Hi all,
I have a motoQ w/ WM5 and I use hotmail. Pocket msn really sucks.
I installed windows live through an .exe file and it worked perfect for one week.
Suddently, the program started to fail to syncronize with my hotmail account.
I decided to do a master reset in my phone and install the program again to try to solve the problem.
The problem is that now, when I try to install the Windows Live, I get a message that the installation of the *.cab was unsuccesful.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you.

Got an MDA pro and miss MSN badly at work, so I bought the retail MSN mobile.
When I go to install it I get the error of " No Windows Mobile or Smartphone device is connected via ActiveSync", blah blah, ensure device is connected, try again...
It is connected, synced, icon is green and I can explore device from dekstop.
Opening the install exe with WinRAR doesn't yield any .cab files I could just run on the device, and I have done the activation thing of MSN Mobile as well.
I have AS 4.0 (didn't work on 4.1 before you say - I went back to see if it would work on the 'official' AS), MDA Pro, Win XP, USB connection.
Help! Need my fix of MSN and my hotmail account back.
Imate update rom
Why don't you install the imate rom it contains the free version of MSN
Joe:
I installed the jasjar rom on my MDApro and skipped the extended rom install by softresetting my ppc right after a hard reset so it will not install the extended rom files. after that I installed the Signed_UNI_TMONL_Conn_112101 cab from my old extended rom from the MDA the have the gprs settings.
Now I have a fast working MDA pro with MSN and if you want You can install SKype from the extend rom the you uploaded yourself
Good luck

It was something to do with my old PC I use for programs; it's XP SP1 and my games PC let it install fine which is an updated SP2+ XP machine.
Thanks for the suggestions; when I have the confidence, I will do the full upgrade to WWE.[/b]

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend.
He's got an XDA IIs with no mods/upgrades done, and has Activesync installed (whichever version cam with the device). When connected he can sync and browse the device but can't install any software. Every time the install program tries to communicate with the device a window appears (tall thin window) then disappears immediately with no error.
This happens with everything he tries to install. We've tried removing and re-instaling activesync but it's made no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
Cheers,
Matt
Have you tried creating a new partnership with the device through activesync and hardresetting the device?
Does re-installing Activesync not create a new partnership anyway?
I think he's a bit dubious about hard-resetting it, but I'll mention it.
Could it be anything else?
I have this problem too. MDA III with imate 1.40rom and 1.12 radio. Reinstalled activesync and even reflashed rom but the add/remove window just flashes on screen for a second then disappears. I hope someone here knows how to fix this. I'ts been driving me nuts!
sorry but......bump!
Could it be Firewall problem?! Get off Internet connection, disable Firewall and connect...
Good luck (just saw the light today having simular problem)

ooh I have same problem the Programs wont get removed is just says ( the program is not completly removed) and the program wont get deleted????
any ideas???
Cab files!?
What about installing the programs by putting the *.cab files directly onto the BA and running them there?
Most installers will install the cabs to the Microsoft Activesync/App name, or Program Files/App Name folder if there is no PDA connected - ready to try installing next time! Just copy them and put them on manually.
Or you could try Universal Extractor to open the *.exe's and get to the cabs.
Not a solution, as such, I know but, it at least gets your apps onto the BA in question until you find the solution!!

Hi All.
I have a problem with MS ActiveSync that's driving me mad.
I have Windows 2000 loaded on my work laptop (not my choice but my IT departments) and I'm currently using ActiveSync 4.2 - A couple of weeks ago I loaded one of the latest WM6 roms onto my HTC TYTN with no problems at all - I was very impressed with the basic enhancements and especially the fact that I could at long last recieve a text message notification for voicemail (I'kme easily pleased I know) - So now to my problem.
I tried to connect my TYTN to my laptop to load my BB Connect profile when I got a message that I need to upgrade ActiveSync to 4.5 ???? So, not concerned at this point I download the latest MSI package and started to install ActiveSync 4.5 on my Windows 2000 system... but.... towards the end of the install I got an error message telling me that I cant install ActiveSync because I am missing some DLL files (it doesnt specify which .dll files???)
I've searched everywhere for help resolving this problem but to know avail? So I have 3 questions?
1. Is there a known issue with ActiveSync 4.5 and Windows 2000? If so is there a fix for this?
2. Is there a viable alternative to MS ActiveSync that will work with WM6?
3. Is there a way of Syncing my BB Connect settings with my TYTN without using AciveSync.
Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere on the forum - any help at all would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks.
One quick google search has given me this post. Give that a go and see what happens?
MAPI32.dll issue...
My wife had a similar issue which was either the mapi32.dll problem or just a fubar ActiveSync. I ran the fixmapi as well as removed most if not all traces of the old ActiveSync (Program Files and registry)
Hope this helps...
FixMapi
Thanks DBaser and MrVanx - I've already tried the FixMapi option but with no success - will try again followed by a sweep to remove any traces of a previous ActiveSync install before re-installing - I'll let you know how I get on.
Sigh....
OK - Tried running FixMapi.exe once again having completely uninstalled ActiveSync 4.2 and deleted the directories from the programmes directory and still I get the same error message? HHEEEeeeeelllppppp.....!!!!! This is driving me mad.... How about just getting the BB Connect settings accross to my TYTN without having ActiveSync installed???? Any Idea's?
Have you tried reinstalling the ActiveSync that came with your PDa and then run the 4.5 installer?
Give that a go...
VM6 requires Active Sync 4.5
Tried all of the above - still no joy!
Can you post a screenshot of the error message and also maybe check the Event Viewer (Start>Run>eventvwr) for Application or System errors that could help me diagnose further?

