Excel Version 6.1 problem - P3600 ROM Development

I am using the mUn cooked ROM 2.0.
When I create a spreadsheet with Excel I am having this problem after I close the file and try to reopen it "An error occurred while opening the file .... The file may be corrupt". Any ideas why this is happening and how can I fix it ?
Thanks a lot in advance.

You have to go to settings -> regional settings -> and on decimal symbol change it to a simple dot "."
and in the digit grouping symbol change the "." for a ","

Thank you but I tried your advise and unfortunately "no joy". Still the same problem. Any other ideas?

Well I had the same problem and did change those 3 fields for being equivalent with the original rom language (english)
I didn't had more corrupted files but couldn't fix the ones that got corrupted before...

You were right, it worked. It does not fix the already corrupted files, but it does not create any new more. Thank you very much for the support. I dont know how to repay but you might have a look on my manual on how to disassemble your Trinity in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311463
My best regards!

Already tried, also followed the wiki.... Keyboard is OK. just the space key doesnt change to äöüéàè
You can try to duplicate the file sym.0409.txt in the windows folder and name this new file sym.0407.txt. It worked for me for the french keyboard (sym.040C.txt in french).
What Atmis said, I simply modified the sym.0409.txt file in /Windows so I easily could type Swedish characters such as å,ä & ö with a/o + space. You need to copy it over to your computer with active sync, edit the file then move it back.

Already tried to copy the origional sym.409.txt to sym.407.txt (german) but when i press the "blue" space nothing happens.
You need to replace the sym.0409.txt file if your OS is in English.

Actually i've 3 files (for testing) sym.0409.txt, sym.0407.txt, sym.txt and it does not work.
Having Hermes with QWERTZ keyboard (switzerland) and English WM6 (Vanilla)
That's interesting. I had the same issues when upgrading my device to AKU 3.3. After some changing forward backward between English and German Keyboard it suddenly worked.
I also upgraded a second device and I cannot get the space key working to change between the special letters.
I know it does not help but maybe it's an device bug. I will downgrade the device the other device when I can get it back again and see if it works with the original image.
It was working flawlessly for me, I just had to reboot the device after creating the new file.

... After HardReset, installing the "German Input Cab", modifiying sym.0409.txt and a reboot everything is working fine...
Probably some manipulation described in the wiki i made before installing the cab made the changes...
finally it works. thanks to all
Ehm. I am not trying to sound stupid or anything. but how do I find this"sym.409.txt"? I would like to change some of the keys into norwegian symbols like æ, ø and å.
I have just heard something about the root folder.
But in that case. where is it, I assume that I am just being blind or something but.
THanks for your help

Not blind, the file is hidden, at least on my system with Josh Manulla2D.
To see the file in Windows, using File Explorer, click on "Menu/Show All Files".
My problem is that I have made changes for my German keyboard on an English language install, but I cannot replace the file in \Windows. All I get is an Access Denied message.
Anybody know how I can get past this to replace the sym.409.txt file?
Task Manager is installed so surely it must be some service that needs killing to free up the file.
Regards
Peter
Not sure what's the issue.

PLEASE MAKE THESE POSTS STOP. check the wiki. its is in there under registry settings.
The fixes on the wiky won't work (at least for italian)
If I set the keyboard language to italian my hardware keyboard begin to work but not in full
IE:
Before update blue+C gave ";" now gives ":" (as it should)
but blue+space (after a key, ie a vovel) don't make the previous letter change
FOR example..
With my previous rom if I type "a" and then blue+space my "a" was changed to "à" now this doesn't happen..
Moreover the software keyboard layout doesn't change.
Any hint on how to fix both?

