hello,
I have a hitachi g1000 with windows mobile 2002, i want to rid off from sprint win version with all functions and feature and install a normal winCE.
the problem is, I cant do that, downloaded from micrsoft website trial verision but when run setup.exe it stops and ask tell my windows on PC need some other application and etc and etc. I install one application .NET Framework 2 but still not possible to go on with setup.
I would like to know is it only with me or someone also experince similar problems, please share with me yourexperience if you have installed on your pda win CE and how.
is there any other way to install it on my hitachi, or what I'm doing wrong?
Hello dar22.
It seems you misunderstand the whole Pocket PC OS issue.
You cannot just install Windows CE because it is not a generic operating system like Windows XP.
First, Windows Mobile is a derivative of Windows CE, but it also adds some functions. Even if you could replace your OS pure windows CE cannot run most apps developed for the PPC.
Second, Windows Mobile is custom tailored for every device (so is Win CE) and the result is called ROM image. You can't just install a generic version and then add drivers because they all come together from the manufacturer.
So to conclude this:
Unless the devices OEM provides an upgrade, there is no way to change the OS.
yes I uderstand than the generic WIN CE comes without drivers for a specific PDA, but the whole idea that I don't need that pda's most of it's functions such as camera and phone functions, I need only to have WINCE on it.
Can anybody advice me how to rid off from original Windows Mobile and install instead of that pure win ce version?
I mean what applications should I have on my PC to flash my device with WIN CE?
You still haven't understood me.
When I said 'drivers' I meant such basic things like memory, touch screen, device buttons.
Even those things need specific drivers from the OEM so there is no way to install Win CE on your device, unless:
1) You can dump the original ROM and extract all the drivers.
2) You can get MS Platform Builder (full and legal version), incorporate the drivers and create a special image for your device.
(I think you actually have to be an OEM and have contract with MS for the second part)
I am not sure what you tried to install, but there is no Win CE version you can just flash to any device and it will work.
levenum, thanks for your support, what you think can I install linux instead? I just don't want to have the sprint windows version
Well, you could try looking for linux version, but I am not sure there is one for your device.
You see, for mobile devices it is pretty much the same thing with linux. OEMs do not release even the basic drivers so there are no generic OS for these devices.
There are linux projects for HP iPaqs and also xanadux project (look in the WiKi) for HTC devices, but I don't know of anything for your device.
Perhaps if you specify what exactly bugs you about the OS maybe we can recommend apps and reg tweaks to get around is.
I recently install Vista RTM6000 on my laptop. But I found that I can not upgrade my universal rom ever.
Is there somebody successfully upgrade rom in Vista? And how can I do it?
At this point upgrading roms under vista is impossible, because RUU software is incompatible with Vista
The current way I do it is to install Virtual PC 2007 and run XP to do any flashing...it's a cludge but it works.

oh,thanks very much,I can't refresh the rom for long time,but couldn't find out the reason.HoHo, that's just because I'm using Vista 6000.
Thanks, but a little sad. Vista does not runs so fast on my laptop. I have already two operation system installed. I really won't to install an another one...

How it works?, in my virtual XP, it doesn't recognize the prsence of any external devices, not only the jasjar but also the printer, webcam , and so on> Do you have any tricks to do that??
Hi all.
Finally update my M3100 to WM6 (thanks to LVSM) and i can't connect with my Windows Vista desktop using latest driver from Microsoft.
I can connect with Windows XP box with Active Sync 4.5 without any problem.
Anyone get this working or am i crazy?
Thanks all.
Windows VISTA has a new activesync.
If you connect your device, you should see that Vista auto detects your phone.
But you can't install programs etc.
Then you have to run Windows Update to dowload an additional package, so you
can install programs etc.
So if your Vista ain't that legal, then don't try.
I had installed the XDA Live 0.1 last week without issues (via WinXP)
When I tried to upgrade to the 0.2 it hung in boot loader (tri-colour screen), while using Vista w/ AS4.5.
I had to hard reset to get it to go back to 0.1, but it hasn't really been the same since.
I d/l the new WM6 LVSM and tried to upgrade, but it also hangs in tri-colour mode.
Now is it a problem because I'm running Vista?

If I am not mistaking, you can't upgrade with Vista.
There is a workaround for it, but standard it's not possible.
Upgrade trough Windows XP.

