Dear all,
I need to use my PDA to sync with the exchange server of my company. After I upgrade to Pro Black 3.0.1, the synchronization is fine. But after I install the CS-Star, the synchronization encounter a problem. It said "The security certificate on the server is not valid. Contact your exchange server admin or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server. Support Code: 0x80072F06". Then I hard reset my PDA and reconfig the PDA to sync with exchange server without install the CE Star. I can't see any chinese right now. Anyone have suggestion on this issue? Thanks a lot.
Have you synced with your PC? Sometimes after a hard reset, when I plug into my PC with Exchange Server configured, that message goes away.
Sometimes I never have an issue and do it all over the air. This has happened with many versions of Crossbow, even the M$ ROMs and I've always been able to get past it by connecting via USB and performing that first PC sync.
Search the board for your language change. It's a registry setting, but I've seen many posts on this subject and you should get used to searching the boards.

I have a Siemens SX66 from Cingular running Mobile 2003 and a laptop running XP SP2, Outlook 2003, and ActiveSync 3.8 and I can't get them to sync. The PC's ActiveSync shows the "Looking for Changes" message and then it shows a quick "Syncronization Error" message and then it goes to "Not Connected". I have been diagnosing this for several weeks with no solution in sight. I have an old IPAQ that syncs just fine with this PC. I have taken the SX66 to two other PC's, both with fresh images and new installs of ActiveSync and get the same thing. I have hard reset the handheld and soft reset it several times. I have switched from the cradle to a direct cable so I could try the serial port. I have checked all of my pst files with scanpst to resolve any errors that existed. It seems a few other people have had an issue that was similar and it seems to have magically resolved itself but mine just keeps hanging around.
I'm just wondering, does it sync okay via wifi? Have you installed any applications that adds to the sync process? Have you tried USB sync from a fresh Hard reset? And last, have you tries older/newer ROM or radio ROM (read wiki for how-to)?
My unit was an SOB when I first got it. Trial and error fixed it and it didn't happen in less than a week.
Have you tried deleting the partnership & then creating a new one?
I have tried to hard reset it several times. I've tried to start the whole process before and after I reloaded saved data to see if my local data was corrupt. I've deleted the partnership. I've uninstalled ActiveSync and reinstalled. I've tried to sync via USB, serial, bluetooth, and infrared. I've also tried the outlook repair tools (inside outlook and the pst report tool outside of it) on the PC. I've even taken it to a totally different PC with a fresh local version of Outlook. Siemens tried to tell me that its because I'm using Outlook 2003 and ActiveSync 3.8 doesn't work with that but that isn't true according to Microsoft's web site. I can't get ActiveSync to work so I can't install any software on it or upgrade/downgrade the ROM. I am running the latest and greatest ROM on the device.
Interestingly, if I set up the partnership as a guest partnership, I can explore the device just fine from my PC so I know that ActiveSync has a good link established.
To me, it looks like the whole ActiveSync chain gets connected and then it tries to read from Outlook on the PC and on the handheld. One or the other of those two things or the exchange of change information down the ActiveSync pipe is what breaks things but there are no diagnostics anywhere to tell me why or what to do about it.
Try to go into AS --> Options and untick all the option in the main box. That will will cause it not to sync with oulook. Maybe there is something in oulook that is keeping it from syncing.
Good suggestion but I've tried that (I just tried it again with a new partnership on a new PC to be sure). It doesn't give me the "Looking for Changes" message but it gives me the "Synchronization Error" message and then goes to "Not Connected". Keep the suggestions coming as something has to make this work.
You have just about tried to sync at the lowest basic level. It the above doesn't work, barrow another sync cable or take the unit to a shop and have them try to sync it with there cable and pc. You have figure out the problem
1. The USB cable/pins
2. The unit itself
3. Your PC or lappy (i doubt it though)
4. while you are there, ask them to test out activesync via wifi if they can
Delete AC from your PC- Reboot - Install AC on your PC, sync will most likely work again.
Had the same problem my self.
Thanks for the suggestion but I've tried that several times already. In fact, I have started from a fresh image on a different PC and get the same issue. Is there a way to do the same thing on the handheld without ActiveSync working? I'd like to remove its ActiveSync and freshen it but I don't know how I'd get a new copy installed since it won't sync.
Don't know how to just Install AC on your BA.
I Would try to Reflash the device with
1) The same Rom -> If it diddn't help
2) A Different Rom
I finally got it to work although I can't believe the solution. If you've gotten this far in the thread I hope that you have an SD card in the phone because that was the whole problem for me. I don't know how it works but if I have my SD card inserted when I connect the phone to the PC, it will error out every time. If I don't have the card in when I connect, it works just fine. Obviously, this appears to be a problem for Siemens to resolve but simply removing the card (as foolish as that sounds) may get you through this issue. Thanks for the assists and I hope that this solution helps someone.
Since I updated my Device to Crossbow I am no longer abel to sync with my Exchange-Server directly over the Internet neither does server syncronization work when connected to ActiveSync 4.5 or WMDC (I do not want to use push service). First I tried PDAViet 2.00.07 pro. Installed a Certificate and tried to use SSL, as I did with the old Aku 2.0 rom. The devices seems to connect and I can read "syncronizing folders" for half a second, then it stops. "View status" gives me the error-code 0x85010014. So I disabled SSL, which makes no difference. This morning I tought, there may be issues with that rom and installed Helmi WM6 c1.1 instead, but again no difference. Syncronization with the desktop works with no issues, but I have to sync. over the net troughout the day, when I am not at home. I've been reading a lot of articels about that error-code, but they are all mentioning activesync desktop problems, such as firewalls etc.
Can anybody help???
Hi xxl
I updated to Crossbow too, and i can syncronize without any problems with a 2003 exchange server.
The only problem i had is that i have to skip the check in activesync when i set up the connection with the exchange server.
If i don't skip that connection test i get an error and i can't connect to the server, but skipping that , allows me to set up the server and sync.
I tried Helmi, and Jwright, and both sync ok for me.
Good luck
This may be the issue of helmi's ROM
I use original WM6 ROM, sync with exchange 2003 sp2 and push email works fine.
As I use SSL, the only thing needed is to add ours CA certificate to trusted roots (created a CAB file that installs a certificate).
I use Helmi's rom v1.1 and it works fine.

