T-Mobile EDGE in Las Vegas on Schap's latest WWE Lite ROM. As you can see, EDGE blows... I wish I was on Cingular's 3G network
Yukkers!
I personally don't rate this site much. Somewhat limited, but in all fairness functional.
Try this one for a bit more variety (and it's global)

So you feel Speedtest.net is more accurate compared to dslreports.com and frontiernet.net?

Nah.. If I could, we would all own Kaisers by now
tbh
speed test sites are generally not very accurate for reporting true sustained speeds, the best thing to do is download a 3-4mb files (such as an mp3) and measure the time it takes.
On tmob in central london using this I manage an average of 1mbps
How did you guys get the speedtest.net to work?
My Hermes/PIE tells me it needs Flash 7, yet it doesn't seem to be available for the mobile market yet.
well, flash is avaible for wm 5....
just go to adobe.com and search for it..
or take this link:

;-)

Thanks very much. I must be going blind. I looked all over the Adode site

I agree in denver we just got moved to the 3g network. My speed test as this morning was 1100kbps or 137KB
..DL/UL speed in Penang, Malaysia (Celcom 3G/UMTS 2100), all tests done on PC, teethering vide USB using device ICS, within this few hrs..
Doesnt really matter. No one is getting over 1.2mbit a sec. I've had wifi enabled and sat the phone directly on top of the router and the max I can get is 1.1-1.2mbit downstream. Avg 700-1mbit on hsdpa at&t 3g network in toledo, OH.
I guess you guys are testing from your PC's not your PPC as I still can not get speedtest.net to work on my Hermes.
Anyhow here's my connection speed on my ADSL

man.. only wish that we can get that kind of speed with our pocket pc using HSDPA.. wait till super HSDPA is here where it won't be limited to 1.8Mbps..
anyway, testing with your PC while teethering vide Internet Connection Sharing is one way to gauge your HSDPA/3G speed..
nonetheless below is the test I done directly on my 838pro (go here
Code:
http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed?t=4&s=100&r=26461&w=
) on your Pocket IE to do the test..
this test was done, while device is connected to PC & internet sharing was running, therefore it would not be that accurate, ..though shown as not at a "superspeed "but HSDPA speed nonetheless..
& here is what the PC shown when test was done, .. tested more or less during the same period..
the speed will fluctuate, but for us with HSDPA connection, as long it is above 384 kbps, it should be ok...

4g is starting to roll out here(slc,ut), highest speeds I'm getting right now are 2.73mb Down and 0.99 mb UP, seems like those caps sprint was talking about are in effect, anyway to break them like you wizards did with the 30fps cap issue or is it because 4g is not officially released here yet?

What caps are you talking about? Look at one of the 4g speed threads, many have had much better results that your test above.

Hmmm, I've had better results before, but I don't get a 4g signal in my house. I'll test again when I'm out and about.

Sprint has openly stated they are capping 4g at 1mbps upload for now. The official cap is 10/1 though they may raise it at a later date.
My home cable internet is capped at 10/1
And my evo on wifi uses every drop of it, which is cool to see
You won't need more than 512 kbit/s anyways unless you are trying to torrent. The latency is too crap to play/host any online games anyways.

1 mbps Upload, Not bad at all
I work for a medium size ISP our fastest internet tier is 10.1mbps down with 1.0mbps up. So for 1mbps up on a mobile phone that is really good. I understand Comcast has 50x10 packages which is insane and awesome, but 1mbps on upload is really good, should be plenty fast
Wow im in Houston and NEVER got more than 3Mbps down and ofcourse only 1 up.

