Has anyone tinkered with windows vista and using htc mda or dash as a modem, MDA more specifically? The problem that im running into is getting the HTC modem drivers installed on the OS. Any help is much appreciated.
I successfully used MDA as a modem in Vista using BT, NOT USB due to the lack of drivers for USB...
Thats great mind posting steps you took to establish connection?

Hello!
I own a HTC Universal and I just upgraded ROM to the T-Mobile's new one.
The problem is my Universal had a problem on the USB connector (felt down the Universal) and I have to go to assistance for warranty.
The thing is I can't go there with other ROM than Qtek (mine is Qtek 9000).
I can't upgrade ROM with a cable!
So I have a question! Is there a way to upgrade ROM with Bluetooth or putting the ROM's file on SD and execute it from there.????
Best regards,
Deiota
What version of Active Sync have you installed? I had some problems with upgrading the rom to, but when I installed Active Sync 4.2 beta it worked fine.
I guess you missunderstood.
Physically I can't attach the USB from PC to PPC.
I don't have where to put it into!
Hi guys I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum or if this has already been asked elsewhere.
My universal was running great all my apps on wm5 lovely I even just bought copilot for it and that worked great also! I then found the HTC home feature that displays on your today screen I installed this on wm5 and it worked but not very well so I decided to flash my universal with the wm6 rom customized to run on my system with 64mb ram. I think the biggest mistake I made was trying to do this under windows vista as the pc crashed leaving my Universal saying Serial (or USB if connected to pc) and displaying v2.0.1 at bottom. I have tried to recover the device using the methods on the wiki but the device is recognised by the pc as a mobile pocket PC and is refusing to allow me to update the driver so I cannot install the usb modem driver for vista! I am going to my brothers this evening and will try to recover again on an XP system I hope it work I have only had my universal for 4 days! I had aq smilar experience with my SPC C600 when I first got that - I love fidling thats my problem!!! - One last thing to point out is that I do not know it thte device if fully unlocked, I presume as it has gone to the stage of stuck on bootloader it must be?!? Any positive words of encouragement welcome!
Regards
Gene
Anyone! lol I know this was only posted an hour ago - I guess I am stuck in bootlader is that correct?
Hi Guys I have managed to ressurect my universal it was stuck in bootloader! I am going to attepmt to reflash my device with a win moble 6 rom, are there any recommendations for the Universal mine was shipped as the 02 Xda Exec, I appreciate you will probably tell me that I just to try one and see if it works but I would rather use a rom which has been tested as working as stable, I have downloaded the wm6 rom which was "adaptedK for a universal equipped with only 64mb of ram Has anyone used this rom? I also need to totally unlock this device to ensure a happy upgrade, But the link on here for the tool (in the wiki also) seem to be dead I hope one of you can point me in the right direction The main reason I want to upgrade to WM6 is so I can use the HTC home plugin. I know this is available for WM5 but it does not display correctly on my device it appears squashed up?? If I can correct this under WM5 then I see no need to upgrade to WM6?
Many Thanks for your help
Gene.
just use uni_exitbootloader.exe
2klik on your pc just try
I have an unlocked i-mate JASJAM phone (Hermes 100 model) that I decided to use instead of my regular T-Mobile phone (the Dash, another HTC phone).
It worked fine until we decided that it was time to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.0 (from 5.0)… did a quick search, found a downloadable Windows Mobile 6.0 image and went ahead and did it.. without any thought. As a result, we downloaded the Australian telecom Telstra’s WM6.0 image on my device.
The Telstra WM6 image lets me:
1. Turn ON the phone without problems.
2. Sync Outlook using Active Sync via a USB connection
3. Access the internet when using a WiFi connection.
BUT does not recognize the T-Mobile SIM card (the phone still shows as being unlocked).
I have tried flashing a "neutral" image using instructions from this site but it either says that the phone is not connected (it is via the USB) or tells me that it is not the right utility.
What can I do to get a new WM6 flashed on my Hermes 100 and how? T-Mobile will not help me as the Hermes is not their phone.
Thank you for your help!

Why dont you try a different ROM. Where are you located at?