Thanks I was thinking i could just use Vista.
I guess I should have just stayed on XP on my primary PC instead of upgrading to Vista so damn quick...LOL

Well, i expose my complete experience with Vista (of course legal copy )
I have one Qtek 9100 and one TyTN (SPV M3100 Spanish Orange).
days ago both of them with WM5 (original branded)
Yesterday move qtek 9100 to WM6, but can't do with Vista so i do in a VMWare Windows XP box running into Vista with VMWare Workstation (this works very fine). once the 9100 was WM6, Vista says taht the device is new and can't find the driver, but one day before works fine.
So today upgrade my TyTN with the same, put the RUU in the XP box, and works fine, but the same results in Vista and Mobile Sync. Works with SM5 but not with WM6. But in XP box, works with boths.
I think MS checks the OS version in Vista Sync, so you can't sync if the OS version isn't in the list of legal OS mobile.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and have WMXL 0.20 on my phone.
I can connect my phone to vista and i can browse my phone. I see the storage card and the internal memory.
You can't install application trough this.
If you want to install application when using Windows Vista, connect your phone with the USB cable, wait for Windows to detect your phone and install the drivers, then run Windows Update.
Then it will download an package so you can install applications.
Windows Vista uses the new Mobile Sync Center hence the RUU cannot connect with your PDA... if you replace the Mobile Sync Center drivers with the activesync ones you can get it to work...
there is a search button on the top right of this forum... as this topic has been discussed and answered many times before i suggest you use the search feature as it works wonders....
I installed Windoes Mobile Device Center on Vista, and I did not have a problem getting it to recognize my hermes w/ XDA-live 0.20. I did nothing special, just plugged it in, it was recognized, I configured it, and it syncs no problem.

Ok, i dosn't express correct. The question is the conectivity, not so only run RUU, but get acces to device.
With Vista (spanish version) i can't get acces to WM6, and i try two devices, Qtek 9100 and TyTN. a couples of days before both of them were with WM5 and can access without any problem. So i think Vista can read the version my devices says to be and be confused with the driver to use. Were can i find the drivers to make this work. Anyone says i can put activesync 4.5 drivers in Vista, is this correct?
So i must to connect to my XP box into VMWare and access trought this. so i can access and update usgin RUU.
Thanks.

I'm in your same situation.
Im my case, Vista dosn't find the correct driver for my M3100 with LVSW WM6 (perhaps i make a mistake installing, i'll reinstall Vista soon ) In XP box no problem to do that, and gain Internet connection from M3100 to get sync with Exchange server trought Internet.
How do you set the connection in Device Center?
Everything is working fine under vista for me.
I am able to:
-use ICS through USB, PAN
-manage installed programmes
-browse the device
...
I am using an english vista + an english WM6 tytn ROM
Anyone else notice that with XP and Activesync you can see and browse to your Windows folder on the PPC, but through Vista that folder is completely hidden and there seems to be no way to browse it??

You just need to enable viewing of System folders in Folder options
I'm using Vista since the first day and I have updated my TyNT with LVSW ROM and everything works.
Bluetooth activesync / USB activesync / Pairing with Outlook 2007 / Seeing all the files on Main Memory and Storage Card....
All put in one word, everything is perfect.
Only one thing hasn't worked : I haven't been able to update using Vista.
When I try to install Windows Sideshow I get the following errors:
1. A problem has occurred with tmarshaller.exe
2. A problem has occurred with shell32.exe
When I click these errors away the installation is finished, but then my device doesn't respond to anything.
After a soft reset I can start Sideshow, but even when the device has a bluetooth connection with my computer it gives the following message:
"Make sure that this device is paired with the PC over Bluetooth and that the PC is turned onn and within range.
If this problem persists, wait a few minutes and try again."
When I remove the application and reinstall it again I get the same problems.
Anyone know what I can do to make it work?
Using Windows Sideshow on Xperia X1
Hi, I can't help with the error codes but I have successfully loaded Windows Sideshow onto my Xperia X1 and can see information from my Desktop PC.
Background info:
PC Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Xperia Operating System: Energy ROM based on WM 6.5.3
The steps I took were to install my USB Bluetooth adapter but install using the Standard Bluetooth stack drivers that are built into Windows 7, create a Pairing between my X1 and PC so i never need to input a code when transferring data.
I then installed the Windowssideshowforwindowsmobile.cab and .NetCF V2.cab to my X1 (Install to Device and not storage card)
then go to control panel on your PC and under Devices you should see your Phone/PDA listed - access the settings option by right clicking and go to the 'Services' tab, select all Bluetooth services by putting a Tick into the box.
I had options for Activsync over bluetooth and windows sideshow.
then on your Phone/PDA start the Sideshow app and select connect.
to add new apps/gadgets to your device go to Control panel/windows sideshow.
Hope this Helps.