I have the 50/10 but Comcast is rolling out 105/15 within the next month or so here.
1Mbps upload is nothing... I've had 2 for ages.
Getting 0% on a multiple choice test is as hard as getting 100%. Consecutive perfect 1.00Mbps uploads are just that, a solid proof of throttling =P
That is TERRIBLE speed...
I have a telstra desire a8183 which is running on the Telecom XT network - nationwide 850mhz 3g coverage, which has recently been upgraded to HSPA+ in many places.
But I cant break the slower 3.6mbps speed despite the 7.2mbps the desire claims.
I'm standing right by a cell site now. -63db and 25asu and here's the result:

suggest you read up a but about digital comms. You will never ever see 7.2mbps unless you are in a lab with a cell transmitter all to yourself. There are 10s of reasons for this. contention, attenuation etc. I think the best you will see is about 4 - 5mbps if the cell tower is completely empty of other traffic and your speed test server is directly connected to the cell tower with no other links in between.
Otherwise, I think 3 to 4mbps is excellent result.
The 7.2 mbps speed is the maximum theoretical speed the device is capable of i.e. in ideal conditions. You will never see that speed.
I use a 3G router at work and I have NEVER seen any more than 3.5 on that which too is capable of 7.2.
3 to 3.5 is very good really and is a pretty fast connection for a mobile phone really. The main thing that really is the killer with 3G connections is the latency... 3.5 may sound reasonable... but get 12 laptops connecting at once...

Thats a foookin awsome speed for a mobile phone, you should be proud not putting it down lol ive neva had more that 2 or 300 kbs lol
It's best to think of your home broadband... I get 5Mb on adsl .. I'm ment to get 25Mb LOL... but my line is copper hell .. so wont get up that fast !! same with 3G and H .... it may have an ideal speed .. but actual speeds are about 2Mb or less on a 7.5 link... so 3Mb is good...
happy surfing !!
I've reached 3.9Mbs once (at 4 o clock in the night, outside and perfect weather conditions), usually mines down at 2.
If you want a stable and fast connection get a fiber cable. They're soo stable and I usually reach max speeds

Ah cheers guys. I didnt realise overheads + congestion were that huge on cellular. I know somewhere which would have VERY few people on it and is running both 2100mhz and 850mhz 3G. Might try a speedtest there sometime.
This mobile network is hardly congested i'd say, only been around for a year or so.

I just managed 4.1Mbps with -59dB and 29asu to probably the least used speedtest server in the country at a guess. This is making more sense now.
Mobile data in NZ is rather expensive and very capped - im on a 512mb plan.
Max ive had with my Telstra desire on Telstra's network was 4.14mbps down and 1.17 up. And this was a near empty in-building cell with 100mbps backhaul.
Not bad. I would actually say you will only achieve about 60% of the chipset's maximum speed due to overheads, air retransmissions etc
Just for information; made some tests with speedtest app on a cpl of servers, max download speed I could see was 4,6 mbit/s (my location Gothenburg/Swe, test server Aarhus/Denmark, it was 16:15 local time) and upload speed was appr 1 mbit/s, that was the highest speeds i hv reached by far. Hv no any clue abt technical details in terms of hsdpa, hsupa or whatever hw configuration built in my phone (unbranded, unrooted HTC Desire with official froyo, network: 3 Sweden)

What's the fastest speedtest? I've seen 9 on YouTube, has anybody got any faster?
My Dl speeds have been quite slow, but for some crazy reason the other night I was DL at 600kb UL at 6mb
i know.
i didn't typo that. i was uploading 10 times faster than i was downloading, and i was uploading faster than my home internet connection will go.
I've hit 7.2 download a week ago. I normally average between 4.5-6.

I've gone up to 4.5 Mbps. Haven't done many speed tests.
Let me preface this with I work at a Radioshack.
When we first got the G2's in, before the phone actually launched, I tested one out just to see what kind of speeds it could get. My store is in a 5 bar HDPA+ area. The first test out of the box I got 8mpbs, and the second I got 10.5mbps, every one after that was ~10. After the phone launched and a few weeks went buy I got mine and iv been getting between 4-7mbps in the exact same spot.
So the phone is capable of it, but now that tmobiles network is getting more hammered by HSPA+ phones its slowing down I think.
The highest I received was 5.8 and that was in Las Vegas....
fastest i ever got was 4.85 mb/s after the ota. but it wasnt on hspa+ just hspa 7.2.. still just "3G"...
Taken in Plano, TX. Don't really like the fact that my wife's Vibrant will go to the server in Dallas and my old MyTouch always went to the one in Dallas, but my G2 will not find it for anything.
I've gotten around 7 or 8 as my highest in Western New York. Pretty decent speeds.
i can't figure this one out.
Normal:
I would like to post my Speedtest result but cannot figure out how to paste it in a message. I feel like an idiot, help?

