Hi!
Just asking whether anyone tested a wifi 'g' card on his Universal?
Any increase in speed performance and by how much for data transfer?
Thanks
why would you want to do that while you can change the registry and give the universal the power of using WIFI G network ?
RE
I'm thinking of 'g' WiFi it to the Wi-Drive hard disk....later
You're right about the registry change. I'll look into it later
there isn't any registry hack to change wifi to G on a universal it's all bulls...
There is a registry hack to make the universal into a wireless-g device, it just doesn't make it faster than 11 Mbits. It's useful though to find access points that are limited to only seeing g devices. I wouldn't expect an SDIO-g card to make any difference -- certainly web browsing speed would be approximately the same, and you can't use it and put in an SD card so downloading large files is a non-issue. Maybe streaming video, but then, I wouldn't expect the uni to be able to keep up with a full 11 Mbit streaming video in the first place.
That's is what I think too. I'm getting a Exec so I have been looing into this device for a while. Anyway, making the Universal to be able to get the network from a 802.11g is will be so much helpful since there is no much thing requires high data-transfer speed on the Universal like on a normal computer so 11mbps should be just fine.
Quote from msmobiles.com:
Here is description how to do it:
We have tested it with HTC Universal (Orange M5000) and it seems to work!
The test was done in the following way: a Wi-Fi access point that previously was running in 802.11g-only mode, had to be put into dual mode (802.11b + 802.11g) to support Orange M5000 (HTC Universal), but thanks to making the following changes into registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
... the HTC Universal is able to access Wi-Fi access point that works in 802.11g -only mode. PHM Registry Editor was used to effect this change (but any freeware or commerical registy editor can do it). As before with HTC Wizard, please note: you must reset your phone after making the changes in the registry!

I set it in the registry w/ PHM registery Editor. But I can't connect to G-mode only AP yet. My phone is T-Mobile version MDA pro. Any suggestions? Anyone succeeded to connect to G only AP with Universal?
You can try dot11SupportedRateMask=8 and delete dot11SupportedRateMaskG from registry.

Hi folks!
As some of you already know, I wrote a tool which sets a Wizard to use the WLAN g mode. It also did some other tweaks.
Some people reported the tool also works for other devices, like the Universal and the Axim X51(v). But the additional tweaks of the Wizard Optimizer were specifically for the Wizard.
So now you can download a special version of the tool, which only enables WLAN g.
FEEL FREE TO TEST IT ON OTHER WLAN ENABLED POCKET PCS AND SMARTPHONES!
Tested devices:
HTC Wizard: works perfectly
HTC Universal: claimed to be working, no exact information on this
Dell Axim X51(v): claimed to be working, no exact information on this
How to use it:
-copy the cab file to your PPC
-execute it on the PPC
-wait a minute then (soft)reset the device
I don't take any responsability for damage (lost data) caused by this tool.
RE
Its no longer there, why???
I don't know why the file was down, but I reupped it. Have fun!

acutally on my O2 XDA Exec, the ethernet comms device is called 'tiacxwln1', so im surprised if the cab tested ok on the universal
i've poked in the registry values as follows (values in decimal):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS:
DWORD dot11SupportedRateMask=1 (this is already configured on my latest 1.13.82 ROM)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS:
DWORD dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
can't say i've noticed getting more than 11Mbps - how do i find out?!
You have to set your router to use only wlan g mode, then you will see if it works.
Thanks for your regentrys, I will add them if it works for you.
RE
Hi!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS:
DWORD dot11SupportedRateMask=1 (this is already there by default on my QTEK9000)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS:
DWORD dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8 (added)
I see no difference in speed unless there's some speed test site to try out. My router works in a/b/g modes
I can confirm without a doubt that it doesnt work on my o2 xda exec (HTC Universal)
@FOSA
@ericblong
Did you try to set your Router to G-Only mode by now?
RE
djvw,
Is there a need to set the router to 'G' mode only?
I'm using 'A' mode to connect my router to my notebook. 'B' mode to connect my PPC to the router and 'G' mode for my IP webcams
The modes are auto detectable by the devices
You need to set the router to g-mode to test if your Qtek CAN connect to it in g-mode.
If you leave the setting at a/b/g mode (mixed mode) you have no chance to see if you are connected in g-mode. The device may also connect in b mode without your notice.
It's all just for testing, after that you can set the router back to mixed mode. The Qtek will always try to use the best mode autmatically then.
I have updated the registry and set my router to G only and the Exec (HTC Universal) won't connect - it goes off searching for a 11b network

