Maybe it's me or my network operator, but i can't get videocalls to work.
Pushing the videocall button gives me the screen with two cameraviews. It starts dialing and then i can see the phone icon go from 3g to H
But then it quickly say's : "Failed to make videocall"
Any suggestions? (been searching this forum and many others without answers)

Of course it doesn't work with your phones. Neither the 8525 or Tilt have the forward facing camera, and the AT&T network doesn't support it.

More info is needed.
Which hermes rebadge do you have?
Who is your cell phone carrier?
Does your icon go back to 3g, or does it stay at H?
Better call your mobile operator for the instructions to set the problem.

Why does it not work with Orange then? Surely one operator must allow Video Calling?
Same error..."Failed to make video call"
"Failed to make video call" means : Your operator must to allow video calling for your sim card (extra payment).

On the blow-err now 2 Orange....usual green sleaves......will let you know
)
Just to add my tuppence (two cents for our American friends):
I did a video call about 18 months ago, when I first got my Hermes. Then I tried again a few weeks ago and got "Failed to make video call" as soon as the dialer screen had finished coming up. It was way too quick for the network to have tried to connect the call, and I knew I had Video Calling on my account (from the one 18 months ago, hadn't made any changes since).
I spent three days recooking ROM's, trying out different ones and even trying a standard build (that was a culture shock, it's been so long!) but EVERY ONE had the same error message.
Finally, I tried my SIM in my wife's phone, and the same thing happened on her Sony Ericsson, so I called T-Mobile. Yup, they'd somehow lost my video calling on my account! I asked for it back, she put a tick in the "yes" box on her screen and I was able to make a video call as soon as I'd finished on the phone to her.
Moral of the story is to call your network to see if it's activated on your account. Even if you're sure it is, call them to check rather than waste 3 days as I did!!
thank you all for your input.
i've a hermes with two camera's. can't be the problem
i've tried om a dozen wm5 and wm6 rom's including shipped ones
i've asked friends with hermes phones as well, they don't succeed as well
but the simcard switching, network operator thing might be the one, i'll try that.
weird it is. an operator can make a lot of money on my phoneuse when making videocalls. why shut it down?

I have an MDA C3. When web & walk is transferring internet Data and a call comes in, the phone does not ring. It goes directly to the voicemail.
T-Mobile customer service tell me that this is correct as you can either transfer internet data or make a call.
Is that right? I thought that was with WAP which is analagous to dial-up. Surely GPRS is analagous to Broadband.
Anyone else want to try this:
Go to Web & walk home page. Attempt loading up the guardian page (This will take a while). Whilst this is loading, call your phone number and see if it rings or goes direct to VM.
I spend lots of time browsing so I must be losing lots of calls!
Feedback greatly appreciated.
From what I have heard only UMTS devices can support simultaneous voice/data.
Yes - but not GRPS that uses GSM band instead of UMTS.
However, some devices have troubles keeping the data link active when a call comes in.
I am having the same issue (also on T-Mobile UK).
Then IE is running or AS is downloading my mail (I use direct push) all my calls go straight to voicemail.
This is worrying as I just moved over to T-Mobile for the web n walk package to allow me to have instant e-mails. This is a pain if it means I miss calls whilst my mail is downloading.
You'd think that the chances of the 2 coinciding are slim (I don't get a lot of mail, maybe 10 per day) but the wife has already complained 3 times since Friday that she went straight to voicemail, and each time it was exactly as i got a new mail.
Is this a limit of GPRS, the Orbit or just T-Mobile?
Thanks
Dae
I was surprised too... Thats why I posted the query. I thought my phone and/or SIm were faulty. But T-Mobile tell me thats how its supposed to work.
With W&W and Email, Its really hard for someone to get through with a voice call. It was worrying for me as I tend to browse the net whenever I am waiting around. This means that when I am on the bus surfing, no one can get through to me!!
Surely if there is a limitation, then the phone should give precendence to the Voice call. After all, you can pick up your emails or surfing where you left off.
I would really be interested to see if this is a T-Mobile only problem.
No itschase is spot on.
It's not a t-Mobile problem, it's the same for any GSM based network.
Only 3g (UMTS) phones can do data and voice at the same time. No matter what network you are on.
I have just run an experiment in the office as follows:-
Me (artemis with v3 black and blue) - Voicemail when data active
person 1 (MDA compact III - v3 black and blue) - Voicemail when active
person 2 (hermes) - no Voicemail when active.
We are all on t-mobile UK, and therefore it doesn't look like a network issue, but maybe a ROM problem?

