838Pro Will not "standby" - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Sorry if this has been covered before, I've been searching the threads for quite a while though only came up with those having problems with standby freezing.
So I have a 838pro, running Elf 2.1 - Clean! -- Connected to exchange 2007 (push) 3g/HSDPA. This works great -- except I cannot go far from a charger since my pda will not enter standby mode.....(unless i hit the power button - this works fine, and so does resuming) -- Every thing is great except it drains the battery like no tomorrow.
Not running wifi or bluetooth. 3 Network in Australia.
If I kill the activesync service it will standby as set by my power settings (1min power/30sec screen)
Would my exchange server be playing funny buggers?
I've tried a couple of different roms (black etc) and all seem to have a similar problem.
Running 1.41xxx radio / hard spl v7;
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Since yesterday, I've down graded to my Networks current rom (which is 1.30 vm5) and standby works fine.
Tonight I will re-flash to a wm6 rom and see if it helps (e.g. not changing the radio rom back to 1.41)
The rom I got is specifily for my network so call quality is actually better than 1.41 - with regards to range/data -- too early to tell.
Cheers'

My phone has never gone into standy while using Push from the exchange server. Once I make it sync every 15 minutes it seems to be able to turn the screen off.
Rob

Well about half way thru today it started doing the not sleeping thing. So tonight I re-installed elf and tried using push with an exchange 2003 server (I am not sure of services packs etc, as the exchange 03 server isnt hosted locally).
So now it has been running for about 4 hours without any problems. It must be a exchange 2007 thing.. Maybe the keep alive packet??
Any Ideas?

same issue here
I noticed since I set up DeniaL's Exchange 2007 service, my battery life went into the toilet. My bro in law was comparing phones (he has a Hermes too) and asked why mine never went into standby... Battery problem discovered... Ideas anyone?

Does Denials owa access use http or https?
(e.g. when you setup your exchange server do you leave the ssl option ticked?)

After having a little time to play around.. I think (might) of found the issue.. Syncing over a http connection seems to be the problem for me. Switching to ssl seems to fix the issue... -- Will update in a two or two after more testing

Weird Skype Issue

Hi folks, I have a Qetk 9090, the rom is WWE 1.22 the Ext rom I don't remember but I it is not the latest one. Anyway
Before the 1.22 rom, I tried Skype on Wifi no problems everything went well, not if I receive a call or make one after 30 seconds the call crash, the Wifi seems to crash as well, if I stop it and restart it, the Wifi software won't work but the wifi light will blink... I need a soft reset to make it work, if I do the same test at thome calling my PC with my PPC, no problem... what is going on? Is that a Wifi Issue or Skype ?
Thanks
My XDA IIs has always done this. Skype know about this issue, and there is a thread here about it as well. They (skype) say that its the Blue Angel, not skype. It does not appear to be only the blue angel either.
Interestingly, for me it works if I stand next to my AP while using it. Hardly convienient!
Nigel
i use mine over bluetooth activesync on my xdaII (no wifi) and encounter the same problem.... only happens when i use skype though.
I have had major problems with Skype before version 1.1.0.6. This version doesn't have a problem on my IIs. As a matter of fact, I leave Skype and FWD on for more 48hrs without it crashing. I have had experinces with having Wisbar advance installed and random application would crash. These voip apps would not have the chance of being installed if I didn't have a wifi network.
I also have 1.1.0.6 but experience the same symptoms. I've read some skype-related issues on xda-dev and believe it could very well be the wifi's subpar quality.
Just now I tested a skype call sitting right next to the router - no problems at all. moved into the living room - other party reported distortions in my voice. moved further away, into my room - distortions worsened, until finally the wifi connection dropped to nearly "zero" (no curved lines around the wireless lan manager icon on Today screen). immediately following, connection totally terminated, and the pda's internet will not WORK at all, despite still showing status of "connected". only solution is a soft reset.
nomadman, did you find that the 1.40 ROM upgrade helped at all? as a last ditch effort, I will probably try migrating over to 1.40/1.12radio to see if things improve. ( see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22429&highlight=skype )
kia do not upgrade the rom counting that it will increase the range of wifi or bt. i have not noticed any distance increase upgrading from 1.33 and the last radio version. i upgraded because i wanted to learn how to upgrade the rom. i can get 10 to 12 meters from my AP. thats with a hallow wall and a cement exterior walled home.

