Just got the Verizon Touch Pro 2 and am trying to install a few third party programs like:
List Pro
Magic Button
Splash ID
Memaid
I connect my device when trying to install, it says to check my mobile device screen to see if further steps are needed, but nothing is showing and nothing is happening.
Can someone please advise?
Thanks so much!

And you're sure that the apps didn't end up showing up in your programs list?
First, when you plug your phone to the PC, does it show any other signs of conenction? You should first get an option on the device screen to choose between "disk drive" and "active sync"...when you're installing apps from your PC desktop to the phone, you need to be connected via the active "active sync" option. Once you are, you'll see either Active Sync (on XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (on Vista/7) open on your desktop. You may have already gotten that far, I just wanted to make sure you're connected properly that way.
The next thing to try would be to install the apps straight from the phone, instead of via the PC. To do that, just connect the phone via "disk drive" option, copy the .cab file over to the phone (on to the SD card is best), and just run it from there to install straight to the phone. Running the desktop .exe installer just automates that step for you, but otherwise it's the same process. Running the .cab file from the phone bypasses any possible issues with the active-sync connection.
I've attached the .cab for the memmaid app here, try that one first.

Thanks so much for the reply! I actually managed to get the programs installed via my ActiveSync connection - finally! Not sure what the problem was before.
I plan on keeping your instructions, though, in case this happens again. Thanks so much for the reply.

I will, believe me! In fact, I have only had my TP2 for about 3 days but have a few "issues" going on, so I will start a new thread and am looking forward to getting some help.
I love support forums! They rock

Ok I searched on the forums hard for this one so forgive me if this has already been answered. I see to find people with Windows Mobile 6 and Windows XP or people with Windows Vista but Windows Mobile 5.
Since I'm running Vista, I use Windows Mobile Device Center instead of ActiveSync. The functionality of the program is fine, so I have no complaints. However, to upgrade ROMs or anything...I use an XP Machine as it seems Vista seems to think the device disconnects upon the loading of the bootloader. I've read somewhere in the forums that there is a driver update to fix that, but after applying...WMDC doesn't work properly...so I'd save the trouble and use a machine that has XP running instead until a better fix comes along.
My 8525 came stock with a program called Wireless Modem as of ROM 1.34.502.1 shipped, which seems to have been replaced by Internet Sharing.
The Wireless Modem application worked fine after setting up the modem with the Vista driver also found in the forums. I also tested the bluetooth connection and set that up to tether as well and it worked fine.
I finally decided to upgrade after days of reading and I tried to use the Wireless Modem feature. I noticed it wasn't there and tried to use Internet Sharing. The layouts are similar...but when I hook up the phone under USB, my computer doesn't even recognize it as a new device (modem) as I did uninstall the last driver.
When connected via Bluetooth, it recognized the device and installed the driver as Windows Mobile-based device support by default. Under services, only Active Sync is only available...as opposed to before when I had Dial-Up networking available. When I set up a PAN, the computer and device are connected together, however I do get the same problem as some others with a connection that is limited or local only. So the tethering is unsuccessful.
I recently upgraded my Cingular 8525 to WM6BE v1.2 (Cingular Edition)...which I can't seem to find in the threads anymore. I'm also running Radio 1.38.00.11...but I don't think that would affect anthing. I reverted back to my shipped ROM to check for alternate settings that might have helped...then I was going to revert back to WM6BE v1.2 Cingular...then I realized I accidently deleted that custom ROM and I couldn't find it anymore. I was stuck putting on the WM6BE v1.2 on the sticky thread after which forced me to reinstall the data settings/keyboard fix from the cab files. Haven't had problems with them but I did like that customized ROM for Cingular a little better considering I really like "clean" ROMs.
Anyway, I'm attempted to connect via MEdia Net AND Cingular GPRS settings provided by the Cingular Data Settings cab floating around the forums. It works fine it seems...it just seems like the problem is getting Vista to recognize the device as a modem, or at least having modem capabilities.
I guess thats as detailed as I can get right now. Hopefully someone can help now ^_^
You are right. I tried updating rom on Vista's Windows mobile Device and end up damaging my xda2i. The device displays "USB" when connected to cradle and "Serial v1. 01" when not. Do you have a solution apart from upgrading?
Solution on Vista
Hello Guys, I'm running vista too and I bothered 2 hours before getting it done.
So this is one of the "Step-By-Step Instruction Guides".
0. Extract the attached file into a directory of your choice
1. Disconnect your Device
2. Goto Settings > Connections and choose "USB To PC"
3. Uncheck the option there
4. Reconnect your Device
5. Goto your DeviceManager and search for "HTC USB Sync", double click it and choose Drivers
6. Click on the "Update Driver"-Button and choose search on the computer
7. Click "Choose a driver from list..."
8. Click the button to the right (Open from Media)
9. Choose any INF File from the extracted ones.
10. You're done, upgrade your ROM.
11. To Rollback drivers, use the "Automatic Update" instead of Manually selecting (it will choose the newest ones)
12. Recheck the option of step 2 unless you're planning to use the slow variant.
Have Phun and Good Luck
Have I understand right? With this tweak We will be able to applied ROM upgrades to our HERMES from windows VISTA?
Confirmed.
I did already update my ROM in this way.
Cheers,
soniX
EDIT:
Please use HardSPL or something equal to be sure the risk is at a minimum.
And I can not be held responsible for any damage to your Hermes or your Brain
But as I said, for me it worked perfectly, remember to Restore the new Drivers or the Mobile Device Center will not work.
Hmm I don't think you people understand what I was asking...
I already know about that method to update with Vista...I actually tried it yesterday and for some reason it didn't work so I just use an XP Machine for now...but I was just asking merely about TETHERING.
I already have the ROMs of my choice loaded on my device.
In simpler words: How do I go about tethering (Running Internet Sharing) when my computer does not recognize the device as a modem...through USB or Bluetooth.
I'm running WM6BE v1.2 and Windows Vista Ultimate.
Maybe its Wm6BE, but I have used all the other roms (xda live, des, lsvw) and all I do is plug in the usb, start internet sharing and it connects no problem. Have to start internet sharing before wmdc starts. Internet Sharing works great, better than wireless modem. I was not able to use the WM6be due to problems with sbp pocket plus. I am currently using XDA live .30 and Vista Ultimate.
Does the technique in the post above work??
Also once that procedure is carried out can rom updates and RUU programs be used exactly the same as on XP??
If anyone is available to do some screenshots for me for an updated GUIDE, please PM me (i dont use or have a copy of vista )
I enjoy the community so I think I'll do my best to contribute to it. When I get the chance, I'll try to make a guide with screenshots on using Windows Vista and loading WM6.
I'm going to try to switch to LVSW build with his new update today and I'll see how that works out.
I REALLY like the one custom build someone made (I forgot who) with the Cingular connection settings defaulted from the Cingular Shipped ROMs...I wish I can find those files again.
It seems like the people developing the new Cingular data connection cab files are really working hard at getting the default settings as if they just bought their phoes straight from Cingular.
I'll let you know how LVSW goes with Internet Sharing and Windows Vista

