HTC UNIVERSAL, JASJAR HOUSING NEED HELP!!

Hey so I purchased a new housing for my Universal and it arrives from Hong Kong with no instructions... I have replaced a few housings in the past but this by far is the most dificult.
I was wondering if anyone had any photos or instructions from a housing change they had done. I am right now stuck trying to remove the piece on top of the keyboard which ends up being bound to the motherboard by touchscreen connectors from the lcd. Any help would be great as I am truly in a bind.
Also, if anyone has any instructions on changing a housing on the MDA or any other IMATE/HTC product I could use those as well. THANKS.
I've changed my housing and it's pretty straight forward if you are careful and have the right tools.. A copy of the service manual with step by step disassembly and assembly is on the ftp site at..
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Universal/UNniversalL_Service_Manual_CONFIDENTIAL.pdf
The only problem I had was with the keyboard membrane in that it was slightly different to the old one. There are dimples that press against the membrane switched and these were in a different position on the space bar on the new membrane, so I found that the space bar didn't work and had to take the whole thing to pieces again. Also I found that the new housing didn't need three securing screws.
Anyway, It can be done just do it on a clear worktop with plenty of space.I printed out all the sheets and placed the disassembled part/screw on the relevant sheet, this stops screws getting mixed up!!
Going to give it a try right now. I appreciate it.
Hi Odyseus.Have you bought the keyboard too? I have found the housing but without keyboard(and mine's silver) in this shop in UK http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/10679.htm
I think it's a good idea to print out the sheets
I think the housing should come with a new keyboard pad? (Not the keyboard switch assembly. but the membrane with the keypads on).
Benbenben let us know how it goes. Why are you changing cases BTW? Different color or damaged?

FIX BAD RECEPTION PROBLEM

I tried looking all over the net and within the many forums and could not find any articles relating to repairing the bad reception on the universal units.
Here is my solution, 1) download the UNIVERSAL SERVICE MANUAL from the ftp site here on forum.xdadevelopers.com 2) Follow the instruction on disassembling the unit up to the point where it shows how to remove the antenna. 3) Remove the antenna and from the back of the antenna unit you will see two metal prongs on top and two metal prongs on the side.
4) There is a large metal plate on the front of antenna housing and a small metal strip off to the side of the plastic housing. 5) Take a small strip of aluminium foil (or cigarette pack foil) and roll it into a small roll that covers the back of the plastic housing and fits neatly into the grooves of the back of the white plastic antenna housing. 6) The two metal prongs that correspond to the large metal plate must be lifted gently to allow the foil to make contact with them and be placed underneath the prongs and not on top of the prongs. DO NOT PLACE THE FOIL IN CONTACT WITH THE TWO OTHER PRONGS OF THE SMALL METAL PLATE AS THIS WILL SHORT THE UNIT. 7)Reinstall the antenna.
You will notice once you have finished assembling the unit and have turned it back on that the reception indicator does not show full strenghth, however from my experience the call quality and reception is excellent even when there is only 1 or 2 bars showing and as of yet I have had no hang up or missed calls.
PLEASE NOTE THE ABOVE PROCEDURE VOIDS ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES

Has anyone (besides the poster of this topic) tried this.
And I know there are pictures in the manual, but we do want some more pictures of the procedure.

Has anyone replaced their housing and had issues with reception?

