There's a seller online that's selling a demo unit for $600 USD with WM6 preinstalled. I'm questioning if I should buy it because I believe that the phone only officially comes with WM5. So how stable is WM6 on the Artemis? Also, would you buy a phone with WM6 preinstalled? This basically means the phone has already been hacked into, correct?
Basically, do you think I'm better off buying one with the OEM software set-up or should I try this one with WM6. I like the fact that it already has Voice Command included (I was going to buy this anyway) but I'm not sure of the stability of WM6.
I think you will find that it has Voice Commander installed, it is not the same thing as MS Voice Command.

Hi!
I'd definitely say you should by the retail one with WM5, to get a valid warranty and a reseller to complain to if something gets wrong with the device. Upgrading the device by your self to WM6 is very simple and easy if you follow the guides in this forum.

PK

Oh. So what's the difference between Voice Commander and MS Voice Command? Do you have to do voice tags?
That's a lot of money for a demo, too. I agree with others. WM6 is easy to install on your own.

MS Voice command you don't need to record tags, Voice Commander you do.
Also MS Voice Command will announce who is calling and read your text messages to you when they arrive, play your music (no tags there either, just say the album, artist or track name) tell you your battery level, signal strength, adjust the volume, turn flight mode on or off...... There is more info and a demo here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/voicecommand/default.mspx
OK. Agreed. I'll wait and just buy a WM5 Artemis. Besides, the Voice Commander isn't what I wanted anyway. I don't want to record voice tags.
I'm using MS Voice Command 1.5 on my WM 2003 device and I like it. I guess I'll just have to fork over $40 more to get Voice Command 1.6 since the old version doesn't work on WM5.

is anyone know where can i buy the program in uk i did try in handango but they said not for sell in this country.thanks
It is not posible outside EEUU, I asked handandgo by email and answer it was forbiden by Microsoft.
Try Fonix software it works really well.
www.fonix.com
Cheers
If you have an XDAII, then you can get a fully working version of it with the official o2 UK 1.72 upgrade. I don't use it very much as I always feel an idiot saying the name, then normally having to confirm it before dialing, when I can just as easily go into speed dial or call history etc.
However, when I have used it it works a treat.
Cheers
Anthony
I use Fonix in the car all the time and its works great for me.
I found that Voice command recognised the contact I wanted 95% of the time, but then didn't recognise me saying 'yes' to confirm it.
In my case, Fonix does not always recognize my 'NO' command... :S
But still it's a great contender for MS VC....
By the way, is there a way to avoid Fonix to change my microphone AGC setting? It always changes it to AGC OFF, thus the recognition gets affected drastically, however when AGC is ON I get 98% success rate!
TIA,
Rayan
what version of Fonix voice dial are you using. I used the first version with my XDA1, this worked wonderfully.
I have found that the 2.0 version doesn't have a UK voice (the us ones are a bit odd). In addition i have noted the recognition does seem poor and it doesn't repeat the contact, just says "your contact"!!
Any ideas / help always welcome!
voice commands
hi,
you don 't really have to buy this software, you can download it probabely from following site: www.suprnova.org
I'm using the latest version (2.0)...
The weird thing is that it does not always change the AGC Setting...
I have not found a pattern, it seems more like random...

Ok I have my first Windows Mobile phone it is a Cingular 8525 unlocked sim unlocked and CID unlocked and all that good stuff. I recently upgraded to Windows mobile 6 I can't remember the exact rom but it was something Black.
I do a lot of bluetoothing with my phones and am looking for a good rom for bluetoothing. Mainly I make ringtones and bluetooth them to people or whole songs. But recently I purchased a bluetooth headset and am wanting the best quality out of it. I do a lot of texting too so speed needs to be good. Any suggestions?

No need to. The current BT implementation is kinda working, but it waaaay too far from being feature rich and reliable. He-he ... am I talking about BT or MS overall ? Anyhow I just tested OBEX push - failed both ways - sending or receiving a file from SE phone.

Hi, I'm new here so please excuse the newbie-type question...
I recently upgraded my T-Mobile Dash from WM 5 to WM 6. Since doing this, I have been in voice recognition phone number dialing HELL!
WM 6 does not like my voice even though I speak clearly and have never had any problem with any other voice recognition software. There's no way to train the software in WM 6. In addition, there is no dedicated button to activate the speech recognition phone dialiing application and the "home" button that you are supposed to use defaults to the voice recorder application and not the dialer. In order to use the dialer, you ahve to go into the voice recorder application and either record something or play with the settings and press the "done" key to get into the voice recognition dialer!
At this time I am very, very frustrated. I've spent hours with T-Mobile and HTC and no one can solve the problem. Unless Microsoft fixes this "bug," my phone is of little use to me because I dial all my phone numbers with voice recognition.
I'm tryiing to get a copy of a working WM 5 ROM for a T-Mobile Dash Smartphone so that I can turn my phone BACK to operate with WM 5 where I had far fewer problems. I've tried EVERYWHERE to find a WM 5 ROM but NO ONE, not even T-Mobile, HTC or Microsoft has one. I've searched on the Internet for days without any luck. Does anyone have a copy of Windows Mobile 5 ROM for T-Mobile Dash Smartphone that they can share with me?
Thank you in advance
wm5 is posted here many times... shouldn't take long to find it now that you're here.
i'm suprised tmo won't post it since their wm6 sucks so bad. it would save them a lot of returns i'm sure.
also check out htc wm6 since it uses voice tags as well.
I've done a search for WM 5 on this site and can't find it. Do you know who might have a WM 5 ROM to download or where on the site I might find it?
WM 6 to my knowledge does not allow you to "train" the voice tags. WM 6 does not seem to respond well to my voice whereas WM 5 had very few problems once I trained it.

hmmmmm. i was able to find it in about 2 min.
perhaps you need to try some different keywords like tmobile, rapidshare, downgrade etc.
i told you htc wm6 has voice tags... same as the tmo wm5 version.
tmo wm6 uses voice command.
PM me, I have the ROM you're looking for.

