Looking for some help to fix a priority issue when using Widows Live. When i sync with my hotmail account, it automatically creates a GPRS connection even though there is an active Wifi connection, is it possible to change this, as Wifi does not generate any data costs, but using my carriers GPRS connection does. A point of note, this did not occur when using WM5, but has occured using WM6 and WM6.1. Not sure if it relates to the newer operating system, or a newer build of Windows Live. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks.
This doesn't occur on the original Hermes WM6 rom. Ive also experienced this issue...
Does your ROM have the HTC Connection Wizard installed? If so, did it setup your GPRS settings for your Cellular service?
What I found is that the HTC Connection Wizard messes with the priority.
What I suggest is backing up your device using SPB Backup or Sprite..
Next, do a Hard Reset
After the Hard Reset, make sure HTC Connection Wizard doesn't run...
Afterwards, setup your GPRS Settings manually.
Now see if your Wifi and GPRS priorities work as you expect it...
If so, you'll have to setup your device again (install software and stuff). If it doesn't work, just restore your backup and you're back where you started.
Good luck
Hey Joel, thanks for the suggestion....I tried it out but still have the same issue. I welcome other suggestions, or work arounds. thanks!
A workaround is to use modaco nodata (do a quick google search for it) which allows you to disable any gprs connections so it will be forced to use wifi, it just uses a toggle box so you can easily re-enable gprs afterwards. I use it with gprs disabled apart from when I really need to use it.
awesome app
not quite what I was looking for, but it does what I need perfectly. Thanks

Upgraded from Xda II to Xda IIs end January and initially WLAN worked fine, but no GPRS. Went though process of creating GPRS connection (with O2 Support) and now cannot get IE to connect through WLAN. It always tries GPRS! Has anyone experienced this and/or got a solution?
Mike,
You will need to give us some more info on your settings.
If its an O2 unit with original firmwware if you back stuff up try a hard reset to get default settings back and ensure GPRS works then add the WLAN.
I live in Caldecote just outside Cambridge if you get really stuck we could meet up and you can try and copy my settings and check your SIM has GPRS enabled using mine that kind of thing.
Cheers Wayne
Many thanks Wayne. I'll do a backup and hard reset (with trembling hand no doubt) and see where I get to before getting back to you. Many thanks for the offer of help. I'm in Barrington, so it's not a million miles to come to talk if necessary.
you might already know this mike and if so at least it may be of help to others.
if your gprs connection is active then it doesn't matter wheather the wireless lan is on or off, internet explorer will always connect to gprs.
switch off gprs by clickiing on (in my case O2) your service providers icon and if "mobile web" is highlighted then click on it to switch it off.
Thanks, but I'd tried that and more. Eventually, as Wayne suggested, I did the dreaded hard reset and restored everything from scratch. I now have WLan working on my home LAN, but as I have such lousy GSM/GPRS coverage here I haven't yet tried to see if the GPRS side is now going to work. That's for tomorrow and where I started in the first place when I found it wasn't working! :?
Thank everyone for the suggestions.
Hello Mike
I had the same problem, and after thorough search I found the solution:
start->settings->connections -> advanced
select networks : both drop-down boxes are set to
"my work network"
This prevents the automatic gprs connections.
If you want gprs you can use the wireless manager
(start->programs->wireless manager)
and there tap the red gprs icon
In other words RTFM....

