Is //Virtual// Vga mode for Artemis possible??? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

As i have searched on internet there is hack for Htc Athena for Vga mode.(640x480)
can this be done with some software hack for Htc Artemis someway (even virtually, only to have smaller icons on screen, and when opening Web browser to have virtual 640x480 resolution) ???

VGA = 640x480 pixels
QVGA = 320x240 pixels
You cannot make a QVGA device sudenly into VGA not possible - Mike

Athena is a vga device and the hack is to make old non vga aware programs run fullscreen
making every pixel fill out 4 pixels
artemis is a qvga device only hack it could do with vga would be to omit every other pixel
resulting it well still beig a qvga device
lcd's pixels are a spc size unlike old crt where the size of the phosper being bomb'd by the electron beam and be adjusted
lcd's cant ever make it's 320x240 display more info then 320 rows and 240 columns of colours

There is a program called ozVGA that was used for that purpose I think. I used it on my old HP Ipaq rx3715 and it worked partially. It made the fonts smaller, harder to read and a little blurry. I think in IE I could see more and that was the reason I was using it. But since there are Browsers with zoom functions I had no use for this program any more.
Be sure to make a backup before you use this tool. It messes heavily with the registry. If you aren't an expert you won't get around a hard reset if you fail.

Abt The Zoom Browser
I asked this exactly for watching bigger piece of web pages... So what browser do u thing should I use to have Zooming function.
Thanks in Advance

Opera Mini, Opera Mobile or Netfront.

i780 with Slingplayer issue

I found that the slingplayer ppc (1.6) is not compatable with Samsung i780
After streaming the video, it only playback in a small size windows and it can not scaler to fullscreen, at that moment i found the fullscreen button on slingplayer taskbar was gray.
I think the problem is cause by the player didn't support 320x320 resolution.
I tried 96dpi and 128dpi but some problem was occue.
I would like to know if there any software can force to set the i780 to 240x320 or 320x240.
Thanks

WM6.5 and Background wallpaper question.

Hey
wanted to know if the WM6.5 allows you to use full res and quality wallpaper?
not like on the regular HD wallpaper that shows only 512X512...
tnx =]
WM 6.5 allows you to use full screen images and they are crystal clear.

It's not WinMo that's causing the problem with Touch HD background wallpapers, it's Touch Flo 3D.
So, if you would disable TF3D you could probably get nice quality with WinMo 6.1.
I have been digging around this issue and I do have a solution to get full resolution wallpapers with TF3D. Unfortunately, this process now requires a lot of messing around with Manila files, so it might not be for everyone. But I'm thinking about publishing my custom Manila wallpaper files, which basically require simply copy+paste into Windows directory and then restarting TF3D.

That would be great.
I hate how the quality is degraded once you set the Wallpaper.
There is so much difference in quality when viewing a picture in "albums" as opposed to the home screen wallpaper.
I wonder why TF3D lowers the resolution on the home screen.
Please publish a solution. thanks

I actually started a thread in General > Dev and Hacking about this very issue. It didn't get a lot of attention from people with Touch HD's, but none the less, I managed to get down to the bottom of the mysterious TF3D behavior and I can see that the info from that thread got to the people working on visual enhancements for Touch HD.
Basically, it's insanely stupid solution some lazy HTC programmer implemented.
Imagine that TF3D can display images that have maximum size of 512x512. Now imagine you have screen size that's 480x696 pixels (this is how big the wallpapers are). See the problem? The maximum image you can use is 184 pixels short to cover the whole screen.
And then you get a genius idea to use two 512x512 images to cover the screen area and allow full resolution wallpapers to be used. So you take the default HTC wallpaper, split it in two parts, align them perfectly on the screen so it looks as if they're one image - and problem solved!
Right?
Well, not quite. Yes, it will work for default background image, but what about custom wallpapers? Well, they were too lazy to make an automatized script that would split the images in two and align them on the screen.
Instead, they opt for a more convenient solution in form of taking custom wallpapers, shrinking them down into a single 512x512 box and then stretching this downsampled image back to 480x696 area.
And that's whats causing all these problems.
If you want a temporary solution, create 512x512 image - I bet it will look sharper then your 480x800 image.
A true solution is to cheat TF3D and import manually FOUR separate images that together form portrait and landscape wallpapers.
This can be done, and I will explain it in a separate post here when I get some free time. At the moment I'm too busy with FingerKeyboard
Wow, Rozenthal! That would be very interesting! It´s almost a dream I have: to see a quite sharp image on my TF3D Home screen.
A lot of people would be very glad with you if you teach us how to do this.
Thanks a lot in advance
It's not a dream I have it on my screen now...
The problem is in the fact that changing skins cannot be done through Settings tab. It requires editing the appropriate Manila files by using a Manila graphic editor on your PC. Also, this is something that will require at least moderate knowledge of some good graphic editing software (read: Photoshop), because you need to manually prepare split png files for portrait and landscape.
Then you take these files, load them into Manila files, compress them into a special TF3D graphic format, copy them to Windows directory overwriting the old files, turn off TF3D and then pick "Use default wallpaper" in your Settings / Wallpaper tab.
So, it's major pain in the a$$, and it's not something you would be doing on the road, or every day. But, as I said - it CAN be done.
The way I see it, we could probably get some users here to team up, learn the procedure and then simply offer zip-ed Manila files that other people can download and copy into Windows folder. That part is easy, it can be done by anyone. Preparing the wallpapers, however, isn't that simple.
Anyway, I will try to make a tutorial on how to do all this tomorrow.
In the mean time, you can check the thread I mentioned earlier. Altough, be warned that some of the final conclusion posts from that thread were lost during last sunday hack attack on XDA.

