Ok I searched on the forums hard for this one so forgive me if this has already been answered. I see to find people with Windows Mobile 6 and Windows XP or people with Windows Vista but Windows Mobile 5.
Since I'm running Vista, I use Windows Mobile Device Center instead of ActiveSync. The functionality of the program is fine, so I have no complaints. However, to upgrade ROMs or anything...I use an XP Machine as it seems Vista seems to think the device disconnects upon the loading of the bootloader. I've read somewhere in the forums that there is a driver update to fix that, but after applying...WMDC doesn't work properly...so I'd save the trouble and use a machine that has XP running instead until a better fix comes along.
My 8525 came stock with a program called Wireless Modem as of ROM 1.34.502.1 shipped, which seems to have been replaced by Internet Sharing.
The Wireless Modem application worked fine after setting up the modem with the Vista driver also found in the forums. I also tested the bluetooth connection and set that up to tether as well and it worked fine.
I finally decided to upgrade after days of reading and I tried to use the Wireless Modem feature. I noticed it wasn't there and tried to use Internet Sharing. The layouts are similar...but when I hook up the phone under USB, my computer doesn't even recognize it as a new device (modem) as I did uninstall the last driver.
When connected via Bluetooth, it recognized the device and installed the driver as Windows Mobile-based device support by default. Under services, only Active Sync is only available...as opposed to before when I had Dial-Up networking available. When I set up a PAN, the computer and device are connected together, however I do get the same problem as some others with a connection that is limited or local only. So the tethering is unsuccessful.
I recently upgraded my Cingular 8525 to WM6BE v1.2 (Cingular Edition)...which I can't seem to find in the threads anymore. I'm also running Radio 1.38.00.11...but I don't think that would affect anthing. I reverted back to my shipped ROM to check for alternate settings that might have helped...then I was going to revert back to WM6BE v1.2 Cingular...then I realized I accidently deleted that custom ROM and I couldn't find it anymore. I was stuck putting on the WM6BE v1.2 on the sticky thread after which forced me to reinstall the data settings/keyboard fix from the cab files. Haven't had problems with them but I did like that customized ROM for Cingular a little better considering I really like "clean" ROMs.
Anyway, I'm attempted to connect via MEdia Net AND Cingular GPRS settings provided by the Cingular Data Settings cab floating around the forums. It works fine it seems...it just seems like the problem is getting Vista to recognize the device as a modem, or at least having modem capabilities.
I guess thats as detailed as I can get right now. Hopefully someone can help now ^_^
You are right. I tried updating rom on Vista's Windows mobile Device and end up damaging my xda2i. The device displays "USB" when connected to cradle and "Serial v1. 01" when not. Do you have a solution apart from upgrading?
Solution on Vista
Hello Guys, I'm running vista too and I bothered 2 hours before getting it done.
So this is one of the "Step-By-Step Instruction Guides".
0. Extract the attached file into a directory of your choice
1. Disconnect your Device
2. Goto Settings > Connections and choose "USB To PC"
3. Uncheck the option there
4. Reconnect your Device
5. Goto your DeviceManager and search for "HTC USB Sync", double click it and choose Drivers
6. Click on the "Update Driver"-Button and choose search on the computer
7. Click "Choose a driver from list..."
8. Click the button to the right (Open from Media)
9. Choose any INF File from the extracted ones.
10. You're done, upgrade your ROM.
11. To Rollback drivers, use the "Automatic Update" instead of Manually selecting (it will choose the newest ones)
12. Recheck the option of step 2 unless you're planning to use the slow variant.
Have Phun and Good Luck
Have I understand right? With this tweak We will be able to applied ROM upgrades to our HERMES from windows VISTA?
Confirmed.
I did already update my ROM in this way.
Cheers,
soniX
EDIT:
Please use HardSPL or something equal to be sure the risk is at a minimum.
And I can not be held responsible for any damage to your Hermes or your Brain
But as I said, for me it worked perfectly, remember to Restore the new Drivers or the Mobile Device Center will not work.
Hmm I don't think you people understand what I was asking...
I already know about that method to update with Vista...I actually tried it yesterday and for some reason it didn't work so I just use an XP Machine for now...but I was just asking merely about TETHERING.
I already have the ROMs of my choice loaded on my device.
In simpler words: How do I go about tethering (Running Internet Sharing) when my computer does not recognize the device as a modem...through USB or Bluetooth.
I'm running WM6BE v1.2 and Windows Vista Ultimate.
Maybe its Wm6BE, but I have used all the other roms (xda live, des, lsvw) and all I do is plug in the usb, start internet sharing and it connects no problem. Have to start internet sharing before wmdc starts. Internet Sharing works great, better than wireless modem. I was not able to use the WM6be due to problems with sbp pocket plus. I am currently using XDA live .30 and Vista Ultimate.
Does the technique in the post above work??
Also once that procedure is carried out can rom updates and RUU programs be used exactly the same as on XP??
If anyone is available to do some screenshots for me for an updated GUIDE, please PM me (i dont use or have a copy of vista )
I enjoy the community so I think I'll do my best to contribute to it. When I get the chance, I'll try to make a guide with screenshots on using Windows Vista and loading WM6.
I'm going to try to switch to LVSW build with his new update today and I'll see how that works out.
I REALLY like the one custom build someone made (I forgot who) with the Cingular connection settings defaulted from the Cingular Shipped ROMs...I wish I can find those files again.
It seems like the people developing the new Cingular data connection cab files are really working hard at getting the default settings as if they just bought their phoes straight from Cingular.
I'll let you know how LVSW goes with Internet Sharing and Windows Vista

