i have a siemens sx66 and would like to be able to fax documents from it. is there any software that will allow this?
Don't know about your phone, but can't you sign up to some third-party that turns emails into faxes and so you just send an email from your phone and it comes out the other end as a fax (as it were...)? I guess you end up with the data cost of sending the email plus whatever the cost the third party invokes, but having used such services in the past, I'd say it was a good solution.
i haven't checked into that, but since my phone can act as a regular computer modem i figured it could fax anyway, and being that it runs 2003 and has word, i just figured that would be the easiest and all i would get charged for was the phone call. i have cingular and have about 10K minutes banked....

Sorry, but Fax signals are different from normal ASCII modem signals, so the modem has to be fax enabled (hardware issue). That's why the services are appealing.

Read the user manual or check the spec sheet from the manufacturer. If it's a US-built unit, the FCC specifications should indicate that it has CCITT-compatible fax capabilities. What model is it (manufacturer & model #)?

I've checked the specifications and, unfortunately, it's not capable.
thanks. i called my provider and they said they could do it through some type of mms type service, but of course, it will cost you...
now i need to get the fax software off, which doesn't have a untinstall......
SX-66 is the same as Pocket PC Phone Edition? I was able to fax with mine. Go to http://www.ksesoftware.com/showarticle.php?id=26 .

I have an HTC, unbranded version of the phone. Sim cards from any network work in it. I have flashed to Hard SPL.
Do I need to CID unlock, Security unlock, or anything else unlock the phone?!?
Only if you want to try out radios from other devices.
Perhaps this is a dumb question, but isn't using radios from other devices [crazy / dangerous / insane / not for anyone but the elite]?
<nudge> - Why would you want to use a radio rom from another device?
huh? location does not match your purchase address
WTF? I paid 24 USF by paypal and I get this via email after I run the program?
We have detected that your location does not match your purchase address, to protect you from card fraud, if you must unlock urgently, please reply and explain why your purchasing address is different from where you actually are, otherwise, simply wait 48 hours from purchase time.

what is unclear about that message? it tells you about its purpose and tells you how to fix the problem. you just need to reply to the verification email to get unblocked
If this is the international version then it is a GSM device and fully unlocked by default. If it were one of the CDMA versions (Verizon/Sprint) then you would be S.O.L. as far as I am aware of.

heh well Olipro and I made the unlocker for those phones. we do have a thread for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
Hi, can you confirm whether Desire supports Cell ID? The reason I'm asking is because I would like to write an app to use Cell IDs but I still don't have an Android phone. I have bitter experience with Windows Mobile which supports Cell ID only on a handful of handsets. So I have to decide which Android phone that supports Cell ID with 100% certainty to buy
Cheers!
Of course it supports cell id. Every GSM phone does.
Yes, it supports cell id

Technically yes, but on some phones you can't get it programatically because it's locked by the device driver. I have a LG KS20 running on WinMo and there's no way of getting the Cell ID. I spend like a month trying all possible ways to get it (like RIL, connecting to a COM port, even browsing the device's memory) and none of them worked. That's why I needed to know
This phone, if I'm not mistaken, works with CDMA 850 - 1900 bands which my HTC Desire uses for Open Mobile in Puerto Rico. I'm looking for a thread or tutorial that shows me how to configure a different carrier on a cellphone (mine does not carry the Epic).
However, it's hard to find. No threads show up on this forum, for example. Obviously the GSM SIM chip is almost plug and play, provided it's a world phone or already unlocked. Where I'm going is: does the cellphone automatically detect my network? Do I need to input data into the phone (I'm guessing yes) or change settings / tick boxes?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Can someone please reply? I've searched the net and used the search tool. Is it one of those "too obvoius" things? I believe there should be a lot more interest in this topic.
I spoke to an Open Mobile representative and she told me that the company searches the ESN to see if it's one of their phones. If it's not, they won't approve service for it. Is there a workaround? I just want to use the phone I want with the service I want, if it's possible. I believe this phone is compatible.
From the knowledge I have there is not a legal way to do this.

What he said. ESN cloning might be a gray area in some circumstances rather than completely illegal but it's not allowed to be discussed on XDA.
Hi guys,
I have the N5100 3G version. I have had it since may and it has worked well. However, since yesterday, Three UK started blocking me from using data. It says I have to get a tablet sim. The problem is I don't want to loose the ability to make phone calls.
Has anyone had an issue like this?
I'm also having the same issue, I have spoken to three support today at length with the result being "we can sell you a mobile broadband plan sim that you can swap out for data" - it appears that Three have launched the LTE version on the note 8 as a tablet only device (ie, no phone or text) and so are blocking all versions of the note 8 under that ruling.
I'm going to try and get to talk to someone not loacted in India tomorrow to look into this as this is my main device for phone calls aswell as data and I'm locked into the one plan for another 9 months!

Yay, I am not the only one! I am really disappointed with it. They don't seem to understand me, I also use it as my main device. I do wonder how they identify the device, it would be good if we could change it so they think its a phone.

We 5100 owners in the US want the exact opposite: tablet plans are so much cheaper, we wish it were recognized as tablets instead of phones! If they are identifying your device by imei number, you may be able to get around it by using an imei from an LTE version. I had a similar issue (in reverse) and that's how it was resolved. I may eventually get caught, but for now, I'm flying under the radar.

How difficult was that to do?
Be careful talk of changing imei is against the TOS on these forums. As tempting as it sounds it is both dangerous and legally dubious. It is a common tactic used by phone thieves to activate stolen phones. Also modifying such information can render your phone a paper weight if not careful.

I'm not sure exactly how it was done, but it only took a few minutes to do. I'm sorry I don't know more about what's involved.

Hi, have you spoken to someone? Any resolution?
Hello XDA,
I just wanted to know if it would be possible to obtain a plan where I would only be getting data from AT&T for my note 4 and not any sms or calling capabilities. This would be of use to me and many others because I already use google voice to make calls and sms which is free and only requires internet. So buy buying only an internet plan, I could still message and make calls just fine through google voice.
considering they have data plans for ipads and such i dont see why not.
AT &T most likely wouldn't sell you a data only plan for a phone.
Yeah that makes no sense to sell a data only plan. You either opt in for all of it or you dont. I tried to do that with a BlackBerry a long time ago and Sprint said no. It'll be no different than just using it for WiFi only unless you're wanting to use the phone outside of WiFi areas.
It doesn't hurt to call and ask but @Jspex is most likely right.
You can get a sim card for any device. No need to tell them what it's for. Just say you need a micro sim with data for some tablet you already have, direct quote. You'll find out if it works or not.
But maybe talk to two different people, or ask about the data sim first, to find out if the costs are the same for data vs data+other.
Att can tell what device you have your sim in when you connect it to their data network. That's why sim cloning is a practice of the past.

If the sales rep tells the system that there's a tablet on that line, that's what you'll be billed for. ATT can see an imei mismatch but they won't change what you're billed for without your consent.

But this would require you to already have the phone. You obviously wouldn't be able to start service and get a new handset this way.
