Hello Universalowners!
I got a really big Problem. My Universal falled down 4 month ago. Because of that the USB-Connector broke out. Till yesterday that was no problem. My Universal worked pretty good. Under Windows, I was able to connect to my device by Bluetooth.
No here comes my problem.
Yesterday I booted up my device and I dont know why, it came up in bootloader mode.
I tried every key combination, but it does not reboot back to windows. Even Both softkey+reset does not work.
My friend owns an universal too, and we tried to back up his rom to sd card with mtty. The d2s command is locked on his device. There is no chance to backup his rom to sd card.
That would be my only chance to get my universal back to life.
The change of the usb connector would cost me a lot Euros.
I really don´t need the usb connection if I have a running system.
I charge my batteries by an external device and everything else I can do by bluetooth or infrared.
So please tell me, what I can do, to get my problem solved. I heared something about the tool itsutils.exe with rapi enabler on my friends device. But I really do not know, how I have to handle this.
Could someone send me the image, which I can write to sdcard with my laptop?? Please help me. I need my universal like the air to live!
Hope I will get a soon answer from you!! Thank you in advance!!!!!!
Don't o2 Germany do an insurance plan like o2 UK?
If I were you I'd buy the connector for the Euro or so it will cost, and solder it in myself. But of course, if it goes wrong you'll have fried your XDA with no backup. Can't you just call o2, take out insurance, then about a month later, "Lose" it?
Hi !
I have the following Problem.
Charging via USB is working and also the headest, but icannot sync via usb or do anything else.
What can i do ?? Wheres the Problem ?
Question; Are you using a charger in the car?
Yes the original T-Mobile charger
Well I guess that must be the bad guy.. do you plug your phone in the charger before turning on the engine? That causes higher voltage peaks which can damage the USB-circuit.
Since your using the original charger supplied you should send your device in for repair.
OK, thanks for your answers.
What's the good way for charging the device in a car?
Thanks
The safest thing to do is to start the engine before plugging in your device.

RE-INSTALL
Try re-installing active stink on your main computer.
Maybe that will sort it.
Hi i've the same problem. When the phone is turned on in the bootloader it doesn't say anything on the left bottom of the screen (normaly there was standing something like "USB"). and now its blank? ActiceSync isn't working eather and WM5 storage doesn't work. I only use the original USB cable and charger from the phone. when i plug in the usb it starts charging. but no usb connection.
Please help?
same problem as above, same as my Artemis, blown USB board. If its still under a year old send it for repair. Mine is over a year old now, so i cant get it fixed (unless i pay)
I just called T-Mobile Dutch, they will send him on repear. this is my second mdac3 in one year that needed to be send on repear. I hate it when i need to mis my telephone. hopefully when it comes back from repair it's fixed.
So if you got the same problem that USB is not working, you need to send it on repair. because you can do nothing about it
(fixes typefaults)

Yeah, but before i can send him on repair, i need to flash the original rom back on the phone, but how can i do this without an activesync connection? is there a way to do it from the SD-card? Please help me, otherwise i cannot send my device on repair. thanks in advanced

yes the correct way is u start the engine then plug ANY ADDITIONAL instrument so that the output of the power outlet in your car will be from the dynamic distributor and not from the battery directly!!
I have the same problem-can't connect via Usb anymore.does anyone know how much the repair will cost?My Orbit is out of warranty.Or is there any other workaround fo the problem?

apparently there is a company in London that will do the repair for £20, not sure on details tho.
i'll have a look around, as i'm looking to get mine repaired too. If you find details please post

Tried all variations e.g. diferent PCs, cables etc to no avail. My HTC Artemis connectes just phone on any computer!!!
Basically all I want to know is that can I unlock it without being able to activesync to it?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Help as I am running out of options. Have hard reset phone to solve USB issue bt nuttin! Tok it to phone shop to get repaired but they said they could not USB to it either and can't unlock it!

Two possibilities,
1 You dont have activesync installed on the PC (activesync drivers are required to communicate with device or you use Vista which requires driver downgrade (instructions in the Wiki))
2 Your USB port is damaged and requires resoldering to attach the correct pins (simply job to do, cheap repair, instructions are on the forum/Wiki)
Cheers,
Beasty
Thanks beast0898 for your suggestions. I use Win XP.
I suggest it is the USB port that needs repair as tried many PCs all with activesync latest version installed still same response.
Ill try the soldering now. Hope there is some pics and stuff to help me out!