What problem? Everything is working as it supposed to. If it's so important to you. Go buy a 3g phone!
I now fully appreciate that 3g phones are the only ones to support this type of behaviour.
I was trying to be helpful and post the results of my test as at that point I didn't realise that only 3g phones worked as such. I was lead to believe this by wikipedia:-
"Class B
Can be connected to GPRS service and GSM service (voice, SMS), but using only one or the other at a given time. During GSM service (voice call or SMS), GPRS service is suspended, and then resumed automatically after the GSM service (voice call or SMS) has concluded. Most GPRS mobile devices are Class B. "
Obviously this is not the case.

I incorrectly assumed that whilst browsing, if a voice call comes in, the phone would give priority to the call.
If I had known what I know now at the time I signed my 18M contract I would have bought a 3g Phone! Its just annoying that i'm stuck with it for another 12M. T-Mobile push the fact that they have set the internet free... but what they fail to get across to everyday users is that its "AT THE EXPENSE OF THE VOICE CALLS"
Because T-Mobile forced you to buy one of their 2.5g phones rather than one of their 3g phones?
I have no problem receiving phone calls while browsing the internet on the P3300.

Neither have I to be honest, the issue only arises while you are actively downloading data. However once the website has loaded, you are free to accept calls again whilst still looking at the site in the browser.

As a test I started downloading a dummy 32MB testfile on my P3300 (from speedtest.bbned.nl) and I called my mobile with another phone.
There was no problem; I received the call while downloading the file.
Maybe it depends on the operator? I am in Holland on T-Mobile

Hi,
It's not enough to have a class A (2G) device, but also DTM (Dual Transfer Mode/Simple Class A) support has to be active in the specific network, otherwise only 3G device on 3G network will provide Class A (simultaneous voice & data).
In fact, there are quite many models from Nokia during last year that support DTM, but as already mentioned, it's not enough.
FYI,

Is that an EDGE network ?
I got the Artemis with PV Black&Blue v3 ROM.
I can receive calls while pages are loading in IE.
I think this is a provider problem.
The phone provider has to intercept your GPRS connection and establish the GSM connection. Maybe T-Mobile just rejects calls while a GPRS connection/transfer is active.
A1 intercepts the page download and my call comes in.
When I pick up, the GPRS connection is closed completely. (not just pending)
So receiving calls while surfing is no problem for me with Austrian A1 provider.
Any other experiences?

Okay, so I recently bought a new unlocked T-mobile Dash off ebay and I am unable to make any outgoing calls.
I also bought a prepaid GoPhone and I'm currently using the sim card out of that, it was activated and works fine on the actual GoPhone.
With the sim in, the Dash lists the network as "AT&T" on the home screen, but if I try to make a call I receive one of three different errors. Either: "the call has ended" or "the operation has failed", once I even got "unknown sim status".
Has anyone ever experienced any problems like this? Does it sound like it has a hardware problem? I also tried doing a hard reset, but no help.
Thanks!

