Rapimgr.exe captures 100% of PC whem MDA c.III connected. - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Hi.
I have an MDA compact III with WM6.
On my PC (Dell Precision M20) I have WinXP Pro, Ofice XP Pro, ActiveSync 4.5.0 (build 5096).
When I connect the MDA via USB, I see a new network connection being established. Howevers, I have a regular GSM contrat, no GPRS, EDGE, nothing.
The PC slows down a lot, synch takes a few MINUTES and after a while it disconnects.
The processor remains captured at 99% by rapimgr.exe even if I physically disconnet the MDA.
The only way to reset the situation is to reboot the PC.
Is there someone out there that may have a clue to what's happening?
Help... I'm desperate!...
Gyc

The last time I had such an error was when I had WM 2003, I had to reinstall Active Sync and the USB driver from my mainboard. Maybe that helps.

Already reinstalled (uninstall+install) AS4.5 several times. Each time it updates USB drivers. No luck!
I have Kerio Personal Firewall 4.0 installed.
Added a rule for rapimgr.exe; tried with Kerio disable - no luck...
Is there any news of incompatibility so that it may be enough to have it installed? (I'd prefer not having to uninstall & reinstall Kerio to try... )
Help...

this is an absolute long shot, i am a complete novice, i know it's probably completely unrelated but if your desperate might be worth a go - seeing that no-one else has any suggestions...
with wm5 i had issues connecting with 'advanced network options' checked on the ppc (settings\connections tab\usb to pc) it just hung for ages, don't know about the rapimgr.exe.
have you tried unchecking this box?
(again i am a novice so please don't shoot me down for an attempt to help, i know this is a daft super long shot)

Hey, for a long shot it looks like you've hit right on the spot.
Unchecking that option solved the problem. Now I don't have Rapimgr.exe hogging 99% of my cpu!!!
THANKS A LOT!!!!!

glad to hear it and be of service, no worries

you have to go to the menu Settings - Connections - USB connection - and "Deselect" Advanced mode (tested on MDA III Compact)

OK, thanks!!!

With the new i-Mate ROM my laptop doesn't want to connect my PPC.
It starts to connect, and it seems almost ok (I can surf between the folders of my PDA, but when I click StorageCard or ExtendedRom folders it starts thinking forever), but it just tries, never connects, never gives me a chance to make a partnership.
Does anybody know what is this problem?

One more thing:
With the same settings on PC but with an older ROM everything is fine.
Help!!!
My girlfriend has a XDA2i which has no problem syncing to the same PC. I get the same message you get " retrieving settings" which hangs for ever until I disconnect.
Another interesting thing in my discussion with myself:
Through IrDA everything works fine!!!!!
Why is that???,
Why it doesn't connect to my pda through USB???

It seemed ok, but the problem dissapeard just when I uninstalled the application.
I'm getting crazy...

Sounds to me like you diidn't have all the ports you needed open, if you happen to recall what ports you had open, and post them perhaps I could spot what you missed.
Can't really say I know anything about your firewall.

You may have right, but I opened ports which Microsoft said.
Do you know which ports are these?
The interesting is if you are right, why did work my other Jasjar or with another ROM??? Another ROM uses anorther PORTS???????
what was the resolution to this? I have exactly the same problem having just installed the ROM upgrade. What ports do you have enabled?

Internet Sharing and Vista

Hello, been using custel 2.5 for a while now, probably the day after it came out. Now I need to use internet sharing adn I`m not able to do it thru BT. When I pair my device I can do activesync just fine, but on Vistas BT manager (BT Devices) its not showing the dial-up device. This is strange it works fine with the USB connection, but I really need the BT. Please help. Thanks in advance.
BTW it used to work with wizard with WM6. Thanks
its not a dail up service to start off with its a PAN. second what BT stack are you using? I had the broadcomm stack first and that wouldnt work so i had to switch to the native MS stack and its works fine. If you know how to edit the bt.inf file on your vista machine that will install the MS stack instead of the other stack.

Maybe I dont even have to edit anything, maybe Im just having a senior moment thx for the reply
believe it or not if you use your handheld's help program and search for internet sharing it will give you instructions on how to set it up. and no it does not show up on vista as a dail up network since it is not also search this forum for Bluetooth PAN and there is lots of info
doh I never even looked at help on the phone thanks I see how to do it now I see that on the wizard they used the old wm5 modemlink or whatever its called. thanks again but plz try to be nicer to ppl next time

I noticed the speed decrease over PAN compared to the USB cable as well. I get way more fluctuations over BT. I am sticking to the USB but it is a nice fallback. Also, for me, Internet Sharing is a night and day difference over dial-up networking/modem driver. It is so easy. This feature is a WM6 gem!