Thanks for the warning. I seem to consistently get BAD reception from the router to my room, which is less than 8 meters away
I just confirmed that the Skype that comes with ROM 1.40 is 1.1.0.7... so I may just give THAT a go afterall as I'm all out of options..
Are you getting good distance with a desktop PC? I wasn't aware that Skype is included in any ROM. At least it wasn't included in my 1.40 upgrade.
good news to report: I finally took the plunge and upgraded to 1.40ROM, and my Skype via Wifi issues seemed to have dissappeared!
Very prelim info and will need further testing tonight at home, but just now at the office I was able to talk for over 8 minutes with NO disconnections. veletron and others who have this problem, this may just be the fix!!!
Skype is definitely included in 1.40, at least in the 1.40 I-mate rom that I upgraded to today. The version included is 1.1.0.7.
Great news m8. can you extract the 1.1.0.7 cab and upload it. the skype site only has 1.1.0.6 available for download.
Skype 1.1.0.7
Try here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_ROM_140176_WWE/Default_SkypeForPocketPC.CAB
Please post the version number and I will update the wiki page for that EXT Rom. Thanks
Thanks for pointing the right direction m8. Indeed this is Skype 1.1.0.7.
Anytime dude. Be sure to post your experiences with 1.1.0.7.

Unreliable GPRS/UMTS: AKU3.x or Radio 1.13?

As the title asks really.
Since moving onto AKU3.x ROM images, I have also moved to radio 1.13, and I am forever getting connection problems with push mail, and WL Messenger.
It says it is connected with the little G, but no data seems to go through. If I soft reset, it works again for a while.
I have used in the last few weeks ROMs from everyone that's posted here, and today Indra's 3.3, but I seem to get similar problems on them all.
Any idea what's going on?

Question: do you also lose phone connectivity?
This is a problem in AKU. In AKU 2 MS have changed the RILGSM interfaces, while HTC have not fixed that in their code. So you'll get problems connecting to APNs that require passwords and your device cannot connect to them from the first attempt.
I have the same problem. There are solutions -
1. Flash AKU1 ROM (no push email support, only OUTD)
2. Use APN that does not require login/password
3. Wait when Crossbow ROM would become public. I think that that bug would be fixed there.
4. Just live with that bug.
I think option 4, then 3 will do for me thanks hehe.

I think is the some problem happening with BBconnect, that produce times works the pushmail and times not. I was thinking could be related to the new "Internet Sharing" program.
Strange, my AKU2 works fine with Radio 1.13.00 (Jwritesmcps's version extracted from his AKU3.2).
My AKU2 with Radio 1.11.00 was also ok and least memory leak, except of some missed calls & clarity which prompts me to change to Radio 1.13.00.
Helmi_c AKU3.3 works fine with Radio 1.14.10.
Password or no password, pushmail, pop3, internet, etc.
But in AKU3.3, I do have a problem with additional apps (vcard) that jams up my sms/mms. uninstall it and it is ok.