Also, I've seen this guide posted twice...yours missing one step where I was supposed to "End WMDC.exe Process in Task Manager"
I still can't get Vista to run RUU...do you run the RUU with your device in Bootloader? I think I even tried that once and and still couldn't get it to work with the older Driver.
Not exactly sure what I'm missing or doing wrong...but its definitely after I install the driver. It acts as if I didn't install it at all, even if I check in drive details and its all correct in there.
i tried the method above for upgrading in vista and it didnt work for me...
what am i missing?
Where is it stopping?
Because I did it once, it has to work.
Where is it stopping? - At the bootloader (LSD-Screen with psychedelic colors ?) - or before ?
I will do an upgrade in the afternoon again and this time i will record ALL of my steps.
Hopefully I'll find the recept for the cake.
Cheers,
soniX
Yea it gets to the bootloader screen and I'm stuck as if I never loaded the AS4.5 drivers.
Sorry, too less time today for a screenshot-decorated guide.
I just upgraded my device again (only to proove it does work).
So here is again a guide, which differs to the first one.
I guess there are two ways to do this...
Prequesites:
- Search my previous post and download the USBAS.zip-File
- Extract it into a directory...
- You'll need your device and it has to be connected, too
The first approach:
Change the Serial-Driver
- On the device click Start > Settings, choose "Connections" there and click on "USB to PC"
- uncheck the item for "Enhanced..." there
- Click on OK.
- Now goto your Device Manager.
- Search an Item named "HTC USB Sync".
- Right-click it and choose "Update Driver".
- Choose the second option, then select to choose manually
- Select the directory where the zip has been extracted to and choose any inf file.
Start the Update-Tool
- After the driver-update you need to set the device back to RNDIS-Mode (follow Step 1 and recheck the option)
- Verify that you're running the correct drivers for the RNDIS-Device, the date in the device-manager has to be around January, 17th 2007.
- Start the ROM-Upgrade.
- It should work now.
For me it did not really work to switch from RNDIS to USB-Serial drivers in my localized (thanks bepe for the great work!) german WM6.
So if you have a problem with the first method use this one.
- Start your Device-Manager, we have to be very fast.
- Start the ROM-Upgrade as you've probably done before
- If the bootloader starts up, you'll notice a device/dettached,device/attached sound, this is your sign, goto to you Device-Manager.
- Search for the Entry "HTC USB Sync".
- Update drivers like it's written above.
- If it won't work and the upgrade tool dies with "cannot connect", don't worry. Reset your device (soft) and try again, this time you should not need to update the drivers.
Cheers,
soniX
I'm using XP and a USB cable. USed to work OK before upgrading to WM6 Black but now I get Error 797 on the PC saying modem not found or busy!