Bluetooth is severely limited in Terms of speed, especially if you're not using Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

vista 64 bit
Hey Guys!
My first post with such a stupid problem:
i'm trying to connect to internet with vista 64bit using my hermes over usb. but it doesnt seem to work.
Until last week i had win xp sp3 on my pc and the internet sharing option in hermes worked without any problems. Now with Vista Ultimate 64 bit i can connect the phone to pc, sync works perfect.
when i start internet sharing, phone builds up a GPRS connection but after 2-3 sec it disconnects the data connection and active sync authentication starts with vista.
In vista i cant find any modem connection in network settings. The only thing i found was in device manager when phone is connected to pc (HTC USB Modem)
here is my spec :
- windows vista ultimate 64bit
- mobile device center 6.1
- Framework etc. is installed
my Hermes:
- HTC_HERMES_S64_WM_6.1_TouchFlo2D_UC_V3_WWE_02.10.2008
- SPL 2.10 olipro
- radio ver 1.54.30.10
i have re-installed the drivers and device center several times without success.
What the hell i forgot or what i'm doing wrong...
Are there any tools or drivers i should use?
My friend has a vista 32 bit system. with his pc its no prob...some rndis drivers installed itself and we began to surf.
But in my vista 64, i missed this rndis driver installation......
Please can someone help me, i'm so confused...
Try checking your firewall... maybe disable it to test and see if it works temporarily.
Alright, thank you i'll try it on monday when i'm in office...
Ive no i-net there so i must be prepared, so are there any specific drivers or something i need to download? Or is device center enough?
Close Firewall doesnt really work...
Yesterday, i had a connection for one time...
In Device Manager, there was a "Remote ndis based Internet sharing device"
and internet worked...Today nothing works...
What have I to do in Vista? Should I deactivate some processes like wcescomm.exe? When I do this, It automatically restarts when Internet Sharing connection breaks down.
Could someone explain step by step how to get Internet Sharing work (Steps, Tools, Programs, Drivers)?!?
Thanks guys!
Same Problem
I am having the same exact problem.....
I HAD windows xp sp2 and everything worked fine once activesync was installed.....
I HAVE windows vista 64 bit and the device under the device manages show that its not working... it instals the RNDIS (whatever) drivers but dose not work...
I TRYed windows vista 32 bit, everything works fine..... the device conects with no problems...
SO the problem is that its VISTA 64bit so what would be causing this ???
btw my phone is a WM6 8525 from ATT with Internet Sharing
I need the internet sharing option when im at HomeHome and not at school, so im thinking about taking my laptop back to office depot!
So glad im not alone...
In meantime, in arranged with the prob... I think no one knows a solution...

Can't connect with activesync anymore

Hi,
I've got a weird problem with my MDA compact III (T-mobile Netherlands, original ROM).
For some reason I don't know the active sync doesn't seem to identify the phone anymore.
I know there are a lot of problems with active sync and I've read and searched a lot of those threads but I can't solve my problem.
Active sync always ends up with the message that there is no phone connected whereas it is.
I tried different versions of active sync and different PC's (WIN XP SP2), deleted partnerships both on the phone as well as in active sync, I changed the name of the phone which it uses to identify on connection.
No matter what I tried, nothing could solve this.
The only way for me to exchange data at this moment is using wm5torage and using CAB's to install.
Please help!!
PS: A hard reset is not an option since I need to continue with the tools and files that are currently in the ROM.
Thanks in advance

Ok ... I have seen your problem many times and yes there are many other threads on it . But lets see since im woke if I canhelp you crack this little apple . 1st what you mean by you can't hard reset you need to continue wuith tools . 2nd when the phone is connected to your computer does it charge ? Do you see it connect in the device manager ? 3rd of you plug your phone to the charger does it charge as well.
Now if these question are yes then 1st I would say reboot your computer and soift reset phone ... If that doesnt solve the problem then we will goto next step.
I have a similar problem :
facts :
1. the usb cable charge the battery correctly.
2. The Headphones and mic are working well.
3. No data connection ( both activesync and WM5Storage )
4. Back from long journey using as navigator so the car holder and the car charger my have damaged the data pins ?
5. Reinstalled activesync on the PC , tried different PC, tried different Usb Cable, soft resetted an hard resetted the device but no success.
Please give me some suggestions before going to repairing service.
Thanks

