Which rom suits me? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

ok.
I'm a new O2 xda exec owner, although i've previously owned an axim and i currently own an hx4700, and i'm a developer, so i'm technically literate. In case it matters, i'll be using this phone on a 3G network in australia. Vodafone/Optus/3
What i need the device to do.
1. Make/Receive phone calls in 2G & 3G
2. Run .NET framework 2 mobile (ie studio 2005 apps)
3. Use GPRS & UTMS data
4. use WIFI with good performance
5. PIM applications (Calander, contacts etc)
6. Remote Desktop/Terminal services client
What i would like the phone to do
1. Video calling
2. Work with a standard bluetooth headset
3. be responsive
4. Have "Hi-res" mode in PIE
5. Have a GPRS disconnect button
6. As high a degree of office doc compatability as possible
7. Have as much free memory as possible
8. Sync with both vista and xp
9. Do a rotations shift (portrait-landscape) as quickly as pos
10. Have a pretty (skinnable?) Phone dialer app
11. Ideally support SDHC cards (4gb), lowest priority though
12. Good stablity and uptime
What i'm not fussed about
1. Stereo bluetooth/ any bluetooth except headset
Can anyone recommend which version of the Radio rom and Main rom i should be using? (currently got "midget" wm6 rom and radio 1.09), my bootloader says version "1.00".
Also, where would i find the radio roms?...
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Why am I selling my universal to ebay

You can see the item 9133392608 is for the sale to the ebay.
The reasons I would like to share with you are the following:
1. The unit is not very practical for business use.For example on the road you have to open the unit and press the stylus . Totaly impractical , I use to have a P910i and I could do any task (e.g. check my email) in 2 seconds.
2. Although the screen is VGA you cannot take advantage of it.
3. With any ROM i had tried (inluding latest DOPOD rom) , only with i-mate latest ROM i have 99.99% reliability.
4. The BT (JX-10) disconects sometimes with all the ROM i had tried.
5. It is like a PC (I have powerbook MAC tiger since 1 year) that needs formating once a week so it can work faster.
6. The 3G (UMTS) it's nice but OS it is a big bottleneck.
7. It cannot be sync MAC OS X without any issues (like my P910 use to). There is a sofware called missing sync in beta for WM5 but it doesn't work always.

1. the unit is very practical for using on the road (do you know any other laptop that fits your pocket  )
2. you can use the VGA screen if you want to (its not easy though)
3. up to date stock info is more reliable then old info 8)
4. ..
5. its like a PC i can do everything i want on it.
6. i love having internet in the train
7. can sync with exchange server

1. If you don't know how to use it, it's very impractical yes.
But if you know how to use the keyboard, you can start any program and do everything without having to touch the stylus or the screen. It's perfect for in a car as I use it like that with a brodit carholder.
2. It has VGA and it's perfect for using remote control like www.logmein.com, I can connect to my homepc 640x480 full screen and start a download so when I come home it's finished, or check websites that don't work very well on Pocket internet explorer.
For as far the desktop of the pocketpc, who wants that in VGA mode all the time? it's way to small for that.
3. I use the latest QTek ROM and it has eveything I need like MSN, A2DP, AKU2 and is super stable. Nothing to complain.
4. I am using a bluetooth carkit supertooth II and a Bluetooth GPS at the same time without any problems.
5. It's like a PC I can watch series like southpark in the car with the sound coming from my car speakers with an FM transmitter. I watch videoclips, MSN, read email and the only time when I need to reinstall it is when I want to checkout another ROM.
6. The UMTS is perfect when my DSL is down, I connect my Universal as a modem and use the internet through the UMTS connection.
Download abut 45KB upload 7KB. Only for the low ping of 200-250ms it still is perfect for browsing and even downloading stuff.
7. Then stay with your P910 and your Mac. When you bought a Mac you knew you would have compatibillity issues with almost every program on the internet. Now the Universal doesn't work very well you balme the universal?
I am happy with my universal, and the complaints you are making has nothing to do with the universal. But with the user behind it .

Buying a Pocket PC for use with a mac is... mad, surely?
Next time, do your homework, and nice seeing you - enjoy your P990 forums.
I planned to buy a Universal on eBay, but after reading your post I decided not to bid on a machine as lousy as that

GUys...
Use Nokia HS 12w...Stereo BT,FM and caller ID...I hope this eliminates all the "impractical" things
Speed and reliability
This is the key for a business phone appart from practicality.
I loved the phone for the 3G / UMTS connection but Microsoft had prooved again how badly they design their OS.
I agree with you that it is cool but it is a gadget and gadgets are cool.
But if you want to be serious and do some work , you would wait , upgrade the ROM when a new version comes up , sync again ...and waste your time.
It is no suprise that companies who control the biggest of the mobile phone market they don't use the WM as an OS but symbian.
On the other hand I am very happy to read this forum and I would missed that .

Using the ROM of QTEK the BT JX-10 lost it's service and I had to re-enable it at the time that I was in a meeting.
With i-mate ROM i didn't had this issue but sometimes the voice was breaking up.

