IE just won't connect... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi there, first post from me.
Great forum here found it really helpful over the last few weeks.
I've become a little stuck with my connections recently. I managed to flash my phone with the WM6 upgrade when I first got it and all was good, 4GB Micro Card, TomTom 6 all working with GPS etc. However, I tried to upload some corrupted maps for TomTOm and had to Hard reset my phone.
Now, since this I've had grief with my connections. I've finally managed to get these working again and I can connect to Windows Live and download my hotmail with both WiFi and GPRS connections. However, Internet Explorer just won't work. I've tried forcing it to use WiFi with the phone shut off, doesn't work. Tried it with GPRS with WiFi off, doesn't work either.
When I try to browse to an address it just pops up "Cannot Connect with current connection settings" I've tried all sorts now and I just cannot get it to work. I have "this network connects to the internet" checked in Proxy settings.
The only thing I have noticed is I have a load of connections under Internet Sharing which are no longer current yet they are still there.
Any help gratefully received!

You could just make a backup of everything and hard reset. I know thats a bit harsh, but it always works. I usually don't resort to that as a first, but give it a try.. just make sure everything is backed up to ur storage card and synced w activesync/wmdc. any questions, dont hesitiate to pm me

Cheers, just done that now and checked PIE worked fine before doing anything else.
All groovy now. Very odd it did what it did.

Yeah, with ATT/Cingular here and after a month or so I can no longer connect to much. I either install a new rom or do a hard reset and all works after. I don't know why it craps out for a bit then works good on a re-install. Once my device is set up I don't change much on it. strange, but not that big of a deal as I flash the new releases rather frequently.

Help Please
Brand new trinity and first time I used zap onto internet via wifi.
Since then never been able to access again. Wifi, GPRS all no go. Msg "cannot connect with current settings" I have checked and had works IT check all settings fine.
Is there a bug? or can does anyone know where I can download Internet Explorer for W6 and see if that is problem?
Regards
I too have suffered this problem. The way I have fixed it is to go through the settings not changing anything and save them. It doesn't happen often but this seems to fix my problem. Doesn't bother me too much as it only takes about 20 seconds to got through the settings and save them.
Hope this helps. If not try flashing with a different ROM.

GPRS not connecting??

I have done multiple searches and have not found anything. WIFI works, but gprs will not connect, i've tried disabling proxy and everything. I am currently using schaps 3.60a and the error i get is the answering modem has disconnected to check your connection settings click setting tab. I have not seen this error before. I've flashed multiple 8525's before. I have one working perfectly fine, and this is a second one i followed the exact same steps but gprs will not work no matter what.
I'm suddenly having an identical or almost identical problem on VP3g's ROM. My Wifi connection with PIE works fine and I'm getting push e-mail delivered. But when I try to connect off WiFi as I had always done before, I get the message:
"Cannot connect with the current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings"
I've checked my settings and they seem correct and the same I always used. I've checked to see that my NoData settings were not inadvertently set wrong, but Media Net is Enabled. I've tried flushing temp files and cookies. I even tried erasing them and then reestablishing them by going online with WiFi. Finally I also tried using Opera.
Nothing works. This is maddening
The only thing strange or different is that I had set HTC Custom for temp files to be on my SD Card and when I now tried to set them on main memory (to see if somehow that might work) I get a series of error messages each time and files remain on SD.
Is it possible for the radio for gprs to be corrupt?? Or it could it be something simple as a registry edit? On the phone it is instantaneous when you try to connect to gprs it kicks back that message right away. So i know for sure gprs/edge is inop. Not sure why though.
Check with your operator
It happens to me once in a while even when the "E" shows up in the display indicating Edge abailability, but reality is that the network is down or highly congested.
chhuong I think you are right and it must be a corrupt registry entry. I know that the visible settings are correct.
It occurred to me that I have been using NODATA to turn off GPRS reception whenever I wanted to use Wifi and perhaps one of the times I set it to be disabled and then enabled it again, it must have been left as disabled even though it "says" that it has been re-enabled. Also I had a problem trying to change the cache from Main to SD, and would keep on getting errors whenever I did, using HTCustom. So probably at some point some registry corruption must have crept in. Unfortunately I've become too lazy to open the registry editor and dive in to find out where it might be.
Anyway, I finally got tired of it not working and used the problem as an excuse to move from VPG's 3.60.1 to 3.60.2. I reflashed this morning and it's been fine ever since. This time I won't use NODATA.
well actually i've tried flashing multiple roms and multiple radios, and nothing, still no gprs? So mine might be an internal fault?? Has anyone ever heard of that happening??
have you tried: start - settings - connections -connections - advanced - select networks - Media Net? Reverse it back to my network when you to use WIFI.
I've got similar problem after reflashing. Try to run Shap's Advanced configuration tool, select Connections tab and click Enable HSDPA. Don't ask me why, but it helped me to solve the problem, even there is no HSDPA available here...
I am having the same problem but i dont think its schaps rom, i think it happened either after i installed the 1.54.10 radio or after i installed the shogun cabs. If a moderator or senior could point us in the right directions, it would be much appreciated.

