Delays to wake up when microSD is inserted!!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi,
I started to use this 2GB Sandisk microSD from yesterday and I noticed that it takes A LOT longer time for my hermes to wake up when the microSD is inserted. Are there anyone else who are having this problem? I am using DOPOD official WM6 rom. It certainly takes quicker to wake up if i take the microSD out and it's annoying to think that it will even give me some more delays for phone rings..
Will this be improved if I use other microSD cards with faster speed? or Are there any fixes that you geniuses made?
Please help!
Cheers

You may just as well find out that some mSD/drivers may count with the official generators of SOD. If you bump into this you may want to search this forum for further info.

I have a 2GB sandisk card, and I have experienced some delays on resume from standby. They seem to vary, but mainly under a second, max 2 seconds. The phone still rings ok, and I don't experience "screen of death" with most WM6 ROMs, as long as I keep my today screen pretty simple.

How does the P3600i compare to P3600? More reliable?

I was on the fence about buying the 3600 when I read of many people having problems with the screens going out, system slowing down when touching the screen, and the metal peeling, slow performance, ect. I didn't realize that there was a new one, 3600i. Has anyone had any similar issues with it? How is it compared to the 3600 as far as reliability? I believe this would be my perfect device if it just supported SDHC.

The P3600i does support SDHC, at least to 4Gb. Can't test higher capacity mini-SDHC cards yet, not available here.
Oh, BTW, the Quick Fix GPS cab file does work, despite the "placebo" sceptics. Tested exhaustively now for 4 weeks. It downloads ephemeris data from http://www.htcusainc.com/clm as packedEphemeris.ee for NMEA mode. This is exactly, precisely, the same data file for SirfIII GPS in NMEA mode.
TTFF is now 30-60 seconds. Before, 5-10 mins, about which I had justifiable criticism.
Regional setting HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\QuickGPS\region
needs to be correct. I'm using AU for obvious reasons.
The P3600i is now in my view as close to perfection as I may wish.
ROM and RAM higher than 3600,so I think the speed will be higher and stable when run large program.for example,Map guide, etc.
Ian,
I am surprised to ear that P3600 support SDHC 4Go because i bought mine 2 weeks ago and before buying a mini SD i put the question to HTC and got this answer:
Dear Sir,
Unfortunately the HTC P3600 does not support the mini-SDHC format cards, only standard mini-SD. The maximum size you are able to use in the device is 2GB.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html
So i was just prepared to buy a 2GB mini SD, can you confirm that a 4GB SDHC works on a long term basis?
About quickGPS do we have to launch it only every 7 days and nothing else than starting normaly our GPS software (tomtom)? I tried qGPS but i do not see any difference in the fixing time after starting tomtom.
My p3600 Italian version supports SDHC. I'm using a 4GB right now.
8Gb sdhc
Hi!
I using 8Gb micro sdhc card with minisd adapter, and it's work in my p3600.

There is the P3600 according to HTC and the P3600 according to XDA-Developers.
The P3600 according to HTC: WM5, no SDHC, and 4GB-Mini-SD (without HC) is not really a standard so nobody will assure compatibility.
The P3600 according to XDA: WM6, SDHC-compatible due to a new driver.
Beware: There are a lot of different flavours of WM6, as they are built by different persons, not directly by HTC. Their reliability is very different, read the threads to judge whether a built is more shiny, more stable or both.
QuickGPS does not work on the P3600, the standard rule is valid: Don't move until you get a fix. You might save up to 10 minutes.
Have fun!

Phone Lock Up Situation Solved

I've been using a 4gb Sd Card for awhile and notice it takes awhile to load my files from it on my phone. I've been Experiencing alot of lock ups to where I can't do anything but remove the battery and reboot the phone. Lock ups happend most when the phone wasn't busy. So Reading upon Tmobile Dash and memory cards I decided to change the card and switch out my 4gb with a 1gb and now my phone is flying. Definetely a huge change in speed entering menus and browsing. No More Lock Up's. So what's the deal with wanting to use a larger SD card without getting the lock up's and running smooth.

Are you running 6.1 or are you still on wm6?
I'm running on 6.1 which enables the access of reading up to 4gb cards without version 6.1 there is no 4gb access no matter what format the card is in.

1. Actually you can run a 4gb card in a stock t-mobile dash if you install the SDHC support .cab file
2. Your lock up problem, and speed problem sounds like a defective card. I run a 16gb card with little speed decrease compared to a 4 or 8 gb card. Generic cards have problems, I stick with sandisk and never have a trouble.. they are worth the couple extra bucks for stability reasons alone
That's Exactly the card im using is a SanDisk and its 4gb. I dont use any other brand but Sandisk. Only $40 at Radio Shack. I Decided to go back to Wm6 tmobile's Version seems more stable on my phone. Haven't had a lock up since I went back to Wm6. Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna look into the SDHC Support and see if the cab file does any wonders for this version of 6.0 instead of 6.1.