The job is a very simple one to do yourself, the connector can easily become loose if your are not gentle when inserting cables. When you open the Uni up, you will see how easy it is sir. There are companies in the UK that will do it for you for around £40 with a new connector, if you're not happy doing it yourself.
Cheers,
Beasty
As for me it is not. I'm currently using Oli/Nex 1.93 unsigned.
Referring to the repair service i have send my diamond in, because of a broken USB port, it is a "illegal" piece of software and warranty repair has been rejected. They'd like to charge € 300.- for mainboard replacement.
Well, i have never heard before of a broken USB Port because of Hard-SPL and i even don't believe that Hard-SPL is capable of doing this.
My USB Port stopped working after plugging my diamond to my PC (long time after i had installed Hard-SPL). Charging still works but no way to get it recognized by ActiveSync or as harddisk.
My Assumption is the repair service is talking crap - they probably didn't even check the hardware and pointed their fingers at Hard-SPL after discovering it.
I'd like some comment, from the devs maybe, that Hard-SPL is harmless and not even capable of bricking the USB Port.
thanks,
nervdoc
it is done what is done, but for other people please restore the original spl before sending it to the service as a matter of fact restore the orig. rom also.
as for your question, what rom exactly did you have, cause some people expirience the async problem but normaly it gets solved by the rom shef.
No...that hardware malfunction has not been caused by Hard-SPL.
But they are talking about charging you for repair because they just had a look at the bootloader screen, noticed that you have "void-ed" the warranty by modifying the SPL...and this has been mentioned as a caveat so many times in the relevant threads, and if you could have cared to read properly before installing it, you would have known how to revert back to, or load the stock SPL(and stock Radio and ROM, if you flashed a different one) back before sending your device for warranty. This way the device would have been in stock conditions and they would have repaired it for free.
Hard Luck buddy, but that's the way it is...sad but true.

a known problem on HTC devices for the USB board to blow (leading to lack of being able to sync, but still charge) is charging in the car.
if the Diamond is plugged into a charger while the car is started, a hight current can be passed to the diamond resulting in the USB or Mainboard blowing.
I was running my providers original software but unfortunately i was not able to return to original SPL without a working usb port.
Is it possible to revert back to original SPL without working USB port? Didn't find anything besides flashing from internal storage - whitch didn't work for hard-SPL.
If i had really voided the terms of guarantee is questionable as there is no point which says "don't upload unofficial software"
warranty is excluded if (translated from german):
Damage, in particular dark blotch, lines or cracks on the display.
Damage due to fall, violent pressure etc.
Damage due to water.
Damage due to inappropriate handling.
Damage due to not authorized accessories.
Point 4 could apply though O2 (my provider) offers also firmware/software upgrades.
And as stated before (Hard-)SPL is not able to cause this damage.
Nevertheless i'll try to object to their refusal.

nervdoc

Hi nervdoc,
let them answer, where exactly it is stated (in the german warranty agreement), that the warranty is void after flashing certain software products.
If they cannot point this out, take legal action.

not possible, sorry.
I have send them a fax pointing out that regarding the terms of warranty there was no breach at this point.
Bluetooth is an option i already have considered and also used for activsync (...god is that slow)

Was kind of a fight but a least I have succeeded. You can even start customruu.exe to flash.
Works flawlessly until entering the bootloader.

lol, i bet.
yeh, that is the problem, needs to have a USB connection, as a bluetooth connection is not supported by the BIOS (or whatever the bootloader thingy is).
Of course bluetooth is supported by SPL.
You can even route the bluetooth connection once you're in the bootloader.
But for that you need to change the port settings (available via console only).
Anyway, yes, Hard-SPL could have bricked the usb port.
Why ?
The usb init itself might have changed between the mfg version (old version) and newer spl versions. So, newer hardware leads to newer voltage settings / calibration.
But honestly ... I doubt that the usb port was bricked by just hard-spl.
In fact, most usb ports are bricked by sticking the usb cable first into the pc and then into the phone ... either due to electrostatic issues or due to overvoltage (unstable usb connection).
So imho a bricked usb port is 99% an hardware issue and no software issue if the software was intended for the phone.