May be can use this software to determine the data speed

1. It's old.
2. I think it doesn't show which WLAN mode you are running.
@tony
Did you change the above regkeys or did you install the cab?
It's actually a new version which is supposed to support WM5 and was only released this year.

Just did the reg keys - I didn't think the cab file was for an Exec...
Regards,
Tried the cab file but still no joy!
Remember, CapNotify.exe doesn't exist on the Exec but shouldn't prevent the other aspects from working but they don't
This on a UK Exec from O2 with ROM 1.13.82 WWE, Radio 1.04.02, Protocol 42.37.P8, Extended ROM 1.13.188 WWE.
Regards,
Same here dont work, added just the reg key, router set to g only mode, exec searches for signal.
Ive done the same as TonyBro & dazzled
IE/ added the registry keys, soft reset, enabled G mode on my router, the exec wont connect, as soon as I enable b/g mode on router the exec connects.
Its a shame, It would have been nice to have G transfers.
Doesn't work on the Alpine either. Knew it wouldn't but worth a try.
Thanks anyway.
Wont connect!
After I installed the cab-file my phone can´t connect to the GSM-net!
I did a softreset, but the phone still did not function until i did a hardreset...
Someone...
Qtek 9100, Sweden
Indeed clicking as much as one time on "Bluetooth Explorer" will cause TomTom not to function properly any more (maps/voices not found etc.).
I have learnt that the hard way!!!
Many members of this forum speculated that the Artemis SD card housing is somehow related to TT's maps to vanish.... NOT TRUE!!!
After a hard reset I have tested that TT was fully functional and I have (intentionally... just to find out) clicked on Bluetooth Explorer and BINGO the TT6.1 maps&voices are GONE!!!
If some of the forum experts would happen to read this and would feel like giving instructions to disable Bluetooth Explorer it would be very helpful.... this will surely avoid SEVERAL hard resets to many people.
I have read that one should go to Settings/Connections then select the FTP tab and uncheck "Enable Bluetooth Explorer" but this is not to be found on my ARTEMIS (P3300)... Let's see if somebody will find a moment to share his/her wisdom with the rookies and shed some lights on this annoying problem.
Cheers!
SiperX
On my Orbit you do the following to disable the Bluetooth Explorer
Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / FTP (tab)
Then select or de-select Bluetooth Explorer.
I appreciate your kind reply Patrick but as you can read in my thread this path (Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / FTP (tab)) is not available in the Artemis/HTC P3300.... Anybody else?
Do you have a comms manager? If so you can access the ftp option of the bluetooth settings from here.
TomTom and Bluetooth explorer both work on my xda orbit.
herghost, what version of TomTom are you running?
I m unable to have Bluetooth Explorer enabled on my Orbit, and get TomTom to find the maps. I am running ver 6.02
perfect, i wasnt able to make tomtom recognize maps on orbit(on universal it works w/o probs) i switched bt expl. off and it works. thx
Guys, there is no doubt. TT (mine is version 6.1) and BT Explorer are NOT going to work together! I am glad to hear that phsnake could get his orbit to resume TT functions.... And (also) I found out that my old rom (the one originally shipped with the P3300) had the path (Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / FTP) to disable BT Explorer (as Patrick_UK explained) ... but the one I am using now does not offer the chance to enable/disable BTE.... any registry master would be kind enough to offer his/her expertise to make this possible? I am not so keen on editing the REG unless I know exactly what has to be done
rom 1.28.0.0 wwe
rom date 11-06-06
radio 02.69.90
protocol 4.1.13.30
ext. rom PDAMobiz.com
SiperX:I'll try today to find reg solution, i cannot promise anything, but i'll do reg export with btexpl. switched on, then with switched off and compare reg.files. hopefully i'll find the right one key.
Phsnake, this sounds like a great idea! Thanks in advance!!! I really hope that you can succeed and give me support in this matter.
By the way where did you find the rom (ROM: DOPOD IPL: 1.25.0001 SPL:1.27.0000 GSM: 2.69.90 OS:1.28.0.0 WWE) you are running now? It sounds lke the right one for my T-Mobile Artemis.
so i compared the regs and diff follows:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BluetoothFolder]
"EnableClient"=dword:00000001
