Thanks for the link. Appreciate it.
Thank you, very informative...
i would like to add more information to it with components identification and more details about disassembling and assembling. but for this i need to remove binding around the chips, which is not something i am ready to do at the moment.
on a reality it is very quick to disassemble this device. takes about 10 min. to take it apart. construction looks better thought-out compared to Prophet for example.
no wifi
I opened mda Compact III arte110 and there is no wifi antenna.

You right.
And chip is also missing on the board.
The bad thing is that some people when they were buying this device did not know about the fact that Wi-Fi functionality is missing, and sellers were not much informed, as well. Bad trick..
regards,
anyone care to give me some tip on how to get the catches on page 8,9,10 to let go of the case?
I really can't seem to get it loose.
In the PDF this step is described as hard, but there is no indication how the author did it.
I have ordered myself some tools for caseopening.. so I'm hoping the whole prosess is easier then.
If anyone have opened this case, perhaps can sheld some light on how they did this step.
okey. seems a bent tweezer works ok.
horizontal in, behind the hooks, then pull

u have checked that the chip is also missing, and seen it with ur own eyes or are you just stating other information...cuz if only the antenna is missing, one could think of a solution...
I needed to replace my screen recently and found the Artemis-inside pdf to be only useful up to a point. Wrote my own guide in case people might find it useful:

Very interesting docs. Thank you both!

Every product as versatile as the MDA Pro, deserves it's own comunity. As it's a ground-breaking device and sports a brand new operating system, there are likely to be numerous teething problems.
There are few good sources of information available for the mda pro at present, the best of which being this one. Despite containing everything you could need to know, I found it very difficult for a novice to find info quickly.
Whilst waiting for my phone to arrive, I bought the website www.mdapro.uk , I've set up a forum there, for beginners like my self, to get the full potential out of there phone / mini laptop / PDA ....
I've produced this site as I'm the proud owner of a new MDA Pro and I'm sure I can use it for more than browsing the net on the Loo. There's an obvious need for a site dedicated to the MDA Pro and I hope www.mdapro.co.uk will be helpfull to a lot of people.
www.mdapro.co.uk is for anyone who owns or is thinking of purchasing an I-mate Jasjar / MDA Pro / XDA Exec / HTC Universal or any of it's other guises.
Please join my forum and help to build a community. There's power in numbers and together we can overcome any problems each of us may have. Together we can make the proposition of upgrading to a PDA as simple and pain-free as possible.
Thanks

Tip - get some proper hosting (add-free stuff), and sort the formatting on teh front page out :/ - one slim column of text on the left with adds on teh right and nothing in teh middle.
Its a good idea though, and could probably have been integrated here somehow, providing the admins have the time and inclination to do it.
Thanks for tips!
The big blank bit in the middle is gonna contain a general phone overview, (When I get chance to write it). I've only really been concentrating on getting the forum up and running, which I think is all set up correctly now.
My hosting company seem pretty efficient so far. They were chosen on cost alone. If I get enough members to quantify upgrading, I will search for better hosting. While there's only a handfull of members, my £20 per year hosting should do just fine. At least for now.
If there's anything anyone would like including on the site, I'm more than happy to listen. Likewise to any advice or criticism.
I think making sure you and XDA Devs don't cross the same ground is important, so making sure somehow your site is providing a specific and different service.
Also, I would put a big obvious link back to XDA Devs as a courtesy.
Best of luck.
Joe
Thanks Joe,
I dont want to step on anyones toes, here. I intend my site to be specific to one phone, aimed at begginers and prospective upgraders.
Xda developers is a fantastic source of info for all levels. Its only downfall is that it is difficult for beginners, such as myself, to navigate. I want my site to fill the gap for beginners. I only really want to to include tried and tested methods on my site, rather than experimental material. I will link to xda developers for more advanced users and further reading.
I'm more than happy to include links to this site anywhere it may be relevant.
Sank5!
Just registered on your forum...
Hope it will be a success... at least I am there for you
hee i am one off the newest member i hope to learn a lot overthere.
This is my first pda ,mda so i wil putt my newbie questions there thanks anyway 8)
Thanks for your support
Thanks to everyone who's joined my forum. The sites almost completely functional now, if lacking a bit in content. We currently have a massive 20 users!
Now you've all had your MDA Pro's for a while, I'd appreciate it if you shared your experiences with us. I've been too busy with work and the site to have a good play with my phone, but I intend that to change very soon any hints / advice would be more than welcome.
Does anyone know how to capture a screen shot on the MDA Pro or run a macromedia flash movie as I am getting desperate for both.
Thanks

For Flash, not really sure, but check out a thread on benchmarking the Uni. You can cross reference by searching by my username and vjsihaya.