I am aware of this. I was asking the OP to install earlier ActiveSync and then run the 4.5 installer.
try hard resetting....then before doing ANYTHING, sync...follow the sync directions....make sure a new device name is synced with pc and device.......many go-arounds were finally solved by this.

rockky, go back and reread the thread. THis has nothing do do with the PPC. he is trying to install software on the PC.
Still Trying....
All. Thanks for the input so far - if anyone comes up with any more suggestions then please let me know!
I'll keep at it and if I find a solution will add the details to the post.
My IT dept are pretty snowed under as with those in many companies and so my little problem with a missing dll when trying to install a peice of software that has little or no benefit to the company is way way down the priority list.
Thanks again.
More Pain....
So... a short update.. I managed to convince my IT department to upgrade my system to windows XP (SP1 though as SP2 isnt yet supported by them) and guess what happens????
I eagerly await the arival of my new laptop - I get it today - boot it up - go straight to the microsoft website - download the activesync msi file..... hit the install button - and then..... and then I get the missing dll file error...
This is driving me mad? I'm presuming its a 'corporate' image problem or a specific peice of software installed on our laptops thats the issue? Are others having the same problem? and is there anyone out there who has found a working solution? or am I going to have to wait for another release from microsoft and hope that installs?
Alternatively - is there a way of setting up my blackberry connect settings without using active sync??? Can they be exported some other way? from tytn to tytn for example (Yes - I'm lucky enough to have two!)
As ever - any help is appreciated.....
Ok, I updated my Dash to WM 6.1 original ROM version and realised that I could not sync contacts. I kept trying so bad till I realised that there was no outlook in the phone. Please my contacts are messed up and I am trying to arrange them with outlook and sync it back to the phone but OUtlook just doesnt detect the phone. It worked once and since then, it won't sync with the contacts on the phone. Please what am I doing wrong. I want to sync my contacts with outlook, please how do I do this? Please
please Help Help Help
do a windows update.... I know it sounds stupid but it worked for me. When you connect your phone, the "auto play" options come up but the your sync/mobile center (depending if you use vista or xp) will not show up. After you do windows update you'll see a mobile netowrk update... should be ok after that
No Luck
I tried that and still no luck, it still says failure to sync all my 60 contacts. I just don't know what to do. I though that the Dash had outlook installed. I guess I will have to do all these manually. I am so angry...
Anyone know how I can install outlook on this thing?
PLEASE
I also had this problem. What I did to fix it is delete the relationship between your device and pc by going to File in ActiveSync on the pc. Then plugged my dash back into the computer and it start the setup wizard. When it asks what do you want to sync, uncheck everything. Finish the wizard and the device will sync. Once its done, go to Tools>Options and check only Contacts and resync. It should work now. You can go back and check all the other things now in options for what else you want to sync. Hope this works for you.
Hello, Im having issues syncing wm6. I have an Ipaq which syncs on all three of my windows vista pcs no problem. My WM6 p4000 telus will not sync with any of my pcs. There is no error "code", only "sync error" Ive tried reinstalling wm6, the bootloader cant sync with device either. I can see the p4000 on My Computer. Im unable to copy or delete the files on my p4000. I spoken to tech support at HTC with no success. My P4000 is working perfectly. I really wanted to try the GPS thread.
