WM6 German Keyboard (Space to change a ->ä) - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Help needed
Using VW6 (Vanilla) on a Germen Hermes. Hardware Keyboard works fine except the space key to change a -> ä, u ->è etc.
Does anybody solved this issue ?
Didn't found any solution on the forum.
Thx

Already tried, also followed the wiki.... Keyboard is OK. just the space key doesnt change to äöüéàè

You can try to duplicate the file sym.0409.txt in the windows folder and name this new file sym.0407.txt. It worked for me for the french keyboard (sym.040C.txt in french).

What Atmis said, I simply modified the sym.0409.txt file in /Windows so I easily could type Swedish characters such as å,ä & ö with a/o + space. You need to copy it over to your computer with active sync, edit the file then move it back.

Already tried to copy the origional sym.409.txt to sym.407.txt (german) but when i press the "blue" space nothing happens.

You need to replace the sym.0409.txt file if your OS is in English.

Actually i've 3 files (for testing) sym.0409.txt, sym.0407.txt, sym.txt and it does not work.
Having Hermes with QWERTZ keyboard (switzerland) and English WM6 (Vanilla)

That's interesting. I had the same issues when upgrading my device to AKU 3.3. After some changing forward backward between English and German Keyboard it suddenly worked.
I also upgraded a second device and I cannot get the space key working to change between the special letters.
I know it does not help but maybe it's an device bug. I will downgrade the device the other device when I can get it back again and see if it works with the original image.

It was working flawlessly for me, I just had to reboot the device after creating the new file.

... After HardReset, installing the "German Input Cab", modifiying sym.0409.txt and a reboot everything is working fine...
Probably some manipulation described in the wiki i made before installing the cab made the changes...
finally it works. thanks to all

Ehm. I am not trying to sound stupid or anything. but how do I find this"sym.409.txt"? I would like to change some of the keys into norwegian symbols like æ, ø and å.
I have just heard something about the root folder.
But in that case. where is it, I assume that I am just being blind or something but.
THanks for your help

Not blind, the file is hidden, at least on my system with Josh Manulla2D.
To see the file in Windows, using File Explorer, click on "Menu/Show All Files".
My problem is that I have made changes for my German keyboard on an English language install, but I cannot replace the file in \Windows. All I get is an Access Denied message.
Anybody know how I can get past this to replace the sym.409.txt file?
Task Manager is installed so surely it must be some service that needs killing to free up the file.
Regards
Peter

Dictionary Editor and Autocomplete

Hi,
Is there a version of Dictionary Editor that works with WM6? And... how I can change the Dictionary language, I need to change only the dictionary, not any other thing, I mean, keyboard layout, etc. Is there a .ca for that?.
Regards,
Taguapire.
I am using the program/cab file I obtained from this site and it seems to be working well on vp3G's 3.0.

Isn't this custom behavior? All words I write in Norwegian seems to get added to the dictionary, even phrases. This has been the same for all WM6 roms I've tried (Black Satin isn't one of them though).

Unfortunately DictEditor does not support WM6 yet. And WordCorrector will support WM6 only in the next version (which I hope to release soon). SpellChecker works with WM6 without changing anything.
Currently, one WM6 user is helping me to do some "detective" work and hopefully find out what file/database actually contains the word completion dictionary in WM6. Too bad I don't own a WM6 device yet, else the hunting/development process should be able to speed up.
i forget the name of the file in the rom but its a .txt file and its located near the preconfig.txt if you search a rom dump sorted by type. i have edited the text and it worked its pretty easy just need to dump the rom thats all.

I hope you are referring to the word completion dictionary rather than the auto correct dictionary.
Dictionaries in WM5 and earlier:
1) Word Completion: dyncompdict.dat
2) Spell Checking: custom.dic
3) Auto correct: autocorrect.txt
Dictionaries in WM6:
1) Word Completion: ???
2) Spell Checking: custom.dic
3) Auto correct: autocorrect.0409.txt (for English ROM)
I hope someone figures out the "missing link" so that I can work on an update for DictEditor soon.

