hi, if I overwrite my current rom (B&b), I have the risk to lock the device again?
I would like to install a new rom but I'm afraid to lock the device.
which version you recommend me?
thx.
What is for you "Lock the device"?
Do you mean CID lock?
Normally you don't loose your CID unlock if done it once. But you can allways Run USPL again.
If you mean SIM lock, i think you won't have any problem with that. Once unlocked allways unlocked.
Cheers
I mean CID Lock, thanks for your response!.

Well, i tryied to see what information i retrieve with the french rom of qtek 9100 executable, u know, the screen in wich u can get info about the device language, image versiion and model make. Followed the standard procedure , CID unlocked, backed up the rom, no need to sim unlock cbecause it was no locked. Here comes the weird part: the screen that was supposed to return the info (where u still can quit),didn't return any info, it was like upgrading nothing to nothing. It's a g3 and i did the normal way to CID unlock it. now whehn i reboot the phone, the SPL remained the same (1.01), but the IPL has changed from 1.01 to IPL 1.01.0000. Why those four zeros?...neve knew.Anyway i didn't installed any rom , because of no info on that screen...was afraid not to damage my device . If i want to install a new rom do i have to CID unlock again, even if i didn't installed any?
A quick (probably simple) question. I have a CID unlocked Orbit, thanks to imei-check. Does this mean I don't need to use the USPL software now to flash handset or must I still do this first?
Thank you for your time.

If you want update Rom NBH format still need Run USPL again..!
Although it may seem redundant, I would run the USPL before loading any of the roms found on this board as a fail safe. I also have an unlock file from IMEI check and I only use that to load non-modified OEM roms like HTC/O2/Dopod etc. Also remember that you have to run the IMEI check or the USPL EVERY time you change roms. Unlocking once will only serve to load a single rom. So save the unlock utility and the IMEI code file they gave you in a file for quick access if you plan on playing the experimentation game. Also, look through the posts there was a thread on how to unbrick your IMEI-unlocked phone no matter what by doing a trick and a HEX edit involving the software you use to CID unlock your phone.
imei-check vs. USPL
there is following difference with imei-check and uspl:
imei-check recalculates and modifies cid area on your device, uspl doesn't.
with uspl, cid area and model id are ignored and not checked.
this enables to perform upgrade of any rom.
rom has to be properly signed though, if you do nbh upgrade with regular upgrade utility.
if you use pdocwrite method, then it is wise to have uspl installed before you write to doc (same for nbh upgrade. always have uspl installed first). otherwise in case of faulty upgrade it will be quite difficult to recover the device.
keep in mind, with next full rom upgrade (say factory rom upgrade, spl will be overwritten). this means you need to run uspl again, before performing upgrade.

@fdp24,
nice to see you alive and kickin`!
Say, does this mean I could flash the wm6 rom from the hermes (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305940 )
into my uspl unlocked hero ?
tried it with the implemented installer without success!
greetz
Please answer me this then. Just to see if I have it right.
I have my Orbit unlocked by imei-check. I now have Bepe's WM6 installed and running great with absolutely no problems what-so-ever. Since I have unlocked my phone and flashed a new ROM onto it, do I now need to re-unlock my phone if I intend to change the ROM in the future? (Does flashing Bepe's ROM reset the CID-lock?)
imei-check does permanent cid unlock. you don't need to re-unlock device again.
- some roms will not install on device, because they have different model id.
- uspl is a solution for this. with uspl installed, model id is not checked.
- if you use pdocwrite method, then you are writing directly to doc, and don't have to bother with cid and model id. however, if something will go wrong with this method, it could be not very easy to recover cid locked device. optimal in this case to have device with uspl installed, because you will not be dependent on cid and model id.
- wm6. most of cooked roms represents just an os. during upgrade, ipl and spl parts remains intact during upgrade. wich means with uspl installed, after os upgrade you don't need to install uspl again. spl version is 1.11.0000 when uspl is installed on device.
- regular factory upgrade. all parts are upgraded (ipl, spl, gsm, splash, os). uspl will be overwritten. for future upgrades you need to install uspl again.

Just curious, I have justs updated my Rom, and radio. I have a HTC branded rom, its a rom made by a member here. Just wondering if my phone would happen to be unlocked after this. I have a 8525 cingular, and I want to use it for Tmobile, so if it hasnt unlocked what program can i use to unlock it. Thanks
No it's still locked but you are SuperCID.
To unlock it you need to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
how do i know if my phone is unlocked? other than actually putting in another sim card
Testing different sims is the only way to see if your unlocked. And I'm not sure that your even superCID...What did your do to be it?
never mind, i tested a t mobile sim, its not unlocked. Whats superCID, and does that have anythin to do with unlocking the SIM.
usaully there done together but don't have to be. here's a thread and many post about both:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
I'm not sure why someone thinks you are SuperCID. It really doesn't matter much anymore if you CID unlock the phone (make it SuperCID) or not. If you have no reason to make it SuperCID, I guess I wouldn't. I have read (although never experienced) that some warranties have been voided that way. You can optionally select to unlock the CID when you run the unlocker.
(If the person who thought you were SuperCID based that on the fact that you flashed a new carrier's ROM, you can do that without CID unlocking. The CustomRUU updater bypasses the CID check now.)
Can someone please tell me if there is a fool proof way of telling what the current CID status is for a device (my diamond) as i am looking to try a non orange UK rom.
If this is a duplication, i apologise, time is of the essence.
cheers for your help in advance
The easiest way is to just flash a custom ROM on it. If it refuses to do so, it's CID locked and you'll need to flash HardSPL first
arh...
but will it wipe whats currently there... and so be a pain in the backside to get back up and running again?
if you flash any rom i.e even non cooked - it will still erase the OS
Please help. When I bought my Diamond, the Bootloader displayed the "Security Unlocked" message, after I flashed Olinex 1.40 HardSpl, it dissapeard. Is my phone locked now? I tried to put back the same HardSpl that was before and nothing. Please Help.
Thanks.
Azreil.
if it already had a tricolor bootloader and sayed sc unlocked andd now sec unlock is gone its not that big problem as sec lock != sim lock or what ffor u need sec unlock ??
I was just asking becouse I didn`t know what happens when the Secure Unlock message is not displayed.
I think you have a "DEMO" diamond. That already comes security unlocked.
Some new blackstones do come security unlocked as they were the first versions.
Well I dont know if I am right or wrong.
How can I find out if it is a DEMO Diamond? The phone was bought from Vodafone and unlocked. Shouldn`t the IMEI be different from a regullar Diamond?
Can you explain a bit. I am really not understanding what you mean.
1 When you bought it did it say security unlocked on bootloader screen? did you buy it new from vodafone or you bought it from some where else?
2. what have you done so far with it?!
Sorry for confusion I am trying to help.
I bought the phone from a friend, and he bought it from a Vodafone shop. He got it locked and had the phone unlocked by a phone service, when i got it from him the bootloader displayed the "security unlocked" message and after I installed olinex 1.40 hardspl, I wanted an unsigned version and everyone recommended this one, the message was gone.
I guess then it was never really security unlocked, but the bootloader was just patched.