Also, I've seen this guide posted twice...yours missing one step where I was supposed to "End WMDC.exe Process in Task Manager"
I still can't get Vista to run RUU...do you run the RUU with your device in Bootloader? I think I even tried that once and and still couldn't get it to work with the older Driver.
Not exactly sure what I'm missing or doing wrong...but its definitely after I install the driver. It acts as if I didn't install it at all, even if I check in drive details and its all correct in there.
i tried the method above for upgrading in vista and it didnt work for me...
what am i missing?
Where is it stopping?
Because I did it once, it has to work.
Where is it stopping? - At the bootloader (LSD-Screen with psychedelic colors ?) - or before ?
I will do an upgrade in the afternoon again and this time i will record ALL of my steps.
Hopefully I'll find the recept for the cake.
Cheers,
soniX
Yea it gets to the bootloader screen and I'm stuck as if I never loaded the AS4.5 drivers.
Sorry, too less time today for a screenshot-decorated guide.
I just upgraded my device again (only to proove it does work).
So here is again a guide, which differs to the first one.
I guess there are two ways to do this...
Prequesites:
- Search my previous post and download the USBAS.zip-File
- Extract it into a directory...
- You'll need your device and it has to be connected, too
The first approach:
Change the Serial-Driver
- On the device click Start > Settings, choose "Connections" there and click on "USB to PC"
- uncheck the item for "Enhanced..." there
- Click on OK.
- Now goto your Device Manager.
- Search an Item named "HTC USB Sync".
- Right-click it and choose "Update Driver".
- Choose the second option, then select to choose manually
- Select the directory where the zip has been extracted to and choose any inf file.
Start the Update-Tool
- After the driver-update you need to set the device back to RNDIS-Mode (follow Step 1 and recheck the option)
- Verify that you're running the correct drivers for the RNDIS-Device, the date in the device-manager has to be around January, 17th 2007.
- Start the ROM-Upgrade.
- It should work now.
For me it did not really work to switch from RNDIS to USB-Serial drivers in my localized (thanks bepe for the great work!) german WM6.
So if you have a problem with the first method use this one.
- Start your Device-Manager, we have to be very fast.
- Start the ROM-Upgrade as you've probably done before
- If the bootloader starts up, you'll notice a device/dettached,device/attached sound, this is your sign, goto to you Device-Manager.
- Search for the Entry "HTC USB Sync".
- Update drivers like it's written above.
- If it won't work and the upgrade tool dies with "cannot connect", don't worry. Reset your device (soft) and try again, this time you should not need to update the drivers.
Cheers,
soniX
I'm using XP and a USB cable. USed to work OK before upgrading to WM6 Black but now I get Error 797 on the PC saying modem not found or busy!