Ok let me get this correct your first post was a question? Your second post was a quote, your third post was ignoring any help given and reverting to a ROM that doesn't accept SDHC without the SDHC support .cab
No lockup no SDHC card could it be a coincidence??? So my finding are you have no findings and a WM6 phone

Bought New MicroSD, Got New Problems

Hi chaps
Purchased a Kingston Class 4 32GB MicroSD today
However, since inserting this card to my phone it has become unrealistically slow. Lagging all over, force closing to no end & just extremely sluggish & unresponsive on many tasks. Forget browsing the music/picture library, it just shows the 'loading' icon etc. Everything related to the SD takes ages to load or cache.
I've tried formatting, rebooting etc & this persists. I can't for the life of me understand this. As you can imagine this is extremely frustrating coming from a stock Class 2 SD 8GB Card. Is there a particular procedure in which to format the card or something else?
Looking like a right waste of money thus far 'sigh'
Cheers
Looks like I jumped the gun, seems like the phone was just sorting itself out but all is in order. If a mod passes eyes on this thread, please close.

[Q] Arc and memory card

I've checked XDA for a similar thread but I could not find one. Sorry if there's a similar thread though, I'm still an XDA noob
I am using a Kingston 8GB class 4 microSDHC card and most of my apps are stored on it + music, pictures, everything. After (doesn't matter here, it can be 1 hour, 1 day, 5 minutes) 1 hour of idling (standby), the card gets disconnected and reconnects ! I have access to my music and pictures but my apps would simply not work anymore! It's frustrating to reboot my phone just to be able to resume reading or resume my Cut The Rope fun. This can happen up to 4 times a day. It's happening from day 1 since I bought it Is buying another card an option? Is it the phone's fault? Am I the noob here?
u can test it by using another microsd.. if it goes ok, then its ur microsd problem..
if not, maybe either a phone sw or hw..

Thank you very much for your very fast reply. I will get a new memory card and will see how it goes. What memory card do you use? Does your Arc behave like mine?
Patriot 32GB Class 10 works fine for me.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
I use a KingMax 16GB Class 10 card and have never experienced the issue you've described.
As for getting your apps back, I would imagine you'd need to reboot.

External SD vs. cold temperatures (solved)

Guess this is mostly a canadian concern, but has anyone else's external SD mysteriously been deactivated when the phone is exposed to temperatures below freezing for relatively long periods of time ?
For example, taking a walk outside for +/- 30 minutes when the temperature is around -10°C (~ 14°F).
It behaves exactly as if it's being manually deactivated in Setting --> Storage.
The card comes back to life after leaving the phone untouched for 5 minutes on the table upon returning to "normal" room temperature (~ 21°C / 70°F).
Never encountered this issue with the exact same SD card in my good ol' GS1 (i9000m), so I'm wonderring if it's the GS3 that doesn't tolerate the cold very well of if it's my SD card that's getting old.
---
EDIT
It was indeed the external SD card that seemed to be the problem. Switched temporarily to a 16Gb SD from my old GS1 i9000m and couldn't reproduce. Have bought a Sandisk Ultra 64Gb Class 10 micro SD card since then and couldn't reproduce with it either.
Glad it's not the phone! :victory:
Re: External SD vs. cold temperatures
I've had stuff like this happen, (Canadian as well). I always thought it was due to moisture but it's never been a big issue
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Normal Operating Temperatures for SD Cards are: -13ºF to 185ºF (-25ºC to 85ºC)
There's a possibility that the SIII can't read the SD cards under cold conditions?
I'm not 100% sure, as I've only owned my S3 for a week and a half, and still playing and tweaking it..
I also live in Canada (Montreal), so our weather conditions are about the same.. So i will let you know if i encounter this problem or not?
I would try to re-format your card?? maybe that will help??
Use the Panasonic SD Formatter Software for Windows, and then I format inside my S3 for best performance.
Try that, maybe it will help???
It's an issue when :
Your camera is set to record images/videos on that SD card and you want to use it
You meet someone on your way and want to show that person pictures you've taken

If you're courageous enough, go take a walk outside today, or this evening, and see if you can reproduce.
Temperature a freakin' cold enough for it to happen these days! lol
Also, it's been discussed that most people think that SanDisk Extreme III is the SD card for extreme temperatures.
Which brand? is it?

Lexar 16Gb ... class 6
But like I said, this exact same card used to be in my GS1 and never encountered this issue back then.
Re: External SD vs. cold temperatures
I had an issue last week where, when I was outside on a job site, my sd card became corrupted. Lost everything on it and the card was damaged so badly I couldn't even reformat it to get it working. Had to get a new card. Don't know if it was coincidental or not. It was only about -4 C.
Mine got corrupted as well the first time as I didn't expect this to happen.
I kept trying to access it up to a point where when it was available again it got corrupted.
Had to format it and lost everything.
Since then, when this happens, I let the phone sit for a while and never had data corruption since.
Still curious to know if this is phone or memory related...
