hey i have question, now i have an unlimited text plan with t-mobile, right now im using OZ Aim (which i believe counts as text messages, not sure im new to this). anyway OZ Aim sucks, it lags ALOT. i used parlingo for a bit before i couldnt anymore (since i didnt have the data plan). is there a way i can use slick or parlingo to make it count as mms? or will i have to stick to OZ messenger.
If I'm not mistaken...(And I could be) I thought I read there is one of the 3rd party applications that allows you to use sms for IM's or data. I would do a search "Instant Messagers" and read through the threads. No not OZ but another. Maybe someone else can reassure you this is correct.
No Palringo will only operate if you have a data plan because it does not consume your SMS unlike OZ messanger which consumes your SMS.
i think has askin for a im client that uses sms other than oz instant messenger.. and i dnt kno of any
For some reason I cannot send a MMS (picture) to my wifes iPhone. I told her to get a different freakin phone because my phone hates hers but she won't listen. So I am left with trying to figure out if I can talk my phone into doing what I ask anyways. Anyone else have this problem? I have the 2.15.00.07.28 radion, should I upgrade to the newer one? Need a fix...
I am able to send mms to BlackBerrys
*228 doesn't work either
Running redemption Rom 2.0.3
Try putting a written message in there as well.
Handcent has a problem with iPhones, the stock app will work but like mentioned, there has to be some txt. Even ... or something and it will go through.

I know the Iphone 3g did not allow pic texts. Not sure about the 4g
its not the iphone... i believe it is a problem between att and verizon. the mms from verizon has a tough time getting through to att...
the iphone users seem to be frustrated by this as well...
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=794375
in my experience, best way around this (besides making your girl switch to android) is to just text your girlfriends iPhone from your gmail, to [email protected] or whatever the att email address is... that or just comminicate via email only. email will be killing mms eventually anyways... why anyone still uses mms is beyond me. "you have a damn smart phone, switch to email already !"
who knows how many dirty pics from dirty girlfriends have been missed!?!? :/
so i moved up to RC2 of cm6, i used to have this issue with my first mytouch orginal on CM but whenever i send MMS the person just gets a black X.... ive read that it may be an APN settings issue.......??
anyone know how to fix this, and or what the correct US tmobile settings are....id love to send pictures to family, espically since im stuck in another state in a blizzard ) love to show the fam
HELP!!!
edit*** found default apn setting config and my phone seems to be set correct....... any ideas?
Aside from the APN settings I can't think of anything. Maybe call TMO and make sure nothing is screwed up on your account. I've heard that (mostly for data) sometimes your account or some aspect of it has to be reset. I've never personally had that done in 5 years but sh!t happens. The MMS on this phone is crap anyway, my 8100 could send bigger pictures lol. So losing MMS isn't much of a loss IMO.
yea it is sh!tt& but hey what can you do, what i dont understand is i can recive pictures just fine and all but i cant seem to send em...
Have you tried sending one to yourself? Also, are you on wifi? I know that should be old news but the update tmobile sent out a long time ago didn't fix that issue for everyone.
no i havent tryed that.... and i never recived any tmo updates, its a new device about 2 weeks old and was 100% wiped when i put cm on... i always do a clean wipe
and no im not on wifi... purely hsdpa
**edit** sent and recived on my end just fine, but everyone else still reports a red x when sent.... i know alot of em are on verizon.... could this be a carrier conflict seeing as im not on offical supported software??
have you tried using a different messaging app? i had that problem with my g1 and when i tried sending a message with handcent sms it worked just fine
Firstly, I would like to pay respect to the developers who mapped the hardware button for the camera app. Respect to you all. Starting this thread hoping those same geniuses would be able to solve this problem. Android generally has this crazy notion that if i want to send a long sms, it will be cheaper for me to send an mms. I get like unlimited sms but i gotta pay for each mms i send so everytime i need to send a long sms, it costs me money. plus, if the recipient does not have mms configured, its money lost from my side and nothing recieved on theirs. so is there any way to stop the native messaging app from converting sms to mms after 3 sms length.
currently using Handcent sms for long sms but its a pain and it crashes often.