"HDEVICE"=dword:00031380
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\68]
"ClientInfo"=dword:00000000
"Hnd"=dword:00031380
"Key"="Drivers\\BlockDevice\\BTDisk"
"Name"="BTD1:"
i guess all U need 2 do is change "EnableClient" from 1 to 0. try it and let us know. (i can disable it thru bt settings). or remove above posted reg entries.
ROM:its standard dopod shipped(the latest one) should be on wm-gurus.com
Thanks man! The registry editing you suggested worked and the BT Expl. is now OFF and TT finds the maps again!!!
But the option to enable/disable the BT Expl. (via BT settings as you say) is still not available any chance you could send me a screenshot of your reg for both [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BluetoothFolder] and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\68]?
For your Dopod rom, could you please give me a precise link where I can download it? I could not find it at wm-gurus.com.
Thanks a lot
ftp.wm-gurus.com/Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates/ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe
yes i know that wont allow u to switch off btexpl. thru bt control panel.
Here are regentries U requested, but i dont think it'll help. but try.
Thanks again!
BTW, the same file (ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe) was available at XDA too.... I have tested it a few weeks ago it and -being an AU (Australian rom) my sim (Dutch T-Mobile) did not get registered as the operator is apparently not quoted .... strange that you can use it in Scotland.
For regs I will see what I manage to put together and will let you know... Great (and prompt) support was very appreciated...
Hi again,
I have flashed once more the ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe onto my Artemis and I have (FINALLY) noticed that the SIM does register and I am able to use the phone (incoming & outgoing calls).
The only problem is that every time I reboot I get a notification from the "NETWORK WIZARD" which says "your current operator (20416) is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor".... Any idea how I can get this nag off my back?
Thanks
try to check \windows\startup
I have deleted (& made a copy for backup) these 5 files:
netwiz.cpl
netwiz.dat
netwiz.exe
netwiz.exe.0404.mui
netwiz.ini
from the Windows folder of my Artemis.
After rebooting the Network Wizard notification does NO LONGER pops up!!!! So I would say "Problem solved", right?
I am glad that -thanks to the recent communications we exchanged- you "inspired" me to give one more try to the Dopod rom and I finally seem to have found what I wanted.
Only one final point: In other roms if you click on the phone signal bar you get the option to turn on/off the flight mode and if you click on the icon on the right of the phone signal bar you culd turn on/off the WiFi... in this rom you get a small (blue) Comm Manager link to follow in order to enable/disable these functions.... did you find any faster ways to activate WiFi or Flight mode? May be they can be added to the voice commands?
Cheers
u can use phonealarm-some skins supports one click wifi, gprs, btooth switch,
I saw phonealarm but I have decided to spend the end of the weekend configuring my newly installed rom (immediately after I will make a Sprite backup) and along the way try to think of something to keep to a minimum the amount of additional SW installed. What do you think if I use "tray launch", would that allow me to make the necessary shortcuts?
By the way (with previous roms) I kept my Artemis overclocked at 240 Mhz and it was pretty stable, did you test any higher frequency on the Dopod rom?
In order to fix my buggered wifi problem I purchased a 'G' sdio wifi card from spectec. I thought I would post my experience.
The card does work! It has good speed (perhaps fitting the 'g' rating, but I am not sure) and EXCELLENT range (compared to my old Dell CF wifi card in my Axim X5 anyway).
The only problem with it is that if the unit powers off or if you remove the card, you must soft-reset to gain access to the wlan driver again. The card will power up and flash, but there will be no connection... in fact the WIFI utility will not even open until you soft reset. All I do is run WIFIfofum and keep the card alive all the time.
BTW, if you use POCKETLAN with this, you can map a folder on a file share and pretend it is your missing SD storage card. Works quite nicely.... My plan is to buy a BLUONYX (when the come out) and use it as a massive SD Card replacement.

