i was on the phone to 02 today and was surprised by what the customer services agent told me. 02 are not charging for gprs.
i originally rang up to change my tariff as was worried about the amount of data i was downloading and getting a huge data bill. he said that i was not going to be charged for any data even though my allowance is only 100kb and i would be informed when i would be charged. seems very odd but im not complaining
i believe that someone works for 02 who uses this site just wondering he/she could confirm this
BTW im on the 02 200 tariff
sorry that this is not a BA thread but was just eager to ask
Yeh, I haven't been billed for my ridiculous GPRS usage. Good job too
Thing is, if we use it like its free, then one month they decide its not free we're buggered.
Also, I'm told if they hae been logging all your GPRS usage they're entitled to bill you for it in one massive bill whenever they choose.
something similar happened to my friend she didn't get charged for any voice calls for 3 months then 5 months later she got a massive bill. something to do with o2 computer system. so i wouldn't put it passed them.
i don't mined paying for gprs but £2.35 per meg is a ridiculous price and they give you a free entitlement of 100Kb whats all that about?????
just hoping we here from the guy who works for o2 to see if he can give us anymore details.
Try using a PayAsYouGo sim.
One day a while back all internet access got blocked. I cant use MSN anymore, or sync any of my email like I used to.
No word from O2 Why, and every single person in O2 has a different story as to why.
I wouldnt mind paying if I could actualy use it!
Im going to have to change from O2 to another company because they dont seem to offer working GPRS on PayG at all, no matter what the cost.
Orange do a good 3g bundle price, and when the new Universal comes out ill enjoy that! (contract though)
Be Carefull!!!
Be Carefull, guys!
I heard something similar and went a little crazy on GPRS, by listening to streaming internet radio one day. I phoned up to check it all, and was informed I wasn't gonna be charged.
I now have a bill for £165 (all GPRS 'Data Services')
...My phone is currently blocked, due to my inability to pay the bill.
Arf arf!!

your correct, we do sometimes do free gprs, tho seems its most of the time these days, if u want, ill find out when it ends, but i can confirm that its free, for now.
most of the posts on here ive made are from my xda 2s and i use the gprs way too much.
i you could find out when it ends it would be great.
but its going to be a shock when it does stop. maybe 02 could sort out a better data plan. because 2.35 per mb is far to high.
i think it is important not to take the piss with downloading because if everyone starts o2 will soon change there mined
there are data tarrifs that turn £2.50 per mb to £1 per mb,
just like the text message bolt ons.........
not sure if you get it on certain tarrifs tho, ill find out prices and stuff on monday when i go back to work........... 8)
thanks joey would appreciate that, also is this through the "wap.o2.co.uk" APN?
i haven't been charged using mobile.o2.co.uk
i haven't been charged using mobile.o2.co.uk
free gprs is the only thing keeping me with O2, when it finally connects properly. :?
so why have I been charged over £150?
b
well thats a strange one i assume your on o2 in the uk. what tariff are you on?
Yeah, I'm in the UK, and on O2 250.
Grr.
The o2 GPRS tariffs are not easy to find online, but if you look in the business section, there are a few options
I pay £14.50 + VAT = £17.04 per month for 36Mb free allowance and thereafter its £0.85/Mb + VAT = £1. Unused allowance rolls over for 3 months
I only use GPRS for tomtom traffic, live train timetables, light web surfing and the odd email - I do not sync with my mailbox, but use a web based email.
My useage is well below 36Mb/month

i would have them look into that, i got one a few years ago, only had a nokia 3650, and it would be imposible to download the amount of data in the time i downloaded it, apparently i had a program that connected to gprs and constantly downloading stuff...... i wasnt happy when gprs cost me 200 quid, so i didnt pay, i called them, queried it, and even they told me it wasnt right!!
give them a call mate.... 8)
Gprs mixed messages from o2
I have called frequently about it and get this answer often: "GPRS is free for light web surfing and emails", then I ask how that is, and they say that there is a 100kb limit, which, in fact means it is not free, it appears that there is some confusion over there. I have to say I am sure that I have used more then 100KB and never been billed, we'll see how long this lasts?
100 kb is nothing thats about 5 email transfers or 5 mins on the web. i think it might be that it is free to a certain limit say 50mb however im sure o2 don’t want a situation like one2one had when they said free text messages for everyone it brought the system down and nobody could send a message

