texting problem on all ROMS and messaging apps - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Weird issue on m5. When I try to txt someone using handcent or go SMS I type there name in the new message part and nothing happens. I have to type the number of the context I wanna text for their full phone number to pop up. Anyone else seeing this happen or know what I could do??? It's really annoying

Never heard of the issue. Try another SMS app like GoSms

Hey, I was considering getting gnex for my mom for mothers day, (on sprint) but saw some people saying mms didn't work. Is that just cuz you need a 3rd party app since there's no bloat?
Much thanks to anyone who can answer. Thank you.

MMS definitely works lol. Do you seriously think Sprint would sell a $200 smartphone that didn't have working MMS? I don't doubt that some ppl may have issues but they didn't just launch the device without the feature on purpose.
And this has nothing to do with OP's issue.

[Q] About SMS on CM6

I've searched far and wide, and can't seem to find anything on the issue I'm having. Or maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but it's been about a straight hour know that I'm looking and can't find the answer I'm looking for.
My problem: When I send a SMS as ONE text it sends perfectly, but once the text reaches 2 texts and I try to send it does not work, it says "sending..." for literally 10 minutes then I get a notification saying the message cannot be sent. I have no idea what I could possibly do to fix this. Someone help, please?
My suggestion is picking up the phone and calling them.. clearly you have alot to say.
(its late... you'll have to excuse me... lol)

Yeah, I was expecting something like that from this time at night..lol. I did laugh.
I think the problem is that the message you're trying to send is over 160 characters, and since SMS messages can't be over 160 characters, and the messages app isn't breaking the text into two texts, it can't send and just times out. Try using chompSMS or Handcent as an alternative, as they have auto-160 breakout features.
A known problem with that Rom. Can't send texts over 160. Why I tries fresh Rom. Can't stand that and don't like the sms in the market. If I can find out to put froyo sms on the Rom id switch back to pick. Bit that's a downfall to me personally.

I really must agree with you. The rom is awesome, but that's a major issue for me. ah well, guess I'll go back to Virus or someone else.

I should spell check before sending. Amyways, on cm6 my sms never had the letter counter so could never tell if over or not. I thought it was the kernel I installed. Then went to the Rom topic and people had the same problem. If I can find out how to pull the sms apk from froyo and push it to cm6 is say I have a perfect Rom.

Yeah, this is a real issue. CM6 was originally for GSM networks, which don't have problems with extra large SMS messages. They haven't tweaked the AOSP messenger for CDMA networks yet (by splitting messages).
Here's the issue on the bug tracker. http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=1942
Be sure to go there, reply and star the issue.

That makes perfect sense. That's pretty game-breaking if you ask me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds that to be a huge problem. I'll definitely go to the link you provided and take it from there. Thanks everyone for your responses.

Can't MMS to iPhone??WTF??

For some reason I cannot send a MMS (picture) to my wifes iPhone. I told her to get a different freakin phone because my phone hates hers but she won't listen. So I am left with trying to figure out if I can talk my phone into doing what I ask anyways. Anyone else have this problem? I have the 2.15.00.07.28 radion, should I upgrade to the newer one? Need a fix...
I am able to send mms to BlackBerrys
*228 doesn't work either
Running redemption Rom 2.0.3
Try putting a written message in there as well.
Handcent has a problem with iPhones, the stock app will work but like mentioned, there has to be some txt. Even ... or something and it will go through.

I know the Iphone 3g did not allow pic texts. Not sure about the 4g
its not the iphone... i believe it is a problem between att and verizon. the mms from verizon has a tough time getting through to att...
the iphone users seem to be frustrated by this as well...
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=794375
in my experience, best way around this (besides making your girl switch to android) is to just text your girlfriends iPhone from your gmail, to [email protected] or whatever the att email address is... that or just comminicate via email only. email will be killing mms eventually anyways... why anyone still uses mms is beyond me. "you have a damn smart phone, switch to email already !"
who knows how many dirty pics from dirty girlfriends have been missed!?!? :/

Double Texts

K this is something thats really bugging the crap out of me and I'm trying to see if I'm the only one that has this issue
I send one text message and the recipient might get it once or twice. It happens randomly and to different people on different networks. I'm using chomp sms and I've tried handcent along with the stock messaging app and it still continues to do it. It's really annoying, I don't want to go back to the itrash4 because of this...any help would be nice.
edit;
my mytouch 4g was doing this too along w/ the nexus one when I had T-Mobile. I thought it was Tmob's network that was causing this problem; hence the switch to Verizon but yet it still continues. I know I'm not doing anything wrong and it happens at my office and anywhere I'm texting from...I'm starting to think this might be an issue with HTC since it even happen with my thunderbolt, and my cousins thunderbolt...is anyone else experiencing this or am I just out of luck?
........anyone?
Try calling *228 option 1 let turn on and call again do option 2 let restart, if doesn't work look at messages settings

