I'm using MDA Vario II in UK with LVSW's ROM releases. I have found out that Radio ROM is somewhat unstable - sometimes it just hangs, making Phone feature of Hermes completely unusable (I can use other apps and stuff, tough), unless I do soft reset. It happens quite randomly, for example when I try to initiate/hang-up the call, or receive SMS delivery notification, or do anything which is related with the phone. Sometimes it works perfect for few days, sometimes I can experience these hangs 2-3 times a day.
Tested Radio ROMs are 1.41 and 1.40 - both with same results. Maybe I shall revert to the original Radio ROM from T-Mobile (v1.05 AFAIR)? Any other possible solutions from other T-Mobile UK users around here? Thanks in advance.

I'm using lvsw's + same radio. It work really well for me. not had any of the issues you described with it.
Hi
I have been on the 1.40.30.00 radio rom and had good results although last week when i was in wales my dads stock 1.05 radio with stock Tmobile (older) rom produced better internet stability on 3g than mine did.
That said im was very happy with 1.40.30.00. However i ahve today upgrade to 1.43.00.00 which has a long thread about it in the upgrades channel. (basicly i wanted to see what it was like...)
I would be happy to report back my finding in in the next few days to you.
Thanks for quick replies. One more question - are you using VoIP application? I mean, not simultaneously with GSM/3G, but do you have it enabled with some SIP account and use it occasionally?
Recommend 1.43.00.00
I higly recommend upgrading to radio 1.43.00.00. I'm on T-Mobile UK in London and have been using it since it was released a couple of weeks ago and have no compliants at all. The reception is perfect and data speeds are good.
Battery life is probably the only questionable part, but I haven't really been keeping an eye on it to be honest. No 'low battery' messages like I used to get on the original radio anyways. Currently on 60% after almost a full day of calls, push email, and general use.
I tried 1.38, 1.40, and 1.41 and had nothing but dropped calls and really bad reception, it was terrible. The only thing I've noticed with 1.43 is that after I make a call in a 3G area and look at my phone, the data connection has been killed and it only shows as G and not 3G. It goes back to normal after that though, so not an issue for me. Not sure if this is radio or ROM related tho.
Don't use any VoIP apps so can't comment on that.
Im using radio 1.43.00.00 (the current one), works fine on 3G and GSM.
The VoIP im using over Wifi (obviously Tmobile dont allow it on 3G/GSM), im using SIPGate as you can register a residential number for it aswell....works great over wifi im uni and at home. Paypal payment for call charges is also a bonus

I know SIPgate, I have a number registered (0207 Central London number in Heathrow area , and I'm using it at home with FritzBox 7050 WLAN device. On my Hermes I use IPFON.pl, which is Polish-based VoIP provider.
Anyway, looks like in your case VoIP application does not interfere with Radio ROM. Maybe I shall upgrade to 1.43 too...

Actually I haven't got any problems with dropped calls and/or bad reception, both with 1.40 and 1.41 Radio ROMs. It's just a matter of freezing Phone module from time to time, which forces me to restart whole device.
Can someone post a link to 1.43 and instructions for upgrading? Thanks in advance.

I'm using Fring which channels through to Skype and MSN, and it works a treat over 3G/HSDPA on T-mobile, and I'm on the standard W&W package... my bad?

Skype works fine on the Vario running under 3G. I've used Skype (on my Vario) to talk to a friend in Valencia and it worked fine.
And it only costs £7.50 per month for an unlimited data plan.
Bobbyelliott, I couldn't get Skype 2.2 to work, chat works fine but voice just crashes out straight away.... the Skype site states it won't work yet with Vario II... hmmm...

I had similar probs on Tmo in the Uk with 1.41 and 1.43, the radio stack would just drop my network connection and I have to turn on flight mode and turn flight mode off....
also I seam to get multiple new text messages at once. Eg two new text messages at the exact same time, almost like the phones got a heartbeat and only checks every X mins.

Back to the radio post...
Using 1.43 here with no problems so far. Noticed 2 changes to date from original T-Mobile radio (1.05.05.00): calls are now louder with very slight hiss at higher volume, and the radio seems to hold 3G for longer when it previously switched to a higher signal 2g connection - obviously better for data and might also save on battery power. I have not seen any higher signal strength at home but 3G is 'perhaps' more often available.
No missed or dropped calls so far and after upgradeding IPL/SPL using HardSPL (as per recs) it took me less that 7 mins total for the radio flash!
I have not tried any other radios so cannot comment on them and whether 1.43 is better; but, compared to the original I'd say 1.43 is an improvement .