I tested out in aurora once, said I was >5 miles from the server and I got a whoppin 8.6 mbit down. It was about the fastest I've ever tested but I average around 3-5mbit anywhere else.
So here in austin tx I hit 7.69 mbps down and 1.23 up.
Any good speeds out there?

Here in Seattle, I just got 10390, 11574, and 10063 down on three consecutive tests using mobilespeedtest.
Using Ookla's SpeedTest app, I could only get 2.5 down/0.6 up, without having moved the phone *at all*.
Mobilespeedtest isn't accurate. The speedtest.net app is the one that you should trust.

Ha I'm in austin with around 6 down and 1.02 up. At least that's the general average with speedtest.net.

So what type of upload speeds should we be getting, is the phone HSUPA compatible? With all this talk about the Atrix and it's upload speeds, it makes me wonder if I am getting cheated out of faster upload speeds. Thanks for listening.
Never seen more than 5mps dl and 4 upload. In las vegas, no more than a mile away from a 3g listed tower. Phone shows -71dbm when I tested just outside of my house and looking in the direction of where the tower is.
My wifi gives me almost 9mbps second down and 4 to 7 upload. (I don't pay for the really fast speed service at home)

I'm in Seattle and got 1159kbps on mobilespeedtest. But I got 3005kbps on speedtest app. My average at home is between 2.5mbps and 3mbps on speedtest app and speedtest.net tethered. I don't know about that mobilespeedtest. The first test gave me 700kb, the second 1159 and the third 2186 within 2 minutes. Speedtest.net has always been more consistent than that for me, and pretty comparable to my other go-to, integra.net (also Ookla FWIW though.)
Chinly43 (or anyone in Seattle): Hope you don't mind if I pick your brain about the G2 in Seattle. I tried to check out your posts but am unclear if you found a good radio, or other solution, that gets the G2 to stop freaking out while traveling around the city? Does yours freeze up and lag? Are you getting dropped calls? Can you tell me what solution worked for you? I am in Northgate but problems started in Bellevue and also the University area while on the bus. At home my data flickers into H+ intermittently but remains on 3G 99.9% of the time. Thanks for any advice you can give.
hit 7 mbps the other day in houston. BUT i was never to replicate it.
I feel that HSPA+ is a myth. Any time I have looked at a tmousa 4G phone's mobile network type to see which network it is connected to, it ALWAYS says HSDPA. Can anyone tell me if it ever says HSPA, HSPA+, or if it is just supposed to say HSDPA?
The most i could get in Italy with speedtest.net was 6.07Mbps down and 3.14 up... even though I think the carrier's network just supports 7.2, hopefully in a few months it will be upgraded to 14.4
The most I've ever seen in Orlando was 8mbps dl, maybe 2mbps ul. On average though I get less than that, depending on the area I'm in.

Hello
Thanks for reading my post.
I just had my Nexus 7 repaired from ASUS , since then i have installed both CM 11 (snapshot) and Stock Rom 4.4.2 . N7 is not able to connect at more than 54mbps , i remember before it went for repait it used to get speeds up to 150 mbps.
If someone can suggest anything i can do at my end or is it because of some hardware fault?
Note: i have not changed my router settings (DGND3700) at all , Nexus 5 connects at 135 mbps .

Rich guy!. Both my home wifi and my LTE connection run at approximately 15-30 mbps.
Your 54 mbps is far faster than what regular folks can even get access to!
I wonder what you need higher speeds for

The WiFi "carrier" speed is no relation to your 'net speed. You want a fast connection not just for throughput but for capacity (sharing with other devices) and latency. Not all access for people is off-site.
I know this doesn't really help, but none of my androids have connected beyond 54. Are you sure it connected faster before?
Edit: nevermind I'm connected at 60 right now.