Flash with any WWE ROM like Schap's WM6.0 v4.30, but be sure to upgrade your SPL to 2.10 Olipro and better to upgrade your radio version also.
before upgrading the radio make sure you find out which is "best" in your area.... Upgrading the radio is one of the riskiest thing you can do as it is MAJOR trouble if things go wrong generaly resulting in a brick(pda still works but no phone function)... also there has been some problems associated with radios suddenly not working. if your radio seems to be working fine then leave it alone as the wrong radio can result in BAD reception and fast battery drain. Make sure you do a search b4 upgrading this so you go in with eyes wide open. Cheers

I think you may have learnt a lesson here sir, these devices NEED you to think when you are upgrading them or you will end up one of the many people trying to unbrick their phone.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes, I do feel absolutely stupid!
I am in the Seattle area of the US. Is it important?
have you tried putting the device in bootmode/-screen before connecting to your PC (through USB)?
Or maybe even flash from SD?
Yes, I have followed the process outlined in this forum many times but I either get the message that the device is not connected (as soon as it starts to flash, it is kicked out).
From what I have been able to gather, it is the radio that is blocking the SIM card and any flashing (unless it is from the Australian Telco Telstra whose image I managed to download... why they would allow that is another question!).
Thoughts?

NVM: I got it the guys over at ppcgeeks got me through..flashed and cooked..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, yes, I have just joined but have been following this forum for some time. I went to the htc site upgraded my rom and radio to the newest Sprint rom. Now I want to get the Diamond Dette Rom.
Here's where the problem starts: I connect to activesynce..try to run the vogue unlocker 2.31..goes fine until it says disconnect and reconnect device..by that time my vogue is in bootloader and says USB, but no connection to activesync..so of course I can't continue, and can't establish a connection..
1. tried vogue unlocker 0.41
2. tried to flash when starting in bootloader
3. changed usb ports
4. can boot into WM 6.1
HELP what am I doing wrong..I'm not a newbie to ppc's and I'm stuck..makes me feel newbie-ish

wow fam, hate to say it but it sounds like its a wrap...just bricked my SprinTouch also...in a different way...asurion sent me another one tho...im not gonna risk bricking another one...
not bricked
i dont think you guys bricked your phone. you should try reflashing via micro sd. if you have your phone unlocked( you can check by going into bootloader to see if you do) just put the .nbh file(rom) in the root of your storage card put back into bootloader and youir phone will ask if you want to upgrade the os. also you need to change th rom file from something.nbh to voguimg.nbh. thats real important. i do it useing total commander.
but i think you guys should try that. its the only way i flash now.faster.

You dont need an active sync connection to run rom updates. if you ran the unlocker 2.31 and it gets stuck just do a hard reset and see if it says imcoke on the screen. If so then you succesfully unlocked the phone and can run the custom rom you want. Even if it doesnt connect via active sync. The RUU only finds a usb connection. it doesnt use active sync.
I have flashed phones before, (my TP2 runs android)
Sorry for the extra post, but I know someone has tried this.
I've read the stickies, there is ALOT of outdated info, dead links, etc..
***Whats the easiest upgrade route to get a stock WM6.0 Kaiser on Android?***
WM6.0>OEM HTC WM6.1 ROM>Android
OR
WM6.0>Custom WM6.5 ROM>Android
Which is the easiest/quickest way to get Android?
NAND or run Haret off the SD card?
I don't need a walkthrough just anyone's quick advice. Espicially, any trip-ups I might encounter regarding the radios and SPL versions.
Thanks
Sucessfully bricked the phone trying using Atools!
congratulations for not thoroughly reading the sticky topic about HOW TO COMPLETELY REPLACE WINDOWS MOBILE WITH ANDROID.
It Requires Radio version 1.65 or higher (which is only compatible with WM6.1 or 6.5)
It Requires HARD SPL Version 3.29 or higher (which is compatible with WM6.1 or 6.5) for the case you wanna flash on NAND
So either way, you gotta upgrade to WM6.1, HardSPL, Radio, then Go to ANDROID. Impatience often hurts. Android is blazing fast when installed on NAND (sys + Data)
So tell me,
Your phone is bricked in what sense? flashing using Atools is risky. I suggest go with RUU utility or SD Card. And I suggest you must consider a lil bit of reading first
Atools isn't a flash tool...
Thanks for the help, and I can sense your frustration. I make my living doing IT work. And, I'm not technically a newbie to the flash game. I've owned the PPC6700, Mogul, Touch Pro, and TP2. I've flashed them all. I've even contributed a sticky or two.
I admit I was rushed. And like a small child with a gun, I took a shot without fully understanding Atools.
Yes, I can only blame myself for my Kaiser's demise. To answer your question, the Kaiser is toast. It can't get bootloader and only has a blackscreen and one green light. Atools wins this round. But I'm not too concerened, I'm in a position where I have a nice stock of Kaiser's to fry before I need to peruse The DEFINITIVE MTTY thread.
Dark_prince, please don't blame my impatience entirely for the phone's death. Don't you think some of the blame definitely falls on me not being a bit smarter than 'ye old sticky thread (How to replace Windows Mobile with Android). Following that sticky verbatim will lead a WM6.0 user to HARDSPL first, and then update WM6.1. Ignoring that, the sticky also instructs users to use Atools, which requires it's own sticky.
In the passing year and a half since that sticky was updated, haven't newer versions of Android appeared with newer methods of installation that aren't covered in the sticky? Specifically, it's not clear to me where to find a newer Android installation tutorial that doesn't include Atools.
I'm comfortable that I could complete an Android-Haret setup running off the SD card, but I don't think performance would be acceptable. I want what you and others have

