Upgraded from Xda II to Xda IIs end January and initially WLAN worked fine, but no GPRS. Went though process of creating GPRS connection (with O2 Support) and now cannot get IE to connect through WLAN. It always tries GPRS! Has anyone experienced this and/or got a solution?
Mike,
You will need to give us some more info on your settings.
If its an O2 unit with original firmwware if you back stuff up try a hard reset to get default settings back and ensure GPRS works then add the WLAN.
I live in Caldecote just outside Cambridge if you get really stuck we could meet up and you can try and copy my settings and check your SIM has GPRS enabled using mine that kind of thing.
Cheers Wayne
Many thanks Wayne. I'll do a backup and hard reset (with trembling hand no doubt) and see where I get to before getting back to you. Many thanks for the offer of help. I'm in Barrington, so it's not a million miles to come to talk if necessary.
you might already know this mike and if so at least it may be of help to others.
if your gprs connection is active then it doesn't matter wheather the wireless lan is on or off, internet explorer will always connect to gprs.
switch off gprs by clickiing on (in my case O2) your service providers icon and if "mobile web" is highlighted then click on it to switch it off.
Thanks, but I'd tried that and more. Eventually, as Wayne suggested, I did the dreaded hard reset and restored everything from scratch. I now have WLan working on my home LAN, but as I have such lousy GSM/GPRS coverage here I haven't yet tried to see if the GPRS side is now going to work. That's for tomorrow and where I started in the first place when I found it wasn't working! :?
Thank everyone for the suggestions.
Hello Mike
I had the same problem, and after thorough search I found the solution:
start->settings->connections -> advanced
select networks : both drop-down boxes are set to
"my work network"
This prevents the automatic gprs connections.
If you want gprs you can use the wireless manager
(start->programs->wireless manager)
and there tap the red gprs icon
In other words RTFM....

Hello all.
Here are all of the known problems that I am having. with WM6 2.01.
(1) Icons on top (connection bubble) never change with the exception of ActiveSync. 3G icon constantly stays on even if connected through WiFi. Shutting phone off still shows Cingular bars as if connected. (Known issue)
(2) Soft button configuration changes do not stick. If I change the programs associated with them, it does nothing.
Also, today screen shows Calendar and ActiveSync as soft key programs, although programs are actually Calendar and Contacts. (Its all jacked up!)
(3) I cannot connect to the internet with my celluar service. It is as if there are no settings installed. The bottom of IE says "Connecting ... 0 KB." Then I get a message saying "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your settings, tap Settings."
I have tried turning on/off, soft reset, etc., but have had no luck
---I have searched the board for an answer to #3, and I have found many people who have similar problems (does not work after 30 min, soft reset will fix), but I do not remember seeing anyone whose settings have completely dropped.
Can anybody shed any light into any of these 3 problems? I really do not use Bluetooth, so I haven't tried anything with it yet. But all other problems I have had, I have been able to fix by myself.
Thanks,
Kangle

Did you put your connection settings back in after you upgraded to WM6??
No, but I didnt save them.
My Wi-Fi is working fine, but I had to config those. On other updates I had done prior, my 3G connection was fine without having to setup settings.
If you have not already done this, you have to go under connections and set up your providers settings. To enter proper settings go to Start/Settings/Connections Add a new modem connection. Enter any name you want for the NAME ( example "Cingular ISP") and make sure that under "select a modem" tab, "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) is sellected. Click next access point name can be what ever you want to call the provider connection (Example "wap.cingular" or "isp.cingular"). And the rest I can not help you with untill we know who your provider is. I am sure if you let us know what provider you have, some one here can post the settings you need to have.
Hope this helps or at least gets you pointed in the right direction.
Awesome. Thanks for the help.
I am to the point where I need to enter user name, password, and domain. I wonder if I am going to need to call Cingular to find out some of that info (password).
Can anybody help me out with those settings?
Thanks,
Kangle
see https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html
but, if you had used the "SEARCH" button you would already have found this...
Go to https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig.do?content=KB71396.html for the settings.
Now I have a quick question that I need to have cleared up. When I connect onlince with my CIngular 8525 it always connects via GPRS/EDGE and not 3G. I do not see a 3G icon come up. Is this becasue there is no coverage at my home? Or did I mess up something?
I am using:
LVSW WM6 RUU_Hermes_WWE_3.30.0.1 [FIXED]
Hard SPLv7
I used the cingular setting cab found from the WIKI
I am using radio 1.40.30.00
Band setting under phone are set to auto

I have been trying to login Messenger Live with Wifi...but it always use gprs instead when my connection is active...
and even my gprs is on...its times out..saying that i need to find a place for better connection and so on..
but why it doesnt connect directly using wifi??
Is there a way to fix the issue? it never happen with wm5's msn
Thanks again
Mike
when the gprs bubble pops up... press cancel.
then it uses wifi. problem fixed. why it tries gprs by default i would assume is due to mobile.
once i cancel works perfect over wifi until i move out of range.
I'm using Black 2.0 and changed the connection settings to 'Work network' (settings-connections-connection-advanced-select networks-my work networks) now I dont get the annoying gprs connection trying to start, just uses the wifi I have set up. Let me know how that goes.
dear all...thanks for the great help
falum...i did ur setup and i dont have the gprs pop up again...many thanks
but the other issues comes in...it often say that i cannot connect..(even when i was on gprs)...do you have the same problem beforee??
Im using the live version that is cracked (no time limited) that i download from here..im really confuse to which version i should get (since some said it expired)...
if its possible...can you direct me to the thread to the correct one??
Thanks again!
Mike
Anybody else find that if it can't connect to a wireless network, it deletes the saved settings? The most recent time it actually said invalid key and prompted for a new key rather than just doing the usual delete job.
Also, would be nice if you could paste into the touchflo 3D config page rather than having to go into the advanced config. Would be a small detail if I didn't have to enter the key again every time I go out of range!
Thanks
I know your problem. It's more a windows mobile problem.
At the moment you click on a connection (router) on your wm device, it will loose the network key. So don't do that.
I've had the problem with one router at our home, but it was the router was faulty. Often it wasn't possible to connect. We got a new one, and it didn't happen egain.
I also experience that the wifi connection drops with the TP2 several times a day. This does not happen with all the other devices so I guess that this is a TP2 specific problem....
My old TYTN2 didn't have this problem but I have heard the occasional complaint in the office. The TP2 consistantly looses the settings.
I contacted HTC support and that is what they recommend. Just applied the settings so I can't say yet if that works.
"I would recommend that you set your WLAN to best performance on your device. This will normally cure any network problems you are having. Please see the instructions below for more information. - Start - Settings - Connections - Wireless LAN - Power Mode - Move bar all the way to the left for Best Performance - Perform a soft-reset - Try and re-connect to your WiFi Network"
my wifi always not connecting...

