XdaIIi - I can connect using wifi but I can not connect to GPRS. I either get a message teling me that I can not connect for unknown reasons or I get directed to the network logon screen where I'm asked for a password. I'm not sure what this passwrd should be as I dont recall ever having set one previously.
All thoughts & suggestions welcome
Pete
Hi Guys I've actually had this all working before but after much messing to be honest and wasn't sure what got what working
OK firstly I don't have a manual for my XDAIIs but I'm pretty technically savvy so this isn't too much of a problem (until now) My dilemma is that when setting up my connection firstly I'm unsure if I need to select "Work" or "The Internet" on first initialising my Wifi LAN (I have however tried both).
When I choose Internet and use my network key I get access to the internet but no MSN Messenger access. After this non-connection with MSN I can't access the internet again even though I turn off the wifi and back on to re-initialise it ?????
In the past I'm sure I used "Work" to connect and I'm not sure if I ticked "this networks connects to internet" from within the proxy settings and as I mentioned Internet and Messenger both connected flawlessly.
Can someone please give me some pointers as to what I should be connecting to as in "Internet" or "Work" and possibly what I need enabled/disabled.
Is "Work" like a PC LAN which you would use for broadband for example, as if this is so I guess I'd use this ??? And the "Internet" simply uses your network settings / dialup settings ? (I'm just unsure). Today I had Orange dialog pop up when using "Internet" after a period of inconnectivity which I've never had before when I had both Internet and MSN working (Bloody hard resets).
I probably sound like Im waffling here but just trying to give as much information as possible to help ascertain where I'm going wrong. The setup is a wireless router directly connected to a broadband connection. It's WEP and I have network Key.
Any pointers greatly appreciated, especially as to the "Internet" or "Work" choice as I'm unsure which is which.
Thx in advance.

First things first, you must install ICSinstall.cab, which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1949360&postcount=644
Then, you just launch Internet Sharing from the all programs menu, and two entries will appear. The first will be PC Connection, and the second Network Connection.
If installed correctly, ICS will allow you to select USB for the PC Connection (WMWifiRouter or a similar tool will allow a WiFi connection to be made).
Network connection shows None. Any ideas on how to make this show the service provider cellular connection (ie TELUS)
The following has been tried so far and failed:
created an entry under My Work Network under Connections with #777 as the dial number, and a blank username and password
created the following value in the registry: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings\ForceCellConnection and made it equal to both "TELUS" and "CDMA1X"
I also want to know what .dlls should be removed, if any, to protect the fact that ICS is being used from external parties.
Finally figured out that I needed to just install this program:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538874
Works great with the TELUS TP2 - my Thinkpad's Access Connection utility was preventing access to the internet once connected to the adhoc utility, so I uninstalled that, and all works!
Tested on Telus TP2 works great. Thanks for the help..
Telus Charges
Doesn't Telus charge extremely large amounts of money for using your data connection like that?
Hi, dears!
Q: why I can not use my wireless networks?!
I have two type of wireless network.
I can use both of this networks in my laptop, but I am confused and tired of retrying more and again and again in pocket pc.
===========================
First network is in our faculty:
1- Proxy Server (that will be set in pc in: InternetExplorer/Tools/InternetOptions/Connection/LanSetting/)
Address:192.168.12.20 Port:8080
2- And not any more setting is required in this network!
-----------------------------------
Second, in our dormitory:
1- Proxy Server (that will be set in pc in: InternetExplorer/Tools/InternetOptions/Connection/LanSetting/)
Address:192.168.0.1 Port:8080
2- In this network anyone has an specific IP for Wireless
Mine is:
IP: 192.168.0.188
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.188
(You maybe know it better than me that this configuration must be set in wireless properties in PC)
3- This network also use user-password that when I open opera or InternetExplorer (In PC), it will ask me for them:
suppose it is: user: 1111 and password: 2222
----------------------------------
In PC, I use both of this networks successfully.
Also I can connect both of them in ppc, (PPC show me "connected"!)
BUT! I cant not use this "connected" network in IE or Opera in PPC, Why?
I am really confused and tired.
----------------------------------
Now, who know what I must do?

