Unscrew DASH/S620 - HTC Excalibur

What exact tool is needed to unscrew the 6 screws on the back of the dash? I have a 20 piece kit, and none seem to fit. TIA.

Torx T6
I used a Torx T6 on mine.

oqureshi or stmatte, could you post instructions on how to disassemble the dash if you were successful at doing it? Possibly with pictures?
Thanks in advance

Post pictures!
...or a video tutorial could work

Still no word on this? SOMEONE must have taken apart their beloved dash/excalibur/cosmo by now!

I've started a new thread with an appropriate heading for this issue. If anyone has ideas, you can post to that one.

I have an idea.....how you take apart your dash and let us a know how it goes. Please post pictures a video and all the relevent material. Since you seem to want it so bad. What could be the worse that happens.....you actually learn something on your own.

No way... I'd much rather someone with a bricked Dash or someone with $400 to throw away do it before me.

Thanks for the link. Appreciate it.
Thank you, very informative...
i would like to add more information to it with components identification and more details about disassembling and assembling. but for this i need to remove binding around the chips, which is not something i am ready to do at the moment.
on a reality it is very quick to disassemble this device. takes about 10 min. to take it apart. construction looks better thought-out compared to Prophet for example.

You right.
And chip is also missing on the board.
The bad thing is that some people when they were buying this device did not know about the fact that Wi-Fi functionality is missing, and sellers were not much informed, as well. Bad trick..
regards,
anyone care to give me some tip on how to get the catches on page 8,9,10 to let go of the case?
I really can't seem to get it loose.
In the PDF this step is described as hard, but there is no indication how the author did it.
I have ordered myself some tools for caseopening.. so I'm hoping the whole prosess is easier then.
If anyone have opened this case, perhaps can sheld some light on how they did this step.
okey. seems a bent tweezer works ok.

u have checked that the chip is also missing, and seen it with ur own eyes or are you just stating other information...cuz if only the antenna is missing, one could think of a solution...
I needed to replace my screen recently and found the Artemis-inside pdf to be only useful up to a point. Wrote my own guide in case people might find it useful:

Black 2.0 Cingular - Keyboard

I just flashed Black 2.0 Cingular to my 8525 and it seems my the ?mark on my keyboard produces a dash.
Didnt see anything about it on the board or in the wiki, anyone else have this or know how to fix it...
BTW thanks for Black 2.0
Dave
This cab has been posted all over, there is a known issue with the 8525 keyboard with the newer ROM's, I have included the cab for you.
Keep this cab handy in case you flash in the future and need again.
Hope this helps.
I'm just gonna duck for you.
http://rapidshare.com/files/21995373/8525_Keyboard_Fix_WMXL.CAB
These cabs or the registry fix are posted everywhere on this forum and I am still amaze on how many people failed to look for them.
Edit: Between the time I posted originally to now I did a search for "8525 keyboard" then read the first couple of threads, got interrupted a few times, and came up with this http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=XDA_Live_Extras
Now I understand how the flaming begins....
I agree, kinda funny, seems to be the same requests all the time. I guess I am kinda lucky, I have some extra time throughout my day to read. That and I don't want to damage my investment.

I know you have just joined and you are new to all this, but hey............come on, just look through threads, search and read a bit, you could have got ripped to shreds but tonight I am in a good mood!
EDIT: Can a mod lock this thread to save a poor souls life!
Hey, you folks don't know where a guy can grab some magic fairy dust which will make my 8525's keyboard magically delicious, do you?
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, though. I have, from time to time, been put out by the old-timers here going off on the newbies for asking questions the answers to which can be, relatively, easily found. However, this damn keyboard cab issue keeps popping up on a daily basis and I refuse to believe any one of these guys ever search for the info.
Mind you, I'm not completely guilt-free. I MAY HAVE popped in a question or two in an active forum when everyone was patting each other on the nuts and happy with a new ROM release. But, I did look, damnit. And, by the way, old-timers, none of you have answered my question about how to make the thumbnail pic bigger on the dialer. NONE of ya! Yet, you all jump to answer that damn keyboard cab question!

