Hi All,
Has there been anyone that's successfully got WM6 working with DirectPush email using certificates to log-on to their Exchange 2003 mailboxes? And if so, I'd be really grateful for the steps to take in making this work.
Thanks a lot guys!
Cheers,
DAN
Me
Open Activesync.
Enter server, check use ssl.
Add user/pass/domain/
Get yur mail.
Otherwise, if your cert is not valid or shows expired, you will need to connect one time with Outlook on your PC (I use RPC/HTTPS, I'm fairly confident that this is why the cert was loaded into my PPC local store) and you'll sync.
Then, go into comm manager and enable direct push. It's the icon with the "envelope".

I had to install the certs before entering any information in AS. After I did that, it's worked flawlessly...
Didn't have to do anything but enter my exchange info
Yeah, this feature is no different than WM5.
Most times, its true
That you don't have to do anything but make the connection as I described above.
However, I've had occasions where it didn't "just work" and syncing with the PC corrected the issue.
You should not have to manually install a cert for ActiveSync to work.
Glad it worked the first time for you guys, though.

Hmmm.. I don't believe that's true if the server utilizes a self-signed certificate.

Are you saying A/S will push the appropriate certificate to the device? If so, this is news to me, but maybe they changed A/S to do this. It'd be cool if they did, but probably a bit "unorthodox" security-wise.

This was the case with my employer. Also, the certs would not work if I had a server configured in AS, I had to first delete the server, install certs and then re-enter my Exchange info.

Yeah, and furthermore some carriers lock their ROM's down quite tightly, thereby making it a royal PITA to install a self-signed cert.
Agreed... but
Like the VZ Q? One guy had a helluva time.
I'm referring to a Verisign cert from my company and with one of my customers. Self signed certs would indeed need to be installed. However, why don't some of the carriers have Verisign as trusted root authorities in their ROMS?
I'm still baffled why some companies would use self signed certs when they are a drop in the bucket. I can see doing it in your own "lab". When I had WM 5 on a K-Jam, I did have my own CA's issued cert for PEAP on WiFi. It was an unlocked device, I'll admit.
Since this forum is under Hermes Mobile 6, I also assume that the experience I had may not apply to everyone, but it worked for me. Sounded like the first post was having the issue I had. And they were signed by a MAJOR trusted root authority.

I use them for my own company's servers because a) I'm a cheap bastard, b) I understand them, and c) I can deal with them easy enough. Granted, it was one of the stupider things M$ came up with and public certs are much easier to deal with. But still not foolproof, as you noted.
Cert Autoenrolment?
All, thank you very very much for your input and suggestion.
That's really weird. For some reason, I tried exactly what you all suggested and it just plain didn't work. Very frustrating. I am told that Cert AutoEnrol only works on WM5 and not in WM6.0? Is that true at all?
Bro,
Got it working,..... show you later .
You need to manually locate the cert using ActiveSync 4.5.

By "certificate to log-on" you mean Client certificate on WM6 to log on exchange to avoid maintaining local user pwd in the device ?
If yes export your personal certificate with the private key, copy it to your device double click on it (Yes thanks WM6 this is a new feature). Configure your active-sync IIS virtual directory to require client authentification and it's done.
don't forget you need Root public key of your CA in your device and on your Exchange server.
ps : you will found informations about Direct Push here : www.httpsync.net
My procedure for configuring AS with my Exchange servers
I'm assuming that your Exchange Server's admin has already generated a self-signed certificate. On my PC I install the certificate by going to the server OWA (Outlook Web Access) site, for instance http://mail.myexchangerserver.com/exchange. You should get the certificate notification. View and install the certificate. Exit Internet Explorer and go back to the OWA site and it should go straight to the sign on screen which means you're golden. Exit Internet Explorer.
On XP click on Start, then Run and type mmc <enter> (Vista click on start and type mmc <enter>)
Now click on File / Add/Remove Snap-in. Double click Certificates and accept the default "My User Account" to add the snap-in.
Open the Certificates snap-in, go to Trusted Root Certification Authorities\Certificates and find the certificate that you installed earlier.
Right click, All Tasks and Export to a DER encoded binary X.509 (CER) and save.
Copy the certificate to your device (I put mine on the SC as I flash quite often) and install.
I know there are perhaps easier ways but this is pretty painless and is how I set up the 60 or so WM6 devices that I support.
@ Dr Puttingham: Thanks for posting that procedure. No, I don't believe there's any easier way to deal with a self-signed certificate, at present. Things get particularly interesting when you run into devices whose security is locked down tight (e.g., Verizon Q).