I just tried to access it now but "Cannot find server" came out.

It's ok now, seems one ofr the links above says www.msdapro.uk when clicked
@sank5
I use Resco PhotoViewer on my device. It comes with a Screen Capture "add on" which works perfect for me.
Some "always on top" window will be opened in the middle including the button to make the shot (which can be delayed by 10 seconds if You like).
You can browse through all programs to prepare the screen as You need it before taking the shot, nicely working for me.

What exact tool is needed to unscrew the 6 screws on the back of the dash? I have a 20 piece kit, and none seem to fit. TIA.
Torx T6
I used a Torx T6 on mine.
oqureshi or stmatte, could you post instructions on how to disassemble the dash if you were successful at doing it? Possibly with pictures?
Thanks in advance
Post pictures!
...or a video tutorial could work
Still no word on this? SOMEONE must have taken apart their beloved dash/excalibur/cosmo by now!
I've started a new thread with an appropriate heading for this issue. If anyone has ideas, you can post to that one.

I have an idea.....how you take apart your dash and let us a know how it goes. Please post pictures a video and all the relevent material. Since you seem to want it so bad. What could be the worse that happens.....you actually learn something on your own.

Hi all,
Well, I have finally finished my website for PDA parts / accessories.
http://www.phoneystore.com
I am adding new products every day (I have more than 2000 products and so far I've only added 500), so please check back regularly for the latest additions.
If you can't find a part you need, PM me or send an enquiry from the site, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
I would also appreciate your comments / feedback about the site, so that I can make it easier to use.

Guess I was too busy adding products to put where we are based (as you can see, the "about us" section is pretty small). Will make a note to update that tomorrow (it's already 11:30pm here).
I would like to have guides for replacing the parts of the phone, but I don't have access to all of the models we sell parts for. If customers that receive a part would like to make guides (take a few photos and write some notes while you are doing the replacement), I would be happy to mention the author in the guide, and would even be willing to send some free or discounted products to you for your trouble.
Thanks for adding the URL to your sig ... that's awesome. Maybe I should start up a referral program

why there is no xda-developers market place ?
Yeah, Where are the JimmyMcGee and DaveShaw bobble head dolls ?
If you want to buy sell your devices, then there has been a very humble beginning. Check my Signature for that. I am not sure if you are talking about anything else. Good luck.

EBay is a Market Place, xda-developers is a developers forum. If you are selling your device, please put a link in your signature to the ebay (or whatever site) page you are selling your device on.

That thread is bad and someone is going to get robbed and blame it on the world, starting within that thread
@redbandana
Mate anybody can get robbed at any place if the seller/robber for that matter is having this intention. If you think Ebay is secure I would suggest you to look at the facts.
As Dave has mentioned that this is a developers forum & not any market place.
That thread is just an humble beginning to consolidate the single issue of buying & selling devices.
It was not meant to make anything like market place.
Let me share one more thing with you. I being a volunteer in many of Climate change initiatives felt like sharing our devices which could help us mitigate the carbon emmission. You know how much it takes to make a single device. So you can understand if we could save some carbon emissions by sharing our devices.
Hope you would appreciate it.
Making a thread in itself emits carbon[atleast more than making a post & then avoid searching for something here & there].
Best Regards
Saksham Katyal

I appreciate your thoughts on carbon emission*. I guess I have seen so much bad in this world that it takes a thoughtful person like yourself, to demonstrate that good people still exist.

Cheers,
I am glad you people support it too.
orb3000, bro thanks for your concern as well.
hey hey hey. calm down guys. i know ebay dealextreme made-in-china etc. is market place. But how can i ask them what i need ? By the way in xda-developers has lots of professional users and technicans. So that they know what i need better than an ebay seller. this was just an idea for this situation.
Dont argue for an idea. i repeat that was just an idea...

OKAY, HERE IS THE HELPFUL LINK ON OUR HERMES
http://www.mikechannon.net/page1.html
the only thing you might need is the microphone. but where to get it in your country i don't know. you can try the microphone of some old broken phone (this one you can get from your friends in some dervice center).
you can try pdacenter.ru or ebay.com
hope this can help you someway.
Go to Mike's Channon page, download service manual and dismantle your hermes.
Getting to the mic is really easy, you will end the proccess in the few first steps, the most problematic ones won't be neccessary
Don't be afraid, it's not so hard. Just make sure you have a good soldering tool, and remember not to overheating the board.
Good luck!
Have a look in Hermes Service manual. You should find everything you need.

Just use this service manual to dismantle your mainboard from the rest (no need for further dismantling). The mic is located at the bottom of the board, covered with a small piece of gum - just replace it... I doubt you can find an exact instruction of how to do it - just unsolder the old one and solder the new one