Hi, there is not an answer to that one as far as I know, I can't see how a reg edit would work as I think the dialer is made all in one and then loaded into the rom (don't quote me!).
The only thing I can suggest is a magnifying glass!
Seriously though PM swampy he might be able to help.

How to Install Windows Mobile 6.1: The Guide

I made this little walk through so that maybe we can get rid of some of the common questions that get asked way too much. This guide will walk you through the process of app unlocking your phone, upgrading the rom, setting up the keyboard and setting up your connections. Beyond that, you are on your own. Please let me know if you have any issues.
Click below for the pdf:
Windows Mobile 6.1 - The Step By Step Guide
Fine Print: This guide was written using Rickwyatt's v.24 ROM. For Kavana's install, just click on the ROM file and follow from there.
I know this method to work. I took all the screen shots as I was flashing my phone. I never once got any errors.
as usual...any questions, PM Mikey.
(mods: 1.8mb is too large to attach???)
good work gixxy! i will sticky this..... i will also see if we can put this on the FTP here.
Great job gixxum this will be a great guide for the noobs.
Very clean procedures.
I used these to set up my phone and it was very nice.
Thank you.
this is what i've been looking for, a walkthrough. Thanks a bunch. You're the man!
Great work! keep it up brahh
Pretty nice guide Gixxum... I wish this was around when I did mine! (I went through 2,000 something pages before I decide I was dangerous enough to flash my phone)... This will come in handy when I eventually flash my phone to version 24 of ricky's rom. Keep up the good work!
i made the guide because this process is so easy...but if you are new to it, and do anything out of order, you end back here asking the same questions and getting flat out frustrated.. im hoping that this takes away that issue.
i figured by actually flashing my phone and documenting the whole process, that this is the most accurate way to do it. anyways...good luck guys/gals
Great Job Gixxum!
Great Job - I knew you had a soft side and not all tough as you come across at times!! I believe I have finally gotten my phone working! Now, I hope I get my nerve to add and change some settings. AND yes - I am going to read all the postings before I ask...
Out of curiosity - when my phone boots up and shuts down it has HTC and no mention of S620. Not a big deal, I don't care what it says as long as it works but I saw somewhere on a post that theirs says HTC S620. Just wondering...
I am not subscribed to any internet plan, just rely on wi-fi so I will try to make this work and be happy as a fiddle as us Southerners say!!!!!!!! plus can't say what I'd like to say here.........

Other than the keyboard thing is there anyother things that need tweeking like bluetooth or voice ? One more question could I go back and relash with say the rogers version of the rom if something went wrong with this one/ Thanks

you will select whatever carrier you use..in your case you would select att/cingular (whatever they are now).
nothing really needs tweeking...meaning everything should work.
yes you can reflash with an OEM rom and you can find those files in one of the sticky's on this forum

yea i tried all i could and i couldnt get it to post in a good format. plus, the site wont let me link to more than 4 pics per post. i would have left it as a web page on my site, but i dont know how much traffic would be generated. so my last resort was to just make a pdf and host it on my box and hope for not too much traffic. so far so good.
you guys can take this and do what you want with it. just made it to offset my ability to be the biggest prick ever.. i figured i owed the community something. =P

lol you definitely owed the community after being a prick but turns out your actually a nice guy....
good job, though - i remember when i wrote the guide to upgrade from 5 to 6 and most people found that really helpful. see, when you have a guide, it just makes life so much easier than going around hunting for information.
having everything in one place makes it easier not only for noobs but experts too.
I'm working on getting everything on here. Hopefully, everything should work out.
Once again, Great Job ! Thanks for supporting this community.
P.S: by tommorow, I will be deleting posts in this thread including mine that does not have anything to do with the post.
No more thank you posts, only questions. Do you agree? Yes, I would love for everyone to say thanks to you but this way, we can keep it clean. I hope you know where I'm coming from. When I wrote the guide, even though - yes people did ask questions, which was fine but it just kept growing because most users would simply say thanks.
Oh yea, can you do me a favor? If you have all the images in one place..can you send me a folder...maybe a rapidshare link or something because I'm having a hard time getting the images off your pdf file, not really hard - just taking too long.

