bobs from other ROMs and make devices run even better?

you quote two reviews that are meaningless, that is a product of a OEM and carrier and no one is arguing that they were not slow. but they were slow because of what the OEMs didn't do and what the carriers did do.
Open a browser and read my full signature. Check my old roms out.
The OS was solid but still ran like crap. No way around that.
The diamond, then Leo was great. However when the Leo showed up it was too late.
We waited years for WM7.

I'm one of those few die-hards who uses WM as my daily driver. You and dazza9075 make some compelling arguments but I must say that WM was doomed by the carriers. The Leo was/is a spectacular device and is probably the best WM phone ever released, but there was one other phone that was lightning quick and that was the LG Fathom. It had the lightest OEM ROM I've ever come across and a 1gig Snapdragon CPU. For being a resistive screen, it is very responsive. The problem is that it came out too late and WM's fate had already been sealed. Nonetheless, it showed what a WM6.5.3 device could do. Those who hated Titanium because you had to scroll up and down are the same people who probably hate Metro. As the late Ricky Nelson crooned "can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself". That's how skinning came to be.

ive been on this site from the moment it opened tho I lost my old account, but I can tell you that it used to run just fine, I still have a Himalaya and a Alpine, my wallaby got wrecked, but the Alpine is an exceptional device, doomed from the start and it never got WM5 but 2003 runs fantastic on it, it only slows down on graphically intensive tasks because of the lack of GPU drivers. the Himalaya got WM5 and ran slightly slower than the Alpine but it was very functional unless you used graphically intensive programs.
Then I personally had the HTC Artemis which on all accounts was a pile of ****e with its crap OMAP CPU, dodgy tracker ball an heavy as a brick weight, its bigger brother the Polaris however suffered like most good HTC devices and was slow but only because the GPU was never used, from that moment on, all HTC devices I had, were good once your ripped out the crap and tweaked it, but all suffered from driver issues until WM dying days.
Why the driver issues? well HTC couldn't be bothered to pay for them and QC never gave them out, I think probably because people would realise like they have done today that actually, most devices run great and the limiting factor is actually the user, not the phone so why would they bother updating! (there is some obvious exceptions to this, especially on Android where the overriding reason to make a device was to hit a cheap price point and to hell with user experience meaning we have devices barely more capable then that of a calculator)
I started with the ppc6600, then 6700, 6800, and so on.
Stripped to the core they ran fine to us. They were perfect for Ballmer too, until we all witness the performance of the og iPhone.

Again, your looking at a custom made device with all the bells working, we never had all the bells working because no one would pay QC and co for the drivers, but yes your right that what apple did, make a custom made device built around a specific set of criteria controlled by them, created an all around pleasing device, which isn't far off what MS has done now with WP, and android has almost followed MS WM model Sooo...

As I stated before, WM ran on some pretty slow CPU's for the most part. A 628 mHz device was considered blazing fast. Consider this, the Treo Pro, regarded as the best of the keyboard bunch, ran on a 416 meg processor. No wonder the HD2 is so highly regarded. I'm usually the first to say that specs don't matter if the OS works properly. But in WM's case, it matters. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

I still have my Blackjack II with its 624 MHz goodness. For the time it was boss, but with its untouched WM6.5 by today standards it's sluggish like hell and a real nightmare to use. The HD2 with the same software runs relatively nice tho, slap a skin on it and it could be a Gingerbread phone or something...

The BJII is 6.5 Standard while the HD2 is 6.5 Professional. Non-touchscreens were not very user-friendly because of the endless sub-menus that you had to scroll through. Great phone though. The fact you still use it is a testament to WM's awesomeness. I wonder how many of today's current phones will still be in use 6 or 7 years from now?

Well I don't really use it anymore but from time to time I turn it on just for fun, so many memories...I still have my Htc Cruise as well, the touchscreen stopped working actually, but I can still move around a bit with the good old wheel. These phones have been a part of my life, I'll never get rid of them

My LEO would have been had it not fallen to bits! but I believe your right, they don't make them like they used to, I do however still use my blackstone actively, capacitive screens are good for many things but crap for others an thus the blackstone is my device of choice if im outside in the rain plotting nav points in memory map.

You know what I don't get? This new-found love affair with inking abilities. The Galaxy Note is marketed as the second coming because you can scribble notes with, get this, a STYLUS! Whew! Gotta get up pretty early in the morning to outfox them Koreans.

Lol...well it's no big deal but actually back in the day the stylus was needed in order to fiddle with the tiny thingies of the UI, now it's more like a gimmick, writing down notes with a stylus when you can type on huge on screen buttons doesn't make much sense to me...
