Upgrading Orange ROM to imate Jasjar ROM

Hello,
I've just received my SPV M5000 and I'm loving it. However I do have a few niggles. Freezing, took ages to get skype to work, unable to install Tom Tom navigator 5.0.
I've heard that the imate Jasjar ROM is more reliable than Orange ROM.
Any information on the following questions would be much appreciated.
Does the imate ROM contain skype?
Where abouts can I locate the imate ROM?
How do install the ROM?
Can Tom Tom navigator run on the device?

TomTom runs on the orange ROM. Its the installation that has problems, and that is to do with the installation package not liking WM5/Activesync 4
You can install TTN by copying over the 5 cab files manually and running them on the device, you will also want to find the 5.1 update cab.
If you do a search you will find the cab, and the information on this board. It took me 15 mins all in.
I know it doesn't answer your question, but might save you turning your phone into a brick!!
Also, are you on orange? If so, how the hell are you going to afford to use skype after the 3months 3g trial ends? :wink: :lol:

In response to your question. I won't really be using Skype over 3g. I will only use within Wireless Haotspots using WiFi.
As I am a complete thicky, would you be able to spoon feed me the installation of Tom Tom to my Universal. Where to install, what, etc and the upgrade?

I'm an irregular poster on here but found myself in the position of having a genuine registered copy of TomTom Navigator 5 and unable to use it on my M5000 having just upgraded from the M1000 and M2000.
Elsewhere on this forum, I found thie following which is a very helpful guide to installing TTN5 with Bluetooth GPS.

There are 3 key steps in making TomTom 5 work on an i-mate JasJar with a Bluetooth GPS.
Many tips are scattered around in different Forums.
Here is a COMPLETE overview of what to do.
STEP 1 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
You do this by copying the CAB files from the CDROM (eg F:\PocketPC) to the JasJar and launch one by one from there with the explorer of the JasJar.
You can install voices the same manner by copying the CAB files to the Jasjar (eg from F:\Voice on the CDROM)
STEP 2 : UPGRADE TO V5.1

Extract and copy the files to a folder on the JasJar and install them from there.
STEP 3 : ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL
Fire up a registry editor (eg http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml )
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Delete the DWORD marked "hide"
Add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings.
STEP 4 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 8.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 8 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.

So far I was never happy with Orange ROMs. But I have a suggestion for you as long a realy good ROM is not avalable.
I installed the VGA tool. With this one the screen is much faster, specialy when turning the screen.
Than with the Total Commander CE the extended ROM is visible (just tip in the adress bar: Extended_ROM ). Here you can fist backup it and than remove unneccessary file as Orange ring tones etc. This will free up you some memory.
With this config my M5000 is working 50% faster as the standard out of the box.
A pitty is that the slider in the memory setting is missing as you had it in W2003 SE.

Mapping windows button

Hi guys,
I've flashed my Artemis with this: ARTEMIS & LOVE WM6.1 ROM V34 - Build 20758.1.4.1 (Manila2D)

but every time I click the Windows button, which used to launch the start menu, it launches internet explorer.
I'm sure this is a really easy fix for someone that knows what they are doing, but can someone give me an idiots guide to changing this back?
I thought about HButton, but I'm not sure that's what I need. Do I have to change the registry in some way?

Sorry, you have probably looked into this but isn't Buttons option available in settings?
I did try that ROM but kept FlyROM - and I can't remember if the option of changing it was there..

Yes the Buttons application is available in this ROM (in Settings). I just fixed the problem by using it.

Fix for Igo8 on Rhodium based roms "find Address"

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.- After Hard Reset
2.- Install Igo8
3.- Go to settings, Device, Power Management and set to "Backlight Always on"
4.- Go to "Find"
5.- go to Address
6.- select a city
Can you write something? I get an "Á" that I can not delete..
If you change the power Management to "Use Device Settings" then you can write the city name.
Solution:
For users having this problem with Rhodium roms and IGO8,
[device]
Type="ALIAS_TOUCH HD"
sdcard_dsk_num=7
This fix the problem

What setting do you have on IGO8 "Power Management "???
This is for people that have "Backlight allways on"..
anyway if your Igo is working great for you, I was just sharing my solution after 2 days, asking a testing posible solutions.

Thanks for your solution. It works very well.
At first I realised that I had the issue when I used the new keyboard so I disabled it (just using the standard one).
After your solution, I just noticed that I have another issue with the sound volume that I can only change with the screen slider, the physical volume buttons are not taken into account.
Is that the same for you and if yes do you have any idea of a trick to solve it?

no problems with igo8 and duttys 2.2 / DD 2 HP / leos vers 9
dont have any problems with igo8 and the latest roms!

I had the problem with MaryOne v1.3 and here was the fix i used (with mortscript and VJSipSwitchII) :

No need to change the power managment ....
I'm now using Dutty V2.2 but did not change my script, so I don't know if the problem accurs with my new rom

I Have the exact problem, and Tried your idea ( I added the [Device] and other lines you mentioned in my sys.txt file.
Now, There is NO Keyboard visible and I cannot choose anything.
Please can you help me one more time figuring out how to Find Address?

Just a question:
- why reinstall IGO8 after flashing the device?
If you installed it to your card, it will work normally after hard-reset or flashing new ROM. You simply have to copy a shortcut to lead to IGO8.exe and copy it into Windows\Start menu\Programs. It will even show up under All applications list.
Run it, and that's it.
Same goes for Ndrive, TomTom and pretty much any other program you install on your card. I got some programs running from the card I installed the very first day I got my HD, and I changed like 6 ROMs so far.

change your soft keyboard to "keyboard" the default old keyboard (not the new from manilla) and it works...

Keyboard Layout Help

I know that I am supposed to search, but for the life of me, I cannot find what I am looking for.
I have a Tmobile Dash. When I install some of the newer roms, they change the layout to be the Excalibur layout. Like on the dash the Q is with a % instead of the ! that is with the excalibur.
I am looking for a cab or something to change the layout so I can txt properly. Thank you in advance

Well i have no info on your location? So with guestermation download TegiceT9 install soft-reset phone.

Just edit your eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt. How you can make it plz read here.

FastGPS from X2

Can anybody patch the FastGPSsetup.cab from the original X2 to use with the X1.
I tried the cab. Installation is o.k. but after a restart it is no more possible to go on Start Menu.
I put it in the attachements.

it doesn't need to be patched. it should (i can't guarantee it) work if you install more cabs, but I haven't checked too much.

which cabs should I install in addition?

I tried instlling after fastgps other programs.
but just the same happens, after instllation of fastgps the startmenu is out of order.

i tried also to active gps on my xperia X2 by patching fastgspsetaup.cab but it doesn't work !! no icone in the start/setting/System !!

i think find something :
after patching fastgpsstup.cab on my phone (remember i didn't find any trace in the setting ! ) i restart my phone. i lanch googleMap, in the menu i choose Options/reinitialise google map...i lanch again googleMAp and i choose "use GPS" and...i saw a the righ top something like "GPS actif (x)...) x is the number of satteling found (sorry my language phone is in french)
i am going to test it after in open area

is it same program like QuickGPS?? cause i use QuickGPS rightnow