Extra Information:

WM 6.1 Build 20771.1.4.6
I don't know what kind of more info is needed for describong device situation!
1. Setings-Conections-Conections-Advanced-Select Networks from My ISP changed it to My Work Network, select Edit button Proxy Setings to go and check on This network conects to the Internet button and then OK.
2. In Wifi settings on the card again in Conections (the icon is Wifi) Network Adapters to select The Internet. Ok. Wifi-and restarts it.
Good luck.
Dear, SPGI!
First thank you for answering.
Altought I did many test on this ways before, but I removed all old configurations first, and then I did your advice, but not worked!
I am often (and now) in Dormitory. In dormitory wireless network when I try to load any site IE shows this error: " The page connot be found. Check the name and try again", What is the matter? (In PC in this moment IE must show user-pass window!)
I saw some problem in wireless in this pags that their text was very onfusing for me!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567110
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=568878
Can I ask, those phone are same as mine? or they have another problem. becuase (I said) I can connect wireless, (altought it is useless yet) but it seems they can not turn their wireless or semi-problems.
-----
Everyone I restart my phone, it shows a message that had not set any data connection, why?
In Setting/Connection/Connection/Manage existing connections/Proxy Setting/Advanced/HTTP/
(I set dormitory wireless network server as 192.168.0.1 and port as 8080 there.)
There are username and passoword also that I think it must be instead of user-pass login that IE in PC will show when I Open IE. But I don not know what is the domain?
Then, If user-pass must be set here, what is the domain?
And if not: where it must be set?
Also, I found this In Setting/Connection/WiFi/Network Adapter/SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter:
IP and Subnet mask and Default gateway.
Hi, Im new to this forum and to my XDA IIs which I bought on ebay. It's on windows 2003, and I have done a hard re-set as it froze first time I used it. I'm on O2 pay-as-you-go in the UK. I've tried all suggestions I can find online to get on the internet via wi-fi, but all I get is 'no modem at above number'.
I contacted o2 help, and was told that it's because it was originally a contract phone and wont connect to the internet on a pay-as-you-go sim. I'm sure there has to be a way around this (well I'm hoping so!) and would appreciate advise please.

uhmmm, have you tried to start wifi via Wireless Manager? The wifi has absolutely nothing to do with pay as you go or with the SIM card for that matter. It is a different part of the device.
I feel silly now. I had been on the wireless manager many times and tried all different settings, but I thought I would try once more before I replied, and I don't know how or why but it's working now! Thanks!
woops, I'm back again! I had a look and it says GPRS is now connected, even though my wireless icon is open at the bottom - any ideas?

So, you are having issues with GPRS or with Wifi. They are two separate things.
are you attempting to connect via your O2 GPRS intenret, or connect to your wifi via the wifi connection.
it sounds like it may be trying to use grps over wifi.
When I go to the wireless manager theres buttons for GPRS, Bluetooth and WIFI.
The GPRS has a drop down menu which has these options:
mobile web GPRS
my connection 1
my connection 2
O2UK WAP GPRS
WAP network GPRS
WLAN has no drop down menu, and when I click it, it switches on or off.
When I was connected before, the wireless icon was open at the bottom of my screen, but then I noticed it said GPRS connection is in use. When I click on the wireless icon at the bottom of the screen, I get a page which says Wireless LAN manager, and there's a box with current configuration (SSID : Mode: BSSID: MAC: Tx Rate Channel ... etc) the boxes are all greyed, and have no information in them.
There's 3 options at the bottom of this page on my phone - 'main' : 'settings' : 'LEAP'. When I go to 'setting's, it has power save mode. In 'LEAP' it has SSID.....Authentication Type, with nothing in the columns below. There are options for 'New' : 'Modify' : 'Delete'
When I go to 'New' it has boxes for filling in SSID : User Name : Password : Domain. Authentication Type choice of Open System or EAP.
I tried using my SSID from my BThub, but I don't know where to find the information for username etc (I tried using my own name but even though I've put information in the field, it gives the message "user name is required' and I can't go any further.
I'm hoping I'm on the right track to getting on my Wi-Fi and hope I'm giving the correct information!
The GPRS seems to connect no problem now, but it's the wireless I'd like to use as the GPRS has cost me some of my credit.
Thanks guys!

Switch off the GPRS connection and then turn on the Wifi. If it finds a network, it will give you a prompt saying that it found x and y wireless networks. Select one and if it is protected, it will prompt you for the network key. It should not try to connect to GPRS if your wifi is on... Having said that, you have to turn wifi on and establish a connection first before attempting to use any app that pulls data from the internet. The PPC is configured so that it will automatically turn on GPRS if it doesn't have any other way available to pull the data (and it will not turn on wifi by default either). Good luck.
Thanks
Its been a while, but I just popped back to say thanks! I managed to figure out how to use GPRS when on the move and wifi when Im at home thanks to you guys! Looking at it now - 3 months later.... it all seems pretty obvious, but you helped me when I didn't have a clue. Im now a dedicated fan of the XDA iis and have successfully flashed mine to win 6.5, and have bought one for me darling other half, and a graphite for my daughter . Thanks again xx
