WARNING: operators and distributors and manufacturers... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

WARNING: operators and distributors and manufacturers want to CHEAT YOU OUT OF A2DP (stereo audio over Bluetooh)!
The worst is happening: ROM upgrades with Push Email are rolling out (not all public yet, but our sources already have them) and some of operators and distributors are not placing the A2DP (support for stereo audio over Bluetooth) in ROM upgrades with Push Email!!!
As of now we can confirm, that ROM upgrade for i-mate K-JAM with Push Email and upcoming ROM upgrades with Push Email from Orange UK - don't have support for A2DP (stereo audio over Bluetooth)!
Microsoft is offering to all hardware manufactures possibility to include native support for stereo audio over Bluetooth, but apparently the biggest buzz these days is about Microsoft's new Push Email technology, so these manufacturers (HTC?) or operators (Orange?) or distributors (i-mate?) are "forgetting" to include the A2DP in latest ROM upgrades! This is big scandal! Obviously Microsoft is not at fault because Microsoft made A2DP available as some manufacturers and operators prove: O2 Xda Atom made by Quanta, M600 and G500 made by E-TEN and German version of T-Mobile MDA Pro - have A2DP on board!
Our advice to (potential) customers is crystal clear: stop, don't buy a Windows Mobile phone!!! ... unless support for stereo audio over Bluetooth (A2DP) is already now available! In other words: don't trust in promises and in marketing pep-talk of some employees of some distributors, operators or manufacturers. Apparently for some reasons (technical problems with integration? testing not finished? quality issues?) the A2DP is not available in Push Email upgrades... and nobody knows "if" and "when" it will be available. Today it is i-mate and Orange... tomorrow it may be other operators and distributors. If they don't show respect to you, then you shouldn't buy their products. It's THAT simple!

Looney.
There are many good reasons not to include A2DP with the AKU2 release, not least being the fact that it doesn't work very well.
To suggest that anyone should boycott OEMs who 'dare' not to release under developed solutions to an unspecting public is like suggesting we should stop buying cars that don't come with nitrous injection and wings...
A2DP will be here soon, just wait until it works properlly (AKU 2.2 as I understand it).

How to make Bluetooth voice dial work on our HTC devices.

No bull ****.
I have an MPX300 and the bluetooth voicedail work swwwweeettt!
I am almost tempted to keep the MPX300 because the BT handsfree works great and the ability to make calls by pressing a button on my BT headset and only using my voice is so wonderful.
I can leave the phone in my briefcase or in my PDASkin case and make a call by simply pressing one button on my BT headset and speaking a number or simply saying the name of one of my contacts, perfectly. Even while I drive my car.
Ha, and other people ***** about the PDA-cell phone being to big! They can't any more when the little BT headset on my ear can do everything there dumb "small" phone can do!
The maker of the bluetooth hardware driver and voice recognition software is www.voicesignal.com
If they make it for all the other phones out there, dam it, they should make it for the HTC devices too.
The only problem is they do not think there is a market for all the individual "end users" like us and I think they only deal with the OEM clients.
If we gather together and become a "high dollar" client like the OEM is, they will listen and make it. They are in their business for the money.
If we can find out their bottom line dollar amount they would need to develop a solution for the different HTC devices, and have xda-developers set up a special paypal donation account for bluetooth voice dial, and we all donate, we could do this.
I am willing to donate $200.
Because they will have to make a hardware driver for each HTC device, they may want a certain amount of money for each device. We may have to set up several donation accounts.
Hey, it is worth a shot.
Or, we could just bug the **** out of them and maybe they will start making it for our devices if they think there is a market for it.
Word of caution though, if we bug the **** out of them, they think there is a market for it, they will charge more if we go with the group donation idea.
Well, opinions please.

VoiceSignal software for smartphones
VoiceSignal would be happy to provide its speaker independent dialing solutions to HTC (or any other smartphone manufacturer); however, even though the HTC smartphones are based on the Microsoft Windows Mobile OS, we still need to work with the manufacturer to be able to get our application to work effectively on their phone.
If you would like to see the VoiceSignal application on the HTC (or any other smartphone) please contact the the manufacturer directly.
If you wont sell your software, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23739&highlight=
then people will TAKE it.
We know that there is a special driver for each device needed to activate the your program when the BT device's button is pressed.
Make the driver for our devices and we wil buy it or donate money to any account you want.
I will personally donate $200.
The OEM's will not do **** and they do not listen.
I have bought a VITO Technology voice dialling solution which is advertised as working with the XDA II and a Bluetooth headset. Called VoiceDialer, it cost $15.95 and you can download a free 14 day trial from http://vitotechnology.com/en/products/voicedialer.html . It seems to work but I haven't checked it with my Bluetooth headset yet.
Please try it and let me know what you think

