Looking for a good bluetooth rom - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Ok I have my first Windows Mobile phone it is a Cingular 8525 unlocked sim unlocked and CID unlocked and all that good stuff. I recently upgraded to Windows mobile 6 I can't remember the exact rom but it was something Black.
I do a lot of bluetoothing with my phones and am looking for a good rom for bluetoothing. Mainly I make ringtones and bluetooth them to people or whole songs. But recently I purchased a bluetooth headset and am wanting the best quality out of it. I do a lot of texting too so speed needs to be good. Any suggestions?

upgrade to the Dopod Official release ROM or use the latest Black ROM.... they are both the same and its the latest stable Bluetooth from Microsoft...

Also maybe I just haven't looked far enough but is it possible to let other non-wm phones send files through bluetooth to a wm phone?

No need to. The current BT implementation is kinda working, but it waaaay too far from being feature rich and reliable. He-he ... am I talking about BT or MS overall ? Anyhow I just tested OBEX push - failed both ways - sending or receiving a file from SE phone.

Questions for WM5 users

Hey everyone just wanted to know if there is any great reason to upgrade to WM5. im currently using asia O2 Rom with latest BT stack and Radio.
That rom comes with WMP10 so is there any real reason to upgrade?
Whats new in WM5?
sorry if this has already been discussed but i couldnt find a thread relating to it in search!
Okay i think its for this reasons:
- ringtones and caller pictures in contacts application of Outlook Mobile
- new and better office version with Powerpoint mobile!
- you can work more often with one Hand (Soft Buttons, better UI)
- persistent Storage
- it is more reliable
- it looks really cool!

So it is more stabil? Is the Bluetooth and WIFI also better?
All workarounds seem to work now. I can't tell you that about BT, but Wifi works really fine!
How long does your wifi take to connect to the AP when you turn on the unit? If I use one of the "fixes" for WiFi it just won't connect.

(1) Is XDA Orbit unlocked ? (2) Anyone tried Skype ?

Just a few questions to those that have already bought
1. Is it SIM unlocked ?My XDA Exec was, so I assume O2 is carrying on the tradition ?
2. How is skype performance over wifi ?
many thx
c.
dunno about the sim lock
to use skype you need to boost the CPU to 264Mhz otherwise it can handle voice on skype properly
its easliy done and when done works perfect
I use Skype with it, works very slow, voice does work kind of delayed.... but still.... intrested to know how you over clock it though?

Do a search for 'omapclock', its freeware. I've got my Orbit overclocked to 264mhz and its much zippier through the menus. I've got skype installed as well but haven't got around to trying it via wifi yet.

Hi
I used omapclock - does it but does not keep it all the time??
any suggestions.
Tried the current Skype Version today without overclocking the device.
SkypeOut works great for me AFTER disabling 3 codecs in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Skype/Phone/Audio/DisableCodecs
Put into the field: ILBC G729 EG711U
That disables 3 codecs.
Calls to the Skype-Echo/Sound-Test won't work - but SkypeOut worked fine for me via WiFi - but only through the hands-free speaker of the phone.
Any idea how to use the normal speaker?

I've posted a question in an Eten forum re using the normal speaker. The X500 has an app that switches Skype from the handsfree to the normal speaker.
Still on Skype, a version 2.2 (beta) has been released yesterday that has been optimised to work on 200MHz processors. Is this the one you have tried, and in this case how is the quality in general?
No, I tried the "old" one from December 11.
The German Skype website doesn't provide the new version yet - I had to switch to the English site.
I'll test the new 2.2 Version this evening.
Anyone tested this app (what's it called?) from the x500 to use the normal speaker?

Re. the X500 I'm hoping to receive a reply as to what registry settings need to be changed, and I've also asked if the CAB with the app can be extracted. I'll post the reply when I receive one.
EDIT: StiflersMom - When testing Skype 2.2 could you please try without/with overclocking (if indeed you overclock) and tell us about the separate results?
sooooo, have you unlocked your artemis? i have a MDAc 3, and it is still unlocked, can somebody help me? Please!

I read somewhere that Omapclock settings are lost after switching the phone off. Try BatteryStatus instead (freeware). Despite the name it has several other options, including cpuspeed settings.