That is not as easy as it sounds is it.?
Say for instance that his company have a policy that does not permit activesync over-the-air. OR they run Exchange 2000 and doesn't benefit from an EXPENSIVE upgrade just to get him to use his mobile!
And before you say that he could get one of those "free exchange services server" , one could use those I know that, but what if you are dealing with company-secrets which can't be routed through other servers than internal company..
many aspects to this little question (and answers)
just my 2-cents
Unfortunately I narrowed this down to the WM 6.1 upgrade. I can no longer send emails.
+ T-Mobile Dash (aka Excalibur aka HTC s620)
+ RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_080408_WWE installed
(generally working wonderfully!)
+ 2 different Pop3/SMTP email accounts (my own domains, hosted by godaddy)
+ EMail settings set-up on the dash (not using My Tmobile as a gateway)
(SMTP uses authentication, no ssl and port-80)
Emails were working just fine for 2 years under WM5, 6. After I installed 6.1 ... receiving worked fine, and still does.
Sending emails would work for a few hours, then I would get a vague error message (error - something is wrong - check the settings or that the network is working)
For a few days I was able to sometimes get it to work if I toggled SSL for outgoing. But no more.
The only way I can get emails to send is to delete the email settings, and re-set it up again as new. Then after a few hours it fails again.
After hours and hours of playing and on the phone with tech support - we've determines that the settings are (and always have been) correct and that there are no network or hosting problems. And the phone is brand new.
The email sending worked fine until the 6.1 upgrade.
Any suggestions, insights, help, therapy, anything???
Thanks!
Please someone help out - I'm going nuts.
You should change your password because if you have been using unsecured smtp for 2 years it's likely someone has already stolen it. Turn on SSL and keep it on ;-)
Not sure why it would fail after a few hours though.

Not to sound too sarcastic - but can you be a little more vague? ; ) "tweak the settings" ... hmm. OK.
After hours and hours of troubleshooting (and I'm no newbie) with the mobile provider, hosting company etc ... I think we've reset, reconfigured just about everything.
The only thing that works - temporarily - is if I delete the entire email account from the phone, and the create a new (identical) one. It will work for a few send/receive sessions, then the same sending problem will occur ... never to recover until I repeat that process.
If anyone has any specific experience with this problem (or specific suggestions) - I'd really be grateful !
lemme get everything straight first, your saying you upgraded to 6.1 correct? and now your email account wont let u send emails correct? well is your EDGE working? can u still get on the internet with no problem?