It would be really handy to find out which file holds the Word Completion dictionary - I've got a few duff entries in mine (on my Universal), so I'd like to delete the whole lot.

vicott, I'm using HTC Touch and I installed HTC PhonePad. I also installed your T9Editor, but when I run it, it always says "HTC Phone Pad is not installed in your device." I have already did a soft reset, chose PhonePad as SIP and the error message still pops up.

I received quite a couple of irrelevent e-mails regarding this post lately, so I have to clarify here once & for all.
Firstly, I was only referring to an update for T9Editor (I was only responmding to a query if you guys have read the earlier posts), which is one of the 6 "sub-programs" in the DictMgr suite.
Secondly, T9Editor is only used for modifying the dictionary used by HTC Phone Pad.
Thirdly, 5 of the 6 "sub-programs" in DictMgr suite are already compatible with WM6 all the while. The only one that is not compatible is DictEditor.
Next, the update for T9Editor (which is also included in the latest version of DictMgr) has already been released. Please go to my website to download it.
Lastly, DictEditor (used to modify the word completion dictionary in WM5 and below) is not compatible with WM6 because the word completion dictionary file is a different file (different filename and location) in WM6. To add on to the misery, the file structure is totally different. That makes it highly challenging to develop a dictionary editor for it since I haven't read about anybody "deciphering" how the file works YET.

Update:

Japanese input/output windows moble 6

Does any one know how to get japanese input and output on the ATT 8525 and ATT 8925 (8925 running WM6, 8525 will be running WM6)? I currently have a free program that does this on WM5 but it doesn't want to work on WM6 (See Link). When I install it on WM6 it makes the keyboard not work.
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=217045
I tried this however it only has support for input, not output, which I need.
Any recommendations. Keep in mind I would like to stay on the free side of things. I'm cheep
For the Kaiser http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333507
For the Hermes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298919
It is possible and free. Read read read!
Edit: Just read your thread. Looks like you are having trouble because it is a Kaiser, right? Check that Kaiser thread. One reg edit is all you need. Also, don't install that Bagoj stuff. Stick to the original WM5 input. It is running smooth on my WM6 Hermes.
i have the hermes. Thanks ill take a look.
Wow, you've got a Hermes and it is still messing up the keyboard!? Well, when and if you have trouble, I will be watching this thread.
yea the hermes doesn't have WM6 on it yet cause ATT hasn't released it. I have it working on it now but my testing with the TYTN 2 tells me that im going to run into this problem when i upgrade the phone.

I build my own ROM with Japanese input/output using Pandora Kitchens with 3.62 ROM. I have made some packages for this with all files from Japanese WM5, not from any commercial third parties. If you are interested in it, I can send you a private message with the packages. Let me know.
thank you for the offer, however voiding the phones warranty of the phone is out of the question. The warranty is very important to the company that I work for.
If you can separate the Japanese input/output from the ROM that would be ok by me. One more thing the Japanese input/output needs to work on Windows Mobile 6, as i already have a program that dose this on WM5.
I have yet to try the previous suggestions. I will be trying these most likely tomorrow.

