Hi all,
I have just bought an HTC S620 and have been able to setup Activesync to an exchange server with no issues. I use alot of subfolders under my inbox to filter emails. I am receiving new emails no problem in my inbox and in the subfolders synched happily to my device.
I am only getting new email notifications on my home screen when emails arrive to my inbox. I would like to be able to see email notifications when they arrive in my subfolders.
I have a HTC S620
Running Windows Mobile Standard CE 05.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2)
Do I need to tweak a setting or acquire an app?
I had this problem too but how I got round was to delete all of the server filters and use the newer technique of smart folders. Im using OS X and Mail.app, but I think the new Outlook on windows should have smart folders too. With smart folders all of your mail is in the inbox but when you click on a smart folder its like a saved search so for example it can show all of the email from a certain sender.
This also makes it much easier to read email on the phone, because all of the email goes into the inbox you both have the advantage of seeing the new email notification, and you don't need to jump between folders to read it all, which can take many key presses.
You can of course still have regular mail folders for email that can't be automatically sorted.
By the way, general questions like this go in the general smartphone forum
Ah i thought i was beign device specific enough.
Exchange 2003 I am using is for work and they dont use/implement smart folders/
Anyone else have any ideas? i have the same problem, and my comany's mail server also doesnt support "smart folders".
TIA
Hi,
I am running Ricky's v24 WM 6.1. I use EasySync to sync with my Lotus Notes contact, calendar, todo, and email. Everyday, i get this alert from "DontForget" indicating that I have 26 unread email. The email reader in the sliding panel indicates 0 mail.
I'd imagine Outlook email downloaded via ActiveSync would be in similar situation, in case you don't use Notes.
Any suggestions on what I can use to read, or just get rid of the email downloaded via sync? I've changed the EasySync setting so it no longer downloads email.
Many thanks!
the sliding panel will show you how many new emails you have. Once you acces the email page that will disappear; this does not mean you have read all the emails. You may have unread emails in your folder and that may cause "Don't forget" to give you a message. Look through all your emails and look for the ones that show that they havent been read.
Hopefully that helps.
what application can I use to read the email?

Thank you for the reply! The problem is, I don't know what application I can use to read the email. I normally rely on the sliding panel to take me to the email application, but in this case, it only tells me the there is no MMS message. Any suggestions on which program to run? Or where is the folder?
thanks, again!
if you can get to SMS or MMS just move the D pad to the right or left till it shows emails.

I've had this problem before, where one of my options in my sliding panels is inaccessible. Try restarting the phone and see if e-mail is accessible after that.
Does any software to sync Lotus Notes with WM6.1
I am seriously considering buying the HTC Touch Diamond, which runs on WM6.1. My company uses Lotus Notes. It is a show stopper if I can't see my email on this device. When I talked to Easy Sync yesterday, they tried to get me to buy something to load on my server at work, which obviously is not the same as the basic Easy Sync software. M-Notes doesn't seem to have anything either. Any other suggestions?

there is an app called mnotes made by commontime. there is a trial version of it so you can try before you buy. i dont think on the server side you need additional software. if you dont have a phone with 6.1, all i can suggest is to find a buddy that does and let him test it on your lotus server. the software does run on wm6, so im pretty certain it wont be an issue on 6.1. i realize im a complete stranger, but if all else fails, let me know and i can test it against your server.
Hi,
Im havin problems syncing my hotmail account through the windows live program - it syncs contacts and the inbox perfectly and get all the info - but it does not sync all my other folders.
I like to put my emails into different folder (e.g. University, Ebay, Play.com, Family etc etc) so I keep myself organised. The thing is if I want a file that a friend sent me two weeks ago and I put it in the University folder I cannot get to it and would have to transfer it before hand from my pc to my inbox. (ie the mails inside my other folder are not being synced)
Is there any way I can solve this? Maybe some setting I missed or an update to WMLive that fixes this?
Thanks to anyone for his help
JP
Hi,
I'm facing the same problem but haven't found a solution yet... :'(
In you inbox screen tap menu in the bottom right and then extra. There should be an option manage folders i think. I dont know exactly because my phone is not english. It is the second option in the extra menu. You can just check the boxes of the folders you want synchronized.
yes its called manage folders
thanks a lot
also, not sure if it interests you or if it even answers the issue but hotmail's mobile website looks fantastic on the Opera browser...
My main email is on AOL and I've just ditched the buggy email client for AOL's wap portal...
give it a try!
Can someone explain to me the purpose of Outlook on the TP2? And how exactly does it differ from just setting up my own POP3 email? What benefit is gained from setting up my email as Outlook instead of as regular email? I'm just not getting this.
Either way, Windows Mobile uses Outlook Mobile to show email, no matter which option you choose. Much like Excel will show spreadsheets, Outlook is the program responsible for handling emails...
In this case I believe "Outlook Email" refers to Exchange Email. Exchange is a Microsoft Server product that integrates with the Mobile and Desktop versions of Outlook.
it also allows for calendar synchronization as well...
This is a holdover from the old days of the Pocket PC. Before Windows Mobile was running on phones, it was used on PDAs. The Outlook option in email allowed you to sync your email with your PC's outlook when connected with ActiveSync. When you synced your Pocket PC, your Outlook emails on your PC would get sent to the Outlook folder on your mobile device. Likewise, any emails you composed on your PDA would get sent to your PCs Outbox and sent out.
Nowadays, though, it's pretty useless since we all receive email directly on the device instead of by syncing with a PC. I wish I could get rid of it. In other words, there really is no good use for it now, just ignore it.