It really just sounds like you've got the wrong settings for this phone. The dash doesn't really do that great of a job when unlocked automatically aligning all the networks unless you specify what network you're using. You can check into a few thread to getting all the right AT&T settings or if you ask a few members here they might have some for you. I'll try to hunt them down for you.
Well there are no settings to configure, I'm just trying to make a phone call, not set up media net or something else.
I've actually got the phone in my house to ring by calling it ONCE out of like 100 attempts, right now though if I even try to dial a number the phone will lock up or say something like "application failure" and exit back to my desktop.
I'm guessing it's just defective and I should try to have it swapped out, oh well.
Well, here is the solution in case anyone else has this problem in the future: Apparently the new GoPhones (the ones that list $15 of free airtime on the box) sim lock themselves to the GoPhone for 120 days, making it pretty much unusable on any other device.
Hi there,
I recently sent my phone back to HTC because my volume button was stuck, which resulted in it not being able to boot (as it always went straight to recovery). They repaired it, and after three weeks without my phone I know received it back. They 'replaced parts and did a software update.'
Problem is, now I have no mobile network connection. The phone recognises the SIM fine, but no signal and search networks results in "Error while searching for networks."
I'm blaming the software update HTC did, so I send them another email. The thing is, I don't want to send it back AGAIN, I had the phone a full 2 weeks before it broke and haven't been able to use it since. Is there anything you guys can think of that doesn't involve rooting it and losing my warranty (which I will probably need now)?
Thanks a bunch

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have, no effect. One other weird thing I have noticed since first posting: at the about -> Phone Identity screen, the phone number does not match my actual sim phone number. It reads the SIM fine though, as all my SIM contacts are available.
Could you use/try another SIM Card to check its work with a different one?
Is WiFi working? Any interruptions druing a regular call?

Regular call is impossible, as I have no cellular network at all. Wifi works fine. I am currently unable to try another SIM, as I'd have to cut a microsim out of a regular one and people around don't want to have their card cut up.
The sim works fine in my old nokia though, so I don't think that's the issue.
I'll try to find a friend with an iPhone 4 to try their microsim, but I'm not really counting on it.
Hi!
I am occasionally unable to receive or make calls on my XZ2c. Specifically, sometimes (say, every few days) people report to me I cannot be contacted although I am in a place where I have good reception. And, in such cases, if I try to make a phone call myself, I cannot. Even more specifically, the caller in these cases hears no ringing and no typical carrier voice message that my phone is off or that I cannot be contacted for the moment; while, when I try to call, nothing happens for a few seconds and then the phone app stops stops trying.
A restart always solves the problem.
Also, it may be the case - but I am not sure - that this happens after the phone has briefly lost reception (for example, in my office, because I exit the elevator, or in my home, as I have a blind spot in the courtyard). This seems to me to be the case based on a few observations but, again, I am not sure about it.
Otherwise, the phone works impeccably, but since I missed a few crucial calls recently this has started to bug me. (Needless to say, my two mostly retired phones, the XZ1c and the OG Pixel, do not have this problem when used in the same environments.)
Any suggestions, please?
I have the same issue - and reboot suddenly resolves it. I've tried to ask over Sony forums, but no reply yet. It bugs me also, but it would be quite hard to report it to Sony service center, as I cannot reproduce the issue myself. (although I think they are aware of the issue) It's a bit strange that my XZ2C has reception problems where my Z5C used to work...

It would help if you would report what carrier you guys are suffering the problem on and whether volte is enabled and if you have tried more toggle options of which networks to fall back on to make sure you receive calls, there is a way to manually set it to fall back all the way to GPRS 1.5 G manually haha my carrier supports that and i was once deep in the forest and still recieved a 1g call haha. It is not enough coverage on weak signal for 2g or edge calls.
In some cases inside big city where they ONLY have either LTE or WCDMA ON THE NETWORK, then YOU MUST either force it to use LTE only, or wcdma only. That way it does not jump back and forth and miss call. Some big cities i set it to lte only and even in basement or in skyscraper it is always full bars. So it just depends which tower types are in your home area.

