Universal Radio Upgrades - Hard vs. Soft Reset - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

OK I think I just did a stupid thing!
I thought that a Radio only upgrade didn't require a Hard Reset (i.e. to Factory defaults and losing all your local data / program installs).
So I went from 1.09 to 1.11, hit the 'reset' button on completion and the stupid thing did a hard reset!
So where did I go wrong - well I think it is because I did the radio upgrade as a standard upgrade just by running the normal update files with only the new radio ROM file present and no other ROM files.
What I didn't do was to enter the BootLoader manually first I left it all up to the RUU files to do the job
Is it this (not manually entering the bootloader first - like the Wiki tells you to - mind you it also tells you to hard reset) which caused the hard reset which was beyond my control :?:
I'm sure I've changed the Radio ROM only on my old BA without all this hassle - just can't remember what I did differently.

From what I remember, you are supposed to press the reset pin hole while pushing down on the ON/OFF button. This would cause it to soft reset according to the on-screen instructions, and it did on mine when I tried it. But of course, I also performed a backup to be on the safe side.

Really not my day today - Whilst reinstalling and going through reset cycles my Exec turned into a brick
Stuck at boot-screen with ROM versions showing
Hopefully the Wiki resolution to this one is going to work..
Ever wish you'd just left the thing alone

Whenever I've done a radio upgrade, I've simply pressed the reset button with the tip of the stylus - that's it.
I've done about 6 up/downgrades, I would guess, and not had any problems. I hope you get yours sorted out.
Cheers,
Steve.

At least I'm not going mad then - That's exactly what I did before this all went pear-shaped.
Did you upgrade whilst in the bootloader or just from WM5 running normally?

WM5 running normally - to be fair, it sometimes took a few attempts for the upgrade to "take", but once it was going, I've had no problems - glad to hear you manage to de-brick it.

Orbit firmware reset...

Anyone had to reset their XDA Orbit?
I had a nightmare when using IGO2006 GS software, with it wiping some boot OS files and leaving it with a whitescreen on bootup (WSOD). Had to reset (did a few times after testing IGO), but just wondered if there is a consequence to resetting the Orbit.
One thing I now notice is that during boot sequence between first blue screen to the second green windows logo there is a white screen flash for half a second. Cant remember if this was there from new?
Thoughts?
Jez
That was normal with my orbit too - then i did a hard reset - soft reset before the o2 extras installed and now it boots faster, i have more program memory and no white flash. I thought it was unusual too but its due to those o2 plugins. btw o2 settings are still kept without the o2 extras.

They install just as the hard reset is finishing - with a 3 sec timer - place stylus in soft reset hole before timer expires and the extras wont install.
Mine is faster after the hard reset i.e. without the extras.

I dont get any white screens flicker at all - its the same as my wizard but the boot time is MUCH faster - overclocking helps this.
I have not installed any of o2 plus - it is no use to me - i have better profiler etc.. The components of o2 plus can be broken down so if you just wanted one bit - a new cab can be made.

It also contains the o2 dialer - i prefer the stock one, the o2 web page, the o2 tray, the only good thing is the o2 theme! lol

??? DIY WM6.5 for Dummies Please??

Ok, so I am a Newb, but I am a start guy... 153 IQ, was always top of my class - however I have no F**ng clue what the guys in the development and hacking section are talking about.
Basically, I have a TP2 for Tmobile that I would like to do something with... ANYTHING~! Preferable install a cooked WM6.5 rom, or a 6.1 rom with Manilla 2.5 for the time being. An android or Sense UI port would be nice as well.
Can someone please either help me get started by pointing my in the correct direction of a helpful sticky, because frankly its tough searching through threads like this:
"[JUL 13][APP][ALPHA4] Nitrogen 1.1 (music player for Windows Mobile)"
Any help would be appreciated by me, and other not so technically inclined individuals.
Thanks a ton!

as for the hardspl
*Go into BootLoader Mode (do a Soft Reset while holding the "volume down" key on the left side of the device. Keep holding the "volume down" key until you see tricolour screen which is the bootloader mode, then release it) and verify the screen shows 0.85.OliNex, which is the HardSPL version*

it says 10 mins but it doesn't take that long. now you can flash away. i've flashed my phone like 3 times and ended with the touch it rom. i never tried tom codon rom. if you do try and landscape works let me know!
also you only need to hardspl once. so if you get tired of the rom just plug it in. run the customruu.exe and flash the new rom but ofcourse follow the instructions on the site lol