GPRS/3G Connection troubles

Hi all!
I know this has been discussed before, but it has never really been answered or a *working* solution been found to this problem:
I have the Cingular 8525 and my WAN connection (yes, no matter if it's Edge, 3G or HSDPA and no matter if I use isp.cingular or wap.cingular) just seems to die off after the PDA has been sitting for a while in STANDBY.
After seeing how incredibly stable and reliable all the blackberrys work, I still opted for the PDA because I liked the versatility plus the ADVERTISED push capabilities of it.
Apart from non-working tools like "gprs keepalive" etc, how can anyone REALLY PREVENT programs that are running from being stopped? Is there a Reg-Hack for this?
Here's my setup. Fresh blank WM VI Black 2.0 (great imags jas !!) and ONLY VGSMail (for mailpush) and IM+ for yahoo messenger installed. Rest absolutely untouched. Everything works fine as long as the thing is actually ON (display lit up and everything). Once i either wait for the timeout or manually put it in standby by pressing the power button, the Yahoo IM+ will react for another 5 minutes, but VGSmail almost immediately goes deaf. I have a TCP bridge in front of my IMAP server so I can see all in/out traffic to the IMAP by just accepting connections on port 1430 and routing all traffic to 143 while dumping it into a log. I can see the PDA connect the server and go into IDLE. Every time a new message arrives, the PDA is SUPPOSED to get it, but it just doesn't when it's in standby. Completely defeats the whole purpose of it.
Long story short:
HOW do you prevent the connection/radio/windows/software from "silently falling asleep" when the connection should stay open and new messages (email via VGS or IMs via IM+) should be received?
P.s. I already used the included HTweakC to acticate autoconnect and permanent connect. opens up the connection fine after reboot, but that's it!
THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY IMAGE I HAVE TRIED! Original Cingular, Cingular Hacked AKU3.3, Black 1.2 and Black 2.0 :-((
Thanks
Ive had the same issues, my internet connection will just randomly quit on me. One second it will be working the next it will disconnect. Seems to be when I bring it out of standby or get a call. Definitely not as stable as WM5 was.
Radio Version?
Which radio version are you running? I have two things different with my configuration, but I had similar issues with my service (T-Mo USA).
My GPRS connection would hang, even when on the charger (not sleeping).
Turns out a radio update caused the behavior to quit altogether. I could drive completely across town, and have 10-15 new emails in my box, whereas before, I had to either press/hold the disconnect button, or soft reset.
My current versions are in my signature.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I had radio 1.27.00.00 before, now I have 1.38.30.10
Also I do have newest Hard-SPL 1.40 installed. So I'm pretty much cutting edge here. Howewer, the PROBLEM has been annoying me since WM2003SE.
Is it just the way it is with desktops? Micky Mouse Soft dominates the market, releases one pile of **** after another, never really fixing bugs but introducing new ones by the thousands and we users (who in this case have paid $500 for the device) are left in the dust?
If I just imagine delivering buggy crap like this to MY customers, they would kill me!
Anyone have some good ideas or hacks? I definitely need to get this working at least to a somewhat acceptable level. Since having the Hermes with the first "original" WM5 on it, I got used to rebooting that unreliable Micro$hit every morning when I get up, to make it usually just about last for the day. I'm definitely not willing to reboot every hour !!!
I have this problem
I have this problem however I still receive push email. the most annoying thing is that I cannot keep a data session active with a voice call.
I am on Orange UK network. I use 4smartphone's hosted exchange service. I get directpush working 24/7 with Black 2.0 OS. I also receive my pop email whilst on voicecalls.
So its not a WM6 issue. Its either your network or your connection settings.
I must say that it actually improved a lot since installing Black 2.0. However, the connection still silently dies off eventually. I now have a makeshift solution using FlexMail, set to poll emails every 15 min. So what happens is as long as the PDA is ON, I get immediate PUSH mail. Once I put it in standby, it continues to work for a minute or two, then the connection ****s up. Every 15 min Flexmail wakes up and polls for emails, which most of the times seems to work as I can see in my logfile that every 15 min the tcp connection opens up and the server dumps all new mails over to the phone. It then enters IDLE and at some point dies away with "recv(): connection timed out".
So it's all pretty messy still and I'm wondering what you can do to PREVENT the line from silently dying in the first place. Tried tools like GPRS Keepalive with no luck, since the whole program stops being executed in standby and hence it can not keep the connection up = useless. I need some hack/tool/program that stays active during standby! Then I could just have it ping my mailserver once per minute to keep the connection open.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Could my problem be related? - see my post under Treo 750:

I am testing to see if I get the same behaviour with 3G/UMTS as I do with GPRS....

Ive been SRing all day! Mines been freezing on my telenav and sirius. Just started to do this today. Has been fine since Friday as well.
Yeah, same here. I have to do a SR every time I get in my car
Looks like I'll be installing something else on it...
I have been having IE problems connecting, Bluetooth not connecting, 3G freezing. Must be a bad day for Majik.
Well well I`m not alone on this, well vp3G here I come.
I am having this problem as well, what worse is that I am away from my PC for 32 days! on business in boston and all I have is a mac, even worse is that Igo keeps losing GPS whenever it shuts off Bluetooth, isn't there a registry hack that enables power-save on BT, I think I enabled that before and had a similar problem in WM5

Oh man I feel for you. I`m not sure about pwersetting for b, but it would make sense to me.
Had many problems with Majik yesterday so I tried 3 other roms. Not one would give me 3G sitting here in my office as majik had done. Flashed back to Majik and is working very well. I guess vevery week reflash
People, the root of nearly 70% of problems stems from 3rd party apps and NOT the ROM......
suggest you guys test it out with no apps installed and you will see the ROM is solid.
anything with 'spb' in the title should be left at arms length.
Anything like phonealarm etc... that claim to support WM6 really are only going on beta testers...remember the releases we are using are VERY new
Had nothing spb installed. The biggest issue is the BT disconnecting all the time. And the phone frezing.