and I'm not above begging for your help to get it.
Now that I've burned one attempt, I need someone's input about how to proceed. Any help is appreciated....
In my usage case, I'm starting with an AT&T 8925 (Tilt) (KAISER100) w/ WM6.0 Professional. Here's where I stand on attempt #2
1. Cleared the storage on the phone.
2. In order to get the correct usb drivers on my Windows 7 PC, I downloaded and installed WMDC 6.1 UPDATE: WMDC 6.1 Does not install ALL the correct drivers, you'll need to force some by reading this thread.
3. A few toggles of "Advanced Network Functionality" later, the phone was Syncing nicely.
4. I then downloaded and flashed the Official HTC AT&T Tilt WM6.1 Upgrade ROM Success.
I now have stock WM6.1 and radio version 1.65.21.18
Next up, I'm trying to decide which HardSPL to use, and which radio will provide me with the best options from the Android Chefs. I don't anticipate any trouble flashing these. But, which combination of HardSPL and radio offer the best base package for an upgrade to Android? I'd love your advice.
Speaking that, after I upgrade the SPL and radio, how the hell do I get Android on my phone if I'm not suppossed to use Atools? Don't I need Atools in order to create a custom .nbh and Android install package for my Kaiser? If not, where can I find these files, especially if I don't know my panel type?
UPDATE: A Little bit closer.
I successfully updated the SPL / Radio(1.70.Olinex) / SIM Unlocked using KaiserUnlocker.exe
Updated the bootloader to 3.56 Hard SPL nostuckinSPL / Force USB via SD card
Updated the radio from 170.0linex to 1.70.19.09 via SD CARD
For any Windows 7 x64 users attempting to Flash their Kaiser, be sure to have a look at [TUT] Dummies guide: updating HTC USB Sync Drivers.
I should have made a bigger mental note when after I installed WMDC 6.1, Windows FAILED to install the correct driver the first time I connected my phone to the PC in bootloader mode. The above thread explains the process of booting Windows 7 in a special mode, in order to force customized drivers to be installed on your machine, the hard way. I followed the steps until about step 12 (my device manager never yellow flagged anything). According to the thread, it looked like it failed, so I resorted to the next best thing. Keep the phone in bootloader and unplug and replug to different usb ports praying that my "forced-on" drivers would finally recognize the damn thing. Success, it finally did and Windows started loading the Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM Windows driver. Launching KaiserUnlocker.exe took it from there, albiet with one confusing caveat... IN the first part of step 1, KaiserUnlocker will tell you that you need to unplug and replug your usb during the second-half of step one. Okay, no problem. It fails to tell you that you're going to do this "uplug and replug" at the same time you'll be staring at text in red saying DO NOT UNPLUG OR LAUNCH ANY PROGRAMS!
However, unplugging and replugging is necessary in order to trigger Windows to use the bootloader drivers to communicate.