yes yes yes yes yes
After 11 hours of testing and troubleshooting over the past 2 weeks - we've definitely covered the basics.
In case you were wondering
+ the phone is turned on
+ I am pressing the buttons on the device as opposed to trying to use tele-kinetic ability (which can be inconsistent)
+ My eyes are opened and are in working order
+ I made sure I was in no tunnels, caves, canyons or steel-concrete enclosed bomb shelters
+ I verified that my network provider (T-Mobile) did not go out of business, or suddenly remove all their cell towers
+ I verified that most my 2,000 email contacts (potential recipients) have not been abducted by aliens who also deleted their email accounts.
Also
+ This is happening with 2 different email accounts.
+ The Pop3 and smtp servers are indeed working - since
a. I am able to put the settings in my PC, and another phone device (a older sprint phone that allows me to setup pop/smtp) - send/recieve emails work fine
+ Emails were working fine before I upgraded to WM 6.1
**
+ EMails worked ok for the first 2-3 days then the trouble started.
+ I can only get emails to send now when I delete the account, and create a new one (with identical settings). This lasts for a few hours before it fails to send.
+ I've been on the phone troubleshooting with tmobile and my hosting company for hours on end - trying all sorts of funky settings and tests ...
They hosting company seems to have determined that the smtp request is never getting to them; tmobile verified in great detail that the network is working.
Their idea was something along the lines of "the email client part of upgrade of WM 6.1 seems to be deleting a security certificate" or something .
I dunno about that - but it is clear that something is going on with the email client. The network, and email hosting is just fine, as are the settings.
Hope some of this helps - and that someone has some ideas I can try.
Oh - and just to pre-empt some suggestions:
1. No I won't change to linux, a mac or an iphone - but thanks for the suggestion.
2. I have checked out that I have not transported into an alternate reality, where everything is pretty much the same as in this reality - except my emails don't work.
3. Yes, I am using a Dash/HTC s670 - the battery is charged, and I have powered down, taken the battery and sim card out, hopped on one foot and made sure I have no other software running (even on all my pc's) before I powered it back on.
4. Yes, I can make phone calls and do everything else
5. yes, I have an internet connection - and the proper one (GPRS - but have also tried this via the wifi connection.
6. No I am not talking on the phone or browsing the internet during the ill-fated email sending.
7. I am pretty sure there is no conspiracy between t-mobile and my hosting company to block me from sending emails - only from this phone.
8. There are no unusual limitations or special issues with my hosting company about sending these emails.
9. I've tried sending to myself, others, multiples etc ... no difference.
10. It happens with more than one email address/domain.
Thanks for all the help! Sincerely. Thanks. I really need to solve this.
not sure if this helps, but i too cannot send via smtp, but one thing i found out is the email account ( as i found out) i setup (which was my ISP's ..Cox Communications) blocks smtp transmissions sent via proxy (which is what you go through via edge or gprs,...not sure about wi-fi though).

I had tmobile level-3 tech support (aka as their obi-wans) conferenced in with my hosting company (godaddy) - and tmobile specifically asked about the proxy issues. Nope. Nice suggestion
PLEASE note everyone - MY issue is not merely "I can't get my emails to send" ... as if I am trying to figure out the proper settings or trying to get email sending to work for the first time
Emails USED to send until I upgraded to WM 6.1 ... for 2 years
If my settings were wrong, if there were some incompatibility between the network and my smtp server then my emails would NEVER have sent.
As it is ... they send sometimes (when I set up the email client with a new account).

A lot of the senior members here (including yourself) seem to know what they are talking about and are quite helpful - despite many others answering without bothering to read the question. So thanks
I honestly and at a brick wall here. The only thing that seems to make sense is some sort of concept that involves my smtp settings being corrupted (upon saving or sending) ...
And I mean corrupted - since they work consistently for a few hours and then stop.
Other than that, I haven't a clue - neither do tmobile nor my hosting (and for once I feel sorry for them - since the time they put in trying to troubleshoot far exceeds any profit they might make from me).
i dont know if this will work or not but its a suggestion since I also own a domain with Godaddy. Sometimes even my SMTP fails though I am using WM6 and not WM6.1 so this is what i have done.
Goto www.mobisync.com and setup ur account with them. They support upto 5 accounts. Then configure ur settings according to the site.
There are 2 advantages for this. 1 is that you get push email in real time and when u send email its using mobisync servers and not the godaddy SMTP.
Also it totally free.
i am using this with no problems till now. I suggest you try it and its very easy to setup mobisync on ur cell phone...will probably take 30sec or less.
Hope this helps...cheers mate..!!
Hi - thanks for chiming in ...
actually I am not looking for "alternatives" - I am looking to solve the problem with the email client. If I need to send emails I can indeed send from my PC, or even webmail from my phone or just about anywhere else.
Sure, I can use some sort of network based email, IMAP or Microsoft exchange or whatever.
RIght now I want to solve the issue at hand. It's sort of like my trying to get about microsoft word on my PC working again, and getting suggests to type my letters in a text editor or other client. I *know* other ways exists - but this way is the one I prefer and it should be working. Clearly there is a problem and I'd like to solve it.
If no one else is experiencing this issue (in this forum), then I'll have to consider something specific with my setup/network etc .. but then again 6.1 has not been out long enough to make that assumption yet.
I appreciate the ideas and help - keep them coming - eventually we'll hit upon something.