Like i said, Hard Reset....then dry run it and youl probably see the difference.....3rd party software which is acting up can cause allsorts of weird problems.

I've got 5 8525's running this Majik and only one has "freezing" issues... and he had these same issues with his Wizard. 2 POP3 email accounts being polled every 30 minutes, Exchange 2003 push and 140 plus reminders MIGHT have something to do with it <sigh>
Battery life is incredible, speed is great when one adjusts the glyphcache.
As with you, my biggest complaint is with the BT dropping the call to the device but then I can bring it back up… seems to happen mostly on my initial outgoing call….
Again, respect to the chefs, this is a bad ass ROM.
Peace, out.
Hi Guys
I have been running LVSW 20070423 since it was released. Yesterday i decided to give Majik a go. All i can say it is terribly slow. Even clean ROM without applicvations. Could only stand it for 30min and then i reflashed LVSW back. The other thing is default coulors, i could hardly see my screen when outside. Dialer is crap, i like native WM6 dialer when you can type a few letters and then hide the dialpad. In Majik there are 4 lines only and if you have a lot of contacts it is a real pain to scroll through.
No good for me at all.
Will stick with LVSW ROM until the official release.
I have installed, Sirius, Voice Commander, Adobe, Live Search, WLM 1400, and esmertec. I tweaked the performance myself and set up mms and MEdia net and ISP/WAP settings myself. After I reinstalled Majik I have had no problems. I think that those problems came from WLM and IE because of the IPhone owners taking up my bandwidth
Note....Everybody that had problems was the same day they released the IPhone and we are all on AT&T
Check it out
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/07/03/stingy_att_iphone_network_snafu/
Second Flash
I think I had a bad flash the first time around.
I reflashed yesterday and the speed problems have dissapeared.
I was waiting +/- 20 seconds for /windows to open using file explorer.
That's all gone now and the ROM is pretty nippy and stable so far for my application.
But I do feel that all the extras trying to mimic the "Touch" ROM will have an effect on the speed and maybe stability.
That's why is still flash a different ROM every week or so.
To date Sleuth seems to have the combo nearly right.
LVSW cooked up fantastic ROM's, but he seems to be playing with his ELF now. - a bummer for us Hermes users.
Majick slowishness
I've found that installing the video dialler (3 cab files) dramatically slows down the Majick rom. I thought I was imagining things so I hard reset and repeated the excersise a couple of times with the same effect.
I leave the video dialler off now. I can't think of a time that I've ever used it although I do obsess about having a feature on my phone that I can't use even though I never use it.
Although Majick is an excellent ROM I did find the current LSVW was a bit quicker. The HSDPA problem in this ROM meant that it was a no-goer for me though.
I'm not complaining you understand, I'm very grateful for all the work people have done to get me WM6 on my phone!
only problem i have with majic so far is that when I add the new internet 3G connection, my username and password never seems to get saved no matter after how long. i have tried to both soft reset and power off, but still the 3G username/password never gets saved. anyone have any ideas on this?

Sleep of death with the new official ROM (Sense 2.5)

Hi,
I am experiencing sleep of death with the new HTC official ROM (3 in maybe 4 days of use....).
Here is what I have installed:
-Hard SPL
-Resco Explorer
-Resco Registry addin
-Efficasoft GPRS Traffic monitor
-LockDevice 1.6
I installed very few apps on purpose as stability is very important for me.
The top suspect so far is LockDevice 1.6, as it is the only application run in the background; I removed it yesterday and will see if it works better that way.
Am I the only one having this issue? Any other sweet way to have the phone automaticely locked?
Thank you,
uninstall lockdevice it should fix your issues. I suggest s2u2 for a locker.
Hi,
I had the same problem, seems to be a bug in the ROM. I didn't installed other apps or anything. I reverted back to the stock 6.1 rom :S
Grtz,
FeareX
I have the same issue. Thought it was just me.
How the hell can HTC release a rom with such an obvious bug. I'll try a few more days and if it keeps crashing I'll also rollback to a previous version.
Thanks for your infos