[APP] Avermedia PDAViewer not realy good on WVGA

Hi,
I just tryed my pda software to see all my video security cam in my house and my office.
And the bad news is the screen on the Touch HD because is in WVGA
Before i used it on diamond and it worked realy fine.

I'll try to put a picture of my touch HD with this problem soon
Ps: at the same time i'm looking for convert it to an .cab installation.
Thanks for your help
search in this forum for wvgafix3, it will change the resolution of your display to standard VGA. You will have an additional black bar on bottom (it will still be larger than the diamond's one, though)

Can TP2 480x800 screen display old QVGA apps?

I currently have an HTC Touch Pro (version 1) that displays in QVGA and VGA mode. I have numerous shareware apps that I have bought over the years that I greatly value; they all display in QVGA (240x320) mode. Those apps correspond to the era of Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.1. As such, all the apps display perfectly on the Touch Pro; that is, the programs occupy the entire screen properly.
I am considering to upgrade to an HTC TP-2 (version 2) which has a 480x800 screen. This would be a ATT TILT 2 on Rogers, with the native WinMo 6.1 - or probably won't upgrade later to 6.5 I am curious how my legacy apps will display on this screen.
1) Will my old apps stretch to fully occupy the 480x800? or
2) Would the apps leave a blank strip above or below?
3) Are there any popular shareware apps that are known to not fit this screen properly?
4) If an app fits in portrait mode, then will it always rotate properly to fully fit landscape mode?
Thanks in advance ...

1) some might. It depends on the app
2) some will. PTVL (pocket tv listings) leaves a blank strip (sometimes filled with remnants of the previously viewed app) by default unless you reskin it for other resolutions. Sadly, not all apps made to run on lower resolutions will have a skinning option
4) not always.
I asked some similar questions before I bought my TP2. I received similar answers, and my experience so far has confirmed them. I'm sorry the answers aren't more definite.
Your ATT tilt2 will come with Windows 6.5 right out of the box. I am currently running one on Rogers as well and it works fine.

i780: 96 DPI vs 128 DPI - Weapon of Choice

Hello to all, who can not decide yet, what DPI is better: 96 or 128.
I did two series of shots, identical with screen contents, one series with WM 6.5 build 23540 128 DPI, and second with WM 6.5 build 23544 96 DPI.
Build numbers means almost nothing in context of DPI, differs only picture#35 because of different comms managers cooked in ROMs.
So look side by side and decide, what is good or evil
My opinion is what screen of i780 is not big enough for WM 6.5. On some pictures, for example: 40, 41, you can see nasty example of UI at native 128 DPI in WM 6.5.
On the other side, 96 DPI is small... it is readable, but too small to be happy.
File located on FTP server in Riga, Latvia. Filesize is 19,069,371 bytes.
DPI_Test_SGH-i780.zip
Is not good is not bad.
I like higher resolution graphics on 128 dpi but it fits for me at 96.
i LIKE the 96 DPI !!!!!
i use the 128dpi 28232build now.
Caveat Emptor
I like 96DPI also, if ROM build does not contain any artifacts, but what i must to feel, when I installed very good-looking and useful program like Shopping List v3.10 and can see on screen only 2 items from list at once?
I say - I need to buy Samsung i8000 or HTC HD2. This solve such problem.
Or I need to pray, what somebody will port all useful programs to 96DPI for i780 square screen. Am I right?
P.S. LOL! On first screenshot there is one more tab, which does not fit screen at all - Go Shopping!, so I'm even unable to start shopping.... Definitely, I need "Go Shopping" new phone
Little bit offtopic:
Why are the objects on the display bigger in 128dpi as in 96dpi?
Afaik the objects in 128dpi has to be smaller then the 96dpi
e.g. the symbols on 800x600 are smaller the in 640x480.
