I have seen a lot of posts about cooked rom etc. Just curious what am I gaining by upgrading to WM6? I see there are still bugs to be worked out and community support is definitley the way to do it.
I am a newbie, and I know the upgrade isn't ready for me but I am tempted to test and help the community out but not sure what additonal features are added in WM6 that I should look for and test?
Also which ROM seems to be a all in one upgrade for the Cingular 8525?
Just the faster navi and app run speed will make u wanna upgrade. btw..seems to be more stable than WM5.

Here's a MS press release that you can check out:
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/feb07/02-11WM6SoftwarePR.mspx
As far as which WM6 d/l's out there, you can refer to the stickies in this forum or the wiki.
Your device will faster, stable, nice icons, you get all the benefits from the new upgrade pointed to you and its feels like a new PPC at zero cost.
It's faster!
I can also confirm, that WM6 is much more faster (my subjective impression is about 1.5 to 2 times faster).
And it looks better
soniX
Can somebody post a benchmark, so we can measure the benefit of WM6.
Still there are many bugs, and different bugs in the WM6-ROMs.
Speed & Style aren't the only quality-attributes!

A resume about WM6 / Exchnage 2007
A resume about WM6 / Exchnage 2007
If you're coming from the stock cingular rom (1.34), everything just feels a lot faster, and much more stable. You'd have to spend some time reading to get some of your cingular specific settings back. A lot of those settings are floating around the boards.
If you're after all inclusive, it looks like threedes released a rom with several added programs. If you just want a rom that feels like stock cingular, check out lvsw. that's what i'm running on my 8525, and it's great.
Some additional functionality as well. One of the small yet convenient features is the ease of which you can add a recently called number to existing contacts. in wm5 i would have to start as if creating a new contact and copy and paste the number to a new one. just my penny and a half
After a week with WM6 I've decided to go back to South African ROM 1.35 and Radio ROM 1.27.
Just too many bugs and minor flaws with WM6 I tried I just felt it ain't worth the hustle. ROM 1.35 was as fast and more stable with programs than WM6 was.
I will just kick back and wait for a possible REAL WM6 rom to appear from operators or something. Better to have a stable phone with less pretty icons than a flashy looking pda with bugs.
And since you can gain pretty much everything (xcept for those icons) with tweaks/utils I haven't really found WM6 to be any better.
But isn't WM6 at least twice as fast on your tytn? Mine is and this is a big benefit. Changed again from the e61 to the tytn..
SPB Soft works like a charm.. BT and WIFi do work with WPA2.. Vodafone works great as well.. Never had a more clear sound..
I wouldn't like to change back..
My personal view is that WM6, at least the version I have used, is no faster then the WM5 I was using. I think the reason people always claim the new ROM's are faster is because it is a clean install, the same thing happens with Windows on your PC.
Apart from lots of small tweaks here and there, there is nothing major in WM6 with the exception of the themed bars being more curvy. It's more of a WM5 with a couple of service packs to me. Still, worth a look.
Definitely noticed a significant improvemnt in responsiveness on my M3100.
Also, less phone lockups /issues I think.(subjective judgement)

Well this 1.35 ROM is as fast as WM6 I had. The AKU 3.3 ROM version I had was slow as hell. Speed wasn't the reason to change back from WM6 but the annoying little bugs:
- Windows Update wouldn't close but using Task Manager
- Turn WiFi Off from the balloon
- TomTom 6 ocassional start up problems
- Soft key setup's little change under Text Messages (Where it used to be New now had Delete)
- Pocket MSN/Live problems (constantly tried to open the GPRS connection after sign off and closing the app).
- SPB Backup problem (couldn't unlock a file)
- WiFi annoyance: Even when there were available APs, the
phone didn't announce it but you had to manually go see if there were any
These problems (that I remember off hand) are the reason why Im not going to use WM6 anymore until some legimit party releases one.
@Steiale: You said WPA2 works. Does that mean you can use WPA-AES encryption? If so: what exact version of WM6 are you using - vanilla, ...?
Thanks in advance,
Michael
Can somebody post a benchmark to compare?
2x faster, 1,5x faster isn't much representative.
If a Rom or Radio upgrade is released the signal strenght is always better and always faster and much better battery duration.
If it really was so, we should all have 365 days battery lifetime without charging and always full signal strenght and the program is opened before pressing a button.
Since upgrading to wm6 the most significant changes for me is that it runs faster than wm5 and the pocket outlook (messaging) now does html email