Now I've tried the third rom (i-mate JASJAR Crossbow Rom 2.01.06 WWE), still the same issue. Of course I've also installed the nessesary certificate. In WM 5 AKU 2.0 SSL worked fine that way.
I dont know how to set up push mail, just tried to sync manually using Outlook Moblile or ActiveSync on the HTC.
antguada,
I dont know what you mean, I didnt recognize any connection test...???
tnx, for the replies, any other ideas?
Strange thing. I solved it and it was no issue of WM6. The public nic's IP was not on the list of permitted IP's of the OMA virtual directory. But I didnt change anything there and a few days ago I synced successfully with the old Rom...
Confused, but happy
Thanks for your advices!
Hi All.
I have a problem with MS ActiveSync that's driving me mad.
I have Windows 2000 loaded on my work laptop (not my choice but my IT departments) and I'm currently using ActiveSync 4.2 - A couple of weeks ago I loaded one of the latest WM6 roms onto my HTC TYTN with no problems at all - I was very impressed with the basic enhancements and especially the fact that I could at long last recieve a text message notification for voicemail (I'kme easily pleased I know) - So now to my problem.
I tried to connect my TYTN to my laptop to load my BB Connect profile when I got a message that I need to upgrade ActiveSync to 4.5 ???? So, not concerned at this point I download the latest MSI package and started to install ActiveSync 4.5 on my Windows 2000 system... but.... towards the end of the install I got an error message telling me that I cant install ActiveSync because I am missing some DLL files (it doesnt specify which .dll files???)
I've searched everywhere for help resolving this problem but to know avail? So I have 3 questions?
1. Is there a known issue with ActiveSync 4.5 and Windows 2000? If so is there a fix for this?
2. Is there a viable alternative to MS ActiveSync that will work with WM6?
3. Is there a way of Syncing my BB Connect settings with my TYTN without using AciveSync.
Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere on the forum - any help at all would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks.
One quick google search has given me this post. Give that a go and see what happens?
MAPI32.dll issue...
My wife had a similar issue which was either the mapi32.dll problem or just a fubar ActiveSync. I ran the fixmapi as well as removed most if not all traces of the old ActiveSync (Program Files and registry)
Hope this helps...
FixMapi
Thanks DBaser and MrVanx - I've already tried the FixMapi option but with no success - will try again followed by a sweep to remove any traces of a previous ActiveSync install before re-installing - I'll let you know how I get on.
Sigh....
OK - Tried running FixMapi.exe once again having completely uninstalled ActiveSync 4.2 and deleted the directories from the programmes directory and still I get the same error message? HHEEEeeeeelllppppp.....!!!!! This is driving me mad.... How about just getting the BB Connect settings accross to my TYTN without having ActiveSync installed???? Any Idea's?
Have you tried reinstalling the ActiveSync that came with your PDa and then run the 4.5 installer?
Give that a go...
VM6 requires Active Sync 4.5
Tried all of the above - still no joy!
Can you post a screenshot of the error message and also maybe check the Event Viewer (Start>Run>eventvwr) for Application or System errors that could help me diagnose further?

I am aware of this. I was asking the OP to install earlier ActiveSync and then run the 4.5 installer.
try hard resetting....then before doing ANYTHING, sync...follow the sync directions....make sure a new device name is synced with pc and device.......many go-arounds were finally solved by this.