wow you must really need wifi to make you buy a separate one...
but the problem with the wlan driver losing access when you power off the device or after turning it off is actually ROM dependent....
thanks for the info anyway regarding the card
Yeah. It seems to have something to do with keeping the driver alive and getting confused with the built in driver when it is time to revive it. Often WIFI comes back in the 'on board' form. I have been toying with the idea of just swapping the names of the drivers in the registry...
WIFIFOFUM2 does a pretty good job (if I remember to start it). The only drawback is battery power is lost.. (you cannot remove the card, even with it running).
I don't how anyone can live without WIFI on these things... there are just so many uses for it...
Skype... web surfing... syncronising podcasts directly...a whole host of lan services...vnc... windows terminal services...
I do a lot of support work now at home... I just carry my VNC or WTS connection around with me instead of being tied to a desktop/laptop... it's great!
i forgot to mention that it does not work in wm6. i tried. the driver locks up on install.
Really? I didn't realize that was an SDIO slot. Thanks for letting me know, the wifi on my uni is dead too, and i was thinking about buying a new phone. hehe
Is it Spectec SDW-821 SD WiFi Card 802.11b/g ?
I find black one (http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=132725) and blue one(http://www.buygpsnow.com/spectec-sd...821-sdio-wireless-lan-retail-package-613.aspx) in internet , does it make any difference?
I found blue one is always cheaper than black one while searching internet.
I'm palning to buy one since my O2 XDA EXEC WiFi has poor reception,. and I need to get better option.
It says Transfer data rates is up to 54Mbps at 802.11g, so I'm hoping I get faster speed, and range.
Any updates on this?

I have an Qtek 2020 with PPC 2003 (ROM v1.75.103) on it and I just bought a Spectec SDW 821 b/g WiFi Card. It seems as if I can connect to my WLAN (it says 'connected' in the Settings menu) but when I for example start Pocket Internet Explorer I cannot surf the internet, because it says there is no connection??? When I then want to configure the connection I only cannot choose WLAN...
Any idea?

It's a ROM related problem. I'm currently running c_shekhar's 6.1.1b version with a Spectec 820 b WiFi card without problems. See the c_shekhar's Himalaya (Qtek 2020) ROM forum here:

The 'b' version is not available anymore and some people complain about the 'c' version with the Spectec card, but try it out first. Maybe c_shekhar can send you the 'b' version to you personally.
Thanks for your reply. I hoped it could get it working without the scary flashing thing (). I will think about it...

Registry trick to fix WIFI
This is a trick to fix my O2EXEC. The internal WIFI died, so I bought a SPECTEC 11G SDIO wifi card. It works with WM6, however when you power off the machine the wifi stops working. You have to reset with the wifi card in to get it to work again. I suspected that it might be a problem with the old driver for the built in wifi....
I got a registry editor (REGEDITCE c1.2) and found all the references to TIACXWLN.DLL and changed it to point to WLAN11G.DLL
goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then
COMM
then
TIACXWLN
edit
IMAGEPATH
to say WLAN11G.DLL
then do the same on
TIACXWLN1
I have not tested too much, but initially it seems to survive a power down and a card replacement.
I have been testing for a few days now and it is working great. a few seconds after inserting the car, it connects.... and even shows the icon (which was previously there only when the built in wifi was on)