For Vista guide with screen shots, so far i've only flashed HardSPLv4 from inside Vista, but it worked i'm still plucking up enough courage to do a full flash of WM6
Nic
I do this (for Hard-SPL, don't know for other):
I have made what it was written on modaco (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=252977), but
1) I was not in bootloader.
2) While active sync try to connect (but it does not succeed because they are not its driver) I've stopped WMDC.EXE and now hermes is connected.
3) NOW I do a flash.
If there is something that is not clear you say it to me.
My method also works (for me)
Can somebody confirm that my method works for vista?
soniX
I'm based also to your method, but it would be more complete to integrate it with the method on modaco.
It seems that most people didn't get the point of this thread...weird considering I put TETHERING in the subject line. However, it is nice to see people trying to help others with Vista to flash. I have the same problem myself but access to machines with XP nullify my real need for flashing on Vista for now.
I'm about to reinstall LVSW's latest ROM set for the billionth time and I'll try out tethering on that. It seems that people who were on WM6BE were having a hard time with Internet Sharing. I'll load a new rom and let you know how it goes.

Hi all,
I have been trying to check out the forum here, to try and solve my problem, I literally bought my JASJAR today, and it was giving some wierd behaviour. In an attempt to reload the software (I prefere to reload the entire ROM), something went wrong, now all thats on my screen is "USB" and a lil lower down "v1.01".
ActiveSync obviously not connecting now bcos the OS is not on the JASJAR no more, in my device manager is a "Microsoft USB Sync" under my mobile devices.
I downloaded what I am guessing is WM6, 'JASJAR_WWE_20106_20301_11300_wwe_ship' from another thread in this forum, tried to load that but cant communicate with device cos no activesync.
I have tried the different reset options, like the 2 function keys and the reset on the back, I push 0 to clear, and then it jus goes back to the USB v1.01 thing.
I am running windows vista home basic, with the Windows Mobile Device Center, it synced perfectly with this software, communicated properly with the update tool, until my device reset and activsync lost connection, then i was stuffed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like it is your first time with the upgrade. What you are seeing on the screen is the bootloader, which is what we use for flashing new ROMs.
ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (how come you have both on Vista?) will therefore not respond. This is fine, because we use a different program to load the new ROMs.
If you look at the folder you downloaded, chances are that there should be a program called "ROMUpgradeUt" or something similar. Provided that you have not changed anything in the folder, you should be able to flash the new ROM by simply following the instructions in the program.
You can also read this link for more information: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Here is an instruction guide on ROM upgrading: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269118
how come you have both on Vista?
Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I have both, I recently moved to Vista, and am used to calling it activesync and not WMDC.
Thanks, will have a look
Ok, well I have got it up and running again, only problem now is activsync keeps freezing when I try and sync the device...any ideas?
I landed up using my work computer, which has XP on it, and then used MTTY and that connected fine, on Vista it simply didnt wanna work.
I ran the utility for those 'stuck on serial/usb', and that fixed it. Now I would like to load up WM6, but it keeps getting communication failures.
Thanks for the help guys....I got it working...running on WM6 now...whoo!!
I just post this thread in order to help others which are having the same problem as I am and to avoid looking arround on all the posts for this answer.
I'm so happy that I've not yet test this procedure wanted to share with you ASAP.
Thanks pvdhelm