there are a few things you have to do to implement east asian language functions on windows mobile. actually, you can do this without rom cooking.
1) you need to replace wince.nls in windows folder because it is only for western languages. however, it is a rom system file, and simple copy&paste does not make it work.
2) download reloadnls.exe and put it in \Windows\Startup. This makes the new wince.nls work properly. you can download reloadnls.exe from this link:http://www.geocities.jp/hou_ming_2/reloadnls.zip
3) you also need a Japanese font. (for example, msgothic.ac3 from japanese wm6 or windows xp) You can retrieve a font and wince.nls from this zip. http://x01ht.ratn-leaf.com/files/customizer/packages/Japanize_Tiny.zip
4) You also have to change the registry for viewing Japanese texts.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls]
"LegacyLocaleMode"=dword:00000001
"DefaultLCID"=dword:00000411
"DefaultACP"=dword:000003a4
"DefaultOCP"=dword:000003a4
"SystemLCID"=dword:00000411
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink]
"MS PGothic"="\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"MS Gothic"="\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"MS UI Gothic"="\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Courier New"="\\windows\\msgothic.ac3,MS UI Gothic"
"Tahoma"="\\windows\\msgothic.ac3,MS UI Gothic"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SkipTable]
"Tahoma"="005c,00a5,007e,0391-03c9,2026,2116,221a,25a0-25ff"
"Courier New"="005c"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\International]
"ACP"=dword:000003a4
"LCID"=dword:00000411
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI]
"DisableFarEastWordBreak"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\International]
"Default_CodePage"=dword:c6f4
5) After soft rest, you can view Japanese text now.
6) To use MS Japanese IME, you need to copy following files into \Windows. You can find them in Japanese WM5 or you can download from here. http://x01ht.ratn-leaf.com/files/customizer/packages/MSIME.zip
hwxjpn.dll
imjp31.dll
imjp31dx.exe
imjp31k.dll
imjp31s.dic
imjp31s.grm
mboxjpn.96.dll
mboxjpn.dll
msimj.96.dll
msimj.dll
mskana.96.dll
mskana.dll
(You don't need to copy any files in the zip other than files listed above.
7) In the zip above, there are two registry files, defaul.txt and user.txt. Just import them using your favorite registry editor.
8) Soft reset, and you now have a Japanese input function (MS IME) installed in your hermes. However, there is no way to call this function from your keyboard since it is not a japanese keylayout.
9) To call MS IME, you need to assign this function to a key by freeware called PQz. http://1942.rocketspace.net/PQzII/PQzII_20070725_HTC_Hermes.cab
English manual: http://www.nicque.com/PQz/DOC/index_e.htm
Hope you will figure out the way!
Your post is helpful however I am unable to read Japanese. (wish I could) The geocities site you referred me to appears to throw an error but, again, since I cant read Japanese I cant be sure.
I'll give this a shot though
While I am sure qtotter's method works fine, there are easier ways. I myself have a WM6 tytn and get Japanese output/input simply by installing the following two .cabs.
Fonts and wince
http://www.asukal.jp/WM5/LetsJapanNo5.zip
Install and soft reset.
Input, fully accessable from the keyboard
http://hn801.hkes.com/Data/SIP/IME_31J_QVGA_F.zip
Install and soft reset.
You may run into troubles depending on which physical keyboard your tytn has, but these can be solved by a simple registry edit to the keyboard layout key.

i know about LetsJapanNo5.zip, but did not introduce it since i am not sure if usemynls.exe included in the cab is freeware.
as for the ime part, i suppose IME_31J_QVGA_F.zip does exactly what i explained above automatically, and i recommend this way.
as for the keyboard part, if your device has a keyboard with non-japanese layout, you cannot call ime as i explained above since there is no key assign for this function by default. you still need PQzII to map ime function to a key on your keyboard.

What exactly does usemynls.exe do? Does it redirect use of the wince file in Windows to another one? Cause you can just use TotalCommander (or whatever file explorer) to copy over the one in Windows and then do away with usemynls, no?

You sure the tab key (or whatever is just left of the space bar) doesn't function this way if you let the ime cab do its work? What if you edit the registry thusly: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty] "Layout"= 30411 (Hexadecimal base)
Looking at the X01HT and the 8525, the hardware looks exactly the same to me - same number of keys with the same placement.
qtotter, I have a X01HT, so I'll believe you if you say its so, but it just seems weird to me that HTC would make different hardware which looks the same. If you've never tried it yourself, then perhaps pwnage can be our guinea pig.

I tried this and the input seems to be fine however the keyboard refuses to work. I did try a few reg settings in the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1]
Under the preload key I changed "(Default)" from e0010411 to e0010409 (the original reg value).
Under the preload\1 key I changed "(Default)" from ee0010411 to e0010409 (the original reg value).
Now when I switched the values from ee0010411 to e0010409 in both the Japanese input stopped working. When I changed them back they started working (no keyboard).
Am I inputing the wrong reg keys or what?

it ignores the original wince.nls and make the system refer to your own wince.nls stored somewhere else than /window. as i explain before, simple overwrite does not work with rom system files.

no, you are not doing anything wrong. LetsJapanNo5 forces keyboard layout change.
this is what i explained above. 10409 is for the english keyboard layout, and 10411 is for the japanese keyboard layout. since you are using an english keyboard, you need to keep the value 10409. however, it does not have a key assigned to ime call. you simply need to use PQzII to map this function to any key you want.