Take a look here
Code:

For Vista guide with screen shots, so far i've only flashed HardSPLv4 from inside Vista, but it worked i'm still plucking up enough courage to do a full flash of WM6
Nic
I do this (for Hard-SPL, don't know for other):
I have made what it was written on modaco (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=252977), but
1) I was not in bootloader.
2) While active sync try to connect (but it does not succeed because they are not its driver) I've stopped WMDC.EXE and now hermes is connected.
3) NOW I do a flash.
If there is something that is not clear you say it to me.
My method also works (for me)
Can somebody confirm that my method works for vista?
soniX
I'm based also to your method, but it would be more complete to integrate it with the method on modaco.
It seems that most people didn't get the point of this thread...weird considering I put TETHERING in the subject line. However, it is nice to see people trying to help others with Vista to flash. I have the same problem myself but access to machines with XP nullify my real need for flashing on Vista for now.
I'm about to reinstall LVSW's latest ROM set for the billionth time and I'll try out tethering on that. It seems that people who were on WM6BE were having a hard time with Internet Sharing. I'll load a new rom and let you know how it goes.
Everyone's having problems lately with the new Roms and sync w/ Vista. I've used this on my last 5 Roms and it has worked every time.for WMDC (vista activesync) to work go into the device ID and name the phone "Pocket_PC" exactly how I typed it........no qoutes. ....oh and BTW make sure your Schaps Config also names the Device Pocket_PC
Let me know if it works for you
UPDATE!!!
ADDED: remove the advanced config program from your phone that works also!!
Any luck anyone?

Thanks for the tip!
Don't have a Vista box here @ work, but will try it later tonight. I wasn't having as much as an issue with it as some people. Sometimes I would have to kill mobsync and restart it for it to work.... I'll give this a try and see
Haven't had any problems synching with my Vista 32bit but if I do I'll try this..thanks
No Problem with Vista64 SP1
I have my 8525s named as such and have not had a problem synching or flashing with either my Vista64 SP1 desktop nor my Vista32 SP1 notebook. Thanks for your post, however!
This is weird because i have been having this issue lately too. Also my father with the same phone and different computer is having the same issue.
Seems to happen when im switching roms. FYI iv tested many Minella2d roms.
questions from a noob
I just got this phone, and my only other ventures into ROM changing was a Motorola ROKR E6 seems similar but I am trying to figure all of this out without a users manual, software disc, just by reading and trying to download.
My questions are how do I change the name of my phone. When I power on it says that it is pocketpc I already went to microsoft and downloaded the info for viista wdmc but I don't think that the computer recognizes the phone other than the auto play feature.
THanks
Tried your fix and, I am afraid, it didn't work for me. My Hermes still fails to sync after the intial setup.
not yet

if your phone is connected your good to go another way you can go to activesync is in Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Sync Ceter
I am not sure if I should post here or under Schaps' rom thread. I have Schaps 4.31 rom. For 4 days now my 8525 stopped syncing with the computer, but in the same time my contacts and my events/calendar on the phone disappeared. I reinstalled the rom again, I reinstalled the Windows Mobile 6.1, with no effetcs. When the computer odes the first sync and set-up it says that I don't have the outlook installed. I have it on the computer, and on the PDA I have the office. So I am kind of stucked. I tried the Pocket_PC ideea, but the only thing now is that the Windows Mobile Center stops working in the middle of syncing, and ... no results.
Thanks for help

it connected once and only once. After that i have to uninstall the device in device manager, unplug the phone, soft reset the phone, plug it in, and let it reinstall the driver. this happens every single time i need to connect to my PC.
VERY frustrating
Vista and sync issues
I have two 8525 phones - under Vista, one would sync, one would not. I kept getting the RNDIS error and unrecognized device. I connected the one that was good, and went to the device manager to get details about the drivers used.
I connected to one that did not connect, and got to the point where I could specify the driver location, pointing it to C:\Windows\WindowsMobile worked for me.
This is my first attempt at custom roms. When i connect my phone i am able to sync it with the computer successfully but when i run the Hard spl it says that the device cannot be found. Am i missing a step or setting here? thanks for any help