Just plonked my Orange sim into an O2 XDA Orbit and works fine so looks like they are sim free.
I have used skype lite version over GPRS. it worked, and i was able to talk to other ppl, but the gprs speed is very slow so my voice was crackling a lot, while other person's voice did come in a bit clear.
will try with wifi sometime soon!
Just used Skype 2.2 over Wifi to my land line and it was as good as any phone no issue so far any way. Pretty sure i wasnt overclocked at the time. I was happy enough to load up £10 quids qorth of credit ( though seems scammy to buy 10 quid credit and have to pay 11.50 :/ inc tax.
Does anyone know a tester to test stabillity of the overclock ? its really dangerious for me i cant help but keep trying a higher oc had at 280 for 5 seconds before i chickened out lol only had less then a day
I have the 3.1 ROM with cube thingy and it has a, um for lack of better word menu bar, i press and hold for a moment to access the options. There you can set the OC to stay on always.
I dont know how far too push it ( i overclock everyhting any way i used to over clock my crt monitor lol ) but without stabillity test i am abit worried i'll screw the rom or somthing.
FYI on the overcloking the hotter it gets usually decreases the mount you can overclock stabally, this prog also shows temp, my one seemed perfectly stable at 247 @ 40c quite warm i had wifi going full and was streaming radio, also shows power pulled its pretty damn neat... i am luvin my orbit i have had it almost 24 hours now lol nd thanks too all the good work done by people have it pretty tweaked and close to near how i want it very quickly a hours instead of days n maybe weeks so thsnks
Ed oh i baught mine off ebay it was a month old when i got it and it was sim unlocked but not CID unlocked. payed £200 seems good to me concidering the tomtom i baught as a prezzy forsomeone came in over £100.

Upgrade to WM6 successful but PDA has slowed down.....

I was over the moon when I heard I could load WM6 on my TyTN....
my phone is now slower than it was before.......why would this be?
battled to get active sync working again. MS Active Sync 4.5 installed Outlook 2002 but it has not serial number....where do I get this from?
I was hoping they would release GPS software for this phone but it dont like it.... Anyone know if there is GPS software available? I know about the navigate software but that's the same as having a map book or street guide.
What has your experience been after upgrading your TyTN OS to WM6?
What are the new features in WM6? To me it still looks the same in terms of functionality.....
Bless u...
but u know almost every Tytn got slower when upgraded to WM6(it's not real WM Version6 but a Second Edition of WM5). According to a developer of Microsoft in Asia Research Center, WM5SE has a memory limit which only allows 32 process in a row therefore we can see WM5SE(the so called WM6) cannot handle memory well.
That's the reason why Tytn got slower...
can i downgrade to WM5 again?
sure
downgrades are don like upgrades...
Is there any GPS software available for the HTC?
where would I get WM5 from? HTC site or google?

Not sure why your upgrade seems slower, but my upgrade from the official WM6 upgrade from the HTC site went smooth as butter and everything seems faster for me. I've also noticed that it boots up a bit faster and I don't get errors from Xpress mail upon boot ups. The only thing I did notice was that it used up a bit more memory than WM5. My bluetooth head piece connects faster/better, I don't have to soft reset nearly as often as I did with Wm5 either. The messaging program has a few new features that I like too. I actually like my Tytn now. Unfortunately, Youtube still doesn't work out of the box and requires the flash bundle upgrade and that other video player TMCMP or what ever its called.
I use SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Pocket Plus and they work flawlessly with WM6. Overall, this was the best thing to happen since I got this phone in August.

Hi,
Clearly either I have done something wrong, or there is something wrong with the phone. Is there a particular order in which this upgrade should be done?
My PDA is slow opening applications and I am battling with Active Sync 4.5
It displays an error each time and I dont know what it means. I have tried to google the error but cannot pick up anything.
I want to downgrade to WM5. Where can I download it from? I only find the SDK version of WM5. Any ideas where I can get WM5 from. I dont see it on HTC website either
Any help will do.
Thanks
I'd begin by reading Mr. Vanx's downgrade guide
You can use some registry tweaks/settings to improve responsiveness of your device if your flash goes ok. Official release ROMs are slower than cooked ROMs - so your choice also matters. For me the performance of WM6 has always been superior in comparison to WM5.

I780 and Skype

Hey guys,
Some people are claiming that Skype works properly on their I780... For me it doesn't... I can use it with a headset or the handsfree but the internal speaker (the one for normal phone calls) doesn't work. I've tried several Roms to check if there is one which makes Skype work but nothing worked...
So, I was just wondering if you could tell me about your experience with Skype. Is it working properly for you? If so, please let me know what you did to make it work.
Thanks guys!
no comments about skype on the I780? Does nobody wanna use it?