Looks like problem does concern some people, and some doesn't - regardless Radio ROM version. Maybe it's dependant on the 3rd party software installed..? Hmm..
said i'd post back with my findings,
48 hours latter im very happy with this 1.43.00.00 i'll stick with it.
(I was in a very poor reception area yesturday and it seems to be on a par with the stock tmobile radio rom that my sister and father still have... i found that 1.40.30.00 was worse than the stock radio rom when i was in a poor reception area in wales.)
(as for battery, i can't say my usage pattern changes daily. so long as i can get through a day with scheduled send and recive then im happy to charge each night when i set my alarm for the morning.)
I had lots of problems with all the radio roms. the only one that seems to work pretty well is 1.38 orange. try this.

I do not have such an issue. Why are you using the HTC version of Jwrightmcps' .08 when a JasJar specific one of Jwrightmcps' .08 exists?
In the Phone Settings, try setting the Band to be one of GSM or UMTS and not Automatic. You can even go a step further by setting your Network Selection to a specific Opertaor instead of allowing the Universal to discover for one. If you still have call dropping issues after this, then I guess there is a pretty serious issue.
I experienced the same problem several months ago, it was wm5, i have changed my sim card and the problem was solved.
This rom with 1.14.10 work good
With my O2 Exec on T-Mob I had probs with 1.13 and 1.14 and have now got 1.09 and ecverything is fine

Experienced the same (sometimes) with same ROM.
Now upgrading to 2.02.00
I have the same issue.. not related to firmware tho.
Every firmware I tried had the same issue(s). Only firmware I ever had that worked 100% on mine was the orginal firmware, although I cannot say that for certain since I had that version for less than one day.
Now my screen is busted on it and I am spending $300+ in repair to fix it. Once it is returned to me from repair its going on Ebay because I am not happy. Might try WM6 before selling on EBay tho...
Thinking of downgradeing to the Wizard(T-mobile MDA).
Try fixing your phone to GSM or 3G (UMTS) not automatic switching. It worked for me!
still no luck
I still have this problem with Jwrightmcps 2.02 rom and both radio 1.13 and 1.14
I also tried to disable voice command and set the band on gsm...
any idea?
thanks
Lulazz
I share you the same problem. I did every possibe trial but the problem is the same...
it is even worst, now call last only a couple of minutes
trying to reflash maybe a different rom

This sounds more like a hardware issue (as lots of people run the ROMs you have tried without this issue). Have you tried using a different SIM to see whether that has the same problem?
try this
go to band & set to gsm only, umts & auto don't work. there is no soft handover from umts to gsm....... only from gsm to umts.
you will see drastic results.
ps, does anyone know how to fix the "no gsm" error?
after an hard reset everything is working fine (I have no other SW installed at the moment) will investigate to see if it was incompatibility with 3rd party software
try 1.15 radio ROM maybe it can solve ur prob.
I had the same problem too. calls would drop after 2 or 3 mins while talking. So i sent for repair last week and collected today. it looks fine now. the strange thing is that if u dont talk u wont have that problem. coz i tried call from landline and leave it like 10mins + , it worked fine.

i still have the problem after upgrading to wm6. Not sure it was the battery problem. I notice i have this problem when my battery getting last shorter.
Hello everybody,
I'm using WM6 for Hermes LVSW Edition (2007-03-26). And suddenly I've got several problem with my phone:
Sometimes it wont start after a soft-reset
Sometimes it freezes after a period of time
Sometimes I cannot end calls. Press red phone button onscreen, or hardwarekey
Sometimes when I open Device Information, Radio version and Protocol version are empty
A lot of sometimes, so I didnt know exactly what to do but I tried a lot of thing to solve it:
Reflash and reinstall all my software (SPB Pocket plus, Tomtom, Resco Explorer)
Reflash ROM and leave it without other software
Hard reset
Finally I tried flashing de Radio-Rom with version 1.38.30.10. And it hassen't crash for 2 hours! Wow!
Does anybody experience the same problems?
I had this issue with previous versions of WM6 but with LVSW 26-03 and WM Black 2.0 don`t have problems at all
Regards,
Primoz
I've had problems with both
It only happen 3 times since it came out. Oh well, beta stage ROM is usually like this. Same as Vista beta test.

I would suggest that you flash first Radio V 1.38.00.10 then do a hardreset then install LVSW again. And then you should test it some days without installing any additional software - especially those three you mentioned. For me and my unbranded HTC Tytn LVSW and Black 2.0 worked great without any bigger issue.
Another issue
Another issue: When I call myself (Something I don't very often ) i got redirected to my voicemail even though my phone says I've got good reception! After that happened, my phone went to no service and up to good reception in 2 seconds.