Follow these instructions and your vista problem is over.
I used this guide and it works for my artemis p3300 phone!
Please try downloading the latest WMDC first before attempting anything in this section of the guides. you will find the latest version HERE .
To follow this guide please make sure you have a copy of WinRAR installed, I will refer to the Windows Mobile Device Centre as the WMDC for ease of reading. If you do not have the WMDC installed please go here to install it first.
One problem with windows VISTA is that it uses the new "Windows Mobile Device Centre" and not activesync which we are used to, thus our standard RUU programs will not upgrade our Hermes devices as in windows XP. This guide will show you how to configure VISTA to work just the same as XP with our RUU programs.
For this guide firstly you need to download the new drivers:
Drivers for Windows Vista x32
Drivers for Windows Vista x64
Please note the x64 drivers are unsigned so to use them successfully you must disable driver signing.
Extract the contents to a folder on your desktop, call this folder "AS_DRIVERS". It contains the drivers from activesync which we will use instead of the native VISTA WMDC drivers when the device is in bootloader.
Now you must enter the bootloader on your device, to do this press and hold both the side ok button and the power button then put your stylus into the hole on the bottom of the device, your device will reset and show the red blue green bootloader screen. LEAVE THE DEVICE IN BOOTLOADER MODE and connect it using the USB cable to your VISTA PC.
Now navigate into the WMDC (Start>All Programs>Windows Mobile Device Center) and click on the "connection settings" menu icon
In the connection settings menu untick "allow USB connections" then press OK.
Now exit the WMDC and return to the desktop, go into the start menu and type "Services", this will take you into the local services dialogue and show a list of all services either running or registered with your pc.
Scroll down the list and make sure these services are present:
Windows Mobile-based connectivity
Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity
If these services are not started then double click each one and set them to Automatic start by clicking the "startup-type" drop-down menu and selecting automatic then click the start button in the same window, apply the setting by pressing OK. Now return back to the desktop again.
Go into the start menu and type "Device Manager" then run, this will take you into the device manager. Click the "+" symbol next to "Mobile Devices" and double click on "HTC USB Sync".
This will bring up the properties of the currently connected device (the hermes in bootloader).
Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Update Driver".
Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".
Select "Let me pick from a list...."
Click the "Have Disk" button.
Click "Browse" and navigate to the AS_DRIVERS folder we created earlier.
Vista x32 users select the file "wceusbsh.inf"
Vista x64 users select the file "wceusbshx64.inf"
Then click Open.
click next and the driver will be installed (wait a moment).
Press close and escape back to the desktop now.
Now we must stop the WMDC process, start the task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Escape.
click the WMDC line and click "End Process". In the confirmation window, again press End Process.
Now re-enter the WMDC and re-enable USB connections (click connection settings and tick the box "enable USB connections").
Your RUU programs for HardSPL/Radios/WM6 ROMs should now run as desired once you are synced with WMDC. Since we have updated the driver which vista uses when the device is in bootloader mode.
NOTE:: This technique is still in testing so if you have any issues please post in the official thread. Until we find another way to get RUU working with vista you may need to revert back to XP for upgrading your Artemis.

Just test it without any problem. I confirm the feasability of this procedure.
It rocks!
Always restart after before trying. It has worked with me.
Ha, Well I have tested and all works well, after this I've flashed USPL and B&B 3.7 ROM with no difficulty.
Now if I could only figure out why Mobile device Center will not install properly on my Vista Ultimate that I just 'upgraded' to today. It connected once, ran the sync but did not back up the contacts on my phone to outlook, and now on subsequent tries, the program wont open because of 'unknown problems'.
Maybe it's a sign to roll back to XP.
uninstall wmdc and then re-install. I had this error at first but fixed now.

I had a feeling, I did that procedure once already with redundant results....but then again, half of my peripherals such as DVD-ROM, or wireless card didn't work, but then miraculously started working just as I was about to teach my laptop how to fly.

Agreed. Some 'versions' of windows Vista have WMDC built in, it is no good, uninstall WMDC and download the version from MS web site. Once installed run Windows Update.

I had this issue too, uninstall vista drivers first, then install those from XP.
I followed these directions to update my Himalaya/Alpine-like i-mate PDA2 with disappointing results -- at first. WMDC claimed there was an error and I could not get it to respond. I flounced away and pouted for a little bit, and when I came back decided the only thing I could think of to change now before re-installing WMDC altogether was to roll back the driver for the mobile devices (in device manager) and WA-LA! Pouting works! I am now able to sync and Klaus (the i-mate) plays nice with Bob (PC)... ah, household bliss!
Thanks!
i still cannot get my laptop to see the artemis when it is bootloader mode - i have the XP driver on!!!!
I would love to try it, but does anybody have a german manual, or a translation program that translates Windows English into Windows German?
I have a TyTN with official Russian WM6 onto it, which includes 1.16 radio version. I want a newer one, because this seems unstable, so i decided to update just radio (i don't want any cooked ROM or whatever for now).
Each new version of radio I found here failed earlier or later on a Vista x64 computer with error 260. What I have tried is 1.54.07.00 and 1.54.00.10 and 1.50.
To my surprise, packaging is different, but the effect is the same: after "Verifying the image on your device" (i can hear USB disconnecting and connecting back as the device enters bootloader) they time out with 260.
Right now I'm trying to revert what have I done to Vista as it won't allow me to turn off driver signing, as advised.
Ah, this doesn't work either (same error 260).
What am I doing wrong? My bootloader is, as said on that screen:
Code:
HERM200
IPL-1.01
HERM200
SPL-1.40.Olipro
Yes, I have installed some...er...thing before, maybe it was called "HardSPL", but it didn't come handy and wasn't any use to me as I decided against cooking a ROM.
Update: What I like the most is, despite all my attempts the device still works! Other than the radio troubles, that is.
I've updated from an SD card.
Try this my friend... http://www.mrvanx.org
Thank you, I did.