When you say the keyboard stopped working, do you mean that it just doesn't respond at all, no matter what buttons you press?
Is this on the Tytn or the TytnII?
If this is the TytnII, check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333507&page=2
That guy had problems with his keyboard AND buttons responding, but got everything working with the two .cab files I posted above with one regedit.

You can't use the File Explorer built into WM to overwrite system files, so I use GSFinder. Others use Total Commander. These can copy, delete, whatever to system files.
Anyway, now thanks to your info about usemynsl.exe, I have another 350kb or so free as I was able to overwrite my wince file in Windows (which allows .NET programs to function! YEAH!) and delete the usemynsl and the redundant wince in my Temp folder.

i am not saying you cannot copy and paste different rom system files to your device. even if you copy and paste another wince.nls, the system does not refer to the new wince.nls.
this is the reason why people use usemynsl.exe to force the system to refer to another wince.nls in a different location or reloadnls.exe to force the system to refer to the overwrote wince.nls in /windows.
if you wanna save disk space, i recommend you build your own rom burned with east asian wince.nls like i do.

Uh oh. So what did I do to my tytn?
I copied over the original wince in Windows with the one from LetsJapan in Temp.
I deleted the wince in Temp and moved usemynls so that it wouldn't run on startup.
Everything seems to be running smoothly, and I have soft reset (for other reasons) a few times between now and then...
No problems so far (its been a couple of days), but can I expect them?

Remapping IE button.

Does anyone know how to remap the IE button (T-zones) with the HTC rom? I've searched but I can only find info for the T-mobiel rom. The HTC rom doesn't seem to have the lnk files. Thanks.

Editing the file
Hello, I want to be able to do this but not sure how to edit the file as it has no file extension.
Also, I would like to launch opera mini but its a java midlet so unsure how to reference it directly like you would do a programme.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
Totally stuck
Hi guys,
I am totally lost here. I kindda understand what the Wiki explains but to use it I get stuck. I am completely new to this whole business. bought a used blue angel (everything working on it) with a WM 2003 on it italian language. all I wanted was to swith from italian to english (or WWE as you guys call it). I do know that my ROm is 1.12.24 ITA Radio 1.03 and no value for extRom. that is what it showed when I tried to use one of the numerous updates available on XDA. first it showed me error 102 checksum error then country ID error. so I used the Ruu file and added the Checkceid_1 command as u suggested on wiki for blue angel. anyway I am stuck. now even the WM2003 italian is no longer available since I hard-reseted my BA. all I see now on the screen is windows mobile with some italian gibberish under it.
Serious help needed please.
Thank you

Hi, the zip file only includes a link and not the file itself.
Jonathan
Copy the link to the Windows directory on your phone. This will make the IE button bring up the Task Manager. If you want it to execute something else, edit the link. I used Total Commander for the editing.
Thank you sesinger

Mapping keyboard keys for Hebrew (or any other language)

I found "AE Keyboard Mapper" extremely useful to make my TP2 keyboard produce Hebrew characters.
It first provides you with a simple utility to scan the keyboard for the code produced by a key (or key combination) press.
It then lets you update a config file to make each key code to a corresponding Unicode character code.
and thats about it.
I've used it to create a mapping of the keys to Hebrew but you can do it to any other language.
The attached contain two files:
1) "EA Keyboard Mapper" installation cab
2) Hebrew config file for TP2
First install "AE Keyboard Mapper"
Once the "AE Keyboard Mapper" is installed/
Place the Hebrew config file in the \Program Files\AEKMap directory
Run "AEKMap Settings" utility and select the new layout from the list
Reload AEKMap
Enjoy
P.S. As a few indicated I left a 2 inportent details out
1) The letter "ת" is mapped to the Envelope key on the bottom row.
2) Switching btween English and Hebrew - I have mapped CTRL+"." to do it but you can map you own switching combination with the AEKMapSettings app.