I bought a replacement housing and I noticed that when I use it, my phone is often searching for a signal. It's very sparatic too - it will be searching for a signal or have 1 bar and a minute later, it will have a full signal. But when I switch back to my old scratched up housing, the signal is steady.
Granted, I have broken one of the metal clips on the side of the housing but the same clip is broken on the original. I'm thinking that the face is used as an antenna or something. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue.
I also have another question/warning. Where can you buy quality housings for the Artemis? The one I bought is junk. Not only do I have the reception issue, but the HTC logo on the front has completely wiped off with a few days of use. Also, the keypad paint is very thin and cheap. In the dark, when the keypad is lit, you can see right through the cheap thin paint! It will only be a matter of about a week or so before thepaint starts chipping off. Also, the silver paint on the volume button has rubbed off in about a week of use. My old silver trim lasted almost a year. I'm really pissed about that. So I'm using my old scratched face plate & buttons with the new rear portion (since it the only worth while part in the kit. So beware of cheap ebay prices on these housings. Look for OEM.
Update: I've found that you can only get a quality OEM housing if you pay like $75.00 US. That's the going price I've seen on ebay and on sites like this: http://cnn.cn/shop/p3300dopod-p800-full-housing-p-1464.html
If it comes with the key pad, you can usually tell it's OEM because the letters are dark grey instead of white. The fake ones are white and they do not have the "e" for Internet Explorer - rather, they'll usually have some red symbol. That's the only way I know of to tell if they're fake. When you do a seach on ebay, include the word "Original" in your search and you should see some OEM ones.
i can confirm that - i also bought new housing from Ebay. It looks exactly the same ( only slightly different color on logos etc ).
very bad reception its not worth it(can not use GPS or wifi properly). And the paint is chipping off after week or so.
Also beware of the touch screens that are on Ebay - also cheap knockoffs. They work but are not near the quality of the original screen.

You may want to check the metal connectors on the center piece that connects to the circuit board. They ones connecting to the silver flat metal around the camera. Those are the antennas. I'm still using the original housing (with 2 ebay housings in the box) but I did have to readjust the antenna connectors to get wifi reception back. May or may not work for you.
Instructions Please

Thanks a lot i managed to take the housing off my phone, it was pretty easy with the right instructions, i'm seriously considering on getting a new one or painting the old one.
75$ Thats pretty expensive, I bought my 2nd hand (but in mint condition) for 100 euro. Better get a new P3300, or as mentioned above paint the worn out case yourself, that would be even better

Replacement GPS antenna?

Hi,
Due to a problem with my unbranded Touch Pro2 (UK model) I dismantled and then reassembled it. It's now working again except for the GPS which is aware of the satellites, but the signal of them always stays at zero.
I did some searching round this forum and found out (to my horror...) that apparently the GPS antenna was just a piece of magnetic tape and, you guessed it, I've long since thrown that away as I thought it was nothing more than some simple tape to keep the casing tight/decrease creaking noise/whatever.
So my question is, can anyone please tell me where the tape/antenna was positioned and any suggestions for a replacement? If anyone has any photos available marking the contact positions this would be even better.
Many thanks!
I'm having exactly the same problem. Where is the antenna and what does it look like?
Is the European TP2 so different from an US one? How can be possible that there is no info on this topic?
Thanks,
S!

One X. New Housing, bad signal.

Hello guys. I'm Stephen and I write from Milan.
I have a problem.
I bought from an English merchant on ebay a new housing for my One X.
All right, but just mounted the GSM / UMTS worsens considerably.
If I fit the original housing the signal returns to the fullest and receives well.
It 'possible that the housing buy in England are different from Italian?
What can be the cause of the deterioration of the signal?
Thank you.
Hi Stephen,
Until someone more knowledgable replies, I'll have to do! It's my understanding that the cell signal antenna sits in the housing and connects a copper plate to the mainboard via a set of pins, roughly in the centre of the rear side of the device.
Was the copper plate contact of the antenna on the new housing coated in some protective plastic or something? Don't go peeling anything off just yet though!
Essentially the same thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfH48nbCFE4
What you can do is check out with the merchant who sold you the housing if they can refund you or something. In the mean time, check out with a repair guy who changed the housing (if you did not do it yourself). I also ordered a housing from eBay (easyphix store from Australia) and to be honest I had no problems whatsoever. The signal is fine. It could be that the unit was either damaged in transport or not replaced adequately. Does your 2G signal (GPRS/EDGE) pickup fine? If so, keep your phone network selection in that mode until you solve the problem with the housing.