HTC and Bluetooth

At a Microsoft Technet presentation I attended today in London the MS people told me HTC are going to stop using Broadcom BT stacks and switch all their models to MS BT stacks
Does/will the MS stack support A2DP or BT keyboard?
I know the MS stack handles keyboards and Stereo headsets.
Thats excellent news. Bluetooth works great on the magician (MS) but is totally shocking on the XDA 2s and all the iPaqs (Widcomm). My experience is with BT active sync and BT GPS.
We should start to see more fun bluetooth software since its free to use the MS stack but Widcomm is so expensive to get the SDK. I'm talking thousands of dollars.

Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0

Has anybody seen this beast in the wild yet? The Exchange SP2 went live today with push and remote-wipe ability but according to Microsoft it can only be licensed by the manufacturer/carrier...
... so has anybody seen this feature pack available for download?

Okay, since nobody replied I decided to call my contact at Microsoft (Sr. Product Manager at MS Mobile & Embedded devices) and here is the skinny:
- MSFP will be complete and released to manufacturing within a month
- After testing this software will be distributed by the manufacturer
- It will not require a flash, just installation (might depend on manufacturer)
- Expect to see something within 2 months of next months release to manufacturing.
Go figure.

Yep, just recieved my response today from my account reps. It is currently planned to be distributed through the vendors only. The verbiage I recieved suggested that vendors may distribute two different device versions (with and without MSFP) and that they may not be required to include all of the features advertised in the MSFP. I've screamed about this and am waiting to see if I recieve any clarification. For the moment I've withdrawn my recommendation of WM5 devices for purchase by my company (since I don't know if upgrades will be availiable) and even when we start seeing the MSFP availiable I'm not going to recommend a device until I have personally verified the presense of the full feature pack. Definitely a bummer.
Oh, and for months now we have been told that it would be availiable at the same time as E2K3SP2...

MSFP Update?
Anyone have a copy of the MSFP? I heard iMate have just released it for their official WM5 devices, and am hoping the install will work on the PDA2K.
Mott.

MSFP is not standalone update, but it is included in newer roms only for WM5 devices, maybe it will be ported to BA , but it is early to say

Theory on next ROM releases

I have a small theory as to when the next ROM updates are going to ship.
Well since the Universal is running the WM 2005 and the SP2 for Exchange already shipped, all we are missing for the push feature is the MSFP (Messaging & Security Feature Pack). SO the OEMs are dying to win corporate users to use the universal or magician, since also the fact that Blackberry might have to stop selling in the US...
Taking all that into account I would expect that iMATE & O2 are going to wait with the release to incorporate the MSFP into the ROM. T-Mobile might also this time join since they are dying to get as much bussiness customers as possible. Here in holland the MDA PRO was available to Businesss customers 2 and a half weeks before they started selling it to consumers. I can verify that because I work as an ICT manager and I was contacted by T-Mobile rep who wanted to come and deliver me the MDA PRO the next day if I agree to take a subscription. I have refused that since we use KPN and UMTS and t-mobile has no UMTS yet. But knowing t-mobile maybe they still are going to let the chance go.
Also this is the reason the QTEK has not released their device at least here in the NL you can not get it yet it is expected in the end of November. the Qtek 9100 (magician) is already in the shops but that device is meant for consumer market. the QTEK 9000 is the business device and I think (maybe I am wrong) it will ship already with the MSFP in it. As I remember reading Microsoft should release the MSFP in the first half of November...
PLease feel free to comment critisize etc. But keep in mind this is just a theory...I might have some facts wrong!
Oh Yea I forgot Orange which is also not yet released at least here in the NL
My theory has just received a blow...
I have just seen two online stores in NL claiming to have the QTEK 9000 in stock. Although on the www.qtek.nl the device is only mentioned that it exist and further no aditional info. And this coming from the site which was the first one to post the 3D anymation of the QTEK 9100.
I have to look into this first thing monday, if they realy have them in stock.
P.S. For those interrested the two stores are:
www.smartphonestunts.nl & www.smartphoneshop.nl
I believe that all operators are waiting for MS to supply the update before they can mess it up a little then distribute it.
And it could also be that MS are holding off the release until the security pack and activesync issues are resolved.
Yea the Operators are real stupid, I mean there is ready device software why stick your own crap in there.
About the MSFP: On the dutch Pocket PC site www.pocketinfo.nl there is an offer to buy the KJAM plus a year sunscription including the push functionality. In small letters they write that for the real push functionality you have to wait for the MSFP to be released untill then the users are more then welcome to sync on schedule.
Anyhow I hope the MSFP is real close since this offer has just appeared now so I guess they know more then we do.
actually i'm thinking that the new ROMs are o their way because MS has done their homework (you cannot release only half of the package) so it's up to the HTC to finish the ROM then up to the carriers to provide it to us.
I'm afraid MS HAS done half the job, again.
MSFP is RTM as of the 4th Nov, according to my contact.
Question is, how long will it take the likes of Orange to incorporate it? Blummin long time I reckon.
F.
Is there anyone with an MSDN license ?? I beleive you could get it there
Nope, it's not on MSDN Sub Downloads.
It's got to be integrated with the providers' software (ROMs) so they only supply it to the providers. With the exception of those who were on the Windows Mobile Beta program, but if you stuck a copy of (I thinkk it's called Crossbow, the next version) on your machine most features wouldn't work I suspect!
We're at the mercy of buttholes like Orange.
F.
Well that sounds really disturbing. what if I want to deploy the feature enterprise wide. I mean I am myself an ICT Manager but our company is too small to pull a muscle but large multinationals are then also at the mercy of the operators or shall I say buttholes?
Aye, it seems that way.
Problem is, I can't get any decent info from MS about it, and Orange say that there's nobody to ask there - even the data guys, who apparently "have access to almost every system in the company", are not told about ROM updates until they're on the website!
We'll have to wait and see. As I say, I believe the MSFP went RTM last week so it might not be tooo long...
For the record, I'm an Exchange consultant and so have a vested interest in this damn push-email thing.
F.
Bad news guys ... i hope that i'm wrong.
From the Microsoft Launch of VS2005 today in Milano seems that the new features will be available only from 2006 , meaning that we can only hope for ROM updates without the security and exchange improvements.ùù
As an additional info ... the italian Jasjar is real, brought by TIM. It has the italian ROM version.
We are all waiting for this ROM for the JASJAR & belive me I am checking the site of imate three times daily!