With your phone disconnected from the PC, try this:
-Open your start menu, select "settings", then go to the "connections" tab
-Select the "USB to PC" icon
-The first check box you see there will say "Enable Faster data synchronization".... you need to UNcheck that box. Hit "ok" and close out
-Try reconnecting the phone to the pc and see if it recognizes it now.
I know it sounds a little counter-intuitive to take that step, but it seems to clear this problem up for a lot of people

have you tried installing from an SD card, that may alleviate problems.
Install the enablerapinew.cab that cmonx puts out for exactly this situation.
Install on your sd card, run the cab, then try and hardSPL again. It worked for me when I was having similar situations.
Help, I did something wrong and I sort of cant use the phone anymore.
I installed a topbar. Unluckly I didn't read the info about it, and that it was made for Win 6.1.
I cannot access the menu, thus I cant uninstall the topbar or hard-reset my phone. There's a key combinatiou that's "Camera + Send + Power Button" that resets it. Problem resides there; My cellphone have a touch sensistive Send button, and this instruction is for a similar phone which possess a hard Send button. I can still, however, make calls and answer, send SMS's and read emails and activate bluetooth or wifi, but I can't start any app (I cant open the menu) or use the Mobile Device Center to do anything through USB (I've set it to connect directly as USB Mode and not to ask), I'll look for a Bluetooth dongle today to try to connect it through bluetooth.
I'm desperate. This phone is brand new but I already have made esthetical and hardware changes, so I've voided the warranty. Also that's a China phone, even though this particular model is able to update the ROM, I don't have the original ROM or knowledge to backup the actual one.
Any help is accepted. If there's any trick to go into "Add/Remove programs" without accessing the menus or to use some software hack to hard reset it thru Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, I'll be glad to know. If that's for any usage, I have Total Commander installed on this phone and I know how to edit the registry, but I can't start it.
Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Brazil
Thanks in advance and I'm really counting on you guys.
I'll be awaiting for an answer.
P.S.: I've been thinking - I don't know - about installing SPB Shell with some Auto Installer by the Mobile Device Center (over bluetooth) and let it start automatically, and by there, uninstall the culprit. Fiddling around, I've learnt how to trick the Mobile Device Center to make it install any CAB automatically, as if I've ran an auto-installer. My question is: would SPB Shell start automatically?
P.P.S.: Everything is working if I find another way to start it. Just the "start menu" died.
P.P.P.S.: No, I can't buy another phone. It's expensive here.
You can try MyMobiler, a PPC controller running on PC.
OR Try to remove it in Mobile Device Center if you can connect to it.
I don't have Mobile Device Center, using ActiveSync in win Xp but I believe you can remove on your Pc the partnership with your phone so next connection will start a new partnership where you can change the settings which prevent you from connecting Usb normally. Once you are connected, copy the file attached to your device, then take blackppc's advice, install MyMobiler http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499344 and navigate to the file, execute and it will open settings where you'll find remove function.
I hope it helps
That's the problem, I can't connect it through USB to Mobile Device Center because I've set it to autostart as "pendrive" and not ask me about if I want it to start like this or in Mobile Device Center compatibility..
I'll buy a Bluetooth dongle in 5 minutes by now and I'll tell ya what happened
--
I.. er.. bought the dongle, but I cannot configure it. It cannot find any of my devices or enter the dongle's configuration area. It works well enough, though, on the store computer. I've tested thru 2 Windows 7 Computers and it gave me the same error.. gosh
As I said, I don't have Mobile Device Center but there must be a way to delete partnership with your device... Try this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722321(WS.10).aspx or google these keywords "delete partnership Mobile Device Center" and see how.
Alright, I've managed to get the bluetooth dongle working (a Bluetooth service was disabled). Now I need to connect the phone to the Mobile Device Center. Problem is that I had connected it to MDC, but I had hard-reseted then, and seems like MDC finds the phone as a "new device", thus cannot connect over bluetooth. Can I force it to connect or something? I'm thinking that may be my only shot.
P.S.: I can access a sort of device explorer (when I put the USB cable in and out, it pops up a message asking if I want to see the Memory Card images, and then it opens a image viewer. I can delete folders from there, if that's of any use)