Since you can initially send, your setting must be at least basically correct. It sounds more like the SMTP session is not being closed correctly, since deleting and recreating (which would be effectively a close) works. I would guess WM6.1 thinks the connection is still active but the server has closed it. You really need a trace of the SMTP session.
As a work around/test you need is another completely different SMTP server you can authenticate with. I suggest your home ISP. They should have one you can authenticate with for use when travelling. Try it with that. If it works there is a compatibility issue between the Godaddy SMTP server and WM6.1 so you will need a trace for us to figure out what is going on. If it doesn't work there as well, well we still need that trace.
Darn, your suggested sounded promising - and I did indeed spend about 2 hours chasing it. I tried smtp from my cable op - who is my broadband isp ... no luck - same problem. Then I got on the phone with t-mobile, using their smtp settings. Same issue.
We're all stumped.
Not sure how to do a trace of the smtp session from my device.
Again - this worked for 2 years (until WM 6.1) - at which point sending worked for a few hours then not. The only way it works again is if I create a new account with the same settings.

It's OFFICIAL- WM 6.1 is the problem !
Damn. Damn.
OK - after yet ANOTHER 4 hour marathon session with Tmobile tier 3 support - in trying everything ... SMTP email still does not send reliably
(again - starting with WM 6.1, emails simple do not send - no timeout no port errors, bounceback, security issues). The only way it sends is if I create a NEW account with the identical settings. Then it will work for several hours 2-4 ... then emails go back to not-sending.
Finally after a total of over 30 hours of testing in the last 8 days (yeah, I've got a full time job too, and had been traveling!) ... I had to go to a tmobile store and side by side test with a WM 6.0 dash. Same everything - settings etc. 6.0 works. 6.1 not.
And where would I officially report this?
Even more of a tragedy since I absolutely loved everything else in 6.1
PLEASE PLEASE (whoever does these things) - please post a fix or rom update!
Please!

I would recommend waiting for an official release from T-Mobile or HTC before filing any bug reports.
"Hi, I downloaded a hacked beta rom from some website and it doesn't work right" doesn't usually get them moving fast.
Well, I sort of meant reporting this to whomever ported. I honestly don't know the logistics here of what ROM I have or how it came about. the point of confusion (on this point) is that the announcement and link for the 6.1 release actually appeared on a T-Mobile affiliated blog or site (forget which) - giving the perhaps mistaken impression that this was some sort of official release for the Dash - only that T-mobile was not yet supporting it. I definitely claim ignorance here.
My comment about reporting the bug - was more about letting the person/team who "ported" WM 6.1 to the Dash know about this issue. I am sure they would want to know (especially if this issue was specific to the port). Just because I posted a thread on this issue does not mean that the right people know about it yet - which is why I mentioned it.
Thanks
smtp problem with wm 6.1
is there a solution to this problem yet? I have the same problem since upgrading to 6.1. I've noticed that it appears to be related to smtp authentication. It seems to work ok on an earthlink account i have, which does not require smtp authentication.
No solution yet. Problem still persists (though intermittent). Seems to be related to 6.1 not resetting or saving a security certificate or something. But I am no expert. All I know is I can no longer rely on my Dash for SMTP email since upgrading to 6.1
i'm having the exact same issue
i have my phone setup for imap with gmail and i can receive perfectly fine, but it wont send
i delete the account and recreated it and it worked but after a few hours stop sending again
any fix?
How can i tell the phone to use port 26 instead of port 25 for SMTP?
I am not seeing an option for ports.
Just put the port number on the end of the mail server name, e.g.
Code:
smtphost.mydomain.com:26
That should sort it

