Choosing an SPL (Orange Handset) - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

With all these different SPLs available, I wonder if someone can explain why users with Orange / other network branded handsets cannot simply install an un-modified HTC original 1.37 SPL? What is the benefit of using one of the hacked SPLs if an original HTC SPL were available, and the user only wanted to install the HTC original 1.93 update

HardSPL is only needed if you want to use custom ROM's. If you just use stock ROM (branded if that's the case), there is no need for any HardSPL.

But what if I would like to put the stock HTC ROM onto my Orange handset.
It is CID-locked. I would prefer to install a stock HTC SPL rather than a custom one so I can then install the stock HTC ROM.
The question is, if I were to install the stock HTC 1.93 SPL, could i then install the original HTC 1.93 ROM update on my Orange handset?

Yes, that should be possible.
Just use first HardSPL to install HTC stock ROM, then install original SPL.

I would of thought that you need to super CID your orange locked device in order to install any ROM not released by Orange - due to the CID lock
Olipro 1.4 work well for Orange devices

HTC Touch Diamond On Orange?

Hi,
I have recently purchased a HTC Touch Diamond. I purchased it from Orange UK on contract
My current ROM version is: 1.37.405.1 WWE
Ive tried downloading the ROM from HTC website it says device not supported
Can somebody tell me how to update to latest 1.93 ROM. Anyone here that has bought the phone from Orange UK
PLZ HELP!!
You need to install hardspl in order to install any other ROM than the carrier's stock ROM.
I have a Diamond on Orange UK contract which came with the same ROM.
You need to install HardSPL before flashing any ROM other than an Official Orange UK ROM. I tried the official HTC ROM however I much prefer Dutty's ROM as it yielded better performance. I currently use Dutty's 1.5 and will probably flash 1.7 when it is released this weekend.
How about teh offical 1.93 ROM will I be able to flash that
Can you give me the exact method you used also the hard spl version etc signed or unsigned
As far as I am aware Orange UK haven't released an updated Orange branded ROM yet for the diamond, so the only way to flash a new ROM, whether official HTC 1.93 or other 'cooked' rom based on the official rom is to flash HardSPL 1.4 first (unsigned). If you are not comfortable doing that (there are plenty of threads on the subject), then you will have to wait until Orange UK launch their version of an official HTC rom, probably complete with Orange branded TouchFlo 3D - yuck!.
I used the information in the WIKI useful which contains a link to the following site which gives step by step instructions -
http://www.modmydiamond.info/
You can download the latest European ROM from
http://rapidshare.com/files/1376163...igned_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe
Is this really the case, only way to flash is via hardspl?
I only ask because I have flashed mine twice now with official roms just by extracting the file and running it - worked both times without problems.
Tad confuddled...

Yes, it is. But is not a hard thing to do. Use Hardspl 1.40 (unsigned) and then flash the rom you want

No, you do not always need HardSPL, this depending if your device is CID Locked or unlocked.
Carrier Id or CID - commonly used in the form `CID-Unlocking`. If you purchase your phone (example) from Orange UK (Orange is the 'carrier'), your phone will only accept Orange ROMs or official ROMs (the carrier's ROMs or HTC). If you want to flash ROMs from other carrier, you'll need to CID-unlock your phone, so that your phone will accept other ROMs. This is where HardSPL comes in to play.

Gotcha.. Mine is SIM-Free so that will explain why it can flash without hard-spl then, at least the official roms as I've not tried another yet.
Will give it a try. Will contact orange first or go to their repair centres.
I have noticed the device does get hot with original orange stock rom.
I would recommend if admin makes this thread a sticky will help alot of people out
Newbie question and probably an obvious answer. I have installed HardSPL and upgraded my Radio with no problems. I am a wee bit nervous about a full rom upgrade. What will happen to my orange settings (voicemail etc) and if i were to restore my info and programs using spb backup will that restore everything

@Windoze9t8
So just to confirm, IF I was able to get the official HTC WWE ROM from their website i.e. "RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05", are you saying that CID Locked Orange UK HTC Diamonds would still be able to update using this *without* having to do the HardSPL update first?
Alternatively.. IF the HardSPL is required.. would I need the HardSPL 1.40 (unsigned) as mentioned above.. or should I be looking to use HardSPL 1.38 Signed as the Official Rom has "signed" in the filename?
Sorry for (possibly repeated) questions - I just want to be sure, and no one has replied as concisely as you before
Ok.. please ignore my previous post.
My Orange UK Touch Diamond would not update with that latest HTC Rom without installing HardSPL 1.93 Unsigned.
I couldn't find 1.40 unsigned anywhere, and the ROM *wouldn't* update with any other version (1.37unsigned, 1.38 signed or 1.24mfg)
Using DiamondCustomRUU that came with 1.37, I copied the 1.93 HardSPL into its folder (this updated the SPL via a hard reset), and then used the RUU that came with the Official Update.

Installation question for (unsigned?) roms

Hello all,
I looked at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413910
If I want to perform Hard Rest (In order to return to clean default ROM 1.37) and then upgrade to ROM 1.93 (WWE_1.93).
Do I only have to download "RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1.exe" from rapidshare, backup, charge device, connect cable and active "RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1.exe"?
Or do I have to do something else before (i.e. install hard spl...)?
because it is not "signed" rom from HTC site?
Thanks,
You need to use a Hard SPL if you do not have a original HTC Diamond and want to flash a new ROM.
if you have a HTC Diamond (not CID locked, either by region or carrier) then you can flash official ROMs from HTC.
If it is locked, then you need to flash a Hard SPL, either a developers edition (which means you can flash any ROM) or a signed SPL, which means the ROMs you flash must be signed by the Diamond Team here to say it is ok.
Personally i have the Developer edition SPL, so i can Flash any ROM.
Cheers,
I do I know if I have CID locked ROM

CID locked, either by region or carrier?
Where did you buy ur phone from?
For example i bought mine from Expansys, just as a handset, so it is not Carrier locked. so therefore i can flash offical HTC ROMs.
But to flash a 'custom' ROM, or a T-Mobile ROM for example, i'd have to flash Hard SPL (which i have )
I bought it from private store...

Hi Guys,
I want to try Dutty Roms and alos official HTC Rom but before tht I have some questions.

3. if I load back those original SPLs from this site can I send my phone for waranty
Hi,
1. you will need either supercid or patch the package by changing cid.
2. SPL is always the original one from HTC, and is normally included in the
original HTC package you can download for your phone.
3. Yes, you can as long it is a original HTC one.

[Q] RUU Questions

I recently rooted my phone and then for various reasons, decided I wanted to go back to a stock rom.
I did this by downloading a ruu exe from the below page
http://iloveabath.co.uk/index.php?dir=RUUs
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.36.405.8_R_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_187331_signed.exe
1) Is this file the original gingerbread update from HTC? ,
2) Before I rooted my phone, I was branded to vodafone, other than the boot screen and various bundled apps, are there any differences to the vodafone ruu for example (different radio perhaps)
Yes that RUU is genuine HTC.
There maybe small differences between a Vodofone & a HTC stock ROM. You would be perfectly fine installing the HTC version.

[Q] How to fully reset desire?

Hi, how can i fully reset my htc desire? As like I have just taken it out of the box? I currently have it rooted and on a custom rom.
Flash a orginal RUU for your Device
Ok, but how do i know wich one to install?
Depends on what rom was on it, when you bought it..
If there were branding, and you want the branding back, you will need to flash a ruu for your carrier, but if you just want the original system back just flash the wwe 2.29.405 ruu.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
or google - how to unroot htc desire.... come on man just read up on it
The roms can be found on http://shipped-roms.com