uhm.
why would a long sms convert to a mms?
I've never seen this happen.
Have no idea why this happens. if i use "MyPhoneExplorer" to compose sms on pc and send them, this problem doesn't occur. tonight, i decided to send a long sms directly from my phone and i saw that it converts to mms. so decided to google it and it appears Xplay isn't the only phone with this problem. a quick browse on google shows that loads of device owners are frustrated by this. check it out on your stock device as mine is stock also. just bootloader unlocked and rooted ;-)
Yea, mine does the same, bootloader locked, and does it un-rooted and rooted.
Very annoying. You'd think sony ericsson would have made this an option.
But i did have this issue with 2.1 on my motorola milestone.
mine just gives me a notification saying it will send 2 SMS, it even counts down hoow many characters i have left until it adds another SMS to it (only when below 20 character left)

Its after lyk 4 or 5 sms's it turns it into a mms, i can confirm every android phone i have had (hero, desire, desire hd and xplay) have all done this, i resorted to sending half an sms then writing the other half n sending that lol

I just tested mine to 5 sms. All it does it countdown how many characters I have left for each sms, and then adds another sms.
Converting into an mms sounds like a cheap trick to make more money by some carriers.
I am with Vodafone Uk and they don't use this trick yet it seems, although thanks for this post because now I will be keeping an eye out for this.
Still don't see it as much of a problem though. Just send one sms at a time?
Happens often here (when going into 4th txt), I just break messages down not to get stung with a MMS charge.
It can be annoying as when breaking the message down you can get a reply from the other side before they have read the full message, which can cause confusion.

Try expressing your feelings to your GF one message at a time...
Have you tried writing the whole message, copy/cutting half of it, sending half then quickly pasting and sending the rest? Or email/call the person lol? It might just be me but my texts are pretty small.

Well the solution is to go with a network provider that doesn't adopt this cheap tactic.
Alternatively, telephone them and threaten legal action with demand for all lost money sent on mms.
Changing an sms into an mms can not possibly be legal.

It's not something the network controls, its a Android thing.
I guess it make sense to people in the states and how most contracts work over there.
It is annoying though.

Why does my Xperia Play not do it then?
What makes mine different, other than the network providers own software?
It has to be a network provider setup?
I can't imagine an android stock rom ever having this feature.

Your welcome for the camera XD It can now be found if you click the little android market logo at the top of the xperia play game menu when you slide the keypad out.
Back on-topic, I just successfully send a 6 sms long message, on 2.3.2 and with Three

Ok just to make a few things clear. I noticed this problem on my Xplay which has a stock rom 2.3.2 and i got it sim-free. i have tried it with several different vendors, like vodafone UK, 3, O2 and international vendors in Pakistan as well. Also, i've tried composing a message with no sim in it and still have the same problem. So its a problem with the OS and not network related. Saw the same problem on a stock Galaxy S Sim-free.
So Devs, please find a solution to this if possible.

how can it be network providers?
I got my handset SIM free (generic UK rom) and have used a few networks. it does it on all of them. and reports of it being the same on other Android devices.
It is nothing to do with networks, it Android OS.
Weird issue on m5. When I try to txt someone using handcent or go SMS I type there name in the new message part and nothing happens. I have to type the number of the context I wanna text for their full phone number to pop up. Anyone else seeing this happen or know what I could do??? It's really annoying
Never heard of the issue. Try another SMS app like GoSms

Hey, I was considering getting gnex for my mom for mothers day, (on sprint) but saw some people saying mms didn't work. Is that just cuz you need a 3rd party app since there's no bloat?
Much thanks to anyone who can answer. Thank you.

MMS definitely works lol. Do you seriously think Sprint would sell a $200 smartphone that didn't have working MMS? I don't doubt that some ppl may have issues but they didn't just launch the device without the feature on purpose.
And this has nothing to do with OP's issue.