My webhosting service, i can either use SMTP on port 26, or SSL SMTP on port 465, neither works with the my.domain.com:26 or :465
Trying to do the autodetection when setting up a new account fails to detect settings, and i matched what i use on the phone with my desktop client's setup and all i see is identical, with exception of a port field, and the phone client does not have an option to check TLS, which is checked on the desktop client's settings.
after a few iterations i found the problem, they tell me for manual setup to use username+mydomain.com as username for smtp server, but in the windows .reg files they used [email protected], so i changed the username to that and put the port back on with :26 and now it works. the + for the @ still works for pop3 and imap, not so smtp
Tried that and it still says sending failed.

Just noticed the above comment from one of your earlier posts.....and another idea came to me
Apparently (though I've never experienced it myself), there is a known issue with Windows Mobile 6.1 and SMTP; it throws an error of "The messages(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again". If that's the error you were referring to, you may want to check this out.
Also, have you tried changing the username/password for the SMTP so that the username is with an "@" rather than a "+" (or vice versa ) to see if that makes any difference?
OK, that's me all out of suggestions - hope you get this sorted soon!!! Sounds like you're close, but not quite 100%
Mark.
The switching of + to @ to match what they had in their registry files to be merged on a windows computer did fix it.
I checked out your link and it's interesting since i did not have the :26, and so the send failed, i fixed that and i can email ever since, i hope the guys on that link are wrong, so i don't have to recreate it, from looks of it they are wrong, since it failed on the first try without the :26 ;P
So let's hope it stays this way, thanks for the link, if it does seize to work, then i know what to blame and delete and recreate it.

Thanks for that link, it explained the madness that I was going through. What an annoying bug.
All,
Why all the fuss to Chevron Unlock or any other hack when you can just register it as a developer phone and unlock it officially for free????
Oh, maybe you all didn't know about the free part, maybe that is the piece of magic everyone is seeking...
Here is how to register your phone as a developer phone FOR FREE....
1. Get and verify a Dreamspark account. Two options here....
a. If you are a student with an email address ending in .edu just go to www.dreamspark.com, register and verify the email address.
2. Create an Apphub account and link it to your Dreamspark LiveId.
a. After Dreamspark is verified, go to http://create.msdn.com/en-US/ register your Windows Live ID and signup as a student. It will ask if you have a verified Dreamspark account, follow the steps to link the two accounts. (I didn't take screenshots but intuitive)
3. Populate your required profile information to the point that "My Dashboard-->My Windows Phone" does not show any more pending tasks.
a. You MUST go through the process to submit a "DummyApp" for Windows Mobile 6.5 to Windows MarketPlace before Geotrust will send you the email to verify your identity. Just put "Dummyapp for id verification" in the notes sections. You will have to upload a .cab and a bunch of icons that all have to be sized properly. Just take a .png file and resize it a bunch of times and upload it. Doesn't matter what it is.
b. Geotrust will send an email requesting you to verify some info. I received it about 10 minutes after submitting my app, but could take 24 hours. I answered 4 questions, and then about 2 hours later Apphub took off the "identity verification pending" alert.
c. I also submitted my bank account info, but not sure if this was necessary.
4. Download the Windows phone developer tools from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=04704acf-a63a-4f97-952c-8b51b34b00ce
5. Run the Windows Phone Developer Registration tool. Sign in with Windows Live ID you registered at AppHub, connect your phone and make sure it is not screen locked, viola, Windows 7 Phone now unlocked. And you can unlock 2 other Windows 7 phones too for a total of 3 phones.
Total process took less than 24 hours due to waiting on Geotrust and MS confirm.
-Paul

