Has anyone got any good suggestions for connecting my Black 2.0 flashed Hermes to a Linux (Ubuntu) PC?
I'm not at all bothered about syncing anything, all I need to do is transfer files.
Ideally I'd like to be able to mount it.
Ive tried wm5torage with no success. I couldn't get it to work with the original T-mobile rom, or with Black 2.0, in Windows or Linux, Despite having turned off the advanced USB stuff.

I have no problems whatsoever with sending files between my FC6 and Hermes (regardless WM5 or WM6). When beaming files from Hermes to computer, be sure to run Bluetooth File Sharing (gnome-obex-server) daemon first. In the other way I'm using nautilus-sendto-bluetooth plugin, which enables sending files by right-clicking it and choosing 'Send to...' submenu.
Sorry I forgot to specify, I'd rather transfer files via USB.

Oh, I see. I was able to do it through wm5torage and Wizard, but never succeeded with Hermes. I don't need it that much, so I have also never investigate how to make it work. Sorry.

HI! After I flashed my TyTN second time, Active Sync on my home computer and my work computer detect the phone and freeze with "Retrieving settings" dialog.... I thought it has something to do with the phone, but on any other computer that I not synced before , my laptop or new xp and vista instalations on other partition on my home computer(same computer and same cable, and same software installed!) it sync perfectly.
I tryied to find any residual registry or files to delete (i delete the profiles in document and settings) but can't find anything to solve this. I tryied reinstalling Active Sync 4.5 but donst help either.
Active Sync troubleshooting dont solve anything.
Someone know a workarround o what files can be creathing this ?
What do Active Sync while displaying "Retrieve settings" ?
Go into Start>settings>connections>usb to pc
untick the box...then try.
Thanks but dosn't help. Cannot enter that option, and I can sync on others pcs and other o.s. (in another patition) on the same computer without changing anything on the pocketpc.
I googled and found lots of peobple with the same trouble and no one find any solution.
PS: I dont have any firewall and tested switching off all networks interfaces. I can ping the pocktpc assigned ip perfectly.

Works for me (HTC Wizard, WM6, ActiveSync 4.5), thanks
i'm trying to connect my tytn to my girlfriend's laptop. it doesn't obviously have ActiveSync on it. Last year i could get it to work with wireless modem application, but since i've installed WM6, i can't use it anymore. moreover, when i try to connect it to pc with Internet Sharing i get a "generic RNDIS" hardware detection message, and i do not own this driver. i'm on vacation and i don't know how to do it, so any help will be appreciated. thanks in advance
That driver is part of activesync i think so you'll need to download that...
Cheers,
Smiffy.
What you coul do to avoid active sync setup is to copy program files\active sync on the girlfriend's computer. When windows asks for the driver till him to seek in the copied directory.
After you get the driver setuped you can safely remove the copied directory

Nice tips!

Currently share files on my latop and pc through a BT Home hub.
Now got an XDA and want to be able to access my laptop files and PC files from my XDA through my homehub.
Have pinged my XDA in Comd prompt from my laptop so I know that is working.
Have tried in my XDA file explorer to open path using the format //Desktop_Name assuming my desktop name is my laptop or computer name found in system settings.
That comes to nothing though and after trawling the net for ages have had no luck.
Do I need to set up a VPN? If so I have no idea how to do this. BT Home hubpages are no use.
Can anyone help me please!!!
Maybe you should check firewall settings on your hub. Some WiFi routers allow traffic on ping ports but disallow on other ports. Additionally try to explore your PC with IP number, not name (\\www.xxx.yyy.zzz format) using Total Commander.
Good luck,
yeap, I've tried that, but it still says i cannot access the server. firewall settings seem ok. Surely it must be possible to link up wirelessly with my PC???
can anyone offfer further help??
Try to turn firewall on laptop completely off for tests. I remember there is WM version of ping - install it on PDA and tray to ping laptop to be sure that PDA -> laptop traffic goes without problems. Then make network share on laptop and try with Total Commander again.
so basically i need total commander on both my PC and latop??
no just the pda
though total commander is a very nice browser on pc too
i've been using it since windows 3.11
Yeah, I geuss what i am after is a bit of step by step direction on what to di. I am new to all this and have an ok knoweldge of computers and setting up networks etc. However i am still none the wiser.
1. I have dowloaded Total Commander, but need to register. In saying that I am not sure where to place the registry key. Dont want to frag my PC
2. Have checked my firewall settings for the home hub and in my McAffee sfotware. All seems ok.
still none the wiser how to set it all up. Do I install the total commander .exe to the PDA direct?? Dunno!
Please can someone help me step by step. Its got to be worth a beer or two ;-)
If you want to access you pc by BT then just go to "Start"->"Programs" and run "Bluetooth Explorer" make sure BT on you pc is enabled. After running BTexplorer there will be a popup on you pc asking for folder to share/save files.
the pocketpc total commander exe is an activesync install which have to be run on the pc
As I've previously mentioned in two other threads, I've flashed the HTC 1.33 WM6 ROM to my Excalibur (previously using T-Mo WM6 ROM). It only offers the horrid ClearVue suite instead of Office Mobile. I've followed the instructions on how to install the .msi for Office Mobile 6.1 to my PC (while ActiveSync is connected to my device). The strange thing is...it doesn't recognize my phone as even being a Windows Mobile device! I have my USB enabled through ActiveSync, so there should be nothing wrong with my connection. It sounds like an issue with the ROM. Any suggestions???
Yeah. Install ricky's or Kavana's ROMs!!

That was the thread I followed in the first place... After installing the .msi file, I attempted to run it from my PC desktop (while the S621 remains connected to ActiveSync). The message continuously pops up stating that the program does not recognize a Windows Mobile device connected. Thanks anyway, though.

Just got the Verizon Touch Pro 2 and am trying to install a few third party programs like:
List Pro
Magic Button
Splash ID
Memaid
I connect my device when trying to install, it says to check my mobile device screen to see if further steps are needed, but nothing is showing and nothing is happening.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks so much!

And you're sure that the apps didn't end up showing up in your programs list?
First, when you plug your phone to the PC, does it show any other signs of conenction? You should first get an option on the device screen to choose between "disk drive" and "active sync"...when you're installing apps from your PC desktop to the phone, you need to be connected via the active "active sync" option. Once you are, you'll see either Active Sync (on XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (on Vista/7) open on your desktop. You may have already gotten that far, I just wanted to make sure you're connected properly that way.
The next thing to try would be to install the apps straight from the phone, instead of via the PC. To do that, just connect the phone via "disk drive" option, copy the .cab file over to the phone (on to the SD card is best), and just run it from there to install straight to the phone. Running the desktop .exe installer just automates that step for you, but otherwise it's the same process. Running the .cab file from the phone bypasses any possible issues with the active-sync connection.
I've attached the .cab for the memmaid app here, try that one first.

Thanks so much for the reply! I actually managed to get the programs installed via my ActiveSync connection - finally! Not sure what the problem was before.
I plan on keeping your instructions, though, in case this happens again. Thanks so much for the reply.