I don't know why that happens. If I were you I would do the following.
1. USe the houlx with another pocketpc to find out if the problem lies with the holux GPS or the Universal.
2. If it's the Universal upgrade to the latest ROM.
3. I use the Universal in my car with an active holder. So it's charging while I am using my GPS and the screen stays active. Maybe that has something to do with it but I doubt it. I use the Adapt 300 GPS by the way.

From your footer I see that you have a history with WM including VELO 1.
I had one too , and return it for a PSION and then PALM devices and never got a WM device only till recently.
FYI, the jasjar syncs with MAC OK with missing sync beta 2.5a10 .
I think I would go for an E61 nokia instead .
I just sold my O2 Exec on eBay too, for the same reasons -- not practical for business. Too "clunky" physically... OS and software too slow.

If a symbian OS mobile was using a 500Mhz processor than it would be able to make some coffee , wash the dishes ..etc.
WM5 mobiles are power / memory / system resources hungry .
Of course it always depends of the user , if you want the smallest notebook like a friend here wrote than it is the one.

It is'nt a new rom, T-mobile UK 1.30.114, date:18.04.2006.
this rom not support arabic at all
I installed this ROM few weeks ago and so far the best one. I had before QTEK one and EXEC, but this one is the best.
I have installed the new T-Mobile rom this evening with no problems... having re-synced with mail2web, I was able to immediately use push email and a2dp and wireless headset profiles (via a motorola h820 headset).
a2dp was satisfactory - audio quality wasn't perfect but acceptable, although there was occasional break-up (albeit I was walking around at the time) - I'll need to test this a bit more thoroughly to see if it's a realistic alternative to a wired mp3 player.
There are a few cosmetic changes to the t-mobile ui and a couple of additional apps also - sapsettings for remote sim management via bt (had not seen this before) and commmanager for managing phone, wifi, bluetooth, activesync, and pushemail via microsoft directpush.
The battery icon has also been moved to the startbar!
Perfomance seems to be improved also compared with the previous t-mobile firmware.
i tried to upgrade my jasjar but i could not so could you please explaint to me the ways to upgrsde my jasjar
thanks

As far as I can tell it does - I'm using the free mail2web exchange service and push email appears to be working fine using the default (ms push) settings...
As a further update to my experiences with the rom, I am very happy with the slight (but noticeable) performance boost, and the upgraded firmware has improve the phone / bt headset's ability to connect on-the-fly - ie: now I can just turn on the bt headset and the phone will automatically connect, whereas previously I had some problems reconnecting the two...
The only downside is I have experienced the occasional random freeze, requiring a soft reset - I have not installed additional apps under the new firmware yet either. (but i did let it install all the t-mobile extended rom stuff)
I've upgraded and thought I'd share my experiences as I reconfigure the device:
I went from R: 1.06.00 / G:42.40.P8 / D:1.20.32.WWE
to: R: 1.10.03 / G:42.44.P8 / D:1.30.114.WWE
1) for those that plan to upgrade in the hope of getting a better signal - DON'T. So far the signal is just as bad as it used to be, in the same conditions it's sometime even worse.
2) the only file I had to fish out the extended rom so far is PP_TMUK_conn_uni_130149.CAB. - the internet connection settings
3) sync was not happening until I reset the settings on both the desktop AND the device - something that would catch 'newbie' user by surprise.
4) There are few changes to the GUI, but it's mostly cosmetics. The icons are slightly different, the connection manager got a nice revamp.
5) There are very few application changes, at least not that I could notice, apart from a wireless connection manager on the today screen.
6) The extended rom folder contains all sorts of new and updated files, none of which I ran, but it would be nice to document those somehow.
7) Ram stats are as follow upon first reboot: storage: 43.50 total, 5.44 used, 38.06 free / programs 49.70 total, 18.55 used, 31.15 free
Overall I'm not sure if I'd recommend that upgrade - it doesn't seem to bring anything to the table.
UPDATE 27-07
8) There is indeed, as other have reported, a performance improvement in this release. It isn't 400% faster, but it definitely feel 'snappier'.
9) Call 'quality' has improved, meaning that with a good signal you'll hear 'better' sound than on the previour ROM, however signal quality as mentionned above stays very poor.
More to come as I test it some more...
At the beginning starting of programm switches off device, when says "device no connected" Current ROM installed Qtek 1.30.77WWE. PU10 At last device was killed and reupgraded by previous Qtek upgrading via bootloader screen only. Was very funny!