Have you thought that HTC has NOT released this rom yet?
I don't know what's the connection between htcpedia and htc, but this rom is not downloadable from HTC's site yet, only the SEA version. So maybe these roms on htcpedia are just some kind of "beta" versions, and they're still testing/fixing them.
(Though my experiences from the past make this whole reasoning meaningless )
same here, i just flashed it 2 days ago and then restore my data with SPB Backup, now when it's sleep it never awake... i have to soft reset it. im going to perform a hard reset now.
Mine was fine before i put this rom on and now even with a different rom, it still does it. I'm going to flash a different radio and see if that helps.
I wonder if hardspl could be the problem, as far as I remember I've allready seen similar issue with a kaiser (or a touch pro) rom update and it was related to hardspl.
What version should the new SPL be?
it happened to me a couple of times, I think in my case it was the twitter auto update from sense 2.5, it hasn't happened since I disabled it
Bluetooth w/ Sleep of Death?
I am troubleshooting the SOD issue, and was wondering if anyone is / has been experiencing this problem when NOT using bluetooth (you get SOD when your bluetooth is turned off)?
In the meantime I am checking to see if auto updates set to "on" in Facebook / Twitter / or Weather could be the culprits.
I don't use bluetooth and it still happens. I do have twitter updates enabled though. I may have to disable them to see if it fixes it.
I do not use BT nor twitter, but I do have a constant sync with my exchange server
I once had the SOD with using bluetooth a while back (when paired with a rental car's BT stereo), but yesterday started getting it every time phone goes to standby (without using BT) - only soft reset/removing battery helps. I have made no changes to registry or even installed apps in the last couple of weeks so have no idea why it is happening. Continuing to search forums at the mo...
BTW: Stock 6.5 WWE ROM

No, I don't and I believe my stock 6.5 WWE ROM (from HTC official site a couple of months ago) has Sense 2.1, not 2.5. Like I said, I had no problems until yesterday and most of that day, it was cradled to my work PC (like it is every couple of days).
so, today I can confirm that twitter and facebook update (from contacts tab) produces the sleep of death on my rhodium (rhod100 with official sea firmware)
I had no problems for several days with auto facebook updates and twitter tab disabled. today I manually updated facebook (contacts tabs-->all contacts-->updates & events) and let the phone do it's thing. after a couple of seconds the cpu usage went up to 100% (according to battclock) and stayed there until the screen turned off (I let the phone idle on purpose) then it SOD on me, had to soft reset. I had facebook updates off for more than a week, so maybe it hangs when there are over a certain number of updates and the refresh takes longer than X amount of seconds
after that soft reset I checked the updates & events in contacts, and the update seems to be succesful, apart from the sleep-of-death
then I enabled the twitter tab, again, after several days of having it disabled, hit refresh and watched the cpu usage go to 100%, after the screen went off it was SOD again, just like with facebook.
these tests were done over my data plan, wifi and bluetooth disabled and direct push enabled (gmail)
for now I check twitter via web with opera mini and post to twitter with pocketwit-quickpost, I don't use facebook on my phone and just have it enabled to sync my contact pictures when I do a hard reset. hopefully there will be a hot fix or a rom update that fixes this.
Just a heads up: The new official Sense 2.5 ROM is NOT official at all. Just got that confirmed from HTC themselves after sending them a bug report. They are still working on it.
So yeah, expect a few bugs.
That being said, I also use LockDevice 1.6 and I don't have any sleeps of death. Other than that I am using what you are using except for Hard SPL - no idea what that is even :>
EDIT: I have no problems with Facebook updating either. If you have, I recommend you use RAMclean every now and then to keep it below 75% or so. Mine is around there and working ok.

EDIT: I have no problems with Facebook updating either. If you have, I recommend you use RAMclean every now and then to keep it below 75% or so. Mine is around there and working ok.

so the rom in the official website for my phone, that downloads correctly after I put the serial number in the box is not official?
http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=877&news_id=533
P.S: my device is the SEA version, so my serial number works fine on that page
I would write customer support, but since my device works fine without twitter and facebook updates I can live with it.

Might it be that it is still Sense 2.1, as mine is with the official WWE 6.5 ROM?
BTW my SOD solved - narrowed it down to SRS WOW HD: uninstalled and viola!