Which wm6 rom are you using?
WPA2 is important to me, and would be a reason to upgrade. You do mean WPA2 with AES?
Are these things improved on the mailclient:
- selection of smtp at time of sending (like is possible on symbian), or support for different smtp profiles
- specification of the imap root folder
- bluetooth pan (would love to use this to connect my laptop via tytn to 3G)
Thanks!
Jörg
Well, after just 1 week, WM6(Most Beautiful Edition) seems
1) much, mush faster than before. Faster than my friends WM5 on Dopod838Pro(Hermes).
2)more RAM even
3)Hmm, looks like I am the only one who likes the delete softkey in messaging replacing the new... Probably because I just use SMS...
4)Stable.
5)Faster reboot(useful if you tend to try new software almost every other day).
6)Widcomm can now power up easier(less or no driver memory error). Yeah, for me, the MS Bluetooth stack still sucks for A2DP).. File transfer seem more faster too, probably a pyschological effect from the faster interface..
I'm a little confused on which ROM to go for. Ideally I need it for the following purposes:
1. IT Management/Networking - For my employment
2. University Purposes
3. General purposes as I also work freelance.
I would also hopefully like it to be fully loaded with apps as I'm not going to install anything else and also fast and stable. I have a 1GB Card for storage if that helps.
If anyone can suggest something I would appreciate it.
try all roms if you hav time
im using t-mobile beta but duttys supa dupa rom is great
schps 3.60a great but just wait till 3.60b few isues now
TNT V2 is loaded. But so are some others. U need to read the COOKS rom threads / posts for information and see which one U want for yourself. Also, their are a number of rom POLL treads around.
hello friend! I already used lots of roms,, I like Shaps roms!

There will never be a "perfect" ROM; each chef has their own favourite base applications that they cook in to the ROM, but these don't always suit everyone.
You're not giving too much away, are you??? What device do you have, what country are you in, what provider do you use, etc.....
As for "purposes", they're pretty nondescript - IT Management/Networking is my job too, but there are countless add-on applications you might need over and above the standard issue WM6 apps (like RDP client - and there are several versions of that!!). University purposes; does that mean you need Word or OneNote for lectures, or what? Similarly, Freelance covers a multitude of sins......so you're a freelance what?? Hitman, photographer, journalist, the list goes on.......
Everyone you ask will recommend their own personal (current) favourite ROM, but their favourite may not suit you at all. As for my personal recommendation, it would go something like this....I use JJ's Black ROMs - currently Black Satin, but I have also heard good reports of Schaps 3.57x series of ROMs (the 3.60 series is still being developed and there are one or two oddities still being ironed out).
Honestly, your best bet would be to start with a "Lite" ROM (one without all the extra crap built in) and then add the things you want; networking utils, productivity tools, etc....oh, and the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT thing to do before you start on your ROM flashing expedition is to READ - the guide(s) written by MrVanx (http://www.mrvanx.org) and the XDA Wiki for the Hermes (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes) are essential reading material.
Everyone who has replied to your post has given good advice - it's up to you the route you take, but there are plenty of willing people ready to help if you get stuck along the way.
Enjoy!!!
Mark.
for the time being tnt v2 is the most fastest and stable one...
I had this dilemma, I eventually went for Schaps or whatever it's called as it seems the most popular all rounder. I'm loving it and I think I'll keep it on. I get extremely nervous flashing ROMs so once a year sounds good to me, can't afford to be indesicive and brick it.
would suggest any ROM with LITE versions then you can just look around for applications that you need and install them..
hi, there are so many roms out there, quite a few have lots of added apps, some useful some not, but if you using your phone just for specific things, get a 'LITE' rom and add what you need, search for the new supa duper lite rom, its got loads of space, very nippy... then just fill up what you need.
Actually Scrub that, Supa Dupa Lite Rom is the Dogs, But in all Fairness, You want a 'all rounder', a rom with a good selection of apps, very very nice and very stable, my friend, i think that ANY schaps roms will fit the bill
i dont know why but 3g and hsdpa data works with tmobil based roms, htc one wont work just gprs and edge. is there any tmobil patches to make it work?
And to throw another option out...there are several very neat kitchens out there, if you look around. Using one (or more) of them will enable you to whip up exactly what you need/want.
Of course, learning that process is somewhat involved.