Recommendation for converged device

Hi,
I'd appreciate your recommendation of a converged device (ie PDA & phone) that does everything AND does not have a camera.
Today I have an Axim X51V, that has a very large VGA screen, WIFI, BT, but is not a phone and does not have GPS.
I'm aware of the HP HW6910 and the FS LOOX T810. Both are quite large, due to the fixed frontal keyboard. Further, they have a very small, low-res screen.
I'd prefer a smaller device (possibly by having a sliding keyboard) while not sacrificing the screen size and resolution..
I also don't mind if the device doesn't have an integrated GPS, as I own a BT GPS.
My usage is as follows:
1. Sync with Outlook at the office.
2. Browse the Web via WIFI (B/G) or BT.
3. Navigation, using various navigation apps.
4. Pick up mails while travelling.
5. View/edit documents, PDFs, Excels, etc (but this is a light usage).
6. RSS feeds, weather, etc, all sorts of utilities.
7. Watch family pictures every now and them.
8. No music, basically no movies or games.
Additional considerations (in addition to the above usage):
1. I'd prefer a Quad-Band/Tri-Band device, with preference to GSM networks (as I live in Europe).
2. Support for GPRS, EDGE at the least.
3. Fast CPU, for the Nav apps.
4. Lots of memory.
5. WIFI (B/G) and BT (2.0 preferred).
6. Standard Mini USB port preferred.
7. Powerful battery.
How does the forthcoming WM OS affect my decision?
I'd appreciate your recommendations.
Thank you,
Daniel
Well the Hermes is a great device but it has a camera.
How about the Cingular 8500? i.e. The non-camera version of the Cingular 8525. I just recently(2 days ago) received my Cingular 8525, and I am EXTREMELY pleased with it.
What is the generic name of the Cingular 8525?
The non-camera thing is imperative, as my workplace won't allow cameras.

Well, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by a generic name, but essentially it's a Hermes 100 device(minus the camera, of course). I'm also not sure if Cingular is shipping these units yet, or if they even have any in stock. My uneducated guess would be that they release them at the same time as the 8525, but of course, I could be wrong about that. BTW, my 8525 is just fantastic! Learning more and more about it every day!

VOIP working on HP 914c w/ WM6.1?

Anybody get VOIP working on the WM6.1 HP 914c yet? I've installed different VOIP CABs, but till now no succes
Brandnew HP 914c is such a suberb device with all of the specifications, but they removed the WM6 "Internet Calling" function (in contrast till their older device the HP 514 "Voice Messenger" which is made for voip)..
I hope one of the smart developers here will know a solution !
For my HP 914c I succeed with these files:

*Sound loudness is very good (not quiet or so) - by install of just file (1) sound was very quiet!
*Sound by internal speaker, not external (like Fring)
*GPS is working just normally
*I used a HP 914c / product-ID FB052AA#ABH / Productrevisieniveau: 1.0 / ROM-datum: Jul82008 / ROM-revisie: MP-1.00.05 (info HP Asset Viewer)
But:
*WIFI connection is quitting very quickly after no use of the device, so connection to SIP provider is lost. This is very annoyingly because then I am not reachable for others on my SIP number..
Dose someone know a hack for keeping the WIFI online ?
Thanks !
Greetings,
Calls over 3G don't work
I have just another "big" problem to solve:
*Calls over WIFI are just PERFECT (good quality)
*BUT... calls over 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) don't work yet !
*It is possible to call over sip to external numbers (like a landline) > other phone is ringing normally > when other phone picks up there is a connection, BUT no sound.. (dead line, in both directions)
*I am using a 3G data-only card from KPN (Netherlands) and an account from Voipbuster.com for testing
*Looks like data provider blocks port 5060 ?
*When I use same 3G data card and same Voipbuster account, but then by Fring i CAN do a call and it's WORKING
*When I use same 3G data card and same Voipbuster account, but then by my notebook (with the 3G data card in my notebook with a ExpressCard) it is working too !
Very strange huh.... Somebody ?
Hello everyone, we have Time Warner Cable, and Vonage phone. When we are uploading/downloading something on the internet we own a home-based design business, so this happens often, the quality of our calls is horrible sometimes not even able to use the phone. What would fix this…a higher speed internet connection or should we look at switching to a phone line that is not VOIP? Have a nice day.

Touch Pro 2 - Bluetooth Compatability

I have a compatability problem between my new HTC Touch Pro 2 and my new Volvo XC 60 as detailed below. HTC say the following
The Bluetooth stack refers to the suite of protocols that are compiled to provide Bluetooth functionality. At this time, there is currently no official software available that will correct this issue. It may be possible for you to obtain third-party software
Is there anyone who may know if such a Third Party Software provider who can resolve this, many thanks

There are several threads in this forum that provide some answers.
I have a new S80 - experienced the identical problem to yours - and I did the following registry changes:
BlueTooth Fix:
1.Navigate to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Click "Values" soft-key
Change "00001001" value to 1 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 2)
Change "00001005" value to 40 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 16)
Reboot device.
2. Modify the HandsFree plug-in:
HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\HandsFree
i. Change SupportedFeatures to 45 (default is 1135)
ii. Add value HFBDA binary, set to same value as LastConnectedBda
iii. Add value HFDeviceType decimal 2
3. Modify the WIDCOMM bluetooth general settings:
HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\BtConfig\General
i. Change bdaddr to (no value)
ii. Change DisableReopenAudio to 0 (default is 1)
4. Reboot device
To find other threads on this forum (and PPC Geeks) search for "Pairing bluetooth with car".

I couldn't answer incoming calls. This worked perfectly. Thank you
I have had quite similar problems with my HTC TP2 an a Volvo V50.
Then I found out that there was an update of the BT-software of the car. The Volvo-Service installed the free update of the software in the car. Now it works fine without any problems.