If you are referring to the Outlook account inside the WM email program, that is used to synchronize your WM emails with MS Outlook on the desktop PC. That way when you connect via activesync, your phone will download all emails from your desktop outlook account. I have never used this feature.
However, your WM calendar is also synchronized with the desktop MS Outlook, which is a feature I use a lot.

It's not just for synchronizing with Outlook on a PC directly -- it also synchronizes with Exchange server.
Outlook on my TP2, with Activesync, synchronizes all my Outlook-type data (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and e-mail) with the same folders on my Exchange server.
I couldn't do this without Outlook (not interested in Gmail for important stuff -- too many false-positives in the spam folder), so it's not useless for me.
If you have a gmail account you can set up google sync through Active sync on your phone. It will push e-mails to your outlook inbox.
The level of ignorance on xda is growing. There was a time when a question like this would not be taken seriously, and most of the responses are ridiculous. Outlook is a client app. It rather seamlessly and natively handles synchronization of various kinds of data from either an exchange server (best option for pushing data) or POP3 or IMAP, etc. This data can include email, calendar, meeting requests, tasks, contacts, etc. I update information in one place and those changes are reflected on all my other devices instantly. That way all my devices have the same info, whether I'm at my desk, on OWA, on a pda or on my phone. Googlesync is a johnny-come-lately clone that tries to replicate the functionality of Outlook/exchange.

So is the percentage of assholes. Thanks for contributing.
The op is talking about the Outlook account that's listed amongst his other email accounts, I believe. I don't think he's talking about Outlook itself.

the outlook account IS the activesync/exchange account, although i agree its silly to have it listed if its not configured

This guy's post are never to be taken seriously -- unless you're into pointless snarkyness that contributes nothing to the thread (as if the choice of username and avatar weren't already a clue).
RE Ignorance: He obviously missed the point of the thread, which lsn't "Which is better: Outlook/Exchange or Google-syncing?"
Back when I was using a Dell PocketPC, I used the outlook email sync all the time. It was pretty convenient, considering the technology at the time. Nowadays, I don't sync Outlook email, as the op said, all that gets you is two email accounts with the same stuff in it. I still sync Outlooks contacts, calendar, task, notes.
As others have said, if you are syncing with an Exchange server, the Outlook email account could still be useful. I've never done, so for me and users like me the Outlook email account it is pretty useless, I wish I could make it disappear.

Actually, MCBrian, yours was one of the posts that made sense. My point was that this is basic information that has been repeated over and over again. I know when you grow, newbies will come, but reading is good! A quick search of this or any other winmo forum would have yielded the results the OP was looking for.
And, fwiw, if you check the OP's original question, how the conversation developed, and my response, you would see that I did not miss the point. But let the readers decide, homie.

Yeah, what's so hard about just answering the question? What difference does it make if the answer is already out there? I always find it amusing how ruffled some people get about this.

Yeah, that's why I modified my post. At first I thought he meant what was the outlook program, but he was talking about the outlook account in WM messaging.
FWIW, I've been using WM since WM 2003, about 8 years now, and I've never used an Exchange server. It just happened that the company I was at preferred to save money and outsource to a remote email program. I did activesync my desktop outlook emails for a while there, but now I've gone to Thunderbird (great search engine) for my work emails. I do still sync my calendar and contacts, but mostly as a backup to the phone.
Oops, getting old, my first PPC was before WM 2003, the original T-Mobile PPC Phone. Huge device!
Yes, in case there is any confusion still, I was talking about the Outlook email on my phone. I just don't get the point.
I synced my phone, got to back up all my contacts to my Outlook 2007. Wonderful, but I already back up with PIMbackup. Is there any other value? Immediate push email or anything? Or does all of that involve setting up an exchange server?
Thanks!

My best chuckle of the day. Thanks.
And my 2 cents. Some people (including me) ask questions to stimulate discussion. Maybe I know the exact answer to the question, but I want to hear or read others discuss it because I want to learn more about it. And BTW - the search on XDA leaves a lot to be desired.
hey there,
i'm pretty new to the dhd...and also android
my brother got an iphone 4 some days ago...
we both had a wm handset before and synced our email account from outlook with the device. it copied all the mails and so on.
but now we have the same problem: it seems that ios and android dont have that option. am i wrong?
i think the only option is imap, pop3 is not really working with htc sync..any advice?
thanks guys
DN41
The DHD comes with HTC Sync which supposely syncs with Outlook. This is what I wanted (for contacts and Calendar) but found there were problems with it (can't remember exactly what now). So I looked around and came to MyPhoneExplorer ... see ... http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ .... very useful forums there as well. Oh, and I see you're from Germany too so the website/forums will be even more useful to you!
I read/reply to email via the DHD but don't download my archived mails, my PC is used for that purpose, so haven't looked into a solution for that part of your query.
HTH
Dave
Ok thanks i take a look
but I think my only chance is IMAP...