I tired that many times, but it didnt help, thanks anyways.
FWIW, I was able to clear this up the last time it occurred by going in to Menu > Tools > Options > Memory and clearing the History, deleting files and clearing cookies, then soft reset, and everything was okay.
Try this cab http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=54309&d=1192447925, and if it doesnt work try enabling hspda, and if that doesnt work, try calling your provider and ask them to make sure that your account is enabled for data. I tried all that, then, because i dont have a data plan, but i use pay per usage, i went to ATT's site and added a data plan. Now it works, so i think its disabled on ATT's side. Need to figure out how to get contacts back on my phone

Hey all,
So I've had my Tilt2 for a couple months now, and I've been flashing it almost as long but recently I've run into the problem that from searching (WOO!) I can see a lot of other people have had: ActiveSync will not connect with my phone. It charges via the computer but WMDC/ActiveSync do not detect any phone is connected. I've tried two cords on three computers but have had no luck. Unfortunately, I hard reset (in an effort to fix this) the phone and all my contacts are of course gone and thanks to the fact that I only back up messages/call history with PIM backup, the only back up of my contacts is on my computer in Outlook. I can function without being able to resync outlook calendar/tasks/notes to my phone, but I have way too many contacts to add by hand so I need another solution. In addition, I bought the phone refurbed from AT&T as my upgrade, and I think the refurb warranty has ended and I'm leaving the country for the summer in two weeks so I'd rather not spend those two weeks waiting for an HTC engineer to replace the USB port (which from searching, seems to be the issue). Please help me find some other way to get my contacts from Outlook to my phone. THANKS

wiggy-wiggy-wiggy-wassup beatmaster?
I think the easiest solution in your case right now, is to setup phone-to-PC syncing via bluetooth. If your PC doesn't already have bluetooth built-in, you can get an adapter for $15 or less that will be all you need. Once you have that, your phone can connect to the PC that way, and do all the regular sync functions (like restoring your contacts!) that you could do through the USB connection.
Let us know (or PM me) if you need help finding an adapter or getting it setup.

Two things: 1) will syncing that way work if I don't have an already established partnership with my PC? I uninstalled & reinstalled WMDC & tried to remove all possible partnerships because those were suggestions on other threads.
2) somewhat unrelated I just found out that I bought the phone 83 days ago, which puts it within ATT's refurb warranty period (by a week) so I am considering trying to get it replaced, but do I need to reflash it to ATT's rom in order to do so? I.e.: does having a different ROM on the device violate the TOS?
Did you try a different rom? Task 29 and then flash another rom. Then you can make sure its not rom related.

