Hi, Recetly the 'Settings' window wont close, when i tap on the 'x', it just freezes, the rest of the phone works ok, but i cant get 'Settings' to close. i have to do a soft reset!
Anyone had this problem, or suggest a fix
Cheers
press the red phone button several times, it will come loose then.
yeh that 'minimises' it, but its still frozen in the background lol. the next time i go to open settings, its still frozen, until i do a soft reset...
I've had that problem. Absolutely no idea what causes it
I just press the red button and navigate to whatever else I want to do.........unless it is change settings in which case a soft reset is the only answer

True, happens here 2, but find it a minor problem, because you can do anything else and settings cannot be closed via the task manager (so does it influence the ram?)
SR is so easy and do it several times a day sometimes for clean ram (got it under a HW button )
But IF there is a solution, i am a little interested.
yeh, i usually SR for RAM anyway, its just annoying lol

My Touch Pro 2 kept reverting to the TouchFlo home screen within a couple of seconds of opening other applications (eg. click on a new email, and a second later it goes to TouchFlo. Soft resets didn't make any difference: nor did disabling TouchFlo (from the Settings/Today/Items menu) - it then just reverted to the Windows home screen instead. So I tried to hard reset the machine. I read that the way to do it is to hold send+end+power, but that didn't do anything. Some posts suggested that volume down+reset was the way to do it, so I tried that. I've now got a tricolour screen, which starts:
RHOD100 32M MI-BC
SPL-0.84.0000
A bit more searching suggests that this is the bootloader (?) screen that comes up when you want to flash a ROM, and I feel dangerously close to doing something expensive and irreversible. Any suggestions as to how to get out of this screen? Nothing obvious when I search the forums here. I was thinking of just taking out the battery. And any thoughts on how to hard reset - or how to stop deal with the original problem?
Thanks
You ain't going to mess anything up. You can flash a new rom from there though but there is no way to do it by accident. Don't you hard reset by holding down the green and red call buttons and soft reseting? I remember it being different from the Touch Pro 1.
you might head over to the rom section, read up on the "flashing your phone for the first time" thread. Answer is most likely in there.
Thanks for coming back so quickly guys. The ROM flashing thread didn't explain how to get out of the tricolour screen. Meanwhile I just took out the battery and that did the trick. I still couldn't hard reset using the send+end+power buttons as instructed here and in the manual. I was able to get to the Settings/System/Clear Storage menu and was eventually able to keep it open for long enough to enter "1234". That hasn't dealt with the original problem, though - switching back to TouchFlo after a couple of seconds in each application. It's also beeping incessantly. Any ideas?
It sounds like your device is registering a phantom End key press every couple of seconds. That would explain it popping you out to the home screen and the beeping. If your End key is indeed acting weird, that would also explain why you can't hard reset using the power+send+end key combination.
You should send it in for warranty replacement...

That makes a lot of sense, thanks. Now that you mention it I realise that it's the same kind of beep and the same result as the End key.
I've only had it for 2 months. I'll get on to HTC.
My phone backs up and resets overnight, and I woke up this morning to check email etc and noticed that the 4 hard keys on the front of the phone were all acting funny.. End key doesn't beep, send key didn't open the dialer, Okay button didn't close the current window.. then I found the PTT key didn't do anything either.. However, the Windows key DOES!
Hosed around for a while, launched AEButtonPlus to check it out, reset a few times, yanked the battery, etc.... Nothing. So I went back into AEButtonPlus to see what happens if I add a button and hit the Phone button and it pops up 00ED. Weird.. So I went looking into the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys entries, looks fine as far as I can tell... Got curious and launched the Buttons preference, looks okay in there, except strangely the last screen for holding the End button has *no* selection, normally it has the two radio options, with more radio options below the second one, none selected..
So then I exit back out of the Buttons apps and are hosing around and find the buttons are magically working again. Soft reset, etc, all is fine!?
AEButtonsPlus got confused?? Nope, at some point I removed it from Startup and soft reset, was the same. And now that it's working again, all my settings in it are fine.
I am using QuickMenu attached to the Win key, so perhaps why that kept working?
Very strange.. At least it's back now, and I (think?) I know a workaround if it happens again, launch the Buttons preference.
This ever happened to anyone else?