I was over the moon when I heard I could load WM6 on my TyTN....
my phone is now slower than it was before.......why would this be?
battled to get active sync working again. MS Active Sync 4.5 installed Outlook 2002 but it has not serial number....where do I get this from?
I was hoping they would release GPS software for this phone but it dont like it.... Anyone know if there is GPS software available? I know about the navigate software but that's the same as having a map book or street guide.
What has your experience been after upgrading your TyTN OS to WM6?
What are the new features in WM6? To me it still looks the same in terms of functionality.....
Bless u...
but u know almost every Tytn got slower when upgraded to WM6(it's not real WM Version6 but a Second Edition of WM5). According to a developer of Microsoft in Asia Research Center, WM5SE has a memory limit which only allows 32 process in a row therefore we can see WM5SE(the so called WM6) cannot handle memory well.
That's the reason why Tytn got slower...
can i downgrade to WM5 again?
sure
downgrades are don like upgrades...
Is there any GPS software available for the HTC?
where would I get WM5 from? HTC site or google?

Not sure why your upgrade seems slower, but my upgrade from the official WM6 upgrade from the HTC site went smooth as butter and everything seems faster for me. I've also noticed that it boots up a bit faster and I don't get errors from Xpress mail upon boot ups. The only thing I did notice was that it used up a bit more memory than WM5. My bluetooth head piece connects faster/better, I don't have to soft reset nearly as often as I did with Wm5 either. The messaging program has a few new features that I like too. I actually like my Tytn now. Unfortunately, Youtube still doesn't work out of the box and requires the flash bundle upgrade and that other video player TMCMP or what ever its called.
I use SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Pocket Plus and they work flawlessly with WM6. Overall, this was the best thing to happen since I got this phone in August.

Hi,
Clearly either I have done something wrong, or there is something wrong with the phone. Is there a particular order in which this upgrade should be done?
My PDA is slow opening applications and I am battling with Active Sync 4.5
It displays an error each time and I dont know what it means. I have tried to google the error but cannot pick up anything.
I want to downgrade to WM5. Where can I download it from? I only find the SDK version of WM5. Any ideas where I can get WM5 from. I dont see it on HTC website either
Any help will do.
Thanks
I'd begin by reading Mr. Vanx's downgrade guide
You can use some registry tweaks/settings to improve responsiveness of your device if your flash goes ok. Official release ROMs are slower than cooked ROMs - so your choice also matters. For me the performance of WM6 has always been superior in comparison to WM5.
I haven't seen this mentioned but has anybody been able to use a BT headset to make, receive, and control calls? I can't. I get "this feature isn't supported on the connected phone" from my Blueant Q2. I know this was an issue with the Sensation and tried installing the voicedialer.apk but the phone won't allow it to be installed. I installed Vlingo but it crashes the phone and I have to do a reset to get it back. Thoughts? Experiences?
Update. We're apparently screwed. There's no native voice dialer included in ICS. I found one that installs but it loses its connection with the headset as soon as it starts. The folks on the Vivid forum are having the same issue. I tried the apps they discussed but they didn't work either. So I guess we wait for HTC to do something.

Yes... ish
I posted the same question a few days ago, but I got no reply, so I bought the phone anyway and tried. Vlingo sort of works with my jawbone earpiece. What I do not like at all is the fact that it does not confirm the command before dialling, or at least I did not figure out how to set it up properly, with the result of dialing the wrong contact in case of a misunderstanding.
I am really missing the simplicity of the blackberry voice dialler, amongst other things (mostly due, I guess, to my being a newbie with android). It was a no-brainer, whilst all the solutions I have seen for android are slightly more cumbersome.
Thanks to the other thread you linked I think I am going to try cyberon voice commander. I could save a couple of dollars/euros buying their voice dialler, but as far as I can see it needs training to attach voice tags to contacts. I don't like the idea of spending time to do that.
This seems like such a basic feature these days, why the hell hasn't it got it?!!!
this is very disappointing news. all the reviews i looked at mentioned voice dialing as a feature. and i just ordered a blueant q2. just tried using voice dial on my phone menu. awful.
i found a retail site online that says the blueant q2 is not compatible with the htc one x and identified several other bluetooth items (including blueant) that are. i decided to try the jawbone era and have it on order. not as many desirable (to me) features as the q2, but if it works, it will be a step up from nothing.
online site is htcpediadotcom. i don't know how reliable it is; first time i've looked at it.
I only just noticed yesterday that the phone would not send the bluetooth connection to the head unit in my car, even though it was connected to it.
I had to use the phones loudspeaker....
All of the Android phones in the past 2 years have worked fine!