As far as I know, Skype, or any other software, can't use the speaker that you would normally use for phone calls on Windows Mobile devices. Only the internal phone- and VoIP-application of Windows Mobile is allowed to use the speaker of the phone. All other applications must use the speaker on the back.
So there is no way to get this to work, unless Microsoft adds access to this speaker through their API.
I use Skype sometimese and it's really driving me mad that I can't use it with built-in phone speaker or BT headset.
It also seems not using all available bandwidth so the quality is only acceptable.
skype works on my i780.
one day i was in samsung service centre to upgrade my rom, the samsung service personel noticed my i780 had skype installed. he asked how i managed to get it works. lol
i told him i dont know, i just download and install

So you are saying that your skype is working properly? You can use the earpiece of the phone to call people? Sorry man, but I think you are confusing something. I found out that some people thought their earpiece would be working but what they heard came from the handsfree speaker. If you turn down the volume of the handsfree speaker, it kind of sounds like the internal earpiece speaker... Can you check again please?
the phone would be just perfect with skype functionality but it cant use the normal earpiece...
Did anyone find a solution?
Maybe Skype Mobile 3 Beta is worth of checking out.
for my skye works (even trough normal built in speaker), but only wifi. Is it posible my provider (t-mobile nl) has disabled the port or something?
It looks like some of you don't pay atenttion to what is written here, and keeps asking the same question.
As Ralph said, there is no way to get around it. It's not just a Skype problem, It doesn't work with all the others third party applications.
The same thing happends with the front camera in all the Instant Messengers. It just doens't work.

I have the same problem but I found a trick!!
Launch Skype with no wifi.
Switch Wifi on (it is fine even if u are in an area with protected only or no access point at all).
You'll notice that your status will become available (green).
Switch Wifi off.
Don't ask me why.....but it seems to work!!

Do you mean that you can hear Skype call via earpiece?? Are u sure? It is not supported by skype it self!! In my opinion you are confusing the sound source. I'll be more than happy to be wrong.

I am really disappointed in skype discontinuing their software for Winmo. What the hell are they thinking? Do they think that no one uses Winmo? Well I discontinued their service so thats the end of it. Anyone else with me?

I think what they're thinking is that wm6.x is dead, beacuse it basically is. WM6 apps apparently won't run on wm7 and I can't see many new wm6 devices being released now.
So what is the point them updating the old Skype cab ? None really. And how much server space should they dedicate to a dead app running on a dead OS when I'm sure it's possible to find the cab file on alternative sites? I have Skype installed on my TP2 and it still works fine, so they've not disconnected us, they're just not updating us.
If I were you I'd place the blame more on Microsofts decision to ditch compatibility than Skype

I have not heard about WM6 programs not running on WM7. Backwards compatibility is generally standard. Of course, programs written for a stylus would not make much sense.

A friend of mine is working on Windows Phone 7. He tells me that its OS is incompatible with the former Windows Mobile 6.x
Interesting, he said, at the kernel level, Windows Mobile 6.x is based on Windows 95 while Windows Phone 7 is based on Windows Vista.
Thanks for the link, defaultdotxbe, but unfortunately I cannot get the software to work properly. I can make a call, but there is no outgoing ring on my end and I can't hear anything when the other phone answers.

Thanks, but I have already found the cab for it and its function is giving me a headache. I don't like using BT nor the speaker and audioroute didn't help either because when my ear touches the phone it triggers unwanted actions and when I turn the screen off, the phone becomes useless. Then there are 2 types of ringtones when I make a call - one of them is very loud, annoying and rings a few seconds longer even after the other line answers it which most of the time they ended up hanging up on me. The second ringtone is much softer and accurate. However, every call I make the ringtone becomes random which is very irritating. Then there is the dialing screen which does not respond well to my touchscreen. It sometimes switches to another tab when I try to hangup and then at time it freezes. Well, basically the cab is outdated and isn't working very well for me.

I believe that skype is the one that have ditched us. WM6 is still heavily used by many people, especially by us in here. Also, the new HTC HD2 in the US is supporting wm6 and that can't be ignored. WM7 isn't even official yet so why did skype cut us out a long time ago? Or maybe I don't fully understand how this microsoft OS thing works, but I'm still disappointed in skype.