Are you getting double incoming messages too?
Do you possibly have duplicate contacts or something to that effect? Maybe certain contacts are in more than one contact category or Google/Phone both and the messages are being sent to both contacts or something really wacky like that?

nope, i just get one message but when i send it, it can go one time or a few..i saw my messages on my girlfriends iphone and it shows me sending "ok" 3 times when on my phone it shows i sent it one time -_-
My contacts are strictly off Google. Now that you mention it...maybe it does have to do with Google? I'll try switching someones contact onto my phone and send messages that way instead of having it off Google and see what that does. Thanks for the help, I'll report back
...still doing it after I changed my contact to my sim
I think I'm going to return it for the iPhone...this ****s a joke

Blurry Picture Messages (MMS)

Here we go again.. I always have this issue. First with the Nexus One now with the Galaxy Nexus. In the past I've went into the STOCK messenger app and changed the CUSTOMER USER AGENT to spoof it as a BLACKBERRY. On ICS, I do not have that option and I tried playing around with the APN by copying it from a G2X and still no love.
I'm on TZONES using EPC.TMOBILE.COm if that helps any.
I'm also having this issue. Are we the only ones?

A lot of people are. Apparently its tmobiles end.
From the research I've done it seems that the problem is that Tmobile doesn't recognize our devices, and so it defaults to a smaller mms size for us. From what I've read the solution is to modify the mms.apk to spoof the user agent string. I've been trying to do it, but have not been successful in doing so. Does anyone know how to change the user agent string in the mms.apk?
If someone finds a fix.. Please Share. Fn annoying

Seriously! if a chick post a picture of her face and it's blurry... aww hell naahhh! lol
Ditto. Very annoying. Experiencing the same problem with T-Mobile USA.
Sounds like a passive-aggressive way for TMo to steer you to a branded phone...
im hating this as well i can send pictures but when i receive one it comes out small and blurry.

Galaxy Nexus can't receive MMS from iPhones

I'm on a stock CDMA Galaxy Nexus with Telus (Canada).
I can't receive MMS (specificially pictures) from any of my friends with iPhones. I can receive them from my friend that has a Galaxy Nexus as well, but not iPhones.
Doesn't make a difference if it's an image and text or if it's just the image.
Anybody have any ideas? I've done a bit of googling but haven't seemed to find any solutions.
obviosly because the sender it's an iphone.....
i never sent (nor received as my memory work) an mms so could you ask your friend to change the type of the image(like type (png->jpg), less heavy in terms of KBs and dimensio)?

My GF have a iPhlopne (whatever ), and we have no problems with exchanging pictures through MMS. Can your friend recieve the MMS's from your iPhlopne (whatever) friends?
Did you reset your default APNs?
Settings-More-Mobile Networks-Access Point Names-Restore to default.
Had issues with MMS before and this solved it.
Tried resetting the APN, didn't do the trick
I can send them images but nothing happens when they send them to me no notification or anything

Hello!
Registered just so I could possibly help you in your situation.
Did you have an iPhone before you got your Nexus?
If you did, I may have a solution to your problem.
I had the same problem after I got my Nexus. iMessage was the culprit. If you didn't deactivate it properly - other people with iPhones - that had you as a contact still thinks your number is associated with an iPhone. Apple must keep this internally within their servers (just a thought).
This will happen if you PORTED your number to your new phone OR kept the same number when you went to the Nexus.
Anyhow, it's a simple fix - at least for me it was.

What's the fix? I have the same problem as the original poster and I had an iPhone previous to my Samsung Galaxy S2. I cannot receive MMS from any of my iPhone using friends. How do you deactivate iMessage?
now that you mention this, i have this problem as well!!!
Many of my iphone users claim they send something via MMS and nothing is received. We then use email.
You may be on to something here

Download handcent sms from the market and set it as the default MMS app then go to stock messaging app and disable notifications and you should be good to go...
Just to update as I see this has been bumped - I called my carrier and they were able to fix the issue.
No idea what they did but they just had me do a battery pull, sent me a couple images to test it and it worked fine.