Hi everybody!
Sorry for the delay, now I'm back on XDA-Devs forum and I hope to release soon new ROMs. I don't know yet if I missed a lot of new stuffs for our favorite device, so I ask you what you wish for the future Schap's ROMs...
Which build do you prefer? What is the most stable build from the newest ROMs? What are the newest HTC stuffs and OEM soft that I could include? Superstorage? What about other tweaks?
Schaps,
Welcome back. I hope your personal issues are now sorted.
From my perspective I prefer a lite but very stable ROM, as light as possible. Every item I then need should be availabe as a cab. That way I get my own "personal" ROM, without things I don't want (eg HTC Home). It also makes it extremely easy to update apps by simply deinstalling the old item and re-installing the latest version.
Shamanix has developed something along these lines using your 354c ROM, if I remember correctly. This has been well received by the forum. I personally have not used it asI have been waiting for your return plus you have now built a reputation for delivering rock solid ROMS, which is my no 1 priority.
I think taking the super/mega lite approach not only gives the user what they want but should cut down on your workload, and a lot of requests for different things within the ROM, all of which should be easily available as a cab.
So in summary I am looking for superlite but extremely stable ROM with your advanced config tool and all the things you would include in a ROM available as cabs, all of which should be fully tested for stability.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
WB
PS: One more thing; you need to offer an alternative way of making donations other than by Paypal. Many of us don't trust Paypal or have had problems with it.
thanks for coming back
Lite, with big storage and max memory atleast 30mb. thats it. very basic things u can cook in. pls use the latest build.
Thanks
Welcome Back!
Just one request - fix the bluetooth issue.
Hi Schaps and WELCOME back !
I hope all is well with you! We certainly missed you here
What do I need personally?
LITE LITE LITE and MEGA MEGA MEGA
Totally agree with wacky.banana statements. SOLID rom, as LITE as possible, Melted EXT_ROM (unless you think this makes the rom unstable) and all the cabs in the world to load whatever I want at any moment.
Memory leaks is a major problem for me, which steadily lead to a necessary SR. If this can be avoided or minimized to a minimum, this is a major plus IMHO.
Thanks again for all the beatiful roms you have created in the past, and looking VERY much forward to your new one
my coments suggessions are same as above

Welcome Back Schap's
Your ROMS are great which differs from many others, the best ROM from you was the 3.6 but it needed some tweeks especially the BT issue, we need to make it a superstore one, good luck we will always back you.
DO your best as allways
Make the best ROM, without any bugs, make it with as much more storage as you can and it's possible.
You cook much programms, but some of them not needed.
If it's possible make accept from any you will make one Lite version, that should have the best more free storage.
I dont know in which build you will end BUT I think you should make a 3.54d Lite because there are some customisations for non English environment which they are made on 3.54 HTC official rom and they don't work on other build, not to mention that 3.54 seems to be the most stable from others. Thanks . Glad you are back and I hope NOT to have other problems EVER.
a new lite edition
hello schaps.. I do like your work! I´d like u to make a lite edition without WMP... cos I think a few people uses WMP, for ex.. I always use Coreplayer that uses less RAM...
Thanx bro!
Just make sure you include the keyboard while on phone fix
that is the only reason I had to flash away from your rom.
Welcome back!
My suggestions:
-Ext-ROM melted into Mainstorage with Lite-Version (70+MB available free mem. after HR)
-Advanced Config with no Ext-ROM Options (if melted and not available)
-HTC Streaming Media left inside (for stability with 3G Dialers, no working Streaming Media cab for Hermes at the moment)
-3G-Dialer with Smartdialer
-Internet Connection sharing with new "W-LAN Router" hack (patched dll and settings, maybe over Advanced Config switchable?)
-IR-Beam disabled by default
-No Standard File Explorer if possible (this is the worst app ever)
I have found the AT&T 3.62 build works great, and 1.54.07.00 radio seems to only work properly with this build (the missing signal problem, i mean).
The other things that need to go: stock file explorer, WMP, and the default calculator.
In my experience, mega storage ROMs hemmorage memory, so if you could make it more stable that would me killer.
Hi Schap:
I suggestion a new Schap's WM6-Pro ROM with ExtROM 3.62 with CE 5.2.1622Build 18128.0.4.4 (last one for AT&T) and check the last version for each OEM application and additional.