This is what I'm unable to do, but I suppose is beyond this forum.
Hi
I have had the same problem with my x64 vista pc and the 260 error msg. It took me hours but what seemed to finally fix it for me was to:
1. completely remove WMDC from the pc, reboot the pc,
2. reinstall WMDC plus upgrade,
3. uncheck the allow USB connections option on your 8525, exit out of the window, then do a soft reset
4. now make a USB connection w the PC
Let us know how it works
Sorry, you'll have to wait till my next upgrade Everything is working so far - so until I need something that can't be achieved using SD flashing I'll stick to this technique. Thanks for the advice anyway.
Everyone's having problems lately with the new Roms and sync w/ Vista. I've used this on my last 5 Roms and it has worked every time.for WMDC (vista activesync) to work go into the device ID and name the phone "Pocket_PC" exactly how I typed it........no qoutes. ....oh and BTW make sure your Schaps Config also names the Device Pocket_PC
Let me know if it works for you
UPDATE!!!
ADDED: remove the advanced config program from your phone that works also!!
Any luck anyone?

This is weird because i have been having this issue lately too. Also my father with the same phone and different computer is having the same issue.
Seems to happen when im switching roms. FYI iv tested many Minella2d roms.
questions from a noob
I just got this phone, and my only other ventures into ROM changing was a Motorola ROKR E6 seems similar but I am trying to figure all of this out without a users manual, software disc, just by reading and trying to download.
My questions are how do I change the name of my phone. When I power on it says that it is pocketpc I already went to microsoft and downloaded the info for viista wdmc but I don't think that the computer recognizes the phone other than the auto play feature.
THanks
Tried your fix and, I am afraid, it didn't work for me. My Hermes still fails to sync after the intial setup.

if your phone is connected your good to go another way you can go to activesync is in Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Sync Ceter
I am not sure if I should post here or under Schaps' rom thread. I have Schaps 4.31 rom. For 4 days now my 8525 stopped syncing with the computer, but in the same time my contacts and my events/calendar on the phone disappeared. I reinstalled the rom again, I reinstalled the Windows Mobile 6.1, with no effetcs. When the computer odes the first sync and set-up it says that I don't have the outlook installed. I have it on the computer, and on the PDA I have the office. So I am kind of stucked. I tried the Pocket_PC ideea, but the only thing now is that the Windows Mobile Center stops working in the middle of syncing, and ... no results.
Thanks for help