WM 6 for O2 Flame!

Is there WM6 rom for O2 Flame?
Not yet officially.
I can't wait
I hope that WM6 for Flame comes out soon. Does anyone have any idea when?
O2 Hints at no WM6 for XDA Flame
from
http://www.xdaflameusers.com/viewtopic.php?id=325
Howdy
I asked O2 about the SDHC issues above 2mb I told them I can use a 2GB Sandisk 100% perfectly but a WM6 fix will normally natively allow larger cards to be used (and why I care) so therefore is WM6 days, weeks, months or years away as I want to buy a few Flames (or alternative) for the office (12) only if SDHC is sorted and the WM5 BT radio issues are fixed i.e. WM6).
What this also seems to say is I might put in a formal fault on my brand new phone as the Bluetooth Radio keeps popping in and out with my brand new car's smart package.
A known issue that was resolved for the Hermes at least with various radio ROM's updates and was a standard fix by WM6. I don't like their answers, but at least they answered
Fingers crossed and contributions forthcoming for you cookers out there, that fix this (I need easy).

Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
With regards to your query above,
We appreciate your interest in our devices.
However, we are sorry to inform you that O2 Asia has not release any news with regards to the launch date and specification of Windows Mobile 6 for O2 Xda Flame yet sad or if there will be WM6 for the flame mad No further news at the moment but in the near future announcement will be made.
From time to time, O2 Asia will provide upgrades of the radio code or upgrades of the operating system, otherwise known as ROM build. (DOH! really *cynic*) These upgrades can mean release of new software, or fixes to certain bugs or limitations. O2 Asia will keep users (login required) informed via our official website (www.seeo2.com) once any upgrades or patches are ready to be released to the public.
And also, kindly note that our engineers have tested the XDA Flame with MicroSD memory cards up to 2GB.
Using a higher capacity (Eg: 4GB / High Speed) memory card with the XDA Flame may possibly cause some conflict. (*yeah doesn't work*)
Kindly note that as these memory card are developed and belong to the 3rd party developer, O2 (Asia) Technical support may not able to provide full support on these software/hardware. Users will have to contact the vendor for more information regarding the compatibility of the software/hardware with the O2 Xda Flame (WM 2005 OS).
**NOTE:-
Sandisk 2G Memory card may have some compatiblility issue, you can actually still purchase Sandisk memory card that are of not 2G. (*but it works so why would I*)
Hope this information is useful. Thank You.
Warmest Regards,
O2 Technical Support (Email)