"On the mobile device:

In ActiveSync, click or tap Menu, then click or tap Connect via Bluetooth."
I cant reach it
I've got an GREAT idea: I can, still, acess the image viewer. From there, I can copy and move folders around. So, all that I have to do is to create a folder in my memory card called "Start", with one shortcut inside, leading to the "Add/Remove programs" or "Hard Reset" program and copy it to the Windows folder. Then I restart the phone and it'll fire up the selected app. JOB DONE.
I only need to know the name of the app/parameters for Add/Remove programs or Hard Reset. Basing on what Windows is, it might be some "xxxx.cpl -command".
I leave this job for you guys, now I feel that I can still save my phone!!
I'll try link it to Total Commander first, before anything
P.S.: I've found the following string to invoke the "Add/Remove programs" for Windows Mobile 6.1
"#ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,23?\Windows\shell.dll,13"
Would it work for windows 6.5?
P.P.S.: Meh, I cant create fake shortcuts that leads to nowhere on the local computer. How can I do it?
What a relief, God truly knows. My method worked. I can invoke anything from the phone using a shortcut. I've used the following line for the shortcut:
"33#ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,10"
It invoked the "Add/Remove programs"
Thanks for the help, I really felt you guys tried to help me
I never seen a case like mine, but who knows.
Here's what I did:
- Connected the USB Cable into the phone, and it started as a pendrive
- Created a folder inside the phone called "Start"
- Created a folder called DCIM and added some images in there
- Created a .lnk file using XXMKLINK (which makes links from anything I type)
- Copied the .lnk file to the "Start" folder
- Unplugged the USB. At this moment, a popup appeared on the screen "Do you want to view the images?" Press yes.
*If the above method doesn't work, you can try going into a SMS message, then click for "Insert a Picture". The same browser will open
- Go to the root of the SD Card, or anywhere the "Start" folder you've created is
- Press and hold it, select Copy
- Click on the left side button and select "Device"
- Go to Windows folder. It takes a while to open
- Copy your "Start" folder inside. Press Yes on any prompt
- Restart the phone.
Voilá! The app will be run on the next startup
I really hope to help someone with this trick, who knows more than it helped me.
The topic can be closed at any time.
Great news
This may be stupid, but couldn't find any cure...As title says - anyone knows how to disable the thing from auto-starting when I plug in my One X into the PC? Thanks
Do you use it HTC Sync Manager or did you install it just because of the drivers? If only because of the drivers, uninstall the whole thing and leave the drivers installed. Here's only the drivers if someone needs them: http://www.mediafire.com/?fye0ryom9wuyvrm (someone posted this on another thread, I take no credit).
If you do use HTC Sync Manager, one quick and easy way I found was to disable the HTCMonitorService.
Thanks for the input.
It is uninstalled and I don't use it. The thing is that the moment I plug in my phone, either of these happens:
- The setup of the Sync Manager starts automatically (if not installed), so I have to cancel it manually every time;
- The Sync manager itself launches (if installed).
There's no windows service or entry in the registry, nothing. It's obviously in the phone itself as an image, as the installation appears in my PC as a virtual drive the moment I plug in my phone.
I'm using JB.
You can try the auto-run settings in windows, or if you feel brave about it (and if rooted or maybe not, since i didnt try this) remove the htc stuff from your phone
Auto-run settings seems to be ignored, phone not rooted yet, but I was hoping to resolve this on Windows level...

I changed the auto-run settings and i dont get any messages anymore
Also did it but setting is ignored for some reason. Will try again, thanks. Now at least I know this *should* normally work
The autorun settings is one way to solve the problem but you'll still see a "cd drive" in Explorer when the phone is connected and I, for one, don't like that. If you want to "fix" that, connect your phone to the PC and press "Windows Key + Pause/Break", open "Device Manager" and under "DVD/CD-ROM drives" disable the one relevant to the phone.
You'll still be able to browse the files in the phone within Explorer, it's just the "cd drive" with HTC Sync Manager installation that won't appear anymore.
But of course! Can't believe I didn't think of that, thanks man! :good:
try disabling "HTCMonitorService" thru Computer Management>>Services and Applications>> Services

Worked like a charm, thanks @samhill22
You can also do what I do, go into your phone settings, apps, all, then scroll down to you see HTC Sync Manager and disable that. That'll prevent the installer from running on any computer. I havent seen any problems with my phone by doing this either, I still auto sync to drive and cloud services, all sync's work on my phone still like weather and account, and syncing music to say SongBird still works.