why do you think o2 have not announced it officially ? they wont tell you its free, u use it as u normally would and dont get charged.
Got a strange call this week from 02, seems my bill is so high (£1000+ per month) that they've now assigned me my own account executive to support me!
Anyone got experience of this and any ideas on what I might be able to get out of them for my orbit?
£1000+ Mobile Bill
Would think you'll get your own private room in hospital with all that high level radio your putting through your brain!!
1000+ a month!
What are you spending 1000+ per month on? Calls, data?
That sort of volume warrants an acocunt manager and business tarriff... if you're using lots of data, it's worht looking at switching to t-mobile business tarriff - I have been offered ten lines, 10,000 minutes of talk time and unlimited data for £400 a month (Currently spend about 1200/month with o2)
Would you mind asking your account executive if he/she could chase up exactly when the new wm6 rom will be released to end users.
I personally have never gone over my £25 a month's worth of calls and am really impressed by your huge bills. Your one bill would pay all mine and then some.
Thanks JamieC.
Maybe also a car charger would be nice for you.
I was just perusing my T-Mobile account when I noticed that the "Plan Summary" section was not exactly as I expected:
Code:
100Mins&100Text(24)10 £8.51
web'n'walk Plus ([b]18[/b]) Free [b]<--- 18?!?[/b]
Monthly charge total £8.51
I was suprised that the free web'n'walk plus was only marked as "18" where my contract is for 24 months. Searching google for "web'n'walk Plus (18)" suggests that I will only get free internet for 18 months of my contract...?
Did I miss some small print somewhere? I was pretty careful to read most of it, or did I miss something / screw up my order...?
Anyone else on this plan get the same report?
UPDATE: not to worry, this seems to be a quirk of T-Mobile's billing system. Just watch out for the extra charges in 18 months!

Just called t-mobile to ask about this for you.
They say that the maximum amount of time that their systems will allow them to put the W&WPlus onto your account is 18Months at a time, after this they will simply put another W&WPlus on your account.
They confirmed that should they accidentally not put it back onto your account in 18 months time, that you would be refunded for any data usage when you raise the issue

Could it possibly refer to the content lock?? This is aimed at those 18+
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/phone-support/content-lock/
Mine shows:
My price plan
Pay monthly 10 (24 months) £8.51
Additional services
Services you currently have:
Unlimited Text Booster Free
Capped Data Rate Free
Video Calling Free
Remove Content Lock Free
Internet Plus Monthly £4.25
24 Month Upgrade Flag Free
£5.00 Loyalty Free
Total Monthly cost exc VAT £12.76
So that would be £15/month VAT included.
What happened is that they Charged me £5 for the Internet Plus option on my first bill, and after I called them they gave me £5 back, and they added the £5.00 Loyalty, Additional service which evens it out (or so I was told).
Just called t-mobile to ask about this for you.