I assume he ment that Dreamspark is for students that cannot afford the software but can bring in revenue to Microsoft with the program and games they create. So, if you signup under the guise of a student, you can kind of defrauding Microsoft. But I guess that is a moral issue, so most people may not care. But, there are also schools and online classes that do not provide any sort of educational email addresses, so having a way to gain access as someone studying and taking classes, is nice. So, in those cases I think its ok. I personally use a Austraila.edu email since my online classes didn't provide anything. But, this might be a nice way to get an unlock if you are NoDo and can Go(do) back.
I keep getting the following error when I get to step 2a:

Hmmm only have one problem.
You have to submit an APP and does it come up in marketplace ?.
Dont know how to get a "Dummy APP" to put on market for Winmobile 6.5 or 7.
If you can just put in a random app witch does not get in marketplace then i guess its no problem.
*edit*
Made a Winphone 7 app that does not have any purpose, lets check what happens
All this works.
Sadly I failed the geotrust verification, so I have to send a signed document with a copy of my national ID. Let's hope they believe my history about living in the states but having a ID of another country.
All works fine until i had to verify my account after publishing the dummy app. But now verifying failed and i have to send them my copy of id etc. But how the hell could i send them my info when i give them fake ( generated ) info?

I just said im not from the states but im allowed to have a free marketplace account since im dreamspark verified so this is my dutch passport and it was fine, no lies and we dont have a marketplace either. I had to sign it as well its a 5 minute job and if it takes to long you can open up a chat session and they will process it straight away. I think they are not even reading it haha, i started a chatsession didnt say a word, signed off and minute late got the you are verifie mail.
Man please how did you send them that letter? Can you show me some screenshot how it looks like ? x)

Sadly it'd require me giving you my Windows Live ID & password, which I'm not exactly fond of lol. You need to enter it into the unlocker tool installed on the pc the device is connected to. Just folow the information giving by the OP closely with your real information (don't make up a fake ID) & it'll work. It took a couple hrs for me to finally get verified.
Where is 1B?
Removed..?!

No because it contains my id and autograph.
But its very simple, just print the mail they snend you, fill in everything add a copy of your id, scan it and email it back. Its not even a letter, just add what i said above as your motivation.
Did you received the email from geotrust?
****, I'm stucked again.
The apphub doesn't let me choose my country, so I chose USA and now geotrust rejects my documentation because it's not from the USA.
Ahh, Microsoft, always fu*king the third world.
TESTED ON MANGO, AND WORKED FINE
Gentlemen,
I have found the reg key in some posts to disable the lock code for the windows phone, if you have configured the exchange e-mail account in Phone.
I was unable to view the specific reg key in normal registry editor. So I have converted the reg key to an xap file by using provxml method. And you can apply the key even if you don't have the registry editor app installed on your device.
Steps:
1. Deploy the xap file to your developer unlocked device.
2. Launch the app.
3. Tap on the green button, it should gibe you a success message.
4. Uninstall the app.
5. It may require to restart the device, since this is a registry change.
5. U r done. Now u will be able to turn off your phone security code even if you have configured the exchange e-mail account in your phone.
I have tested on my chevron unlocked HTC HD7, and it is working fine.
Hope some one will be looking for this.
Note: it's recommended to keep your phone with lock code enabled, but sometimes we need to keep the phone unlocked for some reasons.
If you install this xap, it will enable another wonderful feature..
By default, the 10 invalid attempts will erase ur phone. But after you install this xap, the password will be locked out for 1 min after 5 invalid attempts. Then after each attempts, the lockout time will double. I have tried untill the phone lockedout for 64 minutes. Then I stopped trying with the invalid lock codes. It will help you to keep the data safe, if anyone play with the phone, especially kids.
Note: Please don't try after 5-6 attempts if the phone didn't get locked out, may be this not compatible on your device. You may lose your data. I applied this on my T-Mobile HD7, and it is working fine.
Hit thanks if you like my post..
Thanks
JAZEEL
So I just applied the registry change in your provxml, and it temporarily works,i.e. it enables the option in the lock and wallpaper screen to disable the password, but next time you sync email the policy is reenforced and you have to set a pin again.
Are you also changing the permissions to that reg key in your xap somehow? haven't got a machine with the dev tools handy to try the actual xap out.