No solution for the soft keyboard loayout, but for your "blue-space" problem, all you have to do is overwrite the file sym.0409.txt with one that fits your needs. You can edit it yourself, it's very simple: each line starts with the letter you want to get replaced, and then all letters that can replace it follow in the same line.
Cheers
Daniel
Many thanks tadzio
I'll update the wiki accordingly
I double checked my sym.0409.txt file...
It already contains everything I needed.
The problem for the BLUE+SPACE arose when I changed the code in the keyboard registry..
Before this change it worked but I had the problem on BLUE+C (";" instead of ":")
Any hints?
Since you likely changed the Hardware Keyboard to "20410" - try making a copy of the sym.0409.txt and rename it to sym.0410.txt. After I did this and soft-reset, it works as it should...
Hope that helps
Solomon

Change regional Settings from Registry

Hi, i want to change this setting from Start, settings, system, regional settings by a registry key/cab file.
I've noticed that it's stored into HKLM\Security\ColdInit\
Locale = countrycode (in my case 1040 dec)
But the reg key is restored after a SR, also if i reset with an app
Is there another key that influences this one?
Ps: i've also tried changing
\HKLM\System\ObjectStore\RegistryType=0
But no suxcess... is important to Localize the rom with a cab wich contains spell check, dictionary etc...
Mate I think I found what you're looking for:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls]
"LegacyLocaleMode"=dword:1
"DefaultLCID"=dword:xxx
"SystemLCID"=dword:xxx
Replace xxx by language code. '413' is Dutch (The Netherlands) for example. For the codes see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms834426.aspx#locplatform30_codepages
Better late than never
Changing those registry values cannot switch the regional settings immediately, not like doing this through start->settings->regional settings.
Is there any way (any command, program) to activate those registry values immediately, rather than a soft-reset?
Thanks!
No, you would need a program to recall these settings.

Edit the registry so you keyboard language will reflect your system language:
Goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal.
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in hexadecimal).
The suitable value for German Hermes keyboard is 20407 (132103 in decimal).
The suitable value for Spanish Hermes keyboard is 2040a (132106 in decimal).
Probably Hermes use 20+country ID (409=WWE, 407=German, 404=Trad. Chinese, etc...) format for keyboard layout value.
After changing these settings soft reset the device to make it work.
If you are using Cingular device there should be a CAB floating around, use search.
i tried to search...i used the cingular wap settings but didn't find another cingular cab...if you can post it here...it would be greatly appreciated...
i just tried changing the registry...to the english one...it doesn't work?

I am using Google to find what needed on this site. If you use good search query you will get better results than with integrated search (and usually it is faster too ).

A lot of it may be that we have read a lot of posts and happen to remember which thread it was in, however, I just did a search to see if I could find it.
"Cingular keyboard fix cab" is what I used. It was the third post down. When looking for a file, just click the little paperclip and it will show all the available files in that thread.
Much easier than reading 400 posts.
Enjoy the forum

I downloaded this path but i am not sure what to do with them after extracting them. I am new to upgrading my hermes. I am running Schap's 4.31 rom. I am trying to get my keyboard to operate correctly. I tried a few of the ways above and have failed.

You can use
1) advanced config to set the keyboard language
2) DONT extract the cab, just copy it to your phone, then click on it in file explorer, it will install then.

I entered 40409 in "Decimal" and it worked after a soft reset.
Previously I entered 20409 and it did not.
Edit: I have some buttons which still do not work.
The ' and &.
Frustrating!
Yawn....
HTCustom took care of restoring my keyboard layout.
Thanks to the original coder of HTCustom....

The file you need to change is the Bkgnd_Port.bmp in the windows folder. I think the letters are drawn over this background. I tried to change this file but I faced 2 issues:
1. When saved the file size went from 27Kb -> 220Kb
2. The Greek letters added on the top left corner of eah button were not displayed correctly on the phone.
I suppose I'm not using the right program for editing the Bkgnd_Port.bmp
If you try to change it, too you have to copy it with Total Commander and the soft reset.
Any ideas?

Hmm i give it a try tommorow.. thanks m8
I've edited the Bitmap and I also got a ~220K file.
I've tried it and the dialer is still putting the numbers/English characters bitmaps on top of the Bkgnd_Port file so it's blocking the new characters I've added.