Oh wow... thanks! I was going to ring them myself this evening if nobody had an answer. I presume you're on the same contract type?
I'll update my OP with their response, save anyone else unnecessary worry.
Hi guys,
I've received a bill of 600 euro's... The reason they say is that I've choosen to use my old number of another subscription at Vodafone. In the mean while till my number is changed they gave me a 0 euro subscription that means u got nothing but a phone number to be called at what they didnt tell me... and it wasnt added to the contract either.
The helpdesk told me I could find this at the website so I looked it up and indeed i had a 0 euro subscription which means im stuck with a huge bill...
Because i had 500mb datausagate outside of bundles/blox and same for texts and call minutes.
Any Idea's? I've send a mail with an explanation. I will summeraise it. The email is saying that I was especting the normal subscription straight away and paying dubbel for 1 or 2 months. And that a good compagny would add those important lines like a 0 euro subscription to their contract.
Does anyone have another idea please share it
From my experience, your best bet is to bend over and try to enjoy it. Sorry.
But seriously, fight it. Get some advice and write a letter, sending it recorded delivery.
Talking to someone earlier, i was surprised to find out that some carriers in the US charge for incoming texts, so just out of interest ( and to find out if its cheaper elsewhere ) what do you pay per month to your mobile/cell carier and what do you get
to start the ball rolling, I am with 3 (UK) and i pay £15 a month sim card only deal "Sim 15" - i purchased my own phone independantly ), for that i get...
2Gb of data to use as i like ( either on the phone or tethered*)
3,000 Texts (sms) incoming texts are free
300 minutes call time to any landline or mobile/cell phone ( except premium numbers) incoming calls are free
2,000 minutes call time to any one else on the same mobile/cell network
*this deal is no longer current, new signups get unlimited data, without restrictions, and no fair use policy etc etc but are not able to tether, everything else is the same for new sign ups.
Pay to receive? You could really irritate people you don't like by sending them messages!
I got a Motorola defy for about half cost price on a 2 year contact. £10.50 a month for 100 mins and 500mb and unlimited texts (you can swap that for free land line calls etc). That's t-mobile but they don't do that deal now.

I'm on pre-paid in Argentina...I've been using a offer where you pay AR$1( US$0,216) for unlimited internet/day .
I pay Rs. 250/month (~4.5 US$) for
1GB of data
250 minutes on any phone.
1000 National SMS's
Incoming SMS are free.
Incoming calls are free if I'm at my home network.
ebol, is your carrier TIM?
I'm from Brazil, my carrier is TIM, and I'm on prepaid.
I pay 0.50 Reais (something like 25 cents of the American dollar) for each day that I use the internet, 0.50 for each day that I text (after I send the first SMS I can send unlimited texts throughout the day), 0.25 cents for each call to other numbers in the same carrier, 0.50 for each landline call and something like 1.00 real for each minute when I'm calling numbers from other carriers.
Calling other carriers is a bit expensive, but it's okay though, I rarely ever have to call anyone with Twitter and Whatsapp
I Pay 45$ with Telus I have :
-Unlimited calls between 6pm to 7am
-Unlimited calls on week-end
-150 mins for day calls
-unlimited sms
-250mb data
Plans are very expensive in Canada because we only have 4 carriers.
Tele2
5$ I pay, using prepaid
I get 300 minutes to all operators in my country and 1GB of mobile data.
Unfortunately, they are probably shutting it down on 31 august cause its too cheap

Brazilian carriers
I came from Vivo here, where I paid about US$17 monthly to get:
"Unlimited" data; 3G velocity was about ~400kbps and VERY slow after a daily use.
10k minutes from Vivo to another one;
10k messages in the same way.
Messages and calls to another carrier are charged separately. And pretty expensive, also good to mention.
One time I spent about US$24 on messages to another carriers, when that occurred, I changed to Tim, where I get now for US$13 monthly:
"Unlimited" data for about US$0,24 per day of use; 3G velocity about 600kbps which is limited to 50kbps after a FEW mb of use, like 15mb or somewhat else.
Unlimited messages to all carriers at same price of Data; at least it seems to be unlimited.
About US$0,12 per call to another Tim phone.
Calls to another carrier phone are pretty expensive...
Also good to know that calls from Tim tends to go down after a few minutes of use, forcing you to call again and, with this, pay another US$0,12.
The signal in both are crappy, I live in Volta Redonda, which is located by 150km from state capital, Rio de Janeiro.
The Vivo carrier, when goes down, takes DAYS to get back on "foot" showing signal on my Smartphone, and the Tim one, simply doesn't give any signal in determinated areas of the city, and their merchandising claims to have covered all country with excellent signal, which is a lie.