Yours fixed by launching the buttons setting? I don't know if that's what fixed it, but it seems like it went away after that, perhaps a few more soft resets.
since the gingerbread update the hardware keyboard of my desire z is unusable.
there are some keys that do strange things when I press them, I have not changed any settings since the update.
I'm talking about this:
when I press "G" my phone automatically goes to gmail
when I press "S" my phone goes to my messages
when I press "B" it goes to my browser
I tought about shortcuts but in the menu there I can't see any shortcuts dedicated to this keys.
anybody an idea how to fix?
other people having the same problem?
I've ran into this a couple of times as well, as far as I know it's supposed to be a feature rather than a bug. Try pressing "FN" and then "SYM" and go back to composing your message, this usually fixes things for me.
As this has been answered a bunch of times....
Settings -> Applications -> Quick launch.
Remove every shortcut and you're done

While that does address the issue at hand, my question is how did they get activated, I never had this problem before i updated to 2.3.3.
I have no idea either. The quick launch settings are there when you first flash a rom. The strange thing is they go crazy and start working without the need to press the "search" button on the keyboard...
I have been on CM7 for the longest time and haven't updated to a newer nightlies for a the past couple of weeks, but I am having the same issue.
UPDATE:
Tried pressing the search button on the keyboard a couple times and it is now working fine. I guess the search button was "stuck"? Funny because I never used the button before.
For some reason, I've got a strange bug on my HTC One that causes random apps to do the strange behavior seen in the attachment. I talked to the developer of the app, then realized occasionally the stock HTC apps like gallery and calendar menus would do this too, as well as the old Quora app which would almost always have every menu option after hitting a button to open a menu have nothing but ... on each menu option. Sometimes a letter or two would survive, like "Pr..." or "M..." but I chalked it up to Quora being buggy. New Quora doesn't have this problem. Thinking further, the older version of Sleep as Android and SleepStats would do this with the menus too, before they had the options in the left drawer. Once again, no screenshot of this.
However, this issue only occurs in portrait mode, not landscape. It seems to happen on apps that have a similar feel to their UI, with a menu button in the upper right. Sorry I don't have more information, I should have taken more screenshots.

if you're 100% stock and this is happening, you might need to do a factory reset.
Reboot to bootloader (hold down power for approx 10-15secs and when screen shuts off hold down the vol down button also). Use volume keys to select "recovery" press power button to select recovery. When in recovery, select wipe cache and then reboot. If this doesn't work, you might need a factory reset, which will clear data partition. All apps, texts, etc will be reset to factory defaults and should be like almost just out of box condition.
Edit: to back up your data while not being rooted, look up PC apps like "Mobile Go" to back everything up to your PC.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Free mobile app
So I activated Universal Switch on S6 Edge to check it out, something went wrong in the settings (long story short, got a pop up while setting it up), now screen unresponsive.
It works, I just get this blue horizontal line scanning the screen and nothing else but the power button and home button works. Tried safe mode, no bueno. How can I disable US feature without resetting to factory or at least no data wipe (if possible!)?
Android 5.0, rooted with pingpong, no custom recovery, knox 0x0.
All help is appreciated.

Fixed!
The way I had fixed this is by holding down the power button, both up and down sound buttons, and the home button until it restarted. When the device turned back on it gave the option to turn the setting off. Hope it helped!

Hi,
I have been struggling with Universal Switch on a Samsung S5 Neo. I switched it on, but was never able to switch it off again.
These are findings so far:
-> Did a factory reset using "Sound Up", "Home" and "Power" button simultaneous.
-> The device comes back and wants to configure itself again.
-> I restored my settings from Google, but this immediately brought back "Universal Switch"
-> Factory Reset again and configured the device, but told Google that I want to use it as a "New Device".
-> Now I can use my device in a proper way.
-> In Google Play Store I find all my Apps which were linked to my account and reinstalled them and I am back in business again.
-> Took me half a day to sort this out.
The programmer who designed and programmed this should be hung and shot and poisoned, because this is absolute Crapware.
Hope this helps for all the others who are suffering.
You can also push the home button three times and it should turn it off.
thank u ur the best
Ok, so i have exactly the same problem except my home button doesn't work
Anyone one know how to sort this without having to take it in to a store?
I was faced with this problem before and looked everywhere and couldnt find a fix. This was a while ago. So I dont remember what I did to clear it. I was cleaning off the screen and touched the home button as I was wiping it off and the problem began again.... I just came across your comment because all the others failed. I pressed the home button 3 times quickly and the blue lines stopped scrolling. In addition, I went over the accessibility and I turned off the "Universal Switch" option as much as the option allows. I hate this function. I do not use it or need it (for my needs). I hope I can remember what to do next time this happens. I swore to myself I would remember last time, but apparently that wasnt a guarantee. This time, I will write it down and put is somewhere I know I will find it next time I see these nefarious blue lines scrolling. Hopefully I wont see it again since I disabled it more than it was to begin with. Thank you ever so for commenting. You saved me a lot of frustration!
great fix