Doesnt make sense.. if the phone wont connect to active sync how can he flash a rom?
Edit: Ah wait.. I forgot you can flash from your SD card
Double Edit: If you CAN flash it via your PC then it is connecting and maybe you just dont have a setting set up right on your phone to synce when active sync is on. When you connect it to your computer does that screen come on asking if you want to use activesync, hard drive or internet sharing?
All in all.. bluetooth might be your best bet instead of ripping apart the phone to replace the usb port. Especially if you cant do anything else. Try a hard resetting AGAIN first though and see if it syncs after that

1) That's a good question...I believe it will, but haven't tested it that way myself
2) Yes, flashing a custom ROM technically voids the warranty, but flashing back to the stock rom AND a stock SPL should get around that no problem (many have reported they still received warranty service by doing that)

I did flash from my SD card, but can I run Task 29 from it & then subsequently flash from it?
In response to the bluetooth suggestions, that isn't working either because from what I can tell, I do in fact, need to have an already established wired connection to make it work. So at this point I need to flash stock roms/radio/SPL to return this puppy to ATT. on that note: I found the stock ROM at http://www.htc.com/us/support/tilt-2-att/downloads/ but where do I get the normal SPL/which radio came with it (or does that part not even matter)?

Nevermind, turns out you can find the SPL to use in the file I downloaded from the HTC website above. Problem solved, calling ATT today to get this replaced. Just thought I'd write my solution down here so that anyone else with a similar problem can see how I figured it out. THANKS FOR THE HELP!

[Q] 802.1x and credential storage

hello all, im having this strange behaviour on my htc desire
i connect to my corporate wifi which is 802.1x auth
previously i was on android 2.2 and all worked smooth it automatically connect to the network everytime it was in range (it saved correctly 802.1x user/pass + credential storage in a way i didnt need to readd)
now that i switched to android 2.3.3 im still able to connect, but it is not an automatical thing, i need to reenter my credential storage password every time im in range otherwise im not able to connect; this could be ok if it would happen once a day, but since where i work there are lot of hotspot, sometimes i go out and enter buildings, i need to insert my "credential storage" password a lot of times;
it looks like a known problem, but ssems none had a way to fix it... any advice?
thank you

I have exactly the same problem - did you ever find a fix ?
A phone that needs a user-entered-password everytime it wants to use a WiFi connection is beyond useless
Sorry to post on an old thread, but I am having this exact issue since upgrading to 2.3. Was this ever sorted out?

Nope
I see a lot of threads complaining about this issue, but no solutions.
Is there any way to have the requirement for this password bypassed after a reboot?
Is there any setting, hack or app that will enter it for you automatically?
Failing that, is there any way to stop the phone continuously trying and failing to connect when the password hasn't been entered?
If I go into work having rebooted the previous evening, and forget to put this password in, then I sometimes pull my phone out of my pocket after an hour and find my battery down to 50% due to the constant connection attempts!
I've just disabled the WiFi on mine, and I use the mobile network instead.
As you've found out, if you don't do this then you'll find your battery life vanishes very quickly !
The WiFi is basically useless for 802.1x on the Desire.

Galaxy s3 not connecting to google/some apps when connected on WiFi

Hey guys, I've been searching for problems first before posting but I've yet to find a thread that actually fixes this specific problem. It's a little different than the other threads I've seen. Basically my phone can connect to my interwebs and I can browse webpages on dolphin browser but I can't connect to the play store. I've tried going to the play store on my desktop and trying to download apps to my phone that way but they never start downloading on my phone. I've tried resetting my router, multiple times yet it only worked once and hasn't worked any other trys after that. I've also tried dialing multiple " *# " numbers, some don't even connect and *#0011#* gave me an error about my connectiong and an invalid MMI. My router is secured through a WPA-key. Another thing that just recently started up was that snapchat would give me an error when I open it saying it has stopped working. Unrelated perhaps but maybe not.
I've been able to connect to other routers at other houses and my school, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I've noticed that when the wifi signal icon turns blue then everything will work. When it's grey, it's a complete toss up on whether it'll work or not.
I'm running Cyanogen Mod 10.2-20130925
I can't post pics because i'm too new... only created this to get a solution

If you did a factory reset when you upgraded to 10.2, then there isn't much you can do. If you have not done that, do it.

No, I haven't factory reseted it. I'm trying to avoid any factory resets to lose my information but right about now I'd try anything. Do you have an up to date guide on flashing ROMs and keeping my contacts?

Contacts are synced to your Google account. But you can export them from the contacts app just to be safe.
You can back up user app data with one of the billion back up apps on the market. Only user apps though, never system apps.
This way, you will only need to redo the system settings. Factory reset will make you lose 20-30 minutes if you're slow.