Exactly this happened. Phone was on and after connecting it to pc the screen went dark.
Had to remove battery and put it back in to turn my diamond on again.
Another thing is to make this clear to O2's repair service
Hi
try change the spl without USB like the rom or radio file transfer though bluetooth file to internal storage change name for DIAMIMG and reset phone keep pressing volup button and back button then when phone recognized file press power button to start updating

they've been told to do this, HTC have sent a document round to RMAs about it.
I would contact them back and tell them that they're talking bull**** and they can either prove that the SPL is causing the hardware defect (in line with EU law requiring the manufacturer to prove your modification breaks the device) or shut up and repair it.

Already tried this. As far as i know HardSPL is write protected.
At least it didn't work. The update process went well but checking bootloader afterwards it still showed olinex 1.93.
@olipro
Is it possible to restore stock SPL from Internal Storage though HardSPL is installed?
If yes, are there any special tricks to perform. As stated above i already tried without success.
Unfortunately I don't have a good idea for you. But, I had a motherboard on my PC which simply caramelized anything I conected to the front USB console: A Sony camera, A bluetooth adapter, a memory stick, and ALMOST an ipod of a friend which costs 300 euros...Fortunately we conected all the other things before and we realized the problem with the motherboard.
So, it might be something simular in your case, maybe...Check with something cheap, with an old memory stick? Then you will know: don't connect anything...
Just an idea to prevent further accidents....
For 300€... maybe better to wait, save another 300 and buy a blackstone?
Or...save and buy a new diamond? For 300 you can buy on e-bay easily... a bit risky...
I have the unassembling manual of the HTC, I downloaded it from somewhere on this forum, have a look. if you want I can send it to you by email. Changing the motherboard looks easy! The only thing you can do is to see which bad things are the best...
Wish you find the best solution!
Plese keep us informed.
As for the repair service - they refused. Now they're talking about "mechanical damage to the motherboard" which is not covered by warranty.
They also offered me an error report - for some extra charge. Really consumer-friendly.
Now I'll try my luck with the dealer where i bought it.
Hi, my sister needs a low cost new phone and i've found, on eBay, some Qtek 9090 at 144€.
I know, it's a quite old device, but, viewing the tecnical sheet, it doesn't seems to be so bad... In fact, i'm asking you users, would you buy a Blue Angel today?
Of course i'd upgrade its ROM, it's dangerous?
Now i've got an HTC Diamond, is it really different beethween ARM and Xscale? Does it cause any compatibility issue?
And, important thing, is it strong? She's not very "soft" with phones
i would definetely buy one again, but not for 150eur! 30-60 maybe. on ebay, for 150 you'd get a touch pro or touch diamond in mint condition.
upgrading the rom is not dangerous. many people messed up their phones during upgrading, but there is always a pretty easy way to restore it. no mistake is fatal.

I couldn't find one for lower prices that meets my payments requests...
But this is not a problem
I've seen that flasing is a bit tricky compared to flashing the HTC Diamond, where you can just download the ROM and, if it's for Diamond, you can flash it without problem...
Here there are some IDs to edit before flashing, right?
no, i find the blueangel to be the easiest device to flash, no CID locking, no need for SPL changing... just bootloader, flashing, hard reset, and that is the same procedure for any device, just that the BA does not need to be unlocked before, just the extrom resize, which is not mandatory.

Uh Really?
What about this? It's useless right now? :O
the RUU checks for deviceID and countryID and other IDs, but by using a custom RUU and putting the device into bootloader mode before connecting to the pc, all those id checks are bypassed.
on the wiki page in your link, the topic is finding the correct STOCK rom for your device. but nobody uses stock roms with wm2003se anymore. all the roms offered on this forum work for all blueangel models, no matter if it's a t-mo mda iii or spv m2000 or siemens sx66 or whatever. the only device, that cannot be flashed with blueangel roms, is the harrier, the cdma version of the phone. but since there is no cdma network in europe, there is no chance of getting a harrier, plus, you would recognize a harrier immediately, because it has no sim card slot, because on cdma, that is not needed.
btw the best thing about the blueangel is the community i have a Blueangel, a Universal and a Touch HD and while the other 2 devices' hardware is way superior, their respective sections here on the forum are by far not as good as the blueangel's.

I should get it today
The 400Mhz CPU is (by frequence) faster than my old Elfin (200Mhz) but it's an XScale based device, so i don't think i can directly compare them... What are the differences beethween XScale and ARM?
I have.. .. alot of devices. I like the blueangel. It's alot better than the newer phones, faster. I'd use a blueangel over any of the newer phones. Hermes was the last good phone put out by HTC.