OKAY, HERE IS THE HELPFUL LINK ON OUR HERMES
http://www.mikechannon.net/page1.html
the only thing you might need is the microphone. but where to get it in your country i don't know. you can try the microphone of some old broken phone (this one you can get from your friends in some dervice center).
you can try pdacenter.ru or ebay.com
hope this can help you someway.
Go to Mike's Channon page, download service manual and dismantle your hermes.
Getting to the mic is really easy, you will end the proccess in the few first steps, the most problematic ones won't be neccessary
Don't be afraid, it's not so hard. Just make sure you have a good soldering tool, and remember not to overheating the board.
Good luck!
Have a look in Hermes Service manual. You should find everything you need.

there you can find not only servicee manuals, but video on dissaaamling device.

I just don't want BAD confusion , or something to do with motherboard!!!
please help, have another way to change my microphone manually by me
Just use this service manual to dismantle your mainboard from the rest (no need for further dismantling). The mic is located at the bottom of the board, covered with a small piece of gum - just replace it... I doubt you can find an exact instruction of how to do it - just unsolder the old one and solder the new one

Read - Why you get short/one word answers! (The Long Answer)
Been through all that stuff already...
As I have said before... why go to all the bother of posting the same stuff again and again?
I have spent the last 3 weeks looking around from site to site picking up bits here and there then eventually back to where I have started... albeit a little bit wiser...
I'm obviously missing something here...
Replying with this is as bad as spam.!... I have seen it on umpteen posts, over and over again, like a broken record.
If I had spent more time on the zx spectrum and the bbc which we had in 5th year before i left school I would not need to come on to this site..ha ha. but as we were not as lucky as you lot help is something that is greatly appreciated!
Rather than gloating how good I was, I would be coming on here to help rather than to belittle... otherwise what is the point of being a senior member with all this knowledge.
But this is something that comes with age... As we get older we realise....
Some day you will look back at yourself and think to yourself.
You will remember this post or some other that someone will surely post when frustrated with replys like this.
Read why you get short answers, because your lengthy reply clearly shows you haven't, and give the video another watch too, then you might understand why your thread about an existing thread is highly annoying.

As you can clearly see I've had quite a few.
Now you see how short a life you have had, when you have to use other peoples words...
And as for grasping things...The point...
Follow a simple thing and get so far and thats it..
Point.. We are here to learn, not just to have a phone... better than everyone else!!!
I, believe it or not am trying to learn but that is why we ask questions, albeit, stupid ones to you lot in the know!
Even the best of us will have to eventually ask a stupid question... It comes to us all... you will remember this!
You are so much in the know, then answer the question that I started with...
As most of the people that get through this initial test seem to be more helpful..
Maybe one day I will be able to help someone new as there will always be
And be a bit more constructive.
Try putting the same energy in to re reading the guide as you do with these argumentative posts and you might get somewhere.

Looking at these posts I can see and have learnt quite a lot actually...
It dosent take a lot to work out that if one neewbe gives you 10 thanks, as I have, for thinking and being polite that somebody actually replied,
do a bit of multiplication and you soon realise... 900 thanks doesnt actually say a lot....
especially if what you are sending people work done by somebody else....
I, after 3 weeks could go from page to page looking for newbees and feed them this stuff... the same stuff over and over again.
Since all you are doing is this, can, as I see, you never seem to answer any questions directly.
Which to me implys that you are no better than us newbees really.... unless you can prove otherwise... but I very much doubt.