rockky, go back and reread the thread. THis has nothing do do with the PPC. he is trying to install software on the PC.
Still Trying....
All. Thanks for the input so far - if anyone comes up with any more suggestions then please let me know!
I'll keep at it and if I find a solution will add the details to the post.
My IT dept are pretty snowed under as with those in many companies and so my little problem with a missing dll when trying to install a peice of software that has little or no benefit to the company is way way down the priority list.
Thanks again.
More Pain....
So... a short update.. I managed to convince my IT department to upgrade my system to windows XP (SP1 though as SP2 isnt yet supported by them) and guess what happens????
I eagerly await the arival of my new laptop - I get it today - boot it up - go straight to the microsoft website - download the activesync msi file..... hit the install button - and then..... and then I get the missing dll file error...
This is driving me mad? I'm presuming its a 'corporate' image problem or a specific peice of software installed on our laptops thats the issue? Are others having the same problem? and is there anyone out there who has found a working solution? or am I going to have to wait for another release from microsoft and hope that installs?
Alternatively - is there a way of setting up my blackberry connect settings without using active sync??? Can they be exported some other way? from tytn to tytn for example (Yes - I'm lucky enough to have two!)
As ever - any help is appreciated.....
I flashed LVSW WM6.0 ROM ( 3.30.0.9 version ) last night on my Hermes. After the flashing was done, the device was able to synchronize with the exchange server through my PC at the first, but it wasn't later. And the synchronizing is always failed with the exchange server through the GPRS later on. I checked the report and it reads
" Result: The server certificate on the server is not valid. Contact your Exchange Server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server."
and provides a " Support code : 0x80072F06".
This never happened on the platform of WM5.
Can anybody help on this issue?
Thanks a lot!
I had a same issue at past week.
Please change the WINCE.NLS at the \winodws by Good WINCE.NLS.
Good mean is right wince.nls same as your localized version.
Have you been installed any programs with the WINCE.NLS?
If so, I hope above information is usefull.

Taking it back to first principals (assuming you have access to the server):
- what certificate is the server using? (one from your own CA or a third party one like verisign)
- has that certificate expired?
- if using a certificate from your own CA have you installed the root certificate on your phone?
- do the address on the certificate and the one you have entered on the phone match exactly?
- what happens if you turn off the SSL requirement on the server - do you get a different error or does it work ok?
- Do you have another phone you can test with? Failing that what about using Outlook Web Access on a PC over SSL, does that work okay without certificate errors?

Hi randomelements,
1. There is not a certificate the server is using. And there is never a certificate required when I used the WM5 on my Hermes. Also my colleagues in US is using the WM6 and there is not any certificate required.
2. Turned off the SSL requirement, there is another error report reading " Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Sever administrator." and a new support code " 0x85010004" was given.
3.a couple of days ago I used WM5 on my Hermes and there was not any problem. Before using the Hermes, I used the Magician and there was not any problem either.
It works well that using Outlook Web Access on a PC over SSL.
Well...it looks to be a big problem^_^ thank you all the same randomelements!
What version of exchange?
If 2007, the integration with WM6 is tighter than 2003 with WM5 or 6. When I set mine up I had to alter permissions on the Exch 2007 web site. There are pointers on the MS website of you search on that error code and exchange 2007. I dont have the info to hand, but can look on my system tonight.

My situation is NEVER completed any ActiveSync via USB+PC and X01HT's Wireless connection. I think thats problem does not same.
And I am currently using japanese version crossbow. if you have another language with wince.nls, does not solved your issue with my attached a file.
Check the clock on your phone. A couple of times when I flashed I forgot to change the year and had my date set in 2006, which gave me invalid or expired certificate error.
I think I've got what the problem is. I flashed the black 3.01 ROM tonight. After the flash was done, I tried the syn immediately and it succeeded via the wireless connection. But when I replaced the original wincel.nls file with the one with Chinese supported, the syn was failed and I got the same error report.
The problem is I can't use the wincel.nls file without Chiese supported. What should I do?
I just updated my TP2 with the rom from the official htc website: ROM-versie:2.07.404.1 and now i'm getting the 0x80072F17 error when trying to sync with my companies exchange server.
Before it did work on rom version 1.88.404.3, which came with the TP2.
I know the problem is the certificate, but I do not care about the certificate, i just want to sync my calendar, contacts, and outlook email.
I cannot contact my system administrator (because I am one of them), and my company is not buying in the near future a valid certificate.
Can someone please help me making my HTC understand that I want to sync with outlook, but do not care about a valid certificat!!!
Most likely you are using a certificate from your own certificate server.
That's not a validated source.
Normally in a website you'll get a pop up on which you can choose to go on.
Your TP2 can't ask that question.
You'll have to export the root certificate from your internal certificate server to a .cer file.
Copy it to your device, and double click it in explorer. It will install automatically.
To be sure, reset your device, and you shouldn't get the error anymore.
Same Problem
I recently upgraded to latest ROM and the problem you describe emerged.
Please excuse my ignorance but the latest reply does not help me very much as I do not know how to do what you suggest. I seem to remember that for the last ROM version I was asked if I wanted to permanently trust the non valid certificate.
If anyone has a solution please inform us???
because of this problem i got back to an older rom (downloaded from htc site), and yes you are right, this older version just asks one time if you want to continue with an invalid certificate. choose yes, and i can connect with exchange with no problem.
why is the new version not asking this question?
i exported the certificate, uploaded the .cer to my phone, opened it, but nothing happened. now i only do not know if i tried to open the file with explorer or with resco explorer. can anyone confirm if this option will work?
You need to add it as a root certificate.
Follow these instructions:
blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/01/28/making-a-root-cert-cab-file.aspx
Worked for me.