What is wrong with 1.38.30.10?
According to a lot of posts here and in some other forums its draining the battery very fast.
And referring to your "selfcalling" problem: Every once in a while I notice the same with my SE P910 so I think its a provider problem. Sometimes I got the message "new voicemailmessage" although my phone showed me full reception.
Yes! So i am not going mad.
Well i was running 1.38.30.10 and i was receiving same problems. (My phone has full reception and callers kept getting forwarded to voice mail. Even SMS's wouldnt go through)
I changed over to 1.38.00.11 and its working fine for 2 days now.
I am running XDA .20 if that helps.

I have had this issue with every rom on my device. It happened with the stock Cingular rom and every rom I have flashed since then. It doesn't happen every call but does happen at least once a day for me. Not a big deal but kind of annoying when it happens.

suggest you try the genuine hermes radio instead, 1.38.00.10. It MAY be something to do with being a trin radio, or even try the newer 1.38.30.10?

im going to give this ROM just a few more days of testing before i flash another one on...
i would blame this all on the radio.. i experience the very same issue on wm5 roms and i am using 1.35.00.11 radio, have tried the 2 different 1.38's and still had the problem.. i didnt have this problem on 1.33 but the reception was horrible... so i picked the lesser of the evils and stuck with 1.35.....

Same experience, the radio to take me less problem level was 1.34.
1.38 was very bad, lot of call lossed, sms lossed. 1.35 was not so bad, but lost same calls. 1.34 works fine (or as fine as it can) and better than 1.33.
So far im happy with my RADIO (check my sig). Havent ahd any of those issues, and trust me i had many of them. Business clients would complain to me why my phone was off all day long, when in actual fact i had full signal!!!
Anyway, will let ya know if something goes funny with this RADIO..

I am with Rogers here in Canada.
Upgraded to Radio 1.51 (1.48 and 1.50 seemed to have lags). I have tries several different WM6 bins including Official HTC ROM..
All seemed well until I decided to use constant DATA connection for PUSH email. Email is working great, but now I have noticed if I have BT on (with my headset) plus 3G, I get disconnected calls CONSTANTLY. if I turn of 3G all is well. Havn't tried without the BT headset yet to see if thats a problem.
Basically I have two questions.
1) Has anyone else noticed this
2) I came across a link with many RADIO downloads, and cannot seem to find it again. Can somone point me in the right direction to them? I would like to try 1.43 or 1.5 again.
Anyone have any NEW suggestions for ROGERS?
Thanks..

It's all in the Wiki. Try 1.47.00.10 radio. It's the most stable radio I've come across and I've tried them ALL.
Thanks ericc,
You saved me a lot of looking around. I know I saw them somewhere, just couldn't remember exactly where.
I was using Radio 1.50 with ok results but was getting dropped calls in certain areas of town so I decided to try 1.51. Anyone find simular problem?
What a disaster. I could no longer get data to work at all. I could not get on internet or email. I tried flashing 1.51 a second time from a fresh download with same result. As soon as I flashed the old 1.50 radio I was able to get data to work again. Data is quite fast as I am using a bluetooth connection between my Herm100 and my new Lenovo laptop with excellent speed and reliability. Now if I can get the phone to only stop dropping calls (always happens at same locations).

RADIO -- what's it function?
Hello just a nube questions here.
RADIO, besides call quality, what else does it effect.
I had Radio 1.48 for a while, and it was working great until my recent upgrade ROM, then i realized that it was time to change the radio. I like the ROM very much.
So i did radio change from 1.48 to 1.47
then on another post, i was told to get the RADIO 1.50
I switched from 1.47 because it wasn't any different than 1.48 in terms of quality of call and drop calls.
Let's see if i can keep the 1.50.
I have cingluar,...
There seem to be plenty of Radio threads in the "Hermes upgrading etc." section..
Been using 1.47 now for about a week, and a LOT less dropped calls. and not having much issues with BT ASDPA and 3G...
Give it a shot.. so far I have tried 1.47, 1.48, 1.50, 1.51 and 1.47 does seem to work best on Rogers.

Hi all,
I've got a problem and can't get my head around it!
I upgraded to the offical Tmobile (UK) WM6, and whilst I love it (much more stable) I just can not connect to the Web 'n' Walk service via 3G. I have no problems on GPRS, and I have no problems with texting and making calls on 3G. Can anyone offer any help?
I've tried all the operator settings available from this group, but haven't tried a different radio rom yet - I'm still on 1.50.
Another thing I have noticed is that if someone sends me a MMS, I get a pop up box saying I have to close the current connection and then download it. This didn't happen before on WM5. If I go back on the net after downloading a MMS, then I get the "connecting" pop up showing again.
Any help much appreciated!