I share your pain and hate to disappoint you but there is no free Hebrew that is compatible with TP2.
With that there is no Hebrew for the TF3D that works on TP2.
If only Ben-Yehuda knew what he is getting us into
To date PDAC is the only Hebrew that would run on TP2 but I had such a bad experience with it on my old TyTN that I wouldn't even consider installing it on my new TP2...
Eliezer would do it better...
anyway - Since I installed PDAC the "fun" key stopped FUNctioning.
do you know this problem ?

I am not sure what skin you refer to but unless its Human (which make sense when it comes to Hebrew support) I am not interested in the skin i.e. TF3D

We need to get one of the guys who did it before (avimak, nir36, alex2003 or the_dude) to give us directions on how to replicate their work on TP2.
These guys refuse to to help us..
I dont really know what the big deal is..
PDAC Hebrew is really slowing down the device =| It doesnt support the hardware keyboard as it is..
Eyron are supposed to release hebrew for our TP2 devices.. hope they do it soon.. =|
I don't really get what you guys are saying:
first, the link I posted IS for TP2 ! or did I miss something ?
second, I didn't get the part about these guys REFUSING to help.
please explain guys
I installed this method together with PDAC, It works great as I type the first 4 letters.. then it just doesnt work anymore =|

Anyone have a cab for Taiwan Chinese Keyboard?
Looking to switch back to Taiwan Chinese keyboard. Haven't figured out AeKeyMap yet, working on it.

Seeing the problem with the FUN key on the PDAC I tried it on the AEKMap and figured it wasn't working
Quickly enough I also found a solution. AEKMap supports an ALT key which doesn't exist on the TP2 keyboard so I have mapped the ALT to the FUN key code and voila we have a working FUN key in Hebrew which means you can write in Hebrew and still use the FUN key to produce "?", "-", "+" etc.
All you have to do is unzip the attached, place it in the \Program Files\AEKMap directory (overwriting the existing file), Unload and reload the AEKMap using the AEKMap-Settings app and you are good to go.
thanks man~!!
i really needed it! you done a great job!
continue like that
well done!

[Samsung i780] Keyboard layouts for all languages - PLEASE ATTACH HERE!

I'm building a tool to hot switch between different keyboard language layouts with a simple soft reset. Can you help me by giving all different keyboard language dlls here? The two files i need are the zylonite_keyboard_xx.dll and sym.xxxx.txt files from your corresponding language.
Please add all these here, and i'll support those many languages! I currently have russian, swedish, german, english with me right now.
here
msn: [email protected]
mail:[email protected]
I will give you the korean .dll
I'm interested with having a i780 rom with french keyboard.
I have a windows 6.1 rom and I found zylonite_keypad_Us.dll and sym.040C.txt but I was not able to copy these file from the phone.
The files are read only and it's impossible to change status with totalcommander program.
Any idea to copy files?

yes man its possible. you need to install resco file explorer http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/ this one works, or SOTI http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=MC
here's a picture from WIP....
currently paused development until i get some time...
Right now, the app switches all registry settings to point to different dlls....so a rom cook needs to embed different language dlls into the rom as modules, and users will have access to different keyboard languages by simply selecting what lang to use
cheers
Thanks for your help Heineken78, I will try.
dreamtheater39, can you give me all registry settings necessary to change keyboard layout?

ufortunately Poirelotto, you will be not able to make it work by replacing only file and cheanging registry settings, replacing can be done only in ROM before cooking.
There is another idea to rename desired zylonite_keyboardUS.dll driver and change registry whereever this filename found to new filename.
Should be working.
Hi Heneken78,
I installed RescoExplorer but it's impossible to copy zylonite_keypad_us.dll because it's properties are : readonly, system,ROM
Any idea to change properties of the file and allowing it to be copied?
Thanks,

i780 spanish keyboard
Hi,
I've got an i780 with Original Spanish ROM (WM 6.0 sadly)
I've searched the files you are looking for, and I found the txt file, but the Zylonite_keyboard_xx.dll doesn't exist on my rom... I found another file called "zylonite_keypad_us.dll", and I've attached it with the txt file.
Hope it will help you.