It's Telenor Hungary, no VoLTE or other "magic" involved. There was a previous thread, which discussed the same issue. Actually I posted it to talk.sonymobile.com also, but please see the attached screenshot - it shows the actual issue. Telenor Hungary shows up as "emergency calls only", while Telekom HU and Vodafone HU seems to be fine. Sometimes switching airplane mode on/off solves the issue, sometimes it's a reboot which makes me able to make/receive calls again. But forcing 2g/3g/lte does not have an effect for me.

If this is the case, it is the SIM cards identification is not consistent to the network tower. Maybe the carrier has updated sim card version if you ask them. If it is emergency calls only logically its the network not authenticating your account based on sim card. It may be sensitive to the phone hardware. I have heard some people on other phone models hadd to ask carrier to provide even old version of their sim card instead of new ones. Try that.

Thanks, I'll give it a try today and ask them to replace sim card. Hopefully it will solve the other appearance of this issue also: whenever I have full bars and talking (usually late night driving home to parents, in a well-covered area), audio quality degrades in seconds - at least on my side - and other party is not able hear anything I say. After disconnecting - if I'm able to do so, and phone app does not get stuck with "call disconnecting" message - I'm not able to make/receive new calls, as only the outline appears of signal strength bars. After restart everything works perfectly. Strange, isn't it?

Got my sim card replaced, now waiting for the issue to pop up again. (or hopefully not) Actually the guy at carrier said my "white" simcard (about a year old) was a problematic one, replaced it with a new. I don't know if this could be true, but hopefully it'll solve the problem.

And did you report Sony that the bug is in the newest firmware?

hi everyone, i have a lg G7 EMW for almost two years now. as said my phone its an EMW, although I use the EM variant ROM for more than a year because of the lack of updates. never had any issues before.
some weeks ago i had to make a call and noticed it was not working, at first i though it was a cover area issue with my carrier, since it was a place a little far away.
but in the following weeks i started noticing a lot of messages saying 'a number called you and did not left a message' and them i realised that the phone actually never ringed, so i started making some tests and realised it was not making or receiving calls.
i cannot acess all the settings in 'call settings menu' it return me an error saying "network or sim card error" but my 4G internet connection and SMS in the other way, works fine.
I already tried my SIM card in another phone, It worked normal. then i tried another SIM in my G7 and it has not worked also.
i have also tried to go back to my country open rom in a fresh install, but nothing changed.
yesterday after receive a cell broadcast notification, it worked for a short period an them stopped again, so i suspect may be some problem with the network, seems intermittent somehow
have any of you faced similar issue or know any solution? is there something i can do in service menu to see if its a hardware problem?

There were networking changes, so you need a sim card that is compatible with these changes.
If your SIM was purchased two years ago, it may not be compatible.
Just contact your phone provider, whoever it is, and ask them to sell you a compatible LTE Sim card. I had to buy one from Net10/Safelink for 99 cents, because the one I bought two years ago from Best Buy for "Net10" was not compatible with the new changes. All phone service providers should have a "buy your own sim" program, so just contact them for it.
check all necessary information in phone's settings about section.
Is any information missing there or blank?

Just contact your phone provider, whoever it is, and ask them to sell you a compatible LTE Sim card. I had to buy one from Net10/Safelink for 99 cents, because the one I bought two years ago from Best Buy for "Net10" was not compatible with the new changes. All phone service providers should have a "buy your own sim" program, so just contact them for it.

i can give that a try but i'm not sure, my LTE and SMS seems to work normal, it is only the calls the problem.
the other SIM card i tested on my G7 was from a different carrier and the problem persisted
also my sim worked normal on other phone (Moto G5 Plus)

Call your carrier and ask them if they are using VOWIFI and VOLTE for their calls now.
The phone falls back to 3G mode on calls.
If the SIM or the tower you connect to is not provisioned for VOWIFI/VOLTE, the calls will use 3G.
if the tower is provisioned for VOWIFI but your SIM is not, then the calls will fail. SMS will not fail since that's LTE already.

This problem arises when particular phone has lost phone identification numbers such as S/N, IMEI SV and mainly IMEI. if it's the case then you must try flashing latest stock firmware for you model.