Is there a way with an HTC Dash / Excalibur running WM6 Standard to access network resources on a LAN through the WIFI? I've tried looking for an option in Total Commander, and I installed the Resco Explorer 2007 trial. It seems that Resco's PocketPC version supports mapping drives, but not for the WM6 Standard. I've seen screenshots of what is available in Resco Explorer. That option is omitted for the WM6 Standard version.
I've tried ORB and Soonr. Those seem to be the only methods, but I was hoping for a more native method.
Any suggestions or advice?
Thank you,
Tim
Mapping to Home Network Share
Is this not possible on an HTC S620/S621 ? I would like to be able to map to my network shares. I could then even use Hamachi VPN to connect even if I'm away from home.
But first things first. There seems to be no way to map a drive letter, or even connect via a UNC statement of \\abc\123 ... etc.
So far the only methods I've seen are soonr and orb. I suppose it's a work around, but I was hoping for a more windows native method.
From my research, it seems that those running touch screen / windows mobile professional can do this. If they add Resco Explorer 2007 it has that option. I installed the Windows Smartphone Standard trial version, and the option doesn't exist.
Nor does it exist with Total Commander.
Thank you,
- Tim
Not possible with WM6 Standard Devices?
Haven't received an answer. I've been googling for a response, but everything I've read seem to indicate that the network mapping thing is a real crippling part of these phones.
I've noticed that this seems to be a major difference between WM6 devices with touch screens, therefore running WM6 professional versus the WM6 Standard Devices.
Touchscreen WM6 Devices can map drives, use remote connectivity software, and even have more advance function in pocket office.
Non-touchscreen WM6 devices can't perform drive mappings, or use remote connectivity software like RDP or VNC.
I'd like to be able to map a drive to my network, and transfer files that way, rather than through activesync. I can't understand how I can obtain an IP using my HTC Dash's WIFI over my wireless router, but yet, not connect in any manner to the network that I have shared drives on.
If someone knows of a way, then please let me know.
Thank you,
Tim
no one has ever mapped a drive w/ the excalibur??

Maybe Microsoft's Live Mesh technology will help this. Apparently there will be a client for mobiles and could give you a way to access your files on the go. (I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but maybe helps solve the problem)
See http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=399577 for some details
How to map a network Drive with Built in WM software.
Hey guys. I have to say the solution is so simple it is Genious.
Simply open up internet explorer on your device and type in \\SHARENAME\
IE will translate this into file://\\sharename\ and if it is password protected it will ask you for the user name and password. You will then be sent to Windows File Explorer, and Viola you are surfing your network resources. You can even save them as a favorite for later use.
I hope this helps.
That doesn't seem to do anything?? Did you get this to work in IE for wm6.1?
I'm struggling to restore BT Dial-Up Networking profile in my i780. I've used known solution for this, but it doesn't work exactly as it should.
After changing HKLM\Software\Microsoft\BTHATCI\Port from '5' (default) to '3', I've managed to get to the stage, where DUN profile is recognised by other devices (my Nokia N810 Internet Tablet in particular), but when I try to actually connect - it fails. However, it seems like really close to the definitive connection - there is BT communication between devices, even Data Call Manager in i780 indicates 'general.t-mobile.uk' data call, while N810 is still waiting for connection and eventually dies.
Because I've had DUN working excellent between N810 and HTC Kaiser, powered by dutty's WM6.1, I've manually checked all DUN-related registry settings in Kaiser and i780 - they are all the same. The only different bits that are relevant here, are \Windows\atcmdint.dll and \Windows\bthatci.dll files. I've tried to copy them across from Kaiser to i780, but I can't - as they are protected by the system.
I don't have any other ideas what could cause such problems. DUN service is detected, I can initiate connection, but I can't get it finally connected. I think mentioned above files are the very last resort in this case. Is there any way of extracting system-protected files from \Windows directory? Or maybe someone has it saved somewhere and could send them out? Thanks in advance for any advise.
I've managed to figure out that phone doesn't respond to ATDT command. It takes AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","general.t-mobile.uk" initstring correctly (hence Data Call Manager shows APN), but when it comes to ATDT*99# - it fails with the error. I've also tried to dial ATDT*99***X# where X=0-6 but also no luck.
Any suggestions?