got the same one .. will try the cure described bellow
Yesterday i had the same thing. I lied in bed, and turned on wifi. It tried to connect, and connect, but after a while, it says: new wifi network found.
So I connected, and I had to fill in again my wifi password… really strange.
TP2 looses wifi settings
Try configuring network key using WPA + TKIP instead of WPA2 which helped fixing my TP2 wifi settings
Hi all,
I have a Touch Pro 2 on T-Mobile in the UK.
After receiving I'd quickly gone through and set up all email accounts and was happily receiving and sending etc.
However one day it dawned on me, the emails would only receive if I was connected via wifi, if i was just using 3G it would say "error synchronising".
I checked the settings 100 times and couldn't work out the the issue, even T-Mobile themselves couldn't help.
Then one day I found what I'd gotten wrong:
Go to Emails
Accounts
highlight account - Menu Softkey
Click Account in list
Edit Account Setup
Next until you get to the E-Mail setup screen with "advanced server settings" as a link at the footer.
Click "Advanced Server Settings"
Change Network Connection from "Internet" to "T-Mobile Internet"
This may be the issue with other networks as well so if you experience the same issue take a look and make sure there's no "orange Internet" etc.
Hey presto your emails will now download via all internet means as well as Wi-Fi.
Who knows why for T-Mobile Internet is actually only wi-fi and not "the other" internet on our devices.
Hope that helps anyone else in the same situation as I was.
I have the same problem but then with my provider Hi.
After a hard reset the settings aren't loaded correctly. I've also been on the phone with the helpdesk, technical helpdesk and a lot of people who really didn't understand a whole lot about phones and they all couldn't figure it out. Touch Pro 2 settings weren't available yet.
Finally I just looked up the settings from the Touch Pro and entered those manually. This worked just fine.
But, if you set the connection to "T-Mobile Internet" instead of "The Internet", it will never use WiFi for that account.
I have a TP2 on T-Mobile and my e-mail accounts are configure to use "The Internet" and it works fine.
Even with Wi-Fi off?
Is your a branded t-mobile handset in the UK?
Hi LocoNinja
I'd be very interested to now how you've got your e-mail able to use either WiFi or the phone's GPRS/3G/HSDPA connection...
Since upgrading to WinMo6.5 (official HTC update) I've noticed that I can only connect to e-mail via WiFi if I use 'The Internet' as the connection, and only connect via GPRS/3G/HSDPA if I use 'T-Mobile Internet' as the connection...
It's bugging the h*ll out of me!
Cheers in advance
possibly a t-mobile issue, as with my vodafone branded tp2 it works fine.
For example: If wi fi is enabled, it uses that. If wi fi is disabled, it just opens a hsdpa / 3g connection and uses that.
Did the same thing on the original VF 6.1 rom and with the newer VF 6.5 rom. Also works perfectly on the custom rom i am using.
Hi dazkeirle, that's what mine used to do on WinMo 6.1... I wonder if something else I've installed has b*ggered it up
Will have a tinker and let you all know if I find anything...
**Sorted it - It was WMWiFiRouter that had messed the connection up - removed, settings changed in e-mail to 'The Internet' and everything's working fine now
Pesky WMWiFiRouter V1.50 - it messes up your display time-out time too
Hi Guys
We have recently had BT open up a Wifi ripoff spot. My Desire seems to like it and is willing to connect to it rather than the 3g network. The wifi spots are unsecured and direct you to the Payment page.
Is there a way to ban this wifi spot so that it will still auto connect to all my other wifi spots that I added myself?
Thanks in advance
Have you taken it off of your remembered hotspots list? If not go to setting, wireless and networks, wireless or WiFi then it should give you a list of remembered hotspots. Click on a hotbot and the option to forget should pop up
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
hi mate i have seen this option but did assume it would just find it again anyway. Does the network go on some sort of hidden blacklist once you tell it to forget.
oh I am going to try it anyway btw and thanks very much for the reply.
If you connect to an open network, it will always try to reconnect to it again once you are in range. So, you need to "forget" the network - it isn't blacklisted and you can still connect to it again if you wish, but it won't try to auto-connect all the while it is "forgotten".
Regards,
Dave
Sorry for opening up this old thread, but I have a issue in the same line, altho fundamentaly diferent:
I have a number of accessible networks within my range. I have a small issue with the auto connect. Is it possible to have the phone remember the network settings for networks, but NOT auto-connect to them?
Or make an ordered list with most preferred AP on top? When I'm in my garage, signal strength make the phone conect to my neighbor (I have his network in my list too, as I often visit and then uses his AP), but want my own LAN and shared folders accessible...
Not sure you guys get my meaning. It wasn't very well written, but I hope you are able to help?