Hi guys,
I have a weird problem since a couple of days.
In fact, when I try to use the GPRS, the connection is established however if I try to active sync I get an error message saying that the server can't be reach and if I try in PocketIE to access a website it says also that the server can't be reach.
I check and my connection is up and running. Especially, it was working before, and I didn't change my configuration.
I am using T-Mobile UK Network with T-Mobile Web'n'Walk plan for unlimited data.
Does anybody has any idea?
For your information, I am running the PDAViet Crossbow ROM.
Thank you very much for your help.
Julien
A hard reset had solve the problems. I just hope it doesn't happen again
I'm sure I've seen a setting that says something like "allow calls when data connected". I'm sure I used to be able to make calls when I had a 3g/hsdpa connection but since upgrading from Black 2.5 to 3.0, it doesn't seem to allow this any more.
Does anyone recognise the setting that I've inaccurately defined?
Unless I'm mistaken, when on a 3G network voice and data co-exist automatically.
What you may be referring to is a ck box when setting up AS to allow an internet connection to for MMS and VOIP.
Yep, That happens to me. I am just waiting for JJ's new rom and see what happens. 2.5 was working great for me but 3.0 amd 3.0.1 both have Bletooth issues and loose Data connections
Thanks to Mr DSL..check this out for all your cingy Needs
New Cingular Data Install cabs for your WM6 ROM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to the obvious confusion with data settings and Cingular users I want to get this taken care of. I know theres a .cab floating around for this already but its already know that it doesn't store the username/password sometimes and it also seems to have a problem with some users keeping a exchange connection for whatever reason.
This has went much better then I thought and I would like to give a big thanks shogunmark and wpbear for making the .cabs for all of us to use. Much appreciated
I have at least loaded each of these up on a fresh WM6 ROM and they all seem to work fine so hopefully some more users will test them out.
The first download will load up the default Cingular MediaNet/ My ISP WAP MMS Settings and of course MediaNet will be the default.
The second download will load up The same settings except My ISP WAP will be the default connection instead of MediaNet
The third download is basicly the same as the second one but is for those who have the PDA data plan and want to use isp.cingular/[email protected] instead of wap.cingular/[email protected]
Hi
I flashed the
WM6 Cingular USA version (same as the official but cingular customized and radio version 1.48) thanx madcap180
http://rapidshare.com/files/42972317...T-MR3_Ship.exe last night without any problems. But after that I am having trouble of connecting to internet.
Detais: I was connecting internet at home via my own WIFI router well before I flashed the ROM. But afterwards, I can logon skype, and use check windows updates. However, I cannot use IE to go to any webpage. Also, I cannot logon windows live messager. They just simply resposnes that "The page cannot be dispalyed or downloaded because the connection was lost. check the connection and try again later." But the connection is fine all the time.
Can somebody help?
Thanks
Never mind. fixed. just disable the proxy
I too am on at&t usa and every time I experience problems with internet access I simply hard reset and load the "cingular" settings cab. This way your setting are pre configured and it works everytime. The only other thing I could recommend is checking your connection settings under connections and of course email as well . Beyond this, I dunno maybe try and load another rom.
Does anyone know why when quick gps expires, it doesnt automatically update? I am on a custom ROM (mightyrom 2/1) on a CDMA Tp2 (SPRINT). the quick GPS data expires and says EXPIRED but is never automatically updated until I manually do an update. I have it set to automatically update. is there a service or something that needs to be running??
Expired means the 7 days are up that the satellite positioning was good for. It should download new positions which will then say 7 days...
Seems to work fine when I use wireless or when I update synced to my PC...
Thanks.. I know what expired means on QUICK GPS. the issue is that it NEVER UPDATES the data. I have it set to DOWNLOAD AUTOMATICALLY and ALSO to DDOWNLOAD when connected to a PC. NADA.. is there a service that needs to be running or something??
anyone with a solution??
You only need an active internet connection for the update to run. There are no services required to be running for the update. Try opening an internet connection, either 3G or wifi and then manually run the update to make sure the quickgps program itself is not corrupted. If it does update manually, likely you need to change the internet settings to allow programs to open a 3G session.

Thanks for the info.. It does run manually and everythng else runs on its own wihtout me doing anything such as EMAIL, weather, facebook tab updates, etc etc etc... I think its only the quick GPS not running when the data expires.
I also have the check in the down when connected to USB and it doesnt do that either wen I am connected to my computer...
Mine is always up to date. I look every few weeks, and quite unlike my original Tilt, it's always up to date.
check your connections page under network management and make sure of the selection under "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using". I am not sure on sprint, but at&t uses "medianet" for such connections. Try one or more of these settings to see if it makes a difference. Your mail programs are always open, running in the background, and quickgps starts up, runs and shutsdown, so it must enact a web connection, where your mail does not. Likely, since the program works manually, the settings here are not correct

I just checked and under programs that automatically connect it was set to "MY WORK NETWORK" .. then there is program that connect to a private network .. its also set to MY WORK NETWORK. I changed the top on to the choice called SPRINT .. I bet that solves it... Should I worry about the other setting for private networks?
EDIT: I changed it to SPRINT but it keeps resetting to "MY WORK NETWORK" .. how do I fix this? is there a registry setting for this?
EDIT: I put sprint for BOTH SETTINGS and it appears to save... do I need to worry about the PRIVATE NETWORK SETTING since I dont have any VPN set up on the phone.. the MY WORK NETWORK does not have any settings in it...
No, don't worry about it. It is just another option to set up alternate connections, if you need them. Leave it at Sprint for your internet connections and you should be fine. Write more if you need help,
Im on a new ROM and once again QUICKGPS is not automatically downloading when expired.. I followed the fix on here that works on the other rom I was running.. any ideas? Im on mighty 6/20
anyone??? no ideas??
Guys, I just purchased Sprint Touch Pro 2 and using it in Europe (GSM).
Though when I try to run the GPS application, it forces me to download the latest satellite data but even if my phone is connected to the internet via USB, it doesn't download anything.
Any idea why it isn't working? And also, why does the software needs to download stuff from internet, a GPS device should be finding the satellites himself, without any "aid" from external sources.