Hi PURESKILLZZZ,
Many thanks for taking you time to read my explanation.
Let me give you some answers:
1.) The reason for me is that in case of a hardreset I need to install all applications again. Actually I've been doing a hard reset and then afterwards restored a backup I created with spb backup. Unfortunately the problem was still there.
2.) Yes the phone charges when connected through USB (so it's not the connector that is faulty I guess).
The device manager I need to checkout didn't lok at that yet.
When I connect using wm5torage I can see the SD card in the explorer.
3.) The phone charges when connected to the charger.
So I guess the answer is yes to all your questions.
If you have more questions to be able to help me please let me know.
I'd like to tackle this problem.
Thanks in advance

I believe it is safe to say your present software is the issue and have you tried sktools for dong the back up .

i don't think so because i have no wm5torage connections so in my case i think is an hardware issue like data pins damaged ....
1 other thought ... A simple fix whichh may work . goto comm manager on your phone and click activeSync and see if that helps .

Did you jam the charger in the phone at anytime or did the phone drop while connected to charger . Just being connected for long periods of time dont hurt as I have ran my phone for over 24 hours connected to power while playing the radio thru the phone.
Unfortunately none of the suggestions worked for me.
It's not related to dropping the phone or taking hardware damage by faulty use or something.
This I know for sure since I own this phone only for a couple of weeks and didn't harm it in any way.
My conclusion also was that it must be software related, that's why I started this thread anyway.
Therefore I'm looking for suggestions/hints on the software side (most probably the problem would be on the phone and not on the PC, but what is it?........)

Ok .. Lets chase the possible software issues . What rom are you running and what have you installed ?
1 last note before I go take a power nap . You can check your activesync setting on the phone . goto => Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC. Change the mode of the box next to Enable advance Network functionality. click ok .. Now try to connect ... The box is suppose to have a check in it but sometimes there are other reasons why it doesnt worj the defaukt way . I hope I have been of some assistance to you.
Similar issue
I had this same issue recently I thought it may be due to upgrading to activsync 4.5.
But it seemed not to make much difference when I attempted to work it on another pc using activsync.
The problem only occured after I had been using pocket mechanic to delete files and free up dead registry files.
I didn't want to do a hard reset straight away so instead I restored an older backup from before the issue started & since then the problem has been resolved.
So I guess the question is do you have an older backup than the one you have tried if so try it & see. Other than that a hard reset may well sort the issue?
Hope this helps, and serves as a warning to others don't delete certain reg keys even if a program (pocket mechanic) stated them to be empty or redundant unless you have a backup to restore when things go wrong!

I have the same problem although my mda compact III (T-Mobile) is pretty new! Would it help to
a) install activesync 4.5 (I currently use 4.2)
b) to debrand it
Hope there is a simple solution... and many thanks in advance for it!!!
I had a similar problem, are you guys using a firewall? if so you may need to open a port or what I do is temporarily deactivate my firewall when I connect my orbit to my pc.
Hope that helps.

Problems with ActiveSync 4.5 following upgrade to WM6

I've noticed that since upgrading to WM6, ActiveSync 4.5 has been playing up. Since the upgrade, I no longer have the small 'disconnect' icon in the bottom right of the Today screen.
Then, the computer and phone just stopped talking to each other. I tried soft-resets of the phone, uninstalling/reinstalling ActiveSync, tried repairing AS. I've since deleted the mobile devices from AS but now cannot re-add them because there is no connection. However, I am still able to charge my phone via the USB cable but there is no synchronisation going on
In fact, all my contacts and calendar appointments are gone from my phone. Luckily they are still on my PC (and I took a backup just in case).
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
I had the same problem on my 8525. Not sure if it'll fix your, but it fixed mine. Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC, then I unchecked "enable advanced network functionality"
thanks GReddySetGO - something must have worked 'cos i can connect to my phone again!
Thanks you saved my life too !!!
wonderful eolenet! i'm glad this has helped others too
and now the little 'disconnect' icon in the bottom right of the Today screen appears too now!
big thanks again GReddySetGO

ActiveSync issues

Ok so my phone will only randomly sync using ActiveSync 4.5.
Most of the time it says its an unknow device. I also notice when I install the drivers, it registers as a Generic Windows Mobile Device.
Any fix for this?
Not a fix, but a work around. The general panacea for ActiveStink problems is to go to Settings> Connections> USB to PC> and uncheck Use Advanced Network.
What that does, as far as I am able to tell, is to switch to the old way of connecting the PPC to the PC.
Having a different issue with Activesync on my 8525 (Hermes100) since upgrade to WM6.. error reports "change on server" forcing a complete re-sync with Outlook; all "custom" settings, pictures, ID ringtones, etc. from the phone are lost... Get's frustrating as it takes time to re-config... it will go 1 or 2 weeks fine, and then without warning this message comes up, have not made any changes on the PC or config that would trigger this as far as I know... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