VERY frustrating
Vista and sync issues
I have two 8525 phones - under Vista, one would sync, one would not. I kept getting the RNDIS error and unrecognized device. I connected the one that was good, and went to the device manager to get details about the drivers used.
I connected to one that did not connect, and got to the point where I could specify the driver location, pointing it to C:\Windows\WindowsMobile worked for me.
On July 2, Samsung released WM 6.5 for the Epix / i907. It is available here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/at-t-phones/SGH-I907ZKAATT/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support
Q: How do you get the Samsung official WM 6.5 upgrade for the Epix / i907 to work on Windows 7 64bit?
The trick is to get the drivers installed and then the Vista 32-bit installer works fine. You can get the drivers from:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/200708/20070813082717640_Samsung_USB_Driver_Installer.exe.
Run this install program. It will put the drivers in Program Files (x86)/Samsung but installation won't work. Next open the device manager and then update the driver for each of the non-working devices... Select the Program Files (x86)/Samsung directory. Windows 7 will successfully find and install the drivers.
Note that you will also need to set the USB connection mode to "Modem". This is located in Settings / Connections / USB Connection Mode.
Q: Does HTC CM Internet WiFi Sharing work on the official Epix WM 6.5 release?
Yes. But to get it to work I also needed to install and RUN the Topaz CommManager. Start CommManager running and then start CM Internet Sharing. See this thread for details.
http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-http-omnia-modaco-com/290496/cm-wifi-internet-sharing/.
Note that the Topaz CommManager works but is not as clean as the default Wireless Manager. Also I installed the Application Unlocker from:
http://www.mysamsungepix.com/hacks-and-mods/application-unlockers/samsung-epix-application-unlocker/
But not sure this was necessary.
Q: How do you get rid of the Startup and Shutdown animations and noise.
The following works on the official update.
http://www.mysamsungepix.com/hacks-and-mods/other-hacks-and-mods/silent-startup-and-shutdown/
Q: Does this patch update the radio? Does this patch fix the ID1 GPS issue? How can I tell if the update was successful?
The patch updates the phone, radio, and fixes GPS issues with ID1.
To confirm a successful update type *#1234# into the phone. According to the Samsung FAQ both the PDA and Phone field should be 'pi907UCJD1'.
Some people are reporting an occasional hang during the update process and consequently the radio is not updating. Try it again.
Q: How is battery life?
So far battery life has proven to be as good if not better than the original rom.
Q: Is GPS working?
GPS works without issue with the latest versions of both Bing and Google maps.
Bing turn-by-turn voice-announced navigation is working great.
The latest versions of Google and Bing maps are available in the Marketplace.
Q: How can I configure the Today screen?
One easy way to do this is with the free "Home Screen Customizer" available in the marketplace. Works great.
Q: Can I reorganize the Start Menu?
You can use file explorer to navigate to \Windows\Start Menu. Then cut and paste. It looks like the shortcuts are no longer locked in ROM.
Seems to Work
Several people have asked how well the official Samsung WM 6.5 upgrade / patch is working...
My experience is very positive; no issues so far.
And it seems fast.

I'm writing this response as I had a whole hell of a lotta trouble getting this to flash properly and ended up having to figure out some stuff for myself and here are my steps:
Assumptions = I am using Win 7 64bit, w/ windows mobile device center in normal setup, My windows is genuine which may be required to get the driver from Windows Update
1 = make sure phone is off with battery removed. I'd have the usb cable in so you can get it going as quick as possible.
2 = download and run an application called USDL Grand Prix (the vista version works on win7). You'll have 2 find the dl yourself unfortunately, but googling 'usdl grand prix vista' is your best bet.
3 = under select a profile, choose: Grand Prix LV Image
4 = hit the pda button &browse to the 'bin' format image you downloaded at the start of the thread
5 = review step 7 so you can be ready to do it in a timely manner!
6 = under 'grand prix's step 3, select detect
7 = place the battery back in the samsung and hold the vol up key, the ok key, and hte power key and wait for grand prix to start doing its thing and a green status bar to begin growing freakishly at the bottom of the 'samsung' screen.
8 = once the 'grand prix' says 'pda finished!!' in the status area, you are ready to remove and replace your battery then power on as normal!
YAY, how easy is that?

or this
Download the following files:
* Windows Mobile 6.5 build 23017 15MB page pool BIN (Mirror 1)
o Check the first post of this thread for newer BIN versions
o Microsoft contacted me and told me to take PDA6.5_15mbPP.bin of mysamsungepix.com
* USDL GrandPrix v1.6.4 (Windows XP/Vista/Win 7) (Mirror 1) (Mirror 2, XP) (Mirror 2, Vista)
1. Verify that your Samsung Epix can connect to your Windows computer via USB. You should be able to browse your Samsung Epix in My Computer > Mobile Device and/or make a successful connection via ActiveSync. If you cannot do this, the GrandPrix program most likely will not see your Epix.
2. Turn off your Samsung Epix, but it connected to your Windows computer via USB.
3. Start USDL GrandPrix (Windows 7 users run the Vista version)
4. Under “Select a profile” choose “GRANDPRIX LV image”
5. Click the “PDA” button and locate the Windows Mobile 6.5 BIN file.
6. Press the Detect button in USDL GrandPrix
7. Power on your Samsung Epix
8. Wait for the process to full complete (mine idled at “Writing Dummy CSC Header” so I moved to the next step and everything was fine).
9. Power off your Samsung Epix (may require a battery pull if your CSC Headers hang).
10. Power on your Samsung Epix.
11. The first “boot” of your Samsung Epix may take a while (up to 5 minutes) so don’t panic if your phone seems unresponsive at the orange Windows Mobile screen – be patient.
12. Complete the Windows Mobile 6.5 setup wizard and voila – Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Samsung Epix.
which is from this page where the author also has a youtube video you can watch:

I'm having trouble having Grand Prix or the offical updater recognize my phone. I'm using Windows 7 home premium 64bit. Anyone have a solution? Grand Prix responds but then my phone "disconnects" and nothing ends up happening.
NEVERMIND. Finally ended up getting it to work. Not sure how but after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers many times it decided to finally flash.
5 column Start menu 320x320
i searched the other cooked wm6.5 threads and couldn't find any 5 column Start screen menus, so I uncabbed and modified the isangelous StartMenu cabs (link) for 320x320. I made 3 sets, the (5x4) looks best with EpixVGA:
Requirement:
1. These look best with EpixVGA or RealVGA installed, i prefer EpixVGA.
2. Remember, installing EpixVGA on WM6.5 will disable Internet Explorer 6. (but who needs PIE6 when there's Opera and Skyfire?) If you ever need PIE6 again, just uninstall EpixVGA and it'll work again.
Since the stock StartMenu file is in the rom, you cannot simply copy it to \Windows\ folder to make it stick, here's a simple instruction:
Instructions:
1. Unzip, Use Total Commander to Copy the StartMenu(5x4)_GridScene_320x320.cpr into your Epix's \windows\ folder.
2. Sort the Windows folder by filename, find the stock StartMenu_GridScene_320x320.cpr, and rename it by adding a few characters into the filename, for example StartMenuSTOCK_GridScene_320x320.cpr
3. Find the (5x4) file you just copied, and erase the "(5x4)" from the filename.
4. That's it. Confirm by simply Refreshing the screen, and you'll see the StartMenu_GridScene_320x320.cpr will have the new file date.
5. Soft reset.
these .cpr files are just .txt files, and you can open it and play with the values. If you're not using EpixVGA, just decrease the text size by 2 and the (5x4) will still look good. Request: can somebody re-CAB these 3 files again? or remind me which program/settings to use for the cab?
Thanks a lot for it, Atlaswing, great work!
Here are my screenshots of (6x4) and (5x4) configurations along with RealVGA (96dpi pack for build 28008) on fenrir's WM6.5.x 23668 with Robert Batman Blue skin.
EDIT: and btw... what exactly is EpixVGA? I've never heard of that. What are the differences between EpixVGA and RealVGA? trying to google something but with not much luck.

Its the same thing. Either one just changes the phone to 96dpi.
how come EpixVGA breaks PIE6 and RealVGA doesn't?
According to what I've found so far EpixVGA uses older 96dpi resource files which are not compatible with latest pocket IE.
When you switch from default to another theme and after switch to any of AT&T theme back, you getting wm 6.1 interface?
No option for sms delivery in sms application for default?
Is this joke or samsungs is so poor to complete update...
i907 wont power on
I initiated the update of the 6.5 patch... when it started the download of the eboot... the application crashed after probably 3-5 second that it started.
My phone was stuck on a black samsung screen. it wouldn't respond. I remove the battery and now the phone will not power on.
Remove battery and hold power button > no go
Use ac adapter > nothing
tried a hard reset (hold H key and power button) > same thing
It's a freaking brick... I'm so frustrated.. Samsung said to send it in but Im in Costa rica not US.
Anything else I can try ???
Does anyone knows how to turn off/on delivery report from options in new Epix sms/mms client?

isn't this all in the start menu/settings/sounds and notifications/event ?
or am i misunderstanding you?
you can select an event (ie Message: New Text Message) and decide if you want:
-play sound
-what sound to play
-repeat sound
-display message on screen
-flash light for...
-vibrate
i don't know if any of these options fall in the category of "delivery report" but this is what i thought of. hope its helpful.