What about total commander as a real replacement for file explorer ?
AT&T 3.62 is stable
Runs around office shouting for joy
Sweet!!! I am so glad you are back!! (Just not the same without you). Whew suggestions well lets see
I disagree with most of the posters here about super lite, there are enough super lite roms on these forums and I generally get better performance with ROMs with cooked in apps (45+ MB of storage would be great if most critical apps are cooked in)
1. Add Internet Sharing over Wifi (per fluxist) in advanced config or as a standard setting, this is HUGE!
2. If there was anyway you could cook in any of the newer stuff off the touch dual (contact mgr, full screen keyboard, pic view, etc) that would be incredible
3. Storage is great but super storage... not so much, I think I get better performance with cooked in apps
4. This is a matter of personal taste (and I usually mod it with cabs) but the kaiser comm manager/dialer/audio manager is easier for me to user one handed than the comm/dialer/audio manager included in the base 103.60
5. Get rid of WMP and standard file explorer (replace with something better)
6. ATT 3.62 as base
7. Oxios
9. If the new HTC keyboard/contacts is not available could you talk to the pocketcm folks about cooking in their apps?
10. Audio Equalizer (HP put one out it is on these forums somewhere)
11. Touchflo!! (I can't believe the alpha is working after all this time) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334965
Thats it WELCOME BACK
Bluetooth
Hi Mr. Schap!
Your ROM is really wonderfull, i just hope you can fix the bluetooth problem in the new version!
Thnx!
Hi,
Messchle's & Tom Condon & Dutch rom developpers seem to be on a new year pauze, as far as i know there hasn't been released any (WWE) rom yet in 2008, only some greek & french stuff.
What do you all like in new upcomming roms ? This to get some inspiration to the rom-creators and offcourse to keep our P3300 in the running.
Maybe some cam tool (msn live cannot start camming i think, would be nice with your p3300 via wifi
I have ordered a second P3300 (other one in repair shop).
It's the best pda-phone I ever had, gsm-gps-wifi-mp3-mp4, what more can they invent ?
Cheers,
Innovator
That's right. Im still longing here everyday for a latest and clean ROM this 2008. Artemis, my bets device Only if it had a 2.8" sized VGA screen like in Eten, nothing could beat it ever!
Regards,
Carty..
2008, maybe I change my phone
im with you new phone i need 3g
New Rom Requests
A Touch Keyboard "Add Word To Dictionary" that actually works
Hold "End Call" button to lock device
Yep looking for new phone here too.
Artemis has been amazing, but now I want 3g in the bundle so Maybe Kaiser or hang on for Polaris.
The Artemis has done well, I'm not sure of the value of writing anymore ROM's at the moment, what's new to add to them? Perhaps a Pointui ROM in the future.
I want to have rock stable and clean ROM based on HTC P3300 WM6 ROM with maximized free storage and program memory - no added applications or features (like touch and cube) - just a base for making my own system with free and commercial applications, customizations and personal data for backup and restore.
Best wishes for Meshle and Tom for their great work and happy new year.
I would like to see more roms but im looking for a new phone, whatever i get though i'l still keep my orbit

a clean wm6 rom would be nice indeed

Then you need the Vanilla ROM from Meschle. That one is stable and clean.
PointUi Rom
I agree with Gadjet, a pointui based rom would be nice with themes for pocket cm, wmp, cube, today screen ect Maybe someone with the skills (and time lol) could do a couple of versions eg : Black with cube, Blue with cube, Black without, Blue without...
About the topic
I think it's really nice to have people the create the ROMs we use but I think it would be a lot nicer to have a kitchen that enables the user to create his own individual ROM. There is a guy in a German Windows Mobile forum that created a tools that is close to that:
http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=121552
http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=124358 (improved version)
I think it was the pandora kitchen that made me wish that we had it too. I think in that kitchen you can select between about 100 packages which ones you want on your pda. Basically we need a kitchen and packages that work for our Artemis, then updating shouldn't be the biggest problem.
I respect the "Chefs" that cook really nice ROMs and I'm not telling them to stop their good work. But if we all had one big kitchen this would be a community again because the users could create their own packages and their own ROMs.
Once I found out how easy it is to create a package and cook your own ROM I was surprised that no one told me before. The tutorials are either overloaded or don't have enough information for the beginners to understand what the Chefs are talking about. That's why I'm going to make video tutorials in February and post them as soon as they are ready (starting in my own language).
I'd be happy if we could make this nice place a true community again where the users think about contributing. To be a good example I'll post my first tutorial within the next week.
That tool you have linked to looks awesome.....I'm into that in a big way and will give it a go when I have some time...thanks for sharing....

It's my current ROM - I agree - very stable, clean, with good battery life and plenty of free memory, but as far as I know it's not based on P3300 (and I'm not sure if Java midlet manager in this ROM could be used without any legal problems).

Have you tried the last new ROM from Meschle Vaniila 4.01? This one is even
faster than the other releases. I'm working with this one for a week now and this one is also stable and very very fast.
Artemis vs Polaris
I have tried out the Polaris a bit, and it looks almost the same as the Artemis, only faster (400 MHz) and with some minor approvements. I especially like the screenshield which follows. But, I miss the full GPS package with car kit and charger, but this is just accessories, and can be bought anywhere. I will definite buy one of those in som time......I think... Depends on the next generation of ROMs from the gurus here at XDA
Greetings from Norway, especially to Tom Codon, Meschle, Bepe, Carty and a lot of other great developers on this forum.
Hello everybody,
I've the P3300 almost since three years by now (I've buyed just at the launch date!).
I've always used the original rom, moving to wm6 when the orginal wm6 rom was released.
Now I would like to change, but I've found quite a lot of choices and I'm a bit confused.
Could you be so kind to suggest me some stable rom, both with and without manila interface? (I understand manila2D interface roms are better looking but a bit heavier with respect to that wihtout manila 2D, isn't?)
Thank you in advance!
Good Rom
Click my signature and look at my posts for TouchFlo 4.02
This is by far the best rom I have used and believe I have used a few
It's only my problem that i see no signature for Dixiesmu?
In Profile options the box "Show Signatures" obviously is checked.
Hi all (it's my first message on this board)!