Hi Hdubli, can I have download link please,
http://hidemyass.com/files/xv4GF/ there you can download build 28008 for E100.
The flash for me was alright. Some notes though: the setup of Windows isn't working 100%, it seems to freeze at some point and a dropdownbox wasn't clearly shown. Also, the screen isn't used 100%: pixels at the side aren't used. Also, there seems to be a margin for the letters, as some letters at the edge (still in the active area though) seem to fall off.
edit: seems like something went wrong. I get the top bar showing the icons, but the yellow/orange Windows logo doesn't disappear. Have to do a hard reset I guess.
edit2: did a hard reset and this time I disconnected the phone from computer. Everything worked fine now, except that the outside pixels (about 5 on each side) are still not used. But the dropdownboxes all showed alright and it booted alright and installed extrom alright . Sry for the confusion, very good job on the ROM! Will test some more .

Hmm there is a problem with ActiveSync: the device doesn't always want to connect. The computer says it is not connected, but the device says it is. After some time or after trying to disconnect, the device just freezes. Annoying .
edit:.
Man hate this. It's really the device, tried 3 computers and they all refuse the connection. They say connecting and then disconnected, while the device thinks it's connected. Really odd, as it worked flawlessly before! Did a clean install and still not working!

Bro, this is bug issue, never flash your ROM before you ensure you get your original WWE ROM as default.....
Most importan part, no one is response when my first post, and "they" always told to "flash it, any problem is advise". <--- this part is very funny.
Not sure what you mean calvin, but anyway I reflashed with this custom ROM and it works again. No clue what changed, as a clean boot didn't help. But I'm happy again. And in case something happens, I still have the original ROM so not much risk for me.
edit: ooh no not again. After the first night, it was screwed again. Can't connect anymore :S. Hmm maybe I should go back to default then

Are You using Xp, Vista or else?
Can You check if ActiveSYnc is disconnected when screen goes black (timeout on backlight)? Don't let that Windows Mobile adjust backlight but set it!
In my case never found this kind of problem, but I see in various forum that 6.5 build in some case goes with this problem, for example I got that situation with Vista and with original rom 21840 build.
Apologies for the slightly off topic post, but I don't suppose you guys know of any updated ROMs for the beTouch E200 do you? Would like to get an updated version of WM6.5 on this thing...
The problem is that the computer (tried both Vista and Windows 7) doesn’t connect, while the device says it is connected. Then nothing happens, except that the device freezes after some time or says that any program I want to run isn’t a valid PPC application :S. After a reset everything is fine again, except that I can’t use activesync. This both happens with USB and Bluetooth connection. The connection is also lost when I power off the phone manually. But that rarely happens: it always freezes before I even get to that point and then it doesn’t respond to anything.
Also, when I unplug the device before it freezes, I get an ARM error saying I need to go to some specific memory address or ARM will break. If I go to that address, the phone freezes with screen off, if I let the ARM break (what the...?!) it freezes with screen on .
I just flashed back to original ROM. The first sync is alright. If it stays alright, then definitely the custom ROM can be 'blamed'. If no further is heard, then everything is fine again with original ROM.

Need help with factory reset after unlock

I got my Vogue late 2008 and unlocked it and have had many different ROMs on it. Until recently, I was running NFSFAN's 6.5 v1 ROM. I *cough* got mad at my phone because it was not responding and pushed hard on the screen *cough*. Happens to everyone right ? Anyway, now the screen is all white with a bunch of lines on the left, Verizon is shipping me a new one. Problem, or not, is I told them I had no thrid-party apps on it, which I do, and I have unlocked it and put a custom ROM on it, illegal w/ Verizon right? Can I factory reset or something to get WinMo 6.1 back on it so they don't get mad if indeed they can get it working? Note the screen does not work at all.

You should be able to just put it into bootloader (by pushing power, camera, and soft reset button) and then flash your stock verizon 6.1 rom. That would erase all your apps and put it back to how it was when you bought it. Though it would still show that you have the phone unlocked with imcokeman in your bootloader..
You can't drop the phone because that would show cracks.
You can't make it wet because that's detectable.
Most people forget, this is an electronic device and there is 1 easy fix.
Put a big magnet... I mean BIG magnet next to it for about a minute or two.
No visible/obvious damage
But that sucker will definitely be wiped

You can flash back the device to WM 6.1 stock from Verizon. Flashing another rom is not illegal, but it does void the warranty since you need to hardSPL to do that. So, even if you did take it back to stock, you have the issue of relocking.... (not really an issue, but..)
Do as Barogi suggested and make sure you hard reset the device after you flashed (just in case any programs survived the flash). After you are done, simply download this and run it. That's it, problem solved...
Good luck!