I have tested myself, and it's a permanent solution. It's stays for ever. But I don't know what will happen if you reconfigure the exchange account..
Is there any way to keep a timeout for the lock? I find it very irritating to enter the unlock code every time the device wakes up
@OP, what is the reg key for the change? You must know that to make an XAP?

Doesn't Work ...
Hi I tried this unlocker but it is not working for me every time I connect to the computer (Zune and Windows Phone Device Manager) it relocks and have to chevron unlock again.
Any suggestions?
Hello OP,
I have a Sprint HTC Arrive, I got the following message just trying to launch the xap file:
(WARNING)
(The carrier doesn't exist in database. Please contact your carrier for connection setting and go to Setting>cellular>edit
APN for further configuration.)
Theres no APN in my settings that I see, any help would be great, thanks

This is to disable the lock code on the phone if you have enabled the exchange account which will force to put the lock code.
To permanent developer unlock, please search in xda, someone already posted it before and I have applied that on my HD7.

I have checked on my HTC HD7 T-Mobile unlocked.. It's working fine..
Search for the reg key for your specific device, and if you find I will help you to deploy it on your device..

Thanks for your response, the only reg i've ever found to disable the lock on my device is the one you posted and built into your xap file. For some reason the reg doesn't exist in my phone and I can't create it either.
Most likely why you put this together for us. But on my end here, I now have to app to my phone, once I go to launch it I get the message from my previous post, it just wont deploy/launch. Any ideas up i'm for trying.!!
Thank you,
The reg key is protected, so you can't browse to it, but you can still use a tool like advanced explorer to set it by manually specifying the full path and value to change.
I was able to set the value manually like this, but like I mentioned the value is set back automatically next time your phone sync's with exchange. The policy must get checked on every sync with exchange, and gets set back if your exchange server requires a PIN policy.
From what I can ascertain this XAP simply sets that value, so you would have to run this xap after every sync which isn't a great solution.

I have tried it as mentioed in some old posts. But it is not working. Only thing I could do is to activate the ON/OFF button with this reg key, so that I can disable the code at any time.
I presume you guys know this already, but just for the heck of it.
You're bypassing a policy. A policy that's most likely you companies' policy. If you do lose your phone and people are able to access files or e-mails that are highly important and/or confidential, you could take the blame for leaking this information.
This could mean the company would sue you for all kinds of things, and it would be very much possible they would fire you. There is a reason the policy is enforced.
I can see why you want to disable the policy, but, as said, there is a reason your company wants that policy on a device that connects to their Exchange server and it's not to annoy you.

You are right. I recommend to keep the phone locked always.
It meant for some situation, where we need the phone need to be stayed unlocked. Atleast we should have the option for it.

Thanks mum. But seriously...
I think this is a perfect example of a security policy being set which isn't realistic, so users find workarounds. Like when you mandate everyone has a 50 character password which has to be changed once a week, everyone simply ends up writing them down on post it notes.
The PIN code every time you want to use your phone is bloody annoying. It could improved to make it more useable, e.g.:
Only require a PIN if it's been more than 30 minutes since you last entered it.
Only require a PIN when accessing data in exchange like calendar/email.
Specify certain actions which don't require a PIN unlock, e.g. playing music or games.
Anyhow this is mostly irrelevant as this hack is only temporary and the setting reverts so that's a killjoy.

Lol, you have a point, but or colleague above is quite correct, the policy is enforced for a reason. At my company, such an offense can mean instant dismissal
(if you use exchange for just calendar and contacts, as i do, a pin is not required to unlock, the policy is only enforced for email strangely enough....)
I agree the Pin should be how it was in WM 6.5 where you could have it only ask after 2 hours or evey 24 in some cases. That way if was a good balance. This business of requiring the PIN every time you look at your phone is crap. I have removed it from my droid device and I am fornunate that my company will not hassle me over it. Still though its a bunch a crap to enter it every 5 minutes.