Firstly make sure your settings are ok, use the network wizard i have attached.
Secondly the radio you are using SHOULD be fine however running the tests (in my signature) i found that some radios between 1.40 and 1.54 seem to hinder 3G performance (atleast on my network anyway).
Try 1.47.30.10 and see if that helps?
P.S: your radio version isnt a WM5.0 radio as said above....totally incorrect.
Thanks for the suggestions mrvanx, i'll give the cab file a go. I'm working nights this week, so time is scarce, but i'll give the radio rom a go soon. I spent half the night last night reading up on relatively good roms for TMobile UK, but I left the list I compiled in work! (The other half of the shift involved watching a boxing match between Calzaghe and Hopkins... he he!)
Cheers

Had the same issue with several Radio ROMs which I have been toying around with. Sometimes 3G worked intermittently, sometimes not at all.
Now I am back at version 1.47.30.10 and 3G works again and all the time too. And the GSM reception and the battery life with this version is OK too. I suggest you try some Hermes Radio ROMs too to find out which one works for you.
Oh, and don't forget to enable HSDPA and then reboot via HTweakC 2.1b or another tool.

Thanks for the tips there - I'm now running Schap's WM6 4.30 rom and the 1.47.30.10 radio rom, and i'm back to sqare 1 with 3G reception at work! Even the GPRS seems slower. So i'll try a few radio roms. Only showing 2 bars in work - normally 3. Few freezes with Schaps rom, so might have a try at some others. It could even be TMobile issues in my area. I've got the HSDPA enabled too.
Thanks for your input.
Hi Guys,
not sure what do do, ive tried updating Rom (currently running latest Energy Rom) although had this problem before updating to the latest, previous was a few months old.
Also updated/changed the Radio version - still nothing.
basicaly - whenever i enable 3G - my phone drops the network connection, whereas for the last 18months not had a single problem - nothing has changed as far as im aware..
Anyone had this or got any suggestions on what to do ?

my problem happens all the timel; ie i cant get a 3G connection, when i select to enabke 3G it just drops network totaly, cant make calls, text etc etc.
I actually just starting to have the same problem... Are you on Vodafone in the UK? My problems started yesterday evening...
I've been hearing a lot about this lately. I think it has something to do with Vodafone and Orange combining network coverage. Try the following to see if it works. Make sure to back up your stuff first.
task29
Flash Stock ROM/Radio (they should come bundled together)
task29
flash custom ROM
boot and then hard reset.
See if this fixes the problem.

Yeah Vodafone UK! - My problems started Saturday Evening, between Sat Evening and Sunday afternoon (after i'd flashed and changed the 3G setting) - i then got a signal...
Ive tried enabling the 3G Since, and it just drops out!
Might try FLashing the Stock Rom - any idea where i can get a standard rom/radio ?

Did all that, used the _HTC Touch Pro2_RUU_Rhodium_S2_HTC_Europe_2.07.401.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.91" ROM from HTC site, then reflashed with "Energy.RHODIUM.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Nov.19" but I still have the same issue
Vodafone and Orange? I through it was Orange and T-mobile that were merging? Every time I turn my phone back on or come out of flight mode my clock move forward 1 or 2 hours... If I don't change the time, the coverage work but if I set it back to the normal time, the coverage stick only on GMS mode... weird and weirder...

I did, but except from the shock of saying such a poor interface the problem were the same... I got the "HTC Touch Pro2_RUU_Rhodium_S2_HTC_Europe_2.07.401.1_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.91" ROM from http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=250&cat=2&dl_id=913 my own S/N didn't work so I got "ht95tll00196" from the web. Didn't make it any better though...

Stock ROMs come with the stock radios. No need to flash a radio separately.

I haven't heard anything about T-Mobile. Vodafone and Orange aren't merging. They're sharing use of their cell network. Meaning customers of both companies are going to get increased coverage throughout the country. I've been seeing lots of posts about how this is affecting users negatively on the networks, though.

definitely Orange and Tmobile sharing coverage in the UK, I haven't heard about Vodafone:

your link didn't have the Vodafone stock ROM, on the HTC website it would be http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=250&cat=2&dl_id=797 but it's the 1.86.161.1, seriously old...
another day and my data connection doesn't even turn on anymore... No more disconnect from the network tough, just greyed out E connection...

You are correct. I had it backward. It was T-Mobile that teamed up. I didn't check the link I gave as it normally has each ROM for each carrier, so I generally just link it by default. The 1.8.6.161.1 is the latest ROM from Vodafone. You don't need to keep it on the device, you just need to have it return everything to stock conditions and move on from there. It's like working on a fresh, clean slate.
Man, I'm off my game today...
